Other than that, it's a little more peaceful and laid back than the hustle and bustle and crowd on Schofield. There is a pre-school called Armed Services YMCA that you could put your child in, a community pool for Island Palm residents, a car selling lot, a small and quaint bowling alley, and a small PX. I believe the Navy housing is farther back behind Wiliwili. The park is well kept. I'd recommend this area of you're ever stationed here and there is an opening.

I Remember when we first got stationed here my husband said to me Wheeler army airfield? Isn't that the first place to get hit before Pearl Harbor? Yes, yes it was. There's interesting historical signs about it On the main road by the big gray building and others in the pink Amelia Airhart hanger on the airfield. Many of the homes and hangers that got hit still have the bullet holes in them as historical landmarks. So we live here with respect and humility from the past & excitement about the future. This base is small but friendly & traffic isn't as bad as Schofield in my opinion. AVOID crossing between bases if you can in the morning. It will add an hour to your day. Wheeler has a wonderful new small bowling alley (only 4 lanes) with yummy food beer & free pool Thursday & Friday. Unfortunately due to sequestration they are not able to be open on other days At this time. It was built for the barracks next-door but tends to attract more of an older and family crowd. There are nondenominational Christian worship services at Wheeler Chapel 11 am Sunday's with Potlucks every first Sunday. Pagans meet in the church 1 Friday/mth although I hear it's basically a bunch of young gaming kids and probably not super religious. The Community Center behind the chapel has a pool, Small fitness center, and small movie theater you can reserve for parties. There are several great playgrounds all over the base. There is A barbershop, a bank, a delicious DFAC, shoppette, and a gym in and around the big gray building. The only gas station is on Schofield. All of the housing is pretty awesome in my opinion including the older historical WWII housing (except for poor Camp Stover in the back.) Make sure to make your way over to Schofield on the weekends for the KoleKole (sp?) Pass Hike. It's open to the public usually too. It's only .8 mi one way & doable with small kids & the views are phenomenal. I'm going to leave here with such fond memories! And those Mountain View's?! Breathtaking!! Historically Hawaiian Warriors trained on this plateau also (as they still do as part of the Hawaii National Guard.) Don't miss out on learning about the local Hawaiian history while you're here. I recommend the Shakka app if you're driving around the area. And while you're at it, stop at Zippy's and get some local food and donuts, it's kind of like a Hawaiian Denny's. Dole is only 2 Miles up the road for visiting family & tourists. We also make a great 'Gateway to the North Shore .'Last, all the helicopter & air traffic doesn't bother my family & we can't hear much in our house. She greeted me with a smile, treated me extremely courteously, and was very knowledgeable about procedures that I needed to take. She told me everything I needed to know, and did so politely , and with a smile. The world needs more people like Celia. She showed me some Aloha . I was kinda hoping to find more outstanding tickets so that I can see my friend Celia again. (just kidding)

What a relief... we were going to donate our car to Kidney Cars. Was told we had one citation for…read morean expired meter in Ewa. No one in our family went to Ewa 7 years ago and got a ticket- mystery! Came to District Court to pay this citation and woman at window said nothing on our record. Come to find out it was a typo and ticket belonged to another car. Phew!!! Before you enter you need to go through a metal detector... oh my... Got a license plate clearance letter after asking the clerk several times for one to show Kidney Cars. Mystery solved!!!

I've been to this station at least 3 or 4 different times for school field trips. And year after year I see the same old stuff/building. I would really love to see the city do improvements here. Located right next to the Mililani Shack. They have their own parking lot n the back. There's a dorm for the workers, a "gym" (looks kind of like a dungeon), kitchen/common area and garage/work area. Seriously, these guys deserve better. Make it happen C&C!

Lā'ie Point State Wayside to be precise where it's not quite a park but a lookout point with an easy access drive up located right across from Late Shopping Center on Anemoku Street though be aware it's a residential area and with very limited parking so you need to be mindful not to block driveways and find some area to park to take in the view. No trails or path and is quite rocky so be careful making your way around to take what nature has created which is quite interesting and it's nice to see that there is a plaque that explains the legend of how the scattered pieces of rock formations came to be was quite fascinating and one that I learned on this visit but a place not to be missed for a cool and unobstructed view of a unique part of the island. The ruins of this 250 year old temple tell the story of the Hawaiian culture. Signs reminded us…read morethat we were on sacred grounds and to be respectful. Plaques describe the Hawaiian religion and the role the temple played in communication and honoring of the gods. Sacrificial offerings would have made to the gods on the site. The site played a role in the success of war. A high priest presided over ceremonies. The site was named a Registered National Historic Monument in 1962. A breathtaking view of Waimea and the channel between Oahu and Kaua'i can be observed from the site. The ruins are a bit off the beaten path of the North Shore. The road is windy and narrow, but the views and story are worth the trek. There was no charge for admission and we found ample parking during our visit, but there are no amenities. Wear good walking shoes if you want to take the short hike around the ruins. Worth a visit if you are interested in history of the Hawaiian people and their engineering and religious practices.

The H2 isn't necessarily the prettiest freeway on the island but it's still pretty nice despite all…read morethe dead grass in the summer and the sloppy pothole patchwork. Regardless of looks, the freeway still serves its purpose. This is probably the most convenient way to go up to the North Shore, since the only other way would be to drive all the way to the windward side and go up Kam Hwy. As a freeway in Hawaii, the H2 definitely has the least traffic (unless your stuck east bound near the Waianae exit during morning rush hour). It has an adequate amount of lanes to accommodate the volume of cars that use it. So it doesn't really feel claustrophobic unless there's an accident. At night it gets a bit creepy since there weren't any lights for a while (due to all the copper thefts). Not too sure if they have fixed this.. and if they did, they should probably double check that it's still there. One of my favorite times of the day is when I'm driving to work in the morning over Kipapa Gulch and the clouds are still lingering near the bridge. Such a neat feeling :)

I believe before it's completion, the only way to get to these towns were through Kamehameha hwy. This freeway is 4 lanes wide. Its pretty well lit at night as long as the wiring to the lights are not stolen. TIP: Don't speed through this stretch of freeway although it is tempting
