Seems like a waste to review the post office. So I'll just tell you my story. I will say that the postal folks at Eagle River are fantastic. Many things are outside their control and they are most definitely understaffed. That being said they do work hard. To a degree they are still an entity of the United States government, nothing says "I require patience" more than the federal government. Right? I reiterate. The workers, from clerks to my carriers, are all wonderful people thrust into a challenging situation. MY STORY: If you've been to the ER P.O. in December this past year, you probably waited 2 hours plus. I know I did. 1 hour and 45 minutes in line. TWENTY MINUTES to find my package. It was much needed medical supplies and I was traveling the next day. Come to find out my box was on one of a hundred pallets for 9 days. No wonder they struggled to find it. We flew to Nevada and boxed up 23 large containers and a bowling ball to be sent back to Eagle River. We mailed six per day at the retail ground rate which is the cheapest cost available. You can also expect delivery in two weeks (they warn you it could take upwards of 30 days). Perfect! We have to fly back home and prepare space for our junkola! Fast forward to landing at Ted Stevens Tuesday night. As we pull up in our driveway we see six of the boxes have beat us home. Wait.......what? That's only 4 days! The next morning, six more parcels, as well as the next day. The first 19 packages all took 4 days from Reno. The last 4? It's been almost three weeks and they can't find the bowling ball. It hasn't checked in anywhere and we can't do anything about it for another week. Luckily, the important material all made it here, making this a most hilarious adventure. A five star review for a Post Office?!! What?!! Yeah, this was definitely a five star moment for me. I was in need of a new passport and pleased to see online that the ER location offered appointments, albeit a couple weeks out. No biggie, I have time. I made my appointment online for mid week, a.m. and definitely made the right choice! Three people at the counter helping others and once it was my turn, I was asked to step over to one gal who takes care of them. She was helping another gentleman, being super playful and courteous, as was he. She was equally so with me as well. The process was super fast; I was in and out in about 10 minutes. I mentioned to her that this was not even remotely what I was use to at my Chugiak PO and she said 'sadly, I've heard that many times'. They could really learn something about being friendly at our location. Heck, a simple hello would be appreciated... they're rude and crotchety beyond measure. Anywho... I digress! Excellent customer service across the board in Eagle River and I noticed it with each customer that was helped. read more

The people I have dealt with inside the PO have been kind and served me well. Mail delivery is where the problems are. Despite filling out a form when we moved in listing our names as the only recipients on our mailbox, we've continued to receive mail for other individuals--some for previous tenants and some for entirely different addresses. We spoke to personnel about it, which resulted in stopping our mail and being forced to fill out the same form again. The same issues persist. We've had our packages delivered to others' mailboxes. (Like today.) We've had packages delivered to our box belonging to other people on our block. (This also happened today.) We've had packages delivered for the correct house number but meant for a completely different street. (Last week.) Regardless of staffing, all these mistakes are easily corrected by reading, so I can't wrap my head around why it continues. read more

These people don't answer the phone. They answer & no one is there. I need some help. Disappointed is a polite word.

Had scheduled an appointment to do passports (including photos) for my 3 teenaged daughters. Had to pull them out of school and husband out of work to sign paperwork. I scheduled the appointment for 10:30am the following week and had a confirmation email and text. I show up at 10:15am with everyone and they had no one available to do passports and told me to come back at 11am. I can't take the kids back to school because now I have 45 minutes to kill--husband has to miss more work. At 11am when I show up, they are not ready until 11:20 and then there is a gentleman in line for passports and his appointment had been at 10am and they had pushed him as well!! Luckily, he let me go in front of him since my husband and kids each had to go back to work and school. I was furious but kept it in check because I'm 100% sure they would have "misplaced" my paperwork if I had told him what I really thought of their service. Why make an appointment if you don't care? Just say that--we don't take appointments, you just have to come in and hope to get lucky. Simple as that. I would give zero stars if that were an option. read more

US Post Office - Does this look full to you? - Post Offices Near Me - Eagle River, Alaska

Pros: There is an optional automated machine to weigh and send your mail even if the post office is closed. There are some boxes and envelopes near this machine, but many more inside the post office. Cons: The staff is really rude and unfriendly. When you have questions, they remark in a condescending way. I'd never been there and had a couple questions. I was curious what would be the best envelope for mailing back some Netflix DVDs. Rather than educating me on the envelopes they just sarcastically pointed and said, "envelopes are over there." That wouldn't be so bad except I apparently got the wrong envelope and ended up being charged unfairly. Bottom line: if they were a bit more friendly and asked a couple questions, they'd speed up the process and make their customers feel a tiny bit better. I grew up in a small town similar to Eagle River and the post office people were so friendly so I know that it's not just an excuse that "post office people are that way." read more

This post office is absolute trash. The people that work there, half of them are rude and extremely unprofessional and the other half could care less. So either way, you get bad customer service. They're delivery driver could care less about they're job because numerous times, on separate occasions I've received packages that have been man handled and shoved into my apartments parcel lockers which has broken the items in the delivery, items that can't be replaced. Today was the last straw when the delivery driver decided to instead of putting the small package in my regular mailbox, and it would have fit, they put it in the parcel locker, that has frozen locks. So now my package is sitting in a locker I cant get into. read more

These guys are useless! They don't even deserve 1 star. Every package that supposed to be delivered to the house, I end up having to go pick it up myself. This is your average post office. It has everything you need from post office boxes to stamps to cards. They have a lot of fun supplies as well and fun packages to send stuff in- good idea for a birthday or something. The machine out front is really easy to use as well, if you ever get there early and the lobby isnt open yet. The only thing about this specific one is that the people arent very friendly. The last time I went I was stuck in a line and the computers were being difficult for one employee when she was trying to create a post office box the customer. Everyone seemed pretty understanding about it and I wasnt in a rush, no big deal. The man took him back to figure it out and let the other lady take care of the line. She apologized but I wasnt too convinced given the tone. I dont know if it was because I loved my post office back home, but this office is not the funnest to go to. With my previous one (in Jonesboro, AR if you want to look up my review!) everyone was always joyful and happy and corteous! Here its just bleh. read more

US Post Office - Post Offices Near Me - Eagle River, Alaska

Avoid this post office at all cost. Drive to wasilla, Palmer, or even Fairbanks and it'll be faster than here. Theres 1 person working at any given time and they move at the pace of paint drying. I have lost multiple packages with them and at the end of the day they'll say "I'm not really sure what happened" and ask for the next person They are the reason that mail should be privatized and may god have mercy on anyone going in here. I've been writing this while standing in line and in 15 minutes have not moved a person and the line is all the way back to the entrance. Update cause I can't post multiple reviews: We paid for and used 1st Class Mail to require a signature due to this envelope containing over $500. The carrier signed for it himself, set it on our porch, and it has now likely blown away in the wind and buried in snow. Accidents happen but the way Vickie at the front counter treated me in front of others was beyond disgraceful. I get she's busy but I don't know what I don't know. She was irritated and mad that I didn't know carriers can sign for mail and said "that sucks for you" when I said the wind might of blown it. She absolutely did not care to help me out and blamed me for not having a secure place to have delivers leave envelopes (try my mailbox next time?) What was the point of paying for 1st class Mail and security if it's just tossed like any other piece of mail? Thats $500 I won't ever get back, but hey, at least Vickie was so sweet about it. read more

I really like the automatic teller that weighs your package and prints your labs. Technology is great! ER only has one and it is always available. Our PO employees are the best - very helpful, extremely friendly, and dedicated to delivering our mail. During the few crazy weeks of Christmas delivery, the parking lot is too small, no extra hours opened, and long lines of people not smart enough to use the automatic teller but the PO employees stayed attentive and helped out as best they could- great job read more

I don't know if it matters to review the post office because if you're in Eagle River you just don't have a choice. We've had nothing but problems the last couple of months with getting deliveries, having our mail missing, and trying to get answers is like making bread from stone. They aren't particularly friendly and when you need help, calling and getting someone is mission impossible. If I had a choice I would switch post offices. read more

Hey all! Do you remember the days when Eagle River's DMV had the worlds worst customer service and now how it has totally turned around? The DMV is now great!!!! They must have canned all of the crappy no-customer-service DMV staff and condemned them to serve time at the Eagle River post office. They are the worse! The staff all act like they are serving a prison sentence and that they have been working around the clock. They have no time to provide customer service, they are rude and the chore of going to the back room exhausts them. The woman that delivers our mail must get paid by the mile because we see her drive back and forth in front of our house on Iris Way aimlessly. She has refused to deliver to our cluster mail box stating that it is unsafe to do so because of the snow near it. My neighbors and I believe she is just lazy and filling time. The prior carrier was very pleasant, reliable and consistent. She would even bring some of our items to the door and chat a bit. She must of gotten paroled or retired or something because we have not seen her in a while. Today I went to the post office and put my deliveries on hold. I'll just go pick up my mail until spring time or until this carrier gets fired or something. I guess I could have kept this short simply by saying, the Eagle River Post Office SUCKS! I'm living in Eagle River temporarily. I'm having my mail forwarded from Washington state for 3 months. Unfortunately, although I've updated the information with the carrier here, my mail has been returned to sender several times. I've verified with the Washington PO that the mail IS being forwarded. The website for Eagle River USPS provides a name/email for the Post Master- the email bounces back. No one answers the phone, and I've called multiple times. I went in and explained it to the clerk. She was at a loss to do anything more than tell me to do what I've already done. I asked to speak to Post Master David Lynch (listed on the website). She'd never heard of him. I could hear when she talked to THEO, the temporary PM, and I heard him tell her to take my info because he was too busy to help me. It's been more than a week and I haven't heard a peep. Let me start off by saying that the mail system leaves a lot to be desired in Alaska. That being said this has to be one of the WORST post offices I've ever experienced doing business with. We are on an ALTERNATE route. So because of that I suppose it means they just don't care and don't feel the need to deliver the mail properly. Things I've experienced with this post office that are negative are numerous. 1. Not receiving catalogs. I think they are just throwing them away. 2. They say they attempt to deliver certified mail that we all know needs to be signed for. I was receiving a sizable check from the state. They claimed they attempted delivery but I was here waiting ALL day long for that check. No doorbell, no knock. Nothing. Not even a post it to let me know to come pick it up. I had to contact the state and they told me the check was sitting at the post office. I was livid. The alternate route thing was the explanation they gave as to why there was no post it to let me know to pick it up. Huh? 3. They dump packages all by the box in the Arctic entryway and don't even put them by the door. My neighbors have complained and stil the same thing. 4. I went last year to turn in a paper application for employment that their own website has and was curtly told that they don't accept paper apps and I have to apply online. The woman who said it was very nasty to me and looking me up and down. The workers there are very rude. They get paid well, have great benefits. Why so nasty? 5. I've seen them just drive by lots of times and not deliver anything. With 4 units in our building, I find it hard to believe that NOBODY got mail that day. Lazy, lazy, lazy. In 2017 they had an awesome carrier that was friendly, delivered the mail and came to the door and waited til you answered if you were there to deliver your package. Basically, he did his job. Not like the other carriers. I wish we had him again. I wish I had gotten his name I would have given this carrier an awesome compliment to that location if I had of known the issues we'd have in the future. I shouldn't have to get a PO Box or go somewhere else to get mail other than my residence. Do your jobs! Stop being so rude! Care at least for other people and their mail. read more

This post office, and the people who work there, are absolute incompetents. I tried sending a Christmas/birthday present box to a best friend who lives in Eagle River this past December. However, I accidentally wrote an Anchorage zip code with the address. So what does this post office do? They deliver it to a house WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ADDRESS. I am so infuriated with this post office. Never in my life have I had issues with deliveries. In the past month alone I have had to call the Eagle River Post Office to report non receipt of a package twice. The carrier states that she tried to deliver the package and no one was home. Yesterday was the latest; in tracking a delivery I see it stated that she tried to deliver the package but no one was home at 8:10 am!!! I was sitting in my living room working at that time...I would have seen her at the door, never mind we also have a doorbell. I think the woman can't read!!! Hm. Usually I have a 2 or 3 star experience here but I was pretty impressed and that doesn't happen too often at post offices. Upon arrival the parking lot was full but I still managed to get a spot. In my excitement of being a Christmas early bird I hurredly marched proudly with my boxes in the snow like those speed walker ladies in your neighborhood ;-) I came in and there was a loooooong line. The impressive part you ask? Those clerks were flying through customers. I spent less time in this crowded post office than I have when this post office is empty. Christmas 2017, I sent my daughter a box to Eagle River and was insured for $250.00. I told her to be watching for the slip in the mail box to go pick it up. When she came home from work on 12/16 the box was laying in front of her door. We would have been so disappointed had the box been stolen. Handmade items and valuables in the box. These amazing people are so caring and kind, They deal with so many people, nice and not- so- nice, but they keep smiling and helping. I love going in there and enjoy seeing these very wonderful employees. This is one of the best post offices I have been to ,, although they have all been good, this one raises the bar.
