During the height of the DOVID-19 virus, I needed to renew my passport. I tried to contact the post in the Lakeview area without any assistance since no one answers the phone. I decided to call this location for assistance. Within four rings, an attendant answered the call and was very helpful with my questions. Upon entering the building, there was plenty of notices regarding safety for the customers and for the employees. I was truly amazed there weren't any lines. I was able to grab a flat envelop and walk right up to the attendant. She was very professional and friendly with my request. Since I had paid for the service on line and printed the label at home, the attendant, just attached the label to the envelope. Gave me the acknowledgement the envelope was received. Overall great experience, granted it was about 3pm in the middle of the week. There seemed to be plenty of material a customer may need.

I was completely shocked that he would take the time to call me and reassure me that he was taking ALL my mail back to the post office so I could pick it up the next day. Sure enough I called him to just tell him I was at the post office to pick up my mail and he was more than happy to bring it down to my car, since it was a good amount of mail. What a gentleman, he was so nice and informative on what I should do to get my mail. I just want him to be acknowledged because I must be honest I had no faith in the postal service workers I had some bad experiences, but Mr. Reed changed that with his kindness. Again THANK YOU for your help and kindness especially at this time (Covid-19). We need more Postal people just like YOU! Sincerly, Mrs. Bez

They never have enough people working and the only working man is honestly one of the sweetest employees I've ever met. He's very sweet but they need to hire 83 of him. Please hire more people at this location! It does get fairly busy after work and I went at 10:30am on a Thursday and there wasn't anyone behind the counter for 15 minutes as an associate was belong locate a package for a lady-which is so nice of him but where is everyone else?! Some people even left the line as it was so crowded and they only had a limited time frame to come here. It was that bad! I've come here before when I've had packages to just drop and I use the kiosk but this time I had to go up there personally. The man on the left always takes customer service the extra mile and makes conversation and makes the patron feel welcome, so I have no complaints about him, but they need to employ more employees to help this poor man! I can tell he loves his job and I bet there are other people out there that loves this role too, please find them! Haha

Why yes, I AM giving a 4-star review to a USPS. Fight me!…read more Let me start by saying I had to mail a giant package recently, and I thought I was going to have to lug my happy ass a few blocks away from the Merch Mart. A lovely human I work with mentioned that we have a post office IN THE SAME BUILDING AS MY OFFICE, and I was filled with glee. I walked in around 2pm on a Thursday, and there was one other person in line. Let me preface what comes next with this: I often feel very dumb while mailing things besides cards and letters at the post office. I never know if I have the correct tape on the box, or if I just basically need to do something I didn't consider before arriving at the post office. I think I've had nightmares about not being able to mail something heavy that I carried to the post office. Anyway. When it was my turn to speak to an employee, the woman behind the counter, Leslie, told me that I indeed had used the wrong tape and that I needed an address label. But instead of treating me like I was dumb, like at most post offices (that's a funny start to a sentence but it's TRUE!!!), Miss lovely Leslie handed me some correct tape and an address label at no extra cost (does it usually cost more? who knows!) and just told me to go to the table on the side and fix my box. She told me to step to the side "in case anyone else gets in line, so [she] can help them." Good forward thinking, Leslie. Anyway, I fixed my box and mailed it and it still cost $20, which is a lot of money, but I mailed a big package so whatever. My point is that Leslie is an angel, this location is a godsend, and I'm glad I know it exists. And now you know it exists, too!

I'm not a fan of giving out one-star reviews but when it's warranted, on every single occasion,…read morethen you know what, I'm doing it! This post office is located on the first floor of the Merchandise Mart, near the entrance closest to the CTA. No matter the time of day, the length of the line, or how many people are working, this place is always a shit show. As many of the reviews mention, it's so bad it's almost comical. You can't make this up. It's honestly the worst post office I've ever visited in my entire life. Heck, the one in my neighborhood now isn't rated the greatest but the service is one hundred times better. Save your sanity and go elsewhere.

Do you know why I got myself a PO box? Mail theft at my apartment is rampant. If you order a…read morepackage, expect it to get stolen. One time I ordered something for same-day delivery, and even though I got there, an hour and a half after it was delivered, that package was already gone. Yikes. Hence, I thought I'll them shipped to a government building where it should be pretty safe. Now, I do want to mention, Amazon *can* deliver to a Locker or a Whole Foods, but not everything. Further, anything sent to me my non-Amazon can't go in a locker or Whole Foods. Now, while items delivered to the PO box would be held in relative safety, me getting it is another story. At the start, I found that packages weren't getting to me, with the clerk telling me that if there's no yellow slip in the PO box, then it hasn't been processed yet. Turns out, no. When the PO box was rented, cardboard was not removed from the back of it, which apparently signified that that said PO box was unoccupied. After lots of frustration, we finally figured out that, "oh, wait a minute, that cardboard shouldn't be there!" Okay, well now we removed it. I think it should be on the up and up from here, right? Not really. Not too long ago, I had a package that was shown as delivered and I came two days and some hours later to pick it up. I look in my PO box, and there's nothing. No package, no yellow slip, nada. I go to the clerk who tells me that after it arrives in the building, it takes two to three days to get processed. Really? After mail is delivered to the post office, it has to take an additional couple of days to get sub-delivered to the very same post office? Sure, it's a big building, but that doesn't make sense. Two more things about this location that have me pulling my fair out: 1. While to be fair, during my visits it wasn't super busy, there's usually only one or two people working behind the counter. 2. This post office allegedly has their street addressing service. That means that your PO box comes with a real street address you can use in additional to the standard "PO Box 1234 Chicago, Illinois." However, all but one of the staff seemed to have no idea what I'm talking about and what that address would be, even though I later saw it on a poster in the PO box area. Finally, if there is one area where I want to give them some points, it's that their hours are truly fantastic. They are open seven days a week, and on working days until midnight. This is perfect for me to be able to pick up my PO box items after work, even if I have to work a little bit late or if I need to mail something on a Sunday. Oh yes, and I almost forgot. The US Postal Service is kind of like Google... you can't really avoid it, unless you're going to send Christmas cards by FedEx. Just so, whether it's personally or where my job touches postal matters, it seems severe delays are as rampant as theft at my building.

I only found out recently, as I had gone into the Starbucks to dispose of a coffee cup from another, nearby Starbucks (true story). There was one customer at the counter and another standing in line in front of me. The customer at the counter appeared to have a complex inquiry, but it was nothing that got heated. The customer standing in line was able to make use of one of the post office boxes mounted on the wall, so I catapulted right to the front. Despite the fact that there was only one postal worker at the counter, I was able to get my package mailed quickly and efficiently. I was provided a receipt with tracking info, and the package was delivered as promised. Definitely will be coming back here for routine postal matters so that I do not have to brave the Loop location that can at times be Kafkaesque.
