The post office is kind of tucked away, but it is a beautiful building directly across the street from the sun and ski store. It is just after the gas station and the fire department. Apparently you have to go to the post office to mail things. Everyone in town has a PO Box. You cannot expect to receive mail delivered to your door whether you are a business or living at a residence. I always love a good drive up and drop off sort of situation but the only thing that was not great. Is that if you drive up to the mailbox, you had better have somebody in your front passenger seat to drop these off in the box itself. The box is on the right side of your vehicle. I guess you could drive in the opposite direction and then it'll be on the driver side. But, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Beautiful building and it was great to get here so early. There were no other cars in the lot.

Stopped by Benton Station the other day for lunch. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries…read more Unfortunately, the fryer was down for deep cleaning so they substituted a bag of Lays chips. Actually, this is an option for many menu items if you don't want fries. It saves you a couple of bucks and maybe a half-inch off the waistline. The 1/2 lb burger was well cooked, the bacon was tasty, and the lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions were crisp and fresh! I've visited several times over the seven years I've lived in the area and have always had a good experience. Make sure to try the pies if you have room for dessert... or maybe just have dessert instead? They completed a slight remodel a year and a half ago. Nothing major but the place looks nice and clean inside. The kitchen also received completely new appliances and a makeover. There's a small market attached if you need drinks or other sundries for the road. Gas pumps are outside and I think they got new ones recently as they appear to be an improvement over the old ones which were hard to read. Be careful as this is a remote out-of-the-way location so you'll find higher gas prices than elsewhere. Located at the intersections of Highways 6 and 120, Benton Station is owned by the Benton Paiute Tribe. Bishop is 35 miles south, about a half-hour by car. Tonopah, Nevada is 80 miles east, about an hour and 15 minutes drive. Hawthorne, Nevada is 84 miles north, an hour and 20 minutes. Mammoth Lakes via Highway 120 and Benton Crossing Road is 46 miles west, almost an hour's drive. The eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park (at the top of Tioga Pass via Highway 120) is 62 miles away, a little over an hour. If you're in the area and hunger is gnawing at your stomach stop by Benton Station for a bite and a little rest. They're open for breakfast and lunch only!

A Wonderful Step Back in Time at Laws Railroad Museum…read more We absolutely loved our visit to the Laws Railroad Museum & Historic Site in Bishop, California! From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. There was so much to see and explore that we could have spent hours there. The museum is like stepping into an entire little town from another era. There's an old schoolhouse, a library, historic buildings, station agent family home, doctor's office, firehouse and fascinating pieces of everyday life -- including old Maytag appliances. Every building seemed to have something interesting to discover. One of the highlights was riding the Brill train, which was such a fun experience and especially exciting for our 9 year old son, who absolutely loves trains. Another memorable part of our visit was meeting Makenzie, who was working on and cleaning the historic No. 9 4-6-0 Baldwin steam locomotive. Makenzie took the time to talk with us and shared some fascinating information about the train and its history. That personal interaction really made our visit special. It's really wonderful to meet a community of train enthusiasts. You can tell how much care, dedication, and passion goes into preserving this incredible piece of California history. It's truly a hidden gem and a wonderful place for families, history lovers, and, of course, train spotters! We highly recommend Laws Railroad Museum and can't wait to visit again!

The little town has movie set quality buildings full of antiques of how people lived from the 1883 building of the trains station through the 1960's when the train stopped coming through. Not to mention antique cars and wagons. Be sure to check out their 4-6-0 Baldwin steam locomotive in restoration. We learned Morris Code and sent messages on the Telegraph. You'll be pleasantly surprised and although we spent two and a half hours there, we could have stayed longer.

They said it must have gone to an old address and then they sent me home to apply for the renewal online. THEY NEVER CORRECTED THE ADDRESS. Such a simple task was not completed and my DL went elsewhere. It's a day away from Oct and I still have not gotten my license and they made it seem like it was my error. Expect the most minimal of customer service.

Upon my second visit, with the requested document, I was then told I needed something showing my physical address. In Mammoth Lakes we do not get US mail at our physical address due to snow. Nothing else was indicated. Upon my third visit, with the document requested, I was then told it also had to show my PO Box. Nothing else was indicated. Shortly after this visit, I hadn't been anywhere else, I came down with the RSV virus. I was extremely sick for three weeks. Upon my fourth visit, with the requested documents, I was then told I needed legal documents showing my name changes from two previous marriages and divorce. Documents 40 and 50 years old. Needless to say, I was extremely furious and frustrated! Why did it take FOUR visits to be told this?! And this was after waiting in line for a ticket, the employee verifying my paperwork, given a number and once again waiting. It was a waste of my time and money and theirs. Each visit was a 90 minute round trip along with all the time waiting. I am flying in June so decided to just go with a passport. Which I easily obtained. The employees need to be better trained as to what documents are needed from the person sitting in front of them to eliminate this from happening again to someone else. When I checked off all the boxes of what was needed, nowhere did it state needing these last documents. It wasn't until I googled exactly what was requested did it show this. It shouldn't have taken four visits to the DMV!
