Even when they are short staffed they go the extra mile to provide great service at a great value. Even on the busiest days you won't wait in line too long unless someone in front of you is getting a passport or opening a box. For such a small town they have an exceptional and consistent workload. Now the hiker must wait until Monday & waste time here since the package is too expensive for the hiker to afford to put it in a hiker box. Worse -- they charge for tape. I tried to buy a roll of tape & label for hikers only so they wouldn't have to buy tape & they said I couldn't do that.

Then we noticed a black car following us as we headed out the backroads towards the falls. We decided to turn around, and the car passes us and turns around. We drive out the front way, and stop ear the mines and the car stops about 1/4 of a mile behind us. So we get back in the Jeep and drive further out and pull to the side of the road. The black car darts past us, and stops hard and turns around and zooms back. We hauled ass and in the rear-view we saw the car turn around again. We were heading down Darwin Rd., in a raised Jeep, at about 95mph (no joke). So, if you guys do decide to visit this place, please be respectful of the people who live here and respect the barriers of road and yard- we didn't, we decided to check out someone's yard art, and it apparently pissed someone off hardcore. Stopped by Benton Station the other day for lunch. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries…read more Unfortunately, the fryer was down for deep cleaning so they substituted a bag of Lays chips. Actually, this is an option for many menu items if you don't want fries. It saves you a couple of bucks and maybe a half-inch off the waistline. The 1/2 lb burger was well cooked, the bacon was tasty, and the lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions were crisp and fresh! I've visited several times over the seven years I've lived in the area and have always had a good experience. Make sure to try the pies if you have room for dessert... or maybe just have dessert instead? They completed a slight remodel a year and a half ago. Nothing major but the place looks nice and clean inside. The kitchen also received completely new appliances and a makeover. There's a small market attached if you need drinks or other sundries for the road. Gas pumps are outside and I think they got new ones recently as they appear to be an improvement over the old ones which were hard to read. Be careful as this is a remote out-of-the-way location so you'll find higher gas prices than elsewhere. Located at the intersections of Highways 6 and 120, Benton Station is owned by the Benton Paiute Tribe. Bishop is 35 miles south, about a half-hour by car. Tonopah, Nevada is 80 miles east, about an hour and 15 minutes drive. Hawthorne, Nevada is 84 miles north, an hour and 20 minutes. Mammoth Lakes via Highway 120 and Benton Crossing Road is 46 miles west, almost an hour's drive. The eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park (at the top of Tioga Pass via Highway 120) is 62 miles away, a little over an hour. If you're in the area and hunger is gnawing at your stomach stop by Benton Station for a bite and a little rest. They're open for breakfast and lunch only!

I thought this Postal Office was something else and he informed me that it was always a post office. Built in 1932. Pretty cool.
