I stopped here this morning on my way out of town. I only needed to drop off some postcards that I'm sending to friends and family. The post office is kind of tucked away, but it is a beautiful building directly across the street from the sun and ski store. It is just after the gas station and the fire department. Apparently you have to go to the post office to mail things. Everyone in town has a PO Box. You cannot expect to receive mail delivered to your door whether you are a business or living at a residence. I always love a good drive up and drop off sort of situation but the only thing that was not great. Is that if you drive up to the mailbox, you had better have somebody in your front passenger seat to drop these off in the box itself. The box is on the right side of your vehicle. I guess you could drive in the opposite direction and then it'll be on the driver side. But, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Beautiful building and it was great to get here so early. I've lived in Mammoth for years and really appreciate Yuka, Fernanda and our other postal clerks. Always polite and helpful and working hard, even though they're chronically understaffed and dealing with tons of packages and mail for residents, seasonal workers, thru-hikers, and more. Dismayed by some negative reviews, such a bummer that some people just gotta vent. read more

Worst postal experience - I just got done paying $73 in late fees to the DMV as I went online to check when our registrations are due - 2 weeks ago was the answer but yet the notifications have yet to be delivered. Just received our tax return from our Accountant a full month after the post mark. Replacement credit card was delivered to the PO yet 2 weeks past before it made it into my box. Present I bought was returned to sender despite the Box number embedded in the address. Had it reshipped, another failure -$65 down the drain. I get it, they are a busy PO with staffing issues but this has been known since the beginning of time in Mammoth! Just getting worse. Unfortunately this is the only game in town for mail service. If you like me, are fed up, please file a complaint with the USPS Office of Inspector General. The only way this changes is from the top down as the folks at the location simply shrug their collective shoulders without an answer but always an excuse. An understaffed, forgotten wasteland, the limited staff do their best but it's a tough place to recieve mail.

Mammoth Lakes Post Office (MLPO) is located on 3330 Main Street and is accessible from Pinecrest Avenue (North Side) and Main Street (South Side). Architecture is notable and natural light floods in from the South and East facing windows. Who is the Architect? This is a busy location and over twenty people were in line on a Monday. One clerk was working in front, when asked if there was anyone else working I was told the two other workers were in the back helping customers. After the inquiry, the line moved quickly and within fifteen minutes the line dissipated. Yeah! Service is improving at this location and perhaps I can admit one can easily get spoiled at my local post office with over 4 machines to alleviate the line queue and sell everything from stamps to priority mail (even when post office is closed). Appreciate the service at MLPO and the help by Yuka. Thanks and see you again soon. read more

I rarely have anything here go right. I opened a PO Box last year, then found out 3 weeks later it was never unlocked. Had a bunch of stuff returned to the sender. They never have a reason for their mistakes. Over a month ago I renewed my P.O. Box and they never opened it back up again or filed the renewal paperwork. Then they wen and gave my PO Box to someone else! And of course my stuff I bought on eBay is not in there. They wouldn't tell me the new persons name but they definitely took my mail. They don't even deliver mail in Mammoth. How difficult is it to maintain a P.O. Box? And why the hell would you I've someone else my P.O. Box and throw away all my mail? Pathetic read more

This post office has been the best, when I walk to the front desk everyone is so nice to me, they always help me out with stamps or delivering a card to a different state, I have noticed lots of people getting mad because they don't have their package but honestly I have seen with my own eyes how they work and they are hard working there is lots to handle, lots of packages and cards and they still do their best for people looking for their package but obviously it doesn't appear right in their face so we should thank them for at least looking so thank them for all they have done! read more

The worst....lived in Mammoth for 15 years and the efficiency of this office is no better now than when I moved here... As an example, according to "tracking" my package arrived today, but the post office tells me they are short staffed today ( the day after a Fed holiday) SHOCKER ! and I won't receive my package until tomorrow. If they were a publicly run enterprise, they would be out of business. read more

Major theft going on in this Post Office. Packages never received, no accountability from workers, and according to a postal worker they have high staff turn over. I'm guessing there is internal theft going on when packages are tracked that say they have arrived safely to the Mammoth Lakes Post office and then they never make it to the PO Box they were shipped to. This has appeared to been an ongoing problem with this Post office for over a decade. If they don't have cameras inside I suggest they place them inside this federal agency. Had a bad experience with Scott - one of the counter clerks. My wife recently moved to Mammoth Lakes and had met him a few days before the incident, and he seemed fairly nice. He shared with us his desire to retire and move to Reno where he wants to deal poker. The next time I came in by myself. I asked how much to ship a small item to San Diego. He said $18+ for next day delivery. I then asked what the next lower price was, and he told me Priority Mail - $5.60 - should get there by Thursday. I said that will be fine and he handed me an envelope and address label to fill-out. I moved-over so he could help the next person, filled-out the label and got back in line (4 deep). This took awhile since Scott was the only person working at the window. When my turn came, he took the envelope & label and said $18+. I told him I wanted to send the package Priority Mail as we discussed. He "smirked" at me and said "Oh, that's a different envelope," smiled, gave me a new envelope, and asked for the next customer. No apology, no offer to fill-out the label so I wouldn't have to go back in line. I'm over 50 years old. I've been around a long time. I'm old enough and experienced enough to know when someone is screwing with me. If there was any chance this was an honest mistake, it would not have bothered me. But this guy did this intentionally. He's chatting with his "local" buddies, and deliberately screwing with me. His "smirk" and smile said it all. I filed a complaint with the Postal Service and received a replay from the Mammoth Lakes Postmaster. The Postmaster was very nice, but said it was a mistake and not intentional. With all due respect, unless Scott is Jesus or George Washington (never tells a lie) how does the Postmaster know who's telling the truth. He should remain neutral, because of course Scott's not going to say he deliberately screwed with a customer. This guy thinks it's fun to screw with people. IMHO, he should be removed from direct contact with the public and work in the back room only. read more

Best post office in town... Seriously though the people here are awesome and it's always super cool

I was very happy to enter this Post Office at 8:15 am and have it be open. There were 3 people ahead of me and they had 3 windows open. My time in line was very short. The lady at the window was very nice. I explained I was looking for my package that should have been delivered on Saturday. She went in the back and checked, told me they were still sorting and I should come back after 2 pm. No problem for me to come back. I am not sure why there are negative reviews on this Post Office. It is a small town and they do not have staff like other offices in major cities. If you don't go in expecting too much you will leave happy and satisfied. I am crossing my fingers that when I go back after 2 they will have my package. read more

Without this post office, there would essentially be no mail in Mammoth. The entire town is absent of mailboxes due to the amount of snowfall in winter, so you are forced to rely on PO Boxes. The hours are a bit funky, and they certainly do not agree with skiing hours. The damn place would always be closed long before I hit the mountain, and then open and close again before I got done. Getting packages must be your priority; there's no point in getting anything expedited unless you're tracking it from the hill. Even then, I had several occasions where my package was marked as "Delivered" on online tracking, I rushed off the mountain to the PO, but they hadn't sorted mail yet so I wouldn't actually get my package until the next day or later. Mildy frustrating? Yes. Extremely, really. Now, if all you get are little goodies (and bills) that fit comfortably in your box, god bless. Employees are friendly, and it borders on a small-town, "family" feel; however, that crossed the line into nosey territory on more than one occasion. Eh, I'll take it. read more

I opened up a PO box here to get mail in Mammoth now that we're living here. The first experience wasn't great but I won't dwell on that. Since then the team at the post office has been helpful and cheerful. Good ol' post office culture of laid back - get to it when you get to it. Not a bad thing but not great for efficiency. Michelle was INCREDIBLE. I cannot sing her praises enough. I have lived in Mammoth since I was 2 and have never met someone so accommodating, helpful, and sweet at the post office. My application to nurse abroad in Australia was send to the Ausstral Islands in French Polynesia by mistake. When I caught the error, I phoned the post office around 8 am and Michelle went above and beyond to track down my registered courier packet of important documents, follow up with the customer service/ post office in Santa Clarita where my package currently was, and then follow up again the following day to make sure the address had been changed. She kept me updated all along. She took an incredibly stressful situation and handled it. THANK YOU MICHELLE! read more

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds, is NOT the motto of the Mammoth Lakes Post Office...I'm serious, they actually told me that no one is willing to deliver mail in the weather of Mammoth Lakes! A package was sent to me via USPS, and Mammoth Lakes USPS boomeranged it immediately, with no open hours that I could receive it, and no notice. When I asked the Postmaster why, she said "they receive over 100 packages a day that they return to sender," and barked at me that "none of my tax dollars go to the USPS." She could not be less friendly, or empathetic about the fact that the USPS has just cost myself, and others, a lot of wasted money. The USPS needs to go away, they are a perfect example of government waste, and red tape. Shame! read more

Run of the mill USPO. Beware, a staff person told me they can receive Amazon and other UPS packages if you just append your box number to your last name. Well, she wasn't quite right. They receive UPS *SurePost* packages, the others (UPS 2nd day air etc.) they'll return to sender. Another staff member clarified this for me. If the first person had told me this, I wouldn't have rented a box at all. If you receive any significant number of packages I highly recommend renting a box at MBE instead. read more

Worst Customer Service, Incompetent Management, Long Lines & Short Hours

I'm traveling and have been here for 5 days. I started online business several months ago, so having a reliable mailing service was very important to me. I was very concerned when I read the yelp review. So the first day, I used Fedex in town (and paid 5 times more for 2-day mailing service). I figured that I can't afford to use other service continuously, so I decided to try USPS the same day. When I walked in, there were about 3 people in front of me and only one window was open. However, the line moved very fast. The lady at the window, her name is Debbie, was kind and very very nice. The whole thing took about 5 minutes. And I had the same experience EVERYDAY while I was at Mammoth. One time, there were 2 windows open. I guess the line was too long? But during my stay, I don't think I spent more than 5 minutes at the post office. Every time, Debbie greeted me with delightful smile. People also received whatever I sent out within expected delivery time. Soooo, I had a very good experience mailing things out. If you want to mail something out, try to be there by noon. Otherwise, it goes out the next day. read more

I wouldn't give mammoth lakes, ca. post office a 1 star rating, their rating should be a negative star. Just opened a p.o. box in mammoth, within one week, both parcels (orders I placed) were returned to the sender, The only mail I get in my new po box is from the person's who had the box previously. I filled out the proper forms yet my mail from my old mailing address is not being forward to my new po box. The huge lines, long wait, and understaffed, this is by far one of the poorest businesses I have ever dealt with. Caveat- If you have another alternative I would recommend people use it. Mail gets lost because of employees. I get someone else's mail in my PO box at least once a week. not to mention all my missing mail, having to call companies saying I never received the letters they sent out. Employees bitch about having the PO box right after your last name. I had my PO box right under my primary address. I don't even work at the post office and I would read figure out which PO box it went to. hopeless. read more
