TL;DR: Employees display astonishingly little care for their customers when it counts. It's quite unfortunate that my first online review on Yelp would have to be a negative one. But it's hard to capture just how much better the service was at the UPS store just down the street-- I showed up 15 minutes before closing, attempting to package an item with the lady at the desk (consider that I haven't had to ship many things before in my life), she guided me reasonably well through the process and it was pleasant. At this point the experience was of decent quality. But, roughly 3 minutes before closing someone came out to the area where I was packaging my item and slammed the gate closed behind me. I paused and then asked if I could just finish sending my package with the lady at the front, as I could see she was still there sitting at the desk from under the gate. Not a single employee responded, and I could hear several speaking amongst each other and one loudly mentioned that "some people don't care" clearly in response to another coworkers complaint about something, I found that shockingly ironic; after stating for a final time that I hate to be a bother, but I still have a few questions that require me to finish my order up at the desk, I was told "whatever you needed to do now could be done at the self-serve, because we close at 6:00." It was 5:59. Well, okay. I took my package to the UPS store on Woodward and was welcomed this time by two friendly employees who made my experience not only enjoyable, but fast. I paid about the same price that I would have with USPS to ship with UPS internationally, but it would arrive faster. So I'm not sure why I thought this was the place to go in the first place. Overall, I read reviews before going here that mentioned just how little the employees care, but I didn't expect that to stop me from getting my package shipped there today. read more

1. Never answer the phone; after about 20 rings, it disconnects the caller. 2. At the busiest times of the day, they have one counter open. Lovely to wait 20 minutes while that ONE counter agent manages a passport application for someone who does not speak English, and has an interpreter. (At least 3 other employees wandering around during this time, NOT helping anyone.) 3. Athena my mail lady is the worst mail person ever in the history of mail people. She picks and chooses days she wants to deliver to my home. We get wrong mail all the time. So we end up delivering their mail. She clearly hates her job and after multiple phone calls nothing ever gets done about her lack of doing her job. Today I brought a pre-paid box with postage bought online and the counter clerk threw it down twice on the scale trying to get a heavier reading. The reading was .20 ounces high which tells me that this location is cheating everyone who brings in a package that is on the cusp of being an additional ounce. Mine was barely 14 ounces so it didn't matter, but if my box had been 14.8 ounces they would have cheated me. Someone should file a class action lawsuit. The act of trying like the dickens to ring out more money on the scale is disgusting. Like a butcher putting his thumb on the scale. A Karma Umpire should give these people the thumb and show them the out door to unemployment and the manager in charge of the scale a prison cell. This location is very poor. The Brighton MI location puts it to shame. There, they have at least one or two more counter persons and move quickly. Birmingham is as slow as the days before scanners and self-adhesive stamps. They act as if they seem secure that they will face zero consequences for moving like they just do not give a hoot. As the line grows and grows and grows you can see they just couldn't care less. Look, I'm generally a pretty patient person. But this afternoon, I arrived at the post office at 12:05pm and left at 12:50pm. I was in line for FORTY-FIVE MINUTES. The post office had 1 (one) employee working the counter during the busy lunch-hour rush... and she was training. This is despite the fact that there were 4 (four) other employees present, doing other tasks. Maybe next time, don't put ONE employee - who's training - behind the counter during the busy lunch-hour rush. No one should have to wait 45 minutes. read more

This location has really gone downhill, and it wasn't that great to begin with. In the last week or so it has been closing the inside counters with a live person for "lunch"... gate down. I was told by another person who called from the lobby to ask why, and they were told they are short staffed and the one person there deserved a lunch. Of course they do. No one is demanding they work through lunch. What is concerning is they are closed 1 1/2 - 2 hours a day and the time varies each day. There is no sign to let anyone know when it will open again. I waited 20 min just before 3:00 with 10 other people today. The only reason I waited is someone thought they would open back up in "10 min" (not sure how that was communicated). 15 minutes later a woman came out to swap out the bin in the lobby that people were leaving packages in. She looked at us and went back in without any answer as to when they would open back up. 5 more minutes of waiting and I gave up. Terrible service with no regard for anyone else's time! read more

I'm only giving this post office one star. Ordered postage through their machine in the lobby that dispensed the wrong postage. Asked for help when that happened. The woman that came out was not only unpleasant but said there was not anything she could do. I find that ridiculous. If a company does not supply you with the correct order it is 100% their responsibility to correct their mistake even if it is a machine they put in their lobby to dispense the postage. Poor attitude. Poor customer service. No wonder people don't trust the US post office anymore. read more

This Is probably the worst post office I have ever been to. I've been there numerous times the wait is never less than 30 minutes and their employees let you walk up to the counter and then walk into the back room and disappear and let you stand there and wait even longer than you've already been waiting. Then they give you no suggestions on packing and cheapest way to send your package they don't care a lot about the customer. They will be chitchatting in the back room while you stand there waiting with a line behind you and they don't even care to come up to the counter and help people. Danny act like you're inconveniencing them when they actually come up to the counter and help you like they're mad that they have a line at the post office. There is only one person at the counter whether it's Saturday afternoon or Monday morning the busiest times. They have no idea how to move fast or how to get things moving. People don't have all day to stand in line at the post office. I actually even overheard them getting mouthy with one of their customers. I'm embarrassed to even step foot in that post office because the way that their Employees treat their customers. I would rather drive 45 minutes away to another post office then to return to this one ever again . read more

The Birmingham post office is in dire need of an enima. I am tired of dealing with neighbors mail being delivered to me, and my mail also being delivered to the wrong address. I had a wonderful carrier for years who was professional, and dedicated and never had these issues while he was on the job. Now I have a different carrier every week and most are constantly talking on the phone which might explain the mis-delivered mail. I also frequently ship items that end up missing with no explination or interest in finding a resolution. Today, my free COVID home test envelope arrived empty! Someone had opened and removed the tests and taped the envelope closed. I called the branch and was promised a callback after they talked to my carrier.....no one ever called. Calling the post office or starting a case online is a joke. I no longer use them for any shipping needs and have zero confidence in their ability to do their job. First time they said the worker was ill, which I understood, made another appointment, and this time they told me they're trying to find somebody to do the job, when I questioned why they would allow people to make appointments when they didn't have anyone to do the job, the lady on the phone was rude and could care less that not only was she calling me way too early, but that this was my second cancellation, and perhaps I actually NEED a passport!!! It is not the worst post office in the area, and I have tried them all. The self service machine is not usually broken or anything, but there is just one and when it is busy, you have to wait in line even for the self service machine but usually not too long. None of the post offices put the priority mail stickers out by the self service machine. I wonder why not, since that is one of the services the self serve machines provide. It would be nice if they would put the stickers out so your package can be identified for the postage class you have paid for. read more

I had a remarkable experience at the Birmingham, MI Post Office on January 5th, 2017. The post office is located at 1221 Bowers street. I am 54 years old and have mailed over 3,500 books. I have never been treated with such insolence and outright nastiness in my life. I normally mail my books in Royal Oak. This was my second time at the Birmingham Post Office. I had never met Eric before. He was the postal clerk who was supposed to assist me. The only packages I send through the U.S. Postal Service are books. I am used to being asked if there are liquids, flammables, lithium batteries, etc. in my package. Eric did not greet me in any way. In order to save him time asking me the usual questions, I told Eric there was only one book in each package and I would like to send them by way of media mail. Eric told me that I would have to send the books by Priority Mail Express or one or two other options because the packages did not only contain books. I thought that Eric had misunderstood me so I restated that there was only one book in each package and that I wanted to send them via media mail. Eric told me that I was lying about the contents of the packages and I would need to send them using a more expensive shipment method. It was clear to me that Eric was trying to instigate a fight. I did not take the bait. I stepped away from his station and stood behind a lady who was being helped by Shawn. As I was walking to Shawn's station, Eric said that Shawn would not send them media mail either. When the lady left, I told Shawn that there was only one book in each package and I would like to send them by way of media mail. Eric walked over to Shawn and told him that I was lying about the contents of the packages and he was not to send the packages by way of media mail. Eric told me that he was going to open the packages and return them to me, my eBay customers would not receive their property. He said I was wasting my money trying to ship the packages. When Eric stepped back to his station I told Shawn that I didn't know what was wrong with Eric, but that I was afraid to leave the packages in the Birmingham post office. This was also the first time that I had met Shawn. Shawn seemed to be alright to me. He told me that the packages would be opened and inspected, but the contents would not be damaged. I did leave the packages with Shawn. I also asked him for a direct phone number for the Post Office. He wrote the number 248-646-0723 on my receipt. Throughout the day I called the number 13 times (yes, really, I just looked at recent calls on my phone). No one ever answered. I called the 800 number at the top of the receipt. They put me in touch with a nice lady named Beverly at 313-234-8823. She called the Birmingham number and no one answered. She called a second number and did get through. They told her the Postmaster had no time to talk with her. They told Barbara that she could hold for Elijah, a supervisor. Barbara and I waited on hold for a while trying to talk over the messages they play while you are on hold. Barbara said that we could wait until the post office closed and no one would answer. We decided to hang up. At this point I called friends who have a Post Office box at that location. I remembered them telling me that they drive to the Berkley Post Office if they need to see a clerk. They told me that the clerk at the far right station, Eric, was incredibly rude and always upsold them to a higher priced shipping option. He always said they could not ship their items by their preferred method. Eric also handled their package in a rough fashion. My friends have observed Eric hassle many customers. This is why they drive elsewhere to see a postal clerk. I next talked to Mike at 877-876-2455. He is a very nice employee of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. He asked me a lot of questions. He told me he would look into the incident. I have never met anyone as aggressive and nasty as Eric. It is a shame that he has a customer service job. Eric would not be able to hold any of the jobs I have had. Wherever I have worked, you need to be polite or at least behave in a professional manner. Eric does not follow U.S. Postal service rules. He sets his own policies and prices and dictates to the customers. He is a bully. Something is very wrong in Birmingham. If you do go there, please do not let Eric push you around. Be prepared for his bad behavior. You need to stand up for yourself. If You observe Eric demeaning someone else, please help them out. Eric needs to understand that his behavior is not acceptable. Tried calling in several times just to be ignored, put on hold, then hung up on. Carrier Greg is rude and brings us other people's mail that aren't even near our office, but refuses to take it back. He ends up bringing it the next day no matter how many times we have written return to sender, not at this address. He tries to add the office ladies on Facebook constantly and gets rude when his requests are denied. read more
