One look at the sort of beings employed here and you instantly know why quite literally every single service they are supposed to provide either " isn't possible " ( which just means they're too lazy to do the jobs they were handed ), or it is done in the absolute worst possible manner. Of course, they hire based on who they are friends with, so the only possible way this location will ever improve is by firing the entire employee base and starting fresh, without engaging in any of the usual modern hiring practices and instead hiring based on merit/qualifications/experience. Until that happens, the rating of this embarrassment will only ever fall further ( not that it can go much lower than it already is ). Of course, hiding from false claims of " isms " and " ists " is infinitely more important than providing quality service to those in charge of such positions, having turned them into nothing more than a form of welfare by removing all meaningful expectations of such employees. What's with all the low ratings? I remember coming here with my mom when she shopped at the grocery store that used to be in Adams Square, or when she picked me up from Derby decades ago. I think it's been modernized since then. Plenty of parking. I was here the day after Christmas to send a package off to Chicago. Only one person was in front of me, and they had two postal workers at the counter. I was in and out in a flash. Service was friendly. I'm able to track my package so I can see that it hopefully arrives at its destination on Monday. read more

Extremely rude postal worker on Saturday, 5/31/25. I was at the post office to send out my wedding invitations, and the experience was shockingly unpleasant. I asked to see other stamp options, and the postal worker actually yelled at me for the request. Feeling uncomfortable, I just went with the stamp she selected. But after I handed my invites back to her to mail, she chucked them as hard as she could into a bin. This is such an important moment for me, and her attitude completely ruined what should've been a special task. I would avoid this location if possible, especially on weekends. read more

Employees of USPS of Birmingham MI at the desk have attitude. Need to be more professional. The few times I've been there they were snacking on potato chips and candy right at their desk. Other times talking on their phone. Arrived on a Saturday at 3:15 and they had the curtain closed, but I could hear them talking in the back. Online it says they're open until 3:30pm. This is the second time I've gone this week before the listed closing time and they've been closed. I went on Tuesday, 11/21 at 5:50 PM and they were closed. I went today, 11/24, at 5:35 PM and they were closed again. Now, I have to wait until 9:30 AM tomorrow to see if they'll be open so I can pick up my missed delivery. There were no notices on the doors or online that their hours had changed. The only reason I go to this location is to pickup missed packages or mail. Whoever manages this post office needs to resign. Went there to use the automated machine it was out of service. Went to the counter at 3:30 the clerk said they were closed. This is holiday time this morning the outdoor boxes were over stuffed and I could have grab lots of mail, of course I didn't but went inside to deposit my letters. I told the clerk they needed to empty to boxes now or mail could be stolen. She said have a blessed day. Someone did come out and was going to empty them after that. This is holiday and mail theft is rampant. Those boxes should have been emptied first thing in the morning not at 10:30AM. Try to find a good manager. read more

There is never a time of day that you can get expedient service. They have 4 windows but only 1 person working so you are never there les then half an hour. The women that work at this post office are hostile, rude and condescending. One of them processing passports today insisted that we needed my daughter's birth certificate when it clearly states on the Travel Department's website that we did not need it. She was so sure (although she did not have any documentation to show me that this is true) that she scribbled a little note to the Department of State letting them know that she advised me to submit a birth certificate, and then told me that they will be returning her application and not refunding my money. She is misinformed and righteously ignorant. This staff needs to be better trained, or they need to stop interfacing with customers. read more

We tried to get my daughters passport done here. I scheduled over two weeks in advance an appointment for my daughter to get her passport. My husband, a Hospital resident, had to take a day off which is a big deal in order for us to get her passport. They called 3 hours before scheduled time to cancel on us. I'm beyond frustrated as we will now most likely not be able to do our planned tripped. They need to keep scheduled appointments.I'm very agitated and will not return to this location. read more

Many of the window employees are ok. But beware of Brenda, self-appointed queen of the USPS and determined to scowl at everyone and ensure that the gate is slammed down at 6pm. ALWAYS rude. There should be a photo of Brenda next to the word "Officious" in the dictionary. And oh yeah, answering the phone? Nearly impossible to get through. In terms of mail delivery, my carrier is always on the phone and rarely shows up for work. Most days I have a substitute. I blame their union for protecting rotten behavior. In another business, Brenda would be fired for passive-aggression and rudeness to customers. I witnessed her refusing to correctly answer a customer who was mailing an expensive express mail package one day. I was going to rush over as she left and explain to her what Brenda refused to do, but another customer who had witnessed it did so. read more

I'm only giving this post office one star. Ordered postage through their machine in the lobby that dispensed the wrong postage. Asked for help when that happened. The woman that came out was not only unpleasant but said there was not anything she could do. I find that ridiculous. If a company does not supply you with the correct order it is 100% their responsibility to correct their mistake even if it is a machine they put in their lobby to dispense the postage. The people are pretty great here, but they're consistently understaffed, the lines are very long, and their new automatic service kiosk is a PIECE OF SH_T. I'd like to buy a vowel: i, please. These "updated" kiosks take twice as long to use, and everything is essentially manual now: you have to enter your full address (unlike the last system) and you have to provide exact measurements. Add a dimension scanner! First world problems, I know. But really... can't get over how poorly designed the kiosks are. Easily accessible and clean post office that normally is not as congested as other locations. Clerks here are typically very friendly, albeit the service is consistently slow... but what post office isn't? Nice aspect is this one as PO Boxes and one of the self server machines located in the atrium so you can get stamps 24/7! Super helpful around the holidays as you can avoid the rush for stamps and flat rate postage packages. Drive-up drop boxes too are nice and are separate from the parking lot to keep traffic moving quickly. read more

TL;DR: Employees display astonishingly little care for their customers when it counts. It's quite unfortunate that my first online review on Yelp would have to be a negative one. But it's hard to capture just how much better the service was at the UPS store just down the street-- I showed up 15 minutes before closing, attempting to package an item with the lady at the desk (consider that I haven't had to ship many things before in my life), she guided me reasonably well through the process and it was pleasant. At this point the experience was of decent quality. But, roughly 3 minutes before closing someone came out to the area where I was packaging my item and slammed the gate closed behind me. I paused and then asked if I could just finish sending my package with the lady at the front, as I could see she was still there sitting at the desk from under the gate. Not a single employee responded, and I could hear several speaking amongst each other and one loudly mentioned that "some people don't care" clearly in response to another coworkers complaint about something, I found that shockingly ironic; after stating for a final time that I hate to be a bother, but I still have a few questions that require me to finish my order up at the desk, I was told "whatever you needed to do now could be done at the self-serve, because we close at 6:00." It was 5:59. Well, okay. I took my package to the UPS store on Woodward and was welcomed this time by two friendly employees who made my experience not only enjoyable, but fast. I paid about the same price that I would have with USPS to ship with UPS internationally, but it would arrive faster. So I'm not sure why I thought this was the place to go in the first place. Overall, I read reviews before going here that mentioned just how little the employees care, but I didn't expect that to stop me from getting my package shipped there today. read more
