all but 1 team member here deserve 5 stars-- friendly, fast and I've hardly ever waited in line. One of the managers consistently displays some of the worst customer facing behaviors I have ever seen. If you are over 45 you might as well be invisible to her and I've seen her blatantly mock and make fun of customers after they leave the store. This happened right in front of me, multiple times using voices everyone can hear. I don't really enjoying mailing/shipping things. The process is laborious, tedious and often times soul crushing; however, Rachel at this location changed that today. Rachel, who I'm unsure as to whether or not she was an employee or manager, quickly took care of me, answering my questions with ease, helpful information and a smile (even though she was wearing a mask, you just KNOW when people are smiling). I'll most certainly be back to this location, not just because I prefer UPS to other shipping companies, but mostly because of Rachel's professionalism, expeditious assistance and overall kindness. If she's not in management the store owner would do well to promote her, and if she IS in management they'd best do whatever they can to help keep her happy. read more

I arrived on New Years Eve to drop off a shipment I needed to send today. I called ahead to see what their hours were with no response. Called back and again no response. I checked online and store hours said they'd be open until 7pm. Arrived at 3:15pm and I was informed that the store closed at 3pm. The guy said I could leave my packages in the open lobby where anyone could take them and someone would pick them up and ship them on Thursday. I was surprised and wholeheartedly shocked he would tell me to just leave my packages unattended in an unguarded lobby. I would guess that is against UPS policy but who knows. He would not physically accept my packages after much pleading. He was very rude and condescending as well and treated me with much disdain. So much for holiday spirit... read more

We tried to ship an insured wrist watch to Florida from Detroit and was told the cheapest option that UPS allows was $300 to ship the watch. My wife, choosing to believe the untruthful owner/employees of the store, agreed to the outrageous shipping charge until changing her mind and seeking a refund. Upon further investigation, I found out the "true" rate for UPS to ship the watch insured is $102.75, 1/3 the cost of that quoted by this dishonest branch. We specifically requested the cheapest shipping option available over and over, and the woman helping us at the store reiterated $300 was the cheapest. I find it disingenuous and fraudulent to hold yourself out as a UPS operation, when you set pricing THREE TIMES more than your company. This sure seems FRAUDULENT and employees are providing customers with FRAUDULENT information. DO NOT SHIP THROUGH THIS UPS STORE!!! *FOLLOWUP TO RESPOND TO OWNERS FALSE REPLY* While I appreciate the owners quick response to this negative review, which seems to indicate a repeating issue at this franchise - gross overcharging and taking advantage of customers who don't know better. While it is nice for Jennifer Midkiff to indicate it is their policy to ship via UPS Air Service (as opposed to Ground), what she is not saying is she is LYING for the price for the 2 day air. Per a check on the ups.com website, I am quoted $92.81 to ship a package of the appropriate size via 2nd day air. The quote says it will be picked up by 7:30pm March 10th, and will be delivered by end of day Tuesday, March 14th via UPS 2nd Day Air (last I heard, 2nd Day Air shipment is still shipping via Air). Ground service, which Jennifer again mistakes and misleads, is quoted at $74.25. To summarize, we very kindly asked them to ship our product via the cheapest way possible. They said it was $300. We checked online and the SAME 2nd Day Air that they quoted me is listed on the ups.com website (with appropriate and similar insurance levels) for $92.81. If anything, consumers should clearly interpret this reply by Jennifer Midkiff (owner) as continuing their trend and strategy at abusing and overcharging their trusting clients. BE WARNED... If you care about not spending 3x more than needed, do your own research. *FOLLOWUP #3* I went to FedEx less than one mile away and explained the issue and pricing provided at The UPS Store in Birmingham. I walked in 10 minutes before they closed with a huge set of vintage china that needed to be packed and shipped. Jenna was incredibly helpful in getting it ready to go. I was very nervous to ship it as it was my grandmother's china, but Jenna packed each piece with supreme care and it just arrived - all in one piece. I use this UPS store a lot. They have a newer employee that won't wear her mask properly. When I mentioned it to her, her response "well, when you wear a mask emery day, it slides down." Perhaps she can get a new mask?? Seriously, her employer hasn't noticed. I saw her again yesterday, same issue. She must not care, and her employer doesn't seem to either. The worst service you could possibly receive when we all are going through a Pandemic. I walked in on a Saturday morning hoping to get a normal days customer service. The lady opened the door and was not friendly at all. I guess she didn't want to be there. She was yelling at everyone to drop off their package and they didn't need a receipt, I was trying to get a package out to my daughter in California, who is working endlessly helping in the clinics and keeping people safe. She is a Doctor and I wanted to do something for her. She repeatedly told everyone who walked in with their packages that they were offering only 2 or 1 day air and no ground shipping. While there were people walking in and out she wanted me to give my daughters address across the store for all to hear! I am healthcare worker too. Didn't think we had to give up our privacy. Anyways, . I figured I would let it go since there was fear around everyone. And my daughter would get the package by late Monday or early Tuesday. After all I had to pay for 2 day air ! She didn't give me a copy of the label , just the receipt and said I could leave. I asked her if she got the label as the package was not taped either. She was quite annoyed. I left and tracked the package on Monday and it had not left the store as yet. When I called the 800 #, they said there was a charge for the package but they could not track anything else and I should contact the store. So, the lady, Jenny turned out o be the owner who does not care , what a disappointment. Also, 2 day is not a guarantee it could 3 -4 days. Even though you pay for it. My daughter hasn't still received the package. I would not recommend this UPS store. She clearly didn't want to be there. I don't think she wants the business either. Very positive experiences shipping items at this location. They have also packed items for me on occasion, which always was done with care. Reasonable prices, and the reliability of knowing that their business is riding on the quick and safe delivery of your item. I find the process of shipping a package to be intimidating, but was pleasantly surprised when I was met with friendly assistance at this UPS store. My past experiences at other shipping facilities (I'm looking at you, USPS...) usually left me feeling that I was an inconvenience. Nick was helpful, patient, and most importantly, didn't make me feel like an idiot for my lack of shipping knowledge. The only small downfall can be the parking, depending on the time of day. The pretty dark-haired woman with the tattoos who works here, and may be the owner, was very rude to me and my friend when we went to have a package mailed out during the Covid crisis. She literally told my friend to leave the store since she did not have a package (even though we were both wearing masks) and she was very abrupt and demanded I stand back until she was ready to receive me. Once I got to the front of the line she continued to mumble how irritated she was that people were coming to the UPS store to mail packages when there's a stay at home order. She was clearly distressed about the situation and exhibited a lot of fear which transformed into rudeness to her customers. I understand her concern but what I don't understand is why she was working, rather than having someone else do it, if she was not able to emotionally handle the situation. Her rudeness to every customer that attempted to walk in the UPS store was unacceptable! I started going to the UPS store in Royal Oak and they were professional and kind and efficient when taking peoples packages without making them feel uncomfortable. Perhaps the Birmingham UPS owner could learn a few cues about customer service and professionalism despite her fears and phobias. read more

I was visiting, in need of notary service. When the store got a mini rush. The employee, named Sean, handled those customers in record speed. He was polite, explained the different labels to the customers, and handled the different services that UPS offers. The line that I thought would be 20 minutes, turned out to be a little more than 5, that being only because I exchanged my placed to someone that had a drop off. Kudos to a Sean!!!! This is a really great place to ship your items and receive mail. They are very quick and organized and always asking if they can help with anything. A BIG thank you to all your staff. Your staff is always saying Hi and helpful right away. Customers service 5 stars. I had a friend that referred me to use this place cause she had a great experience and her mail and boxes were always so easy to retrieve. They also sign for all packages so you don't have to wait for anything. Also you don't have to worry about your packages sitting outside your house in bad weather or worry someone will take. read more

I stopped in this location to buy several large boxes and tape to hold gifts for my toy drive. The owner asked what I needed them for and when I told her she not only gave me a large discount, but threw in the tape for free because I was using it for a charitable purpose. Bravo! I mailed a package from this store on January 2. According to UPS tracking--it never left the store. I have spent the last two weeks trying to track the package and file a claim. When I originally called the store, the employee said, "Well it's not here. You have to call UPS." Two weeks later, after hours and hours on the phone and online filing a claim, I was sent by UPS back to the store as they have to file the claim. At the store, I was told I didn't take out insurance, so my $1300 worth of merchandise is only eligible for $100. I was never asked if I needed insurance. The cost of to ship the package was $69.27. The day I shipped the store was mobbed and filled with packages--a chaotic atmosphere. The whole process has been a nightmare, and I'm out $1300. This store is a franchise. They don't take responsibility and neither does UPS. Never shipping from here again. read more

The people here are so rude I usually drive a few miles south to the UPS store by Orvis because they are so nice. Not wanting to face Woodward traffic I tried this shop again and again RUDE! The woman behind the counter said she wouldn't charge me THIS time for taping the top of an Amazon return box, implying next time she sure would. She didn't even tape the box, just sealed it with the shipping label sticky envelope. There was a UPS driver loading his truck and he witnessed the exchange. As I passed him in the lot I said "That's the kind of customer service that makes me want to use FedEx." He laughed and said "yup." read more

I've been in here twice now to ship items that I wasn't confident I could safely pack myself. It's pretty pricey, though I can't say I was shocked. The first time I went in, the employee that helped me was nice, maybe a little quiet and reserved. The second time, though, the owner helped me. She struck me as very uptight and not even a little friendly. The brief smile she offered seemed fake and forced and when I asked questions about different pricing options, she became downright rude and impatient with me. I have shipped several hundreds of dollars of packages to NY and other states. Everything always arrived okay until one day a part of a shipment arrived broken. I had purchased insurance and when I called the store asking how to claim it, the owner, Jennifer, was not only not helpful, she was rude and not at all nice. Instead of helping me with my claim, she kept telling me all the reasons my claim might not get paid. I had dealt with her in the past and she was never nice, but I didn't know she was the owner. Had I known, I would have gone elsewhere, which I will from now on. DON"T go there. There are other places where you will be treated better. When I spend that kind of money for a service, I expect to be treated nicely and for the owner to be helpful. read more
