It has been around at this address for as long as I can remember. and for most of the time that I've lived at my present location (and that's a long time now), they've been my mail carriers (there was a period of time when I thought my mail delivery had been switched to the location on Allen Rd., but I don't think that lasted very long). I can't say I've ever had any real problems. Some of the mail carriers over the years have been great, some not so great, but none that were awful (although there was one carrier when I first moved in who had trouble finding a particular address that he had to deliver a package to...it wasn't me...and finding an address in my development can be difficult...but I remember him stomping through the hallway, growling to himself, swearing and muttering like Travis Bickle without the Mohawk, and I thought at the time, "This is the kind of guy they were talking about when they invented the phrase, 'Going postal.'" I never complained about him, but other people might have, as he didn't last long. Thankfully, he didn't shoot anyone that I'm aware of). Somewhat off-topic side comment: When I got laid off some years ago, I panicked, and was willing to try any job that came along, pretty much. At one point, I applied at the Post Office...not this one...and took a test. I've never been nominated for Mensa membership, but I figured I was reasonably intelligent, and the test would be a breeze. It wasn't. Intelligence really isn't a critical part of the criteria: your "short term" memory skills are paramount and have to be pretty advanced. My short term memory...never very good to start with...has deteriorated with the advancing years and the aftereffects of too much grog and too many "happy pills" and maybe a few other things along the way. Bottom line: I never was hired as a mail carrier. Which, in retrospect, is a good thing-- good for me, and good for those uncounted multitudes depending on yours truly for their mail delivery. Anyway... Back in the day, I'd come to the Brownlee Pl. location often because I'd get a lot of money orders...in addition to the grog and "happy pills," I was addicted at the time to buying crap on ebay...and Brownlee Pl. is close to the Wells Fargo I patronized. Brownlee Pl. is a narrow side street with not much parking. The P.O. parking lot is small, and almost always full. Inside is a large lobby, and then you pass through glass doors into the area where you can conduct whatever postal business you've come to conduct with the available clerks. Usually 1, maybe 2 during very busy times. One downside to this place is that it opens relatively late in comparison to other area post offices (although as 1 reviewer has noted, the advantage to that is that it stays open later than other area post offices). Often there was a long line, so if you were in a hurry, you were screwed (if I needed to just buy stamps, I went to some other, less crowded location). But, in my experiences, the clerks were usually pretty friendly and helpful once you were able to reach them. Sometimes, a mail carrier would try to deliver a package to my place that I was supposed to sign for, I wouldn't be around, and they'd leave a sticker on my door. Usually I could pick up the package the next morning at the post office without any undue difficulty (1 time I had to go to the Allen Rd. location to pick up a package, but that was an isolated event. Not sure if they were temporarily my mail carriers, but every subsequent time I've had to sign for a package, it has been at the Brownlee Pl. location). This need to pick up a package hasn't happened in a long while, but it happened the other day. I had ordered a package from overseas, and I was supposed to sign for it. The sticker on my door had fluttered down to my doorstep, but when I came home from work I was able to retrieve it and realized what I was going to have to do. There was a part of me that cursed and said to myself, "I wish they would have just left the f'ing package on the doorstep!" However, there have been "porch pirates" at work in the area occasionally, and I did pay a lot for the package, so I shrugged it off. The mail carrier was just doing his/her job responsibly, and I was just a lazy b*stard. Next day I drove to the post office early, just before they opened for business. Early, but their tiny parking lot was already full; I was able to secure the last spot. Thankfully, there were only 1 or 2 people in front of me, and I didn't have to wait long (they also have spots/signs marked out on the floor for "social distancing," which is a good thing). The clerk was friendly and when I presented my sticker, she was able to find the package without too much difficulty. I'm almost always braced for the "worst case scenario" to play itself out, but in this instance, I was spared. All in all, I like this place, and don't have any substantive complaints to make about the job they do, or the way in which they do it. Recommended. read more

Basking Ridge Post Office is the best most friendly post office in Somerset County. The service is wonderful. the girls behind the counter always have a small on their faces. The Basking Ridge post office counter opens relatively late (10am) but makes up for it by closing late (7pm) on weekdays. The Yelp page shows the PO box lobby hours, not the window hours, don't let that mess you up. Four counters inside but I've only ever seen one open. Staff here is perfectly friendly, not any slower then pest office staff anywhere else lol. It has been pretty easy to ship overnight envelopes from here. Plenty of free parking too. read more

Apathetic government employees have this post office held hostage! It is absolutely the worst I have ever experienced. I hope that President Trump allows the USPS to fail & go bankrupt because it is a broken system. It needs to be privatized because this once great American institution is a failed dying shell of itself. I remember the respect the postal employees had for the public & how we loved the postal system! In the 24 years I have lived in Basking Ridge, I have been delivered more wrong mail (envelopes & packages) than I can count (no lie ... hundreds!) & have NOT received countless pieces of mail in return. Thankfully, I have neighbors that will hand it to me & vice versa. I have even driven across town to deliver mail to people! I will sometimes just write on the mail "Delivered to wrong address" and place it back in the mailbox. I have had knocks on my door & phone calls from post office staff telling me "I AM BREAKING FEDERAL LAW BY WRITING ON U.S. MAIL"! If only they were as concerned about doing their jobs properly as they were at me pointing out their blunders! I have called numerous times to no avail. I have even called the POSTMASTER GENERAL IN WASHINGTON D.C. & all you get are excuses. Whether you walk in the post office or see a postal employee delivering mail you can tell how miserable they are at their jobs. I have worked in the service industry & understand how difficult it can be at times. We do, however, have choices in life & if one is unsatisfied with their job then seek employment elsewhere. They obviously don't because they can do a lackluster job & get away with it! IF YOU EVER THINK THAT SOCIALIZING MEDICINE IN THIS COUNTRY IS A GOOD IDEA & WANT TO PUT ALL OF U.S. HEALTHCARE IN THE HANDS OF A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE JUST WALK IN HERE ONE DAY!! WHAT ABOUT THE CURRENT PUSH TO "VOTE BY MAIL"?? So the reason for my current post? I understand there is a pandemic ... I understand things are slow ... I understand we need to be patient ... I understand the public can suck ... BUT my order for much needed face masks gets RECEIVED & ACCEPTED by the Basking Ridge Post Office ONLY TO BE SHIPPED OUT & "LOST" by the Basking Ridge Post Office!! Michelle is very rude. Avoid her at all costs. She gave me the wrong forms to fill out and charged someone else's card for my packages. What should have been a 10-minute transaction, ended up being a 30-minute battle. This was my first experience sending an international package so I wasn't entirely clear on which form to fill out. I asked Michelle and she snapped at me. When I filled out the form that she gave me, it ended up being the wrong one. Two forms later...she finally got it right. When it came time to pay, it seems that she had charged 3-4 customers' credit cards with the wrong packages. That is pretty concerning. Given this, you would think that she would be more attentive to my transaction. No. She decided to step away and service another customer. When she jumped back to my transaction, she overcharged me. This seems to be a repeating trend with her. Not only does Michelle provide bad customer service, but she's also incapable of doing her job. The combination of these two characteristics can be very aggravating for customers, who she continues to torment and provoke. This location should really consider coaching Michelle on customer service and, quite frankly, how to do her job. read more

This is the second incident, first time I couldn't locate the fathers day gift that indicated was delivered three days ago but we never received it. I went to the post office to inquire about it and they told me it shows that it was scanned right in front of my house, I kept repeating that I never received it but nothing. I go home and guess what's in my mail box, the package just appeared!!! Yesterday I was supposed to receive a package that was a graduation gift!! It was not delivered and I went to the post office today since I have a flight to catch. The lady Kiran told me that the delivery van is on my street so I should head back, I asked if I could get exact location since I live 5 minutes awY but she said she does not have specific info, guess what there is no van and I keep rooming around. Kiran, while I am riding my Uber I found out that you could have flagged the van, you could have helped me but you chose to play rookie, now I have no graduation gift!!! read more

Michelle is absolutely condescending and obnoxious. She really was baiting me and wanted to pick a fight with me over paperwork for passport. I had "old" forms filled out when I arrived, so had to start from scratch with current ones for three kids. She must be really bored, because she sat there and kept commenting on my lack of cooperation...as I was standing quietly filling out the new forms. Then she screwed them up, possibly intentionally, and now my husband and I have to go to notary now to fix the problem. And she dared to tell me she should get paid more to deal with me! Unbelievable nerve. It's a miracle I didn't bite my tongue off. All I did was stand there and try to fill out the paperwork, while she continually interrupted, and told me I should smile. Maybe she should shut up and just do her job properly or get another one. No wonder people go postal. read more

If only I could give this post office Zero stars...although I'm feeling vindicated reading all the other negative reviews of one particular employee, Michelle. If you have a passport application to process, please do yourself an enormous favor and go to Liberty Corner instead. Trust me, this woman will make the process a nightmare for you. Dealing w/her is like being in a Soup-Nazi Seinfeld episode or SNL skit, she's that bad. Michelle takes perverse delight in finding ways to trip-up the process for you, all whilst being condescending and arrogant. I've had nothing but awesome service at the Basking Ridge Post Office. I'm certain if you had a bad experience, it's certainly NOT the workers....Period. I can personally say that Michelle, Anna and Hemel are always professional, efficient and attentive. I've seen some people get upset when asked to step to the side to complete their transaction while they keep the line moving. Perhaps you should try using another branch. AWFUL! if I could have another company deliver my mail I would!!!! WEEKLY packages of mine are delivered to the wrong house (HOUSES down from me!), left in the mulch (clearly thrown), in the garage, behind cars, on garbage cans, around back, and even INSIDE my car one time when the window was open! etc etc. well once again a package went missing, called the post office because it was marked delivered for this past Saturday...we're on Monday. Got a NASTY woman who kept interrupting me, when I asked to speak to a supervisor she told me "you have to give me all the information (which I had given multiple times) before you're allowed to speak to a supervisor". Needless to say I said I was done talking to her and wanted to speak with the supervisor. Supervisor got on the phone and was a JERK!!!! Kept telling me it's marked as delivered and that the driver says he put it in the mailbox...it's too big to fit in the mailbox. Anyways, she was AWFUL! kept telling me they delivered it, not their fault blah blah blah. Well, what would you know....it was delivered today and SMASHED into the mailbox. The box for my shoes is completely destroyed!!!!!! Called the post office and was told the supervisor was out delivering a package to an upset customer. Pretty confident that was me. There is one mailman who is LOVELY. But everyone else I've ever dealt with at this post office in 15+ years is AWFUL! read more
