Long lines, unfriendly service, cold environment…read more So you can imagine my surprise when I pulled up to a pretty nice building with a nice parking lot about 45min before closing in a Friday. I walked through the front door and had to check my bags for security before going through a metal detector. The security guards were so nice and explained what you needed to do and where to go. I went over to the kiosks after, got a number and took a seat. They have all of the numbers on the tv screen in front so you can see your number while they announce it on the loud speaker. They also have different Halls names after Carolina sports teams to make the place feel more personal. My number was called and I went to my assigned window. The woman who helped me was so nice and efficient. I was in and out in just over five minutes. Then in less than a week, I got what I needed in the mail. This office was the opposite of everything I thought it would be...so incredibly efficient, nice and a good experience!

I arrived early around 11:50am for my 12:10pm appointment and I did not get seen until 2:05pm. I just needed a new ss card so from the time I was called, sat seen and left, it was less than 2 min. At 2:07pm I was walking out the door. Apparently they were dealing with a Government shut down so a lot of things they were not able to access and a lot of people had to leave because they were not going to be able to be given any information. Also, they do NOT take walk-ins. An APPOINTMENT ONLINE MUST BE MADE!

So, I drove down to Rock Hill and completed my passport in about 3 minutes and left with a smile on my face. To say my experience with carmel rd was bad would be sugar coating it. I will not return to that office even if i had a drive 100 miles out of my way to go somewhere else. The parking lot is tiny and people with their large Ballantyne SUV's are crazy so just be careful. It is also a little weird to get in and out, even though it appears like it's on the corner of Elm and Ballantyne Commons, it's actually just adjacent so you can really only access it from Ballantyne (and the exit is just one-way onto Ballantyne). There is a business park you can cut around back from Elm, only there are a lot of cars parked on the side street so just watch for opening doors and people crossing the street. This post office has a lot of PO Boxes too so lots of people probably dropping in and out for services here. I would think they would make a larger building, but I'm not sure how that will help the ever-present line (it may make it worse).

Since I come from a similar work background, I truly understand how fast-paced things can be, and I appreciated how she still took the time to treat me with care. I even mentioned to her that she should visit some of the inner-city locations to help train staff, because her level of professionalism and kindness really stands out. It truly costs nothing to be kind, and she proved that. After living in Charlotte for over 20 years, I can honestly say this was the second best customer service experience I've had so far this year. While we had trouble finding 2 to 4 year old age-appropriate books at other locations, South County Regional satisfied our needs. The library itself was newish, clean and easy to get to, with available free parking. Unlike some other libraries in the district, this one had more library materials but fewer things (toys and games) for kids to play with. Nice library and recommended.
