Who likes going to DMV, show of hands please, no one? What a dread and unnecessary too as I paid my vehicle property tax in early Nov knowing my registration and tag decal expires end of month. USPS let's me down and nothing in the mail even though their web site, Informed Delivery says it arrived. Nope, didn't arrive, so what to do? Call DMV, no Go to Post office, no Call York County Property Tax, no. Their web site says they open at 830a so I was there at 815a and already a HUGE line. The doors open at 830a and the line moved quickly. It was helpful they had a staff member at the door asking everyone what they needed and advising which window number they go to. She asked for my documents and I showed her my paid property tax receipt and she directed me to window #3. The lady wearing the mask clearly didn't want to be there. I stood there while she was shuffling papers and on her computer waiting for her to acknowledge me which she didn't. Finally she looked up and said 'do you need something'? Wow, excellent question. I explained in detail what I needed. Then she said, 'well you're going to need your property tax receipt, your current registration and proof of insurance'. I reached in my back pocket and pulled them all out. She was SHOCKED I was prepared. She examined all the documents with the scrutiny of an archeological find and found everything in order. Another lovely experience at the esteemed DMV. Ya'll are getting better but there's still room for improvement in the Customer Contact department. None of us want to be there either. read more

DMVs are often a pain point for a lot of people myself included. This DMV was different. Greeted at the door for checkin and given a number. This is where it can all fall apart. While most do pay attention to the numbers being called and the video board that shows the numbers, many people do not and this is what contributes to a slowdown. People are on phones, headphones in ears etc so they miss hearing their numbers or are late getting to the counter. When my number was called, I moved to my counter, presented my documentation and all went well. People please have your documentation correct before you go. I had to deal with DMVs in several states over the many years of driving/owning cars. The SCDMV in Bluffton is awesome. I have had to title and register vehicles (5 over the past few years) and get new drivers licenses when we moved here, as well as the car registrations renewed. They were friendly, helpful, and knew their jobs. Regardless of how long the waiting line appeared to be (sometimes out the door and around the corner), it moved much more quickly than i am used to at government offies. As long as I had the paperwork they requested (the instructions, which are clear an complete, and almost all the forms, are on line), properly filled out with the requested supporting documents, I was ushered in quickly, got a number, and quickly (never waited more than 20 or 30 minutes) I was called up to a station. The processing was quick, efficient, and I left with whatever i needed, a license, registration form, tags, title, in hand and done. Renewal is a piece of cake, and the new stickers and current registration arrive on time. Kudos. In all of my visits, I had only one issue becasue i did not follow the instructions and bring what I needed. My fault. what was even better is that i did not have wait until i got all the way up to the service counter to find out. The screener at the door picked up on my error, told me how to fix it, so that i wasted as little time as possible. If it takes you too long to get something done, or have to go more than once for the same thing, it's very likely you are not doing something right, not the DMV. Most of the employees are friendly. Some appear to be brusk, but they are just being efficient and trying to get everyone in and out as quickly as possible. read more

Seriously the best DMV ever. This is a well oiled machine and everybody working here is beyond laid back. I've been here 3 times for IDs for myself and my wife. The 2nd time I didn't have my stuff together so they checked my things and sent me away before I waited all day. Best experience EVER in obtaining a necessary required document. I have had to renew my driver's license, renew car registrations, and update my social security card. This place is amazingly organized. First, you enter a line to "check in". You state you purpose of being there and present documents you have. The agent then tells you if you can proceed or if you need additional documents. Although I have been turned away once, it was for good reason and it saved me and others time standing in line and wasting another agent's time. I returned, successfully passed initial review and entered the land of receiving a "gold" number. We were out in 30 minutes with a new driver's license and an approved handicap placard due to a broken foot! No need to take an entire day to due such errands. Great and friendly staff that know what they are doing makes a HUGE difference. read more

While the women helping me was very nice and very helpful I still only am giving this place two stars. I called the DMV three times prior to me going I received three different sets of directions from each person. I went on my one day off with the information from my last phone call. I arrived and the women told me I needed two things that the women on the phone had specifically told me I didn't need. Very frustrating as a working individual who has to take off work to get there. I went to the DMV today (11-18-21) and was very impressed with the people working there! I got there 30 minutes before opening. There were already a few cars in the parking lot so I got out and stood by the door. Once I did that other people stepped out. Don't be shy about that! Lines get long fast there! The people that work at this DMV are very nice and professional. There were plenty of windows open so if you are there early you will get taken care of right away. Before going to the DMV in Lancaster I read reviews to get an idea of what to expect ...they were not that great either. according to personal experience today... the reviews are pretty accurate. I had all the paperwork I needed and have had a license most of my life, am a veteran and apparently the state of SC 20 yr old representative decide I need to go back 44 years to find records that are probably archived and just because younger folk think everything is online does not mean that it is...so basically I can not transfer my valid NC license to SC where I just bought a house in which if I do not get this all sorted about my property taxes can go up significantly! which is why I wanted to get it done now so I can actually enjoy the house I just bought that I worked extremely hard for and the past yr working in SC! was she being discriminating because I had a name change? well I had nothing do with the 1 that was done 44 years ago but really this is extremely disappointing when folks try to do what they are supposed to do and get ran around because someone behind a desk is has no idea records like that can be almost impossible to find if a person has neither parent to ask. must be nice to be ignorant and oblivious and obstinate to think other state licenses are incompetent when issue drivers licenses. We are new in SC, but both times I've been there, at the Rock Hill branch, I noticed their professionalism from the sign in team to the clerks attending us. Everybody was up to bit, doing what needed to be done with the issue we were there for. We was there for changing DL and for beginner permit for my son. I don't think there such thing as a perfect DMV but given the volume that most DMV's have to deal with people and things that they have to accomplish in a short span of time these guys crank it out pretty good. I thought this was the bests dmv, but after finding they registered my vin number wrong when I moved here and supplied the title, insurance card etc, a year later I now had to go to my credit holder to get the title back and make 2 trips to county assessor to have it corrected and now have made 2 trips to both fort mill dmv which both times had a line wrapped around 2 x and almost out the door! Plus I have health issues and and wait 1-2 hrs (yes I did spend over 1 hour on line when I went for a handicap sticker and again for my drivers license). Went to Rock Hill which people complain about, but there are minimum lines as well as a faster move through process. Sorry people may feel Fort Mill is better but the lines and wait along with clerical errors are not worth it. read more

I went to the Rock Hill DMV, and that was an absolute nightmare! I was in and out of the Fort Mill location in 30 minutes, which never happens. Although the Rock Hill location is closer for me, I will only go to Fort Mill, from here on out. The customer service was refreshing also. At my previous trip to the Rock Hill DMV, I was told I didn't have the correct documents (which I did). Quick service! Came here to drop off a tag and as soon as I sat down I got called! Friendly staff too! I was there for not even a minute.

so i was trying to call up here to ask a simple question. when i called it just said i can't leave a message and to call back later then hung up, so i tried to call back later 25 times and still never got to speak to a person regarding my question. this is not okay. i do not have time to come up there just to ask a question that would take 5 seconds over the phone. but for some reason i will have to do that because the people there are to lazy to answer the phones. so if someone could ask them to stop being SO LAZY that would be great. read more

I went to the Charleston Orleans Road DMV after waiting two weeks for an appointment. We had a registration problem since it never arrived and it was due to an insurance computer snafu. To make a long story short Susan came to my rescue and solved the problem so I did not have to wait weeks for another appointment and registration. Today I visited the SCDMV in Spartanburg,SC to have them correct a misspelling of my middle name. Mind you, I've had my drivers licence for over 40 years and it has in the past been spelled correctly. This recent misspelling has made it difficult to purchase a handgun and recently made it impossible to obtain a concealed carry permit (CCP). Wasn't a big deal to go and have it corrected but what really gripes me is that a state agency of South Carolina actually had the nerve to charge me to have them correct a mistake that THEY actually made. The $10 charge wasn't a lot of money but it was the principle. I will note that when you get a new licence, they now tell you to check to make sure all the information is correct, something they never did in the past or this would never have happened to me to begin with so you can bet I did check all the information on the corrected one thoroughly before leaving. read more

First impressions are everything and my first and second impression were with her behind the desk and she was a peach.... Doesn't smile or greet. She looks as though she is depressed and hating herself and everyone around her. She is not friendly... I'll regret having to come here every time because she ruins the entire experience. My elderly mother called the 803-896-5000 number and spoke to a representative by the name of Estes ID# 8069 he was extremely rude to my elderly mother. She asked him if he could take a payment over the phone for her renewal. He stated "Nope" she then asked if he could assist her with the online website so she can pay her renewal he stated "NOPE" then he proceeded to say he could tell her how to get to the right spot to pay it. Customer Service is top priority my mother is elderly she is in her 70's I feel that he should have been a little more helpful in assisting her. He should always be respectful. He never once suggested anything yo her nor did he provide her with the time frame that she has to get it renewed. Upper management need to speak to Estes #8069 about the customer service that he is providing to your customers I would not want someone to experience this type of customer service. read more

called up the MOTOR VEHICLE S.C to make an appointment because i lost my registration. Was told there is no appointment needed for a duplicate registration. Just go there. i went there Wednesday morning june 24th. I was 1st one online before 8 AM.. When finally the place opened at 8:30 am. Big rude black lady greeted me and told me i must have an appointment. Then rudely told me get behind the door Wait there as she proceeded to let everyone else in before me. Even people who had 10:30 appointments. After standing there another hour i walked in the doorway and was rudely tossed out by a second big black lady who rudely said get behind the door. I told her i had called up for an appointment and they was told no appointment was needed for a duplicate registration but they didnt care. They both were actually taking people out of there cars before me. and made like i wasnt even there. What kind of people do you have working there? They should hire professionals with manners and put someone more personable who knows how to treat people especially at the front door. TERRIBLE. Finally i gave up and left after waiting there for 2 hours. Waste of time on my only day off. Now i must apply online and wait 2 weeks to get my registration. RUDE OBNOXIOUS GREETERS. I could not have had a better experience at Fort Mill DMV. The staff was friendly and fast, my two favorite things. I was greeted at the door by a nice lady that help me confirm I had the proper documentation for my needs. She printed my ticket and my # was called before I stepped away from the counter. Station #4 lady was just as nice and helpful. It only took minutes for her to flip through my paperwork and confirm all necessary items. She made her copies, collected the fee and had me waiting for my picture to be made in less than 7 minutes. The photo process was the easy and fastest. In and out of the DMV in under 15 minutes seems like a record! It may have been the day of the week, a Tuesday, or the time of day, 8:46am, either way I'm a happy customer.
