I walked in at 3p, there were 9 people in front of me. I left at 340p, so 40 minutes in line, it was torture. All the talk about privatizing. Please someone make it happen. There is no regard, not one iota of concern for the wait time of customers. There was one person working, only one, there was a line out the door by the time I left. Why not at least have someone go thru the line and answer basic questions. There was one lady who didn't fill out the mail label. Instead of 'from' label part being completed first, she did the 'To' part first. An easy mistake to make. One guy was sending an overnight letter, he could not fill out the form correctly. English was not his primary language. One lady had a problem with her P.O.Box key. All the above would have reduced the wait time. The problem is NO ONE cares. They are a virtual monopoly. The ONLY way, I've found to get in and out quickly is to go early in the morning before the line starts. Unfortunately, that's not always possible.

On the one side, it reads "This building was described as "handsome in every respect" when it opened in 1932. It replaced a 1906 post office and housed a new district court and federal offices. It served as a post office until 1986 and provided offices and headquarters for several U.S. Congressmen, including Thomas S. Gettys 1965-75. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, it was renamed in honor of Gettys in 1997." On the other side, "This six-story structure was Rock Hill's first high-rise office building. Built in 1924-25, it opened in 1926 with Citizens Bank & Trust on the 1st floor. The bank closed in 1927. Rock Hill National Bank opened on the 1st floor in 1941 and remained here until 1976. WRHI Radio, one of S.C.'s earliest stations, signed-on with studios on the 2nd floor in 1944 and broadcast from here until 1977. Civil defense used an observation deck on the roof during World War II. [Erected by the Culture & Heritage Museums of York County and the City of Rick Hill, 2007." Today was my second experience at this store. Back in May, I went here to use their 'shipstix'…read moreservice to send golf clubs to Manchester, NH. It was a good experience, a few bumps but nothing major. Today, I needed to get some art prints enlarged so they would be suitable for framing. I was immediately greeted by a gentleman named Tyrone who introduced himself as the Manager and indicated his colleague Maria as new and was in training. I said that's fine and waited patiently for about 15 minutes while the two people in the store were being assisted. After about 20 minutes a lady with her hair wrapped up in a colored piece of cloth walked in and put her box down on the counter while she talked on the phone. Then she started talking to the Manager. I looked right at her and said 'excuse me, there are others that are waiting in line'. She got mouthy and said something like well you can just leave and go to another store. I said to her 'There are rude people who always think their time is more valuable than everyone else' and I walked out. The Manager came out to my vehicle and apologized and I told him I had to run another errand and I would be back. I returned in about 45 minute and the problem was gone and I proceeded to have Tyrone assist me. He as knowledgable, professional and helpful. He apologized for the rudeness of the customer. I told him, he didn't need to do that but I appreciated him for coming out to my vehicle to speak to me. I told him, I have encountered rude people many times before and most of the time I let it go but my New Years resolution is to 'call out rudeness' Name it as such and indicated it's not acceptable behavior, I don't care who you are or where you come from. Believe me people, if you allow rudeness and unacceptable behavior to continue common courtesy and civility will disappear. Thanks Tyrone, you turned what started out as a bad experience to a five star review.

Van Wyck used to be a brick making area, but now is just an intersection with the post office and a general store that also sells fire arms and ammunition. OK...but to those of us who live in the nearby communities, this post office is a great convenience, as the main post offices are miles away in Ft. Mill and in Rock Hill. Small but functional and a real trip to use it.
