Pretty much everything else looks the same, down to the aisles. This is the cheapest place in town for food with small exceptions (gluten free bread is cheaper at Franz outlet). They don't require a membership, which is nice when you don't go very often. I think a little known fact is that they also do sell a lot of items that are normal size, so not everything is just huge restaurant sized containers. This is probably not the place for produce for a family/individual, though, unless you plan on freezing it. Some items (mandarins, kale salad blend, grape tomatoes, etc.) come in small enough portions, but most are way more than you'd be able to use before it went bad, and not all veggies and fruit survive being frozen. Watch closely for price tags. I've seen many items listed at unit price and other identical tags right next to them for similar items are per pound. If you have the time to make multiple stops for groceries, Smart Foodservice is definitely worth the trip and energy.

I wanted to find a place in the Seattle area that had these in stock since I was worried about time constraints in shipping. I called the Boos company directly, and they told me to try contacting Bargreen Ellingson and Sur la Table for locations in my area that carried their stock. I called Sur la Table, but they did not have the cutting board I was looking for since it was a custom order item. Next, I called Bargreen Ellingson. I was directed to a customer service rep. The rep informed me that they did not have them in stock, but they could place an order for me. They said it would take 7-10 business days to arrive, and shipping would be $35.95 for ground shipping to come to my home, or $34 to arrive at the store. I complained that I could get it through Amazon for free shipping, but Amazon's site said it would take up to 4 weeks to arrive. So, I decided to go with Bargreen Ellingson. After discussing the price with the rep, I was immensely pleased! Their price was about $90 cheaper than Amazon! Sure, I had to pay for the shipping, but it was still much cheaper! Frankly, I was skeptical about the price because it seemed too good to be true. I got that "aroo?" look on my face and quizzed her to verify she was talking about the same cutting board I was talking about. I couldn't believe it. I asked how that could *possibly* be the right price, and she said: "Well, we buy these things in bulk, so we get a pretty good discount." No exaggeration there, sister! Ultimately the rep offered the shipping to my home for the store rate - $34, so I was a very happy camper. About 15-20 minutes after placing my order, I received a call back from the rep. She was very apologetic and said the item was a custom order item, and would take 4 weeks plus shipping time. She wanted to know if it was okay to proceed with the order, and I told her it was fine. It was a little disappointing that I would have to wait that much longer, but it was somewhat to be expected since Amazon had the same disclaimer. Seven days after placing my order, it arrived! 4 week, schmore weeks. Pfft. It was just as promised, and $60 cheaper than any place I could find online! He brought in a large pipe that he left in our restaurant storage for about 5 months but did nothing else. He finally came in and installed it after months of me asking him to do it. He also installed a hood. This was only a small part of the job and nowhere near the $20,000 I have paid him. Since then, I have called, emailed, and texted more times than I can count with no response or a response saying he will be in this week but he never comes. I finally got him to come into the restaurant for a meeting. I brought someone to the meeting with me who knows the laws about contracting. He became so angry that we expected him to have answers and do the work that he got up and walked out and left in his car. This was in April 2019. He has never shown up again to complete the job and delivery the equipment and has not refunded my money even though I asked him to. He also has a key to my business and has never returned it so he has access to my restaurant. He has had my key for 11 months now and will not return despite asking him to. At this point, he has stolen thousands of dollars from me and I will be filing a complaint with the State and with the Attorney General. I will also be filing a report with the police.

My girlfriend and I got the mini lunch bowl and my other girlfriend got the BBQ pork and some Tofu skins files with sweet rice. It has a fancy name, but I can't recall what it is. Lunch was superb. I was so filling. Rice, Vegetables, and BBQ pork. So much food in a tiny bowl. The store was amazing. Not only did they have groceries they also had: Gifts, Beauty Products, Generic Seattle Souvenirs, and so much more. I got the cutest dog lanyard. I belive he is a character, but I didn't recognize him. It came with a case with the dog on the back of the badge and a matching lanyard. The badge holder slides out and the badge slides in and then it locks back into place. I can't wait to try it out with my badge. (Update. It fit perfect and you can still electronically badge in with it in the new badge holder) Inside the store was a 2nd store that sells chocolate called Royce. We got one of the last boxes of their chocolate moo cakes for $32.99. I know mooncake season doesn't start till Friday, September 25, 2026 so we're prepared. I've been searching for chocolate moon cakes forever. I didn't grow up with bean mooncakes so they aren't my favorite. A couple of years ago I was introduced to chocolate mooncakes and I totally fell in love. We got the last one at the place and since then I've made it my quest. (Update. I tried them and they are AMAZING.) I also saw some adorable cards that I couldn't live without, but resisted as I make greeting cards myself. So, cute. If you don't make your own cards you have to buy some of these. I wish I had a larger budget and more room in my suitcase as I would buy so much more. Note they have a bathroom, the code is on the bottom of the receipt. It's not the tidiest bathroom, but it's a bathroom so you really can't complain.
