First off let me be clear. I do not write reviews unless I feel a business is beyond unethical and that's what happened with my experience with US Auto Service and Tires. My check engine light came on and I quickly did a Google search of local mechanics as I wanted to nip this in the bud asap. I found this place and it seemed fine based on the reviews. He did a diagnostic computer scan and a minor fault came up and this is when my instincts kicked in. He told me that this fault was due to two sensors deep within the engine. He told me that he needed to remove the top part of the engine to get to the two sensors that one or both were faulty. He hands me an estimate of $1,395. The entire time he was stalling and overdoing it and I could sense his deceit during the conversation. I knew this guy was trying to take me for a ride. I immediately told him this estimate was unacceptable and I would not commit to the deposit amount. He charged me $164 for the diagnostic check and I ran out of there. I went to another mechanic and he told me the check engine light was due to the gas attendant not fully turning the gas cap!! He reset my check engine light and my check engine light never came back on!! patrons beware this man misleds and is a con artist!!! Don't fall for his lying misleading speech to fool you into thinking your car troubles are worse than they are!! Avoid this business at all costs!!! read more

Best and most trusted mechanic shop in the area in my opinion. I came to this shop with no appointment, very last minute and Danny happily took in my car and did a great job. Danny, the owner, is a very friendly and honest mechanic who takes care of your car like it's a very precious antique, which is a great indicator for his professional standards. I got my brakes changed, an oil change, and tires rotated in less than an hour and the cost came out to be much less than what the dealership offered me. Danny was extremely patient and professional, and I was able to leave as a very satisfied customer. Even after the sale, he was nice enough to answer some questions I had about maintaining the car as well! Highly recommended, trustworthy owner who provides great and quick services. Not a good experience. Wish I could give 0 Stars. It was a simple routine maintenance job and he totally botched it. Not an honest person; lied to me when confronted with his error. He was trying to rip me off, or was incompetent. I couldn't tell which, but was probably both. In any case, I won't be returning because he is not trustworthy and doesn't seem to know what he is doing. Too bad, because I was looking for a regular good mechanic. None of my friends or associates will be using him either. The only redemption was the good laugh that we all got from his ridiculous effort to take advantage and deceive. Went to US Auto Service & Tire on 600 Pompton Ave, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009 on 12/20/2016. Danny, the mechanic, said it would cost $880 or 1k+ at dealership to replace a LF catalytic converter (costing $498.99, while WALKER (the same brand) sells for $228.39 @ https://www.exhaustking.com/toyota-sequoia-4.7-2002/product/catalytic-converters-510/catalytic-converter/wal55443). After aggressive convincing (warning the car could burst into flames if not addressed quickly) I left a $500 deposit. Danny said to be back later (after I picked up my son from school) and be OUT in 1 HR tops (made me wonder why he quoted 1.5 hrs for labor @ 89.99/hr). Got to the shop at 3:30PM but Danny didn't start work on my car till past 5PM (he worked on other vehicles that came AFTER me and left mine idling by for over half-an hour: the flat tire took him 20 minutes; the oil change (I think it was, couldn't tell from the cold and filthy reception area I was at) took more than 30 minutes, not to mention he entertained walk-in customers and friends. At 6PM, he helped yet another customer, this time I was really upset and wanted to tell him but I respected the fact that he was alone. That took 20 to 30 minutes. Then, a father & son came, Danny again helped them and later told me he got to go to a friend to borrow tools; he was gone for about 30 minutes. This time, at 7PM he's still poking his way around my vehicle, looked challenged, and hadn't accomplished much. Frustrated, I decided to walk home in the bitter cold without saying a word. At 8:45PM, he started the car to show the problem was fixed. The ENGINE LIGHT was STILL ON, asked him about it and he gave a lecture about sensors. Decided to leave it alone as he was adamant not to do anything about it. Then he gave me the bill with extra half an hour of labor added w/c I refused to pay. Heated exchange ensued. I told him how patient and inconvenient I was for his incompetence and he gave me a rant about staying late. He was rude and selfish, he didn't even apologize for the whole day I wasted waiting for his inability to do his job well. read more
