Raspberry Vanilla Three-Tiered Cake
April B.

If this is your first time hearing of Urban Sweets, here's a quick rundown: The shop was originally a mobile cart (founded August of 2021) featuring a rotation of ice creams, but there is now a storefront located in South End. Aside from ice cream, the shop also carries an assortment of pastries, decorative cookies, macarons, shakes, etc. Aside from the yummy treats, the highlight if the shop is the sweet nature of the owner, Kristen. She provides excellent customer service and is ready and willing to answer any questions. There is minimal dining space, but the shop's location is perfect, so you'll want to stroll and eat if it's a sunny day. Carmel Road Caramel Ice Cream with Biscoff Cookies (small cup - $4/ regular cup - $7)- caramel ice cream with caramel filled chocolate cups - A MASTERPIECE. This ice cream isn't highly recommended, it's MANDATORY. Raspberry Vanilla Three-Tiered Cake ($7) - Overall, the cake is moist and sweet, but the highlight of the cake or as I like to say, the Oscar award winner is the raspberry flavor. It is what's going to make you say, "OMG! YASS!" - MUST TRY. PEPPERMINT - Peppermint ice cream infused with peppermint candies and bursting with candy cane flavor. - This flavor is not HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, it's MANDATORY. PUMPKIN - Spiced pumpkin ice cream flavored with pumpkin puree. - If you really want to get in the fall spirit, pair it with Gingerbread cookies. I promise you, IT BANGS! (Note: Cookie flavors rotate and are based on availability) DILWORTH DELIGHT - this is your traditional Cookies and Cream flavor. Vanilla ice cream loaded with Oreo cookies, making it one scrumptious treat. UPTOWN CHOCO BROWN - If you love fudge brownies, this is the flavor I highly recommend for you. I actually nicknamed this flavor "Godiva Chocolate," as a way to say it is TOP TIER. This ice cream is made with three different kinds of cocoa, which explains why it's so rich. CONSTRUCTION CRUNCH - Smooth-tasting Espresso ice cream that gets it's crunch from the toffee and pecan bits. STRAWBERRY - A classic flavor filled with real strawberries you can taste. PASSION FRUIT - Sweet fruity goodness you will want to eat again and again. MANGO CARROT - A MASTERPIECE of PERFECTION. There's not any other way to describe it.

I'd like to start by saying the owner is a lovely host, she takes the time to tell you about each flavor and what she has available. While I was waiting I missed a menu, so I could ask her specifically what I'd like to know more about and I feel like that could help her save her breath a little .. right behind the counter there is this huge wall that would fit a beautifully designed menu, that would definitely elevate the store and whole experience... if años suggest some sound and arts around related to her business and vibe. Now to the main character in here which is her urban sweets! Unfortunately I didn't get to try the baked goods because she has sold out, however I was delighted to taste her ice creams and sorbets and vegan ice creams and I must say I loved the passion fruit and the other vegan one of carrot and mango it's a MuST try. If supporting local business and if you are someone with many dietary restrictions this is a sweet haven you'll feel embraced and will certainly have something delicious for you.

Some of the best ice cream I've had in Charlotte! It's a little off the regular south end walk, but worth it to head over here for a little indulgence, especially as the days get longer and hotter! All the ice cream flavors are Charlotte themed, from Plaza Midwood Peanut butter to Meyers Park Mint etc, and the taste, texture and sweet cold creamy goodness definitely pass the taste test! I tried several flavors and settled on the mint, but if you get 2 scoops,I'd it with the triple chocolate as well, both fantastic flavors!

Urban Sweets has some of the best ice cream in the city. A cute little shop located in the busy South End area so parking can be difficult but if you are out and about already this is the perfect treat. They also have pastries and small cakes. The ice cream is my favorite though, they have so many different variety and flavors. I cannot even tell you what my favorite flavor it is. On Thursdays it is $5 milkshakes as well and you cannot beat that. Kristen the Owner is the absolute best! She has the most bubbly personality and loves serving ice cream herself. She is worth it alone to stop by Urban Sweets. You can also catch their cart at many events throughout the city especially in the summer time. They also do large events such as well.

Just came by to support this black owned business! This business has ice cream, sweet treats, and so much more. Urban Sweets dessert shop recently opened in November 2022 by Kristen Stewart a black-women entrepreneur. She is currently working alone in the shop but is looking to employ more help once business expands. I had the opportunity to sample the creamy frozen ice cream. Each flavor is named after something related to Charlotte. You have to try the Dilworth Delight! Here are a few other flavors to try: Passion fruit - non dairy Carrot Mango - non dairy Severville Strawberry - gluten free Uptown Chico Brown - gluten free She also offers milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, sundaes, cupcakes, and popsicles. She makes heart shaped dark chocolate, hand painted custom made candies and chocolates for Valentines Day. Everything I tried was simply amazing. Also try the red velvet cakescile it was so moist and not too sweet. If you're in South End Charlotte and plan to visit. This is a great place to checkout! Please support black-owned if you can.

Visiting Urban Sweets is a treat all in its own. The owner, Kristen, is absolutely lovely, and chatting with her is like spending time with a friend you've known for years. That is so rare to come by! The ice cream is absolutely delicious, very creamy, and flavorful. The shop is cool, chic, and inviting. Check out the swag for sale because there are a variety of super cute items. I love the way the color gold is laced throughout the decor and branding. It was a great experience. As we left, our kids said they had "such a great time." We are fans!

The owner Kristen is the sweetest person ! The ice cream shop is located on a busy street , but you can sneak and park at the bojangles . There is a variety of flavors from mango carrot to dairy free options . Kristen even had delicious cakes and macaroons. My favorite flavor of ice cream was passion fruit . Kristen also offers catering and can host events at her shop . I love that it's a black owned women owned business! Go and support

We got to try Ice cream, petite cakes, and cakiesickles. Everything was sooooo good. My favorite ice cream flavor was praline. My favorite cake was the Chocolate Cake! It was so moist and I enjoyed everything I tried. They just opened in November so things have been slow, but I'm hopeful as the weather warms up more people will come out to support this amazing small business. They offer over 25 rotating flavors including Vegan and Gluten Free options.

This is definitely a hidden gem everyone should know about. They have various ice cream flavors, macaroons and other sweet treats. If you live a cute novelty gift you'll definitely find it here as well. They offer two vegan ice creams, passion fruit and carrot mango, which is what I chose. They have cones and cups. They even offer options where they bring the ice cream to you! I'll definitely be back to try a different flavor next time.

discovered Renaissance Patisserie through the Charlotte in Bloom event a few weeks ago and finally…read moremade my way in to experience it for myself. They had offered samples of their lemon tart at the event, which stayed on my mind--so I came back and ordered the Lorraine-style quiche. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced by a fresh side salad. I paired it with a café au lait, which was equally well done. The ambiance is effortlessly chic--very much reminiscent of a European café--and it was lively during lunch. It's the kind of place where you can sit, linger, and people-watch... and SouthPark definitely showed up in style. At one point, several guests seated near us were speaking French, which added to the authenticity and overall experience. Service was warm and efficient, even with the crowd. The bakery itself is on the smaller side--you order inside and then head outside to sit and eat. I went on a Sunday, so it was very busy with a long line, but it moved quickly. When seating fills up, the neighboring restaurant allows use of their patio, which is a thoughtful touch. My friend enjoyed her quiche as well, and we both agreed it's a spot worth returning to--whether for a casual lunch, coffee, or a pastry break. I also order a few macarons to go and my family enjoyed them.

Review for Renaissance Patisserie…read more After relocating to Charlotte from San Francisco, one of the first things I searched for was a proper kouign-amann (pronounced queen-ah-mahn). It's a staple where I'm from, and when I discovered that Renaissance Patisserie carried it, I made the drive immediately. I'm happy to say--this place is the real deal. The kouign-amann here reminded me of the ones back in San Francisco. It wasn't quite as buttery or rich as some of the West Coast versions, but it was absolutely enjoyable--and most importantly, I finished every bite. That alone says a lot. Location & setting: Renaissance is tucked into the upscale specialty shops of SouthPark, in a lovely, polished shopping center surrounded by quality retailers like Williams Sonoma and several restaurants. Parking is plentiful and convenient, and once you step out of your car, you're welcomed into a charming outdoor courtyard that feels relaxed and refined. You'll immediately notice the bright yellow awning--it's cheerful and inviting--and inside, the bakery is just as charming. The black-and-white tile floors, small bistro tables, and beautifully arranged pastry case create a classic European feel. It's not a huge space--maybe six or seven tables--but it feels cozy, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. What makes it special: * A stunning pastry case filled with beautifully crafted desserts and laminated pastries * Skilled bakers and decorators--you can tell there's real craftsmanship behind the products * Friendly, efficient service * Apple Pay accepted (always appreciated) * Self-service water and condiments station * Clean, comfortable environment * A lovely outdoor patio that's perfect when the weather cooperates I do wish they occasionally experimented with more creative variations of the kouign-amann--perhaps seasonal fruit or specialty flavors--but even in its classic form, it's consistently a hit. I've brought these pastries to friends and gatherings, and they're always well received. What I appreciate most is that Renaissance delivers on quality and consistency. It may be a newer trend here in Charlotte, but these pastries have been a long-standing favorite in cities like San Francisco, and it's wonderful to see that level of craftsmanship available locally. Bottom line: Beautiful pastries, fair prices, great service, and a polished, welcoming atmosphere. This has become my go-to bakery in Charlotte, and if you appreciate well-made French pastries, you will not be disappointed.

The inside was immaculate and beckoning, with a two-sided display of the offerings and a shining espresso machine behind the register. The workers bore welcoming smiles and a a polite, inviting nature. All of that is the reason I give this patisserie three stars instead of two. While some foods are still a mystery to me - barbecue I can just take or leave, mostly leave - I know coffee and I know baked goods. The croissant I sampled was dry, implying unkindly that the flaky pastry dough was either formerly frozen or not fresh, and while croissants aren't exactly the moistest pastry to be found, the idea behind making them is kneading and rolling in a lot of butter, which I truly could not taste. What a disappointment. And somehow, somehow, my latte, albeit freshly prepared before me, was lukewarm when I took my first sip on the way to the car. How is that even possible? At the last minute, I asked for caramel to be added to my drink, but that was imperceptible too. I'd forgotten to ask for it to be half sweet, so I guess that was a blessing in disguise. When you stop by a bakery late in the day you sort of pays your money and takes your chances, but I visited just before noon. No crowds either. Disappointing all around, though again, the ambiance invites lingering. Cute bistro, lovely people, but - and I cannot believe I'm saying this - I'd have done better at the nearby Starbucks if all I wanted to do was get a latte and pastry. As the French would say, domage.

I needed a Cafe that was close to hotel and Convention Center. Amelie's was between the two spots so it worked out perfectly! They have the best hours to grab a matcha before the conference and a lattes afterwards. Pastries are delicious and so are the egg sandwiches. The best part is the fun artsy decor! Every space is thoughtful planned out. Service was really good. The customers were friendly and stopped to talk. My kind of place. I later found out that many of the other foodies have been here and it's one of their favorite places to!

Review for Amélie's French Bakery & Café…read more As a transplant from the West Coast--specifically San Francisco, where high-quality bakeries and true French pâtisseries are plentiful--I was genuinely excited to try Amélie's after moving to Charlotte. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing, and after giving it more than one chance, it's simply not a place I plan to return to. The concept feels more like a themed destination than a serious bakery. The interior is whimsical and eye-catching, with decorative elements like a faux Eiffel Tower, which clearly appeals to visitors looking for a fun atmosphere. However, if you've spent time in authentic French cafés or bistros, you know the real charm is understated elegance--wood, mirrors, tile, and craftsmanship. This felt more theatrical than authentic. Where it fell short for me was the food. For a place calling itself a French bakery and pâtisserie, the absence of classic laminated pastries was surprising. I was expecting staples like Napoleons, kouign-amann, or beautifully executed croissants. What I found instead were pastries that looked average and lacked the refinement and technique you'd expect from a true pâtisserie. On my visits, I tried: * A leek soup that was supposed to be cream-based but tasted thin and under-seasoned--more like warm vegetable water than a properly developed soup. * A baguette sandwich with fig, Brie, and apple that sounded promising but was poorly executed. The bread was overly hard, and the balance of ingredients felt off, making the sandwich less enjoyable than expected. I gave Amélie's two chances, hoping the second visit would change my impression. It didn't. To be fair, the café clearly has a loyal following and works well as a social or casual gathering spot. But if you're specifically looking for high-quality French pastries or refined bakery craftsmanship, there are stronger options in the Charlotte area. Personally, I'd recommend: * Renaissance Patisserie for more traditional European-style pastries * Paris Baguette at Rea Farms for consistency and better execution * Or trusted local favorites closer to home Bottom line: Fun atmosphere, but the food didn't meet expectations for a French bakery. After multiple visits, it's a pass for me.

I have worked in the food industry myself, and I would have been fired on the spot for treating a customer with such insolence. What made it worse was that this employee showed impertinence to the highest degree in front of children. This wasn't a trivial request for myself -- it was for a child's birthday cake. Yet no consideration or empathy was shown at all. I will not be returning unless this employee receives the training they clearly lack. Some type of disrespect must be happening inside management for them to allow this kind of behavior from such a classless person. If these actions are allowed to continue, this store cannot progress with employees like this. I hope this issue is resolved.
