Urban Sanctuary is a local gem, and I was happy to support this local, Black woman owned small business. It says a lot about the business that it "walks the walk" so to speak--they not only talk about inclusivity and accessibility in a messaging/signaling way but, more impressively, make inclusivity and accessibility a reality with its pricing structure. Not many business owners are willing to reflect their values where it really impacts their business--through their revenue/pocketbook. This studio is aesthetically beautiful. I love the exposed brick and the plants. While not a hot yoga studio, it's a studio that will make you feel relaxed. We went around and shared our names, and that made it feel like a little community. I haven't experienced that in a yoga studio in Denver. Mats are available to borrow, free of charge. I love that. Beautiful space to practice yoga. You are welcomed and checked in by a wonderful yoga instructor , offered tea. (At least in the night class I attended) There was possibility to borrow mat and blocks as needed. Matthieu was made to teach, his theme and intentions landed very well and I enjoyed every bit of class. Would recommend - very inclusive and beautiful space. read more

No name has ever been more fitting of a space than Urban Sanctuary. The space is so warm with wooden floors, exposed bricks, foliage, a little bit of sun and incense burning. I found the studio through Class Pass and have loved coming back. One of my favorite classes is a really unique one on Sundays, the EFT Tapping and Flow. Not many folks know about tapping so its an amazing opportunity to dive into another method of healing and mindfulness and then there is yoga to calm the body. LITERALLY THE BEST COMBO. They have tons of other classes too like aerial, nude, candlelight and focus on welcoming people of color and other groups to the space. While I did take one class where I felt the instructor was actually not terribly well trained or like, knowledgeable in yoga and the postures or their names, it was a one time thing and my ten years of yoga practice (and brief stint of teaching) meant I was able to keep my body safe. read more

I went to Urban Sanctuary for the first time yesterday. The studio is beautiful. I immediately felt welcomed when I arrived. The teacher introduced herself. When she learned it was my first time at the studio, she gave me a tour, explained where I could put my things, and invited me to make myself a cup of tea. I attended class in the evening and loved how cozy the space felt. I registered for the Skins Naked Yoga Class, which is only for women. The teacher guided us through the poses. It started out with a slow flow and gradually got more challenging as the class went along. However, the teacher offered medications and going into child's pose to rest was always an option. This is a nude class, but it's not required to take anything off if you're not comfortable. At the end of the class, the teacher offered some words of wisdom and even sung, which was really nice because she had a beautiful voice. All in all, I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back. read more

We stumbled across this amazing studio that was just steps away from our airbnb in River North. We took three classes in two days. Each class was heart opening, and just what was needed in the moment. The teachers are phenomenal. The studio caters to all levels and body types. The props are amazing and I walked away from each class feeling lighter and more at ease. I highly recommend. As a teacher myself, I like the spiritual vibe offered. Best yoga studio EVER!! And I've been to all sorts of unique studios all around the country & world. Urban Sanctuary is really a special lil slice of heaven. The space has been beautifully curated to create a super warm, welcoming vibe-- with tons of plants, meaningful details & a happy embrace of the old building's original character & imperfections. A wide variety of classes & workshops for all walks of life makes US super inclusive and unpretentious. It's a safe space to practice, ground down, heal & learn. And the courtyard classes are an awesome summertime bonus that I've been loving! All of the teachers are wonderful in their own special ways, and the owner, Ali, is an exceptionally magical human. Definitely do yourself a favor & start practicing at Urban Sanctuary! It's just what your soul needs right now, and always. Unfortunately I have a billing issue with them they are now ignoring, so until that changes, my review will remain a 1. I got a gift certificate from a family member because I'm struggling with my cancer recovery and couldn't afford this on my own. I canceled my last class which was scheduled at 7am that day. Their policy is that the class has to canceled within 5 hours or you'll still be charged. I canceled 7 hours in advance. They refunded my gift card balance and then later charged my bank account for the class! I emailed them and even got a text confirming the cancelation and the time that was sent. In the beginning Shante was responding within 15 minutes to my emails. Told me I was charged because of the cancelation. After advising Shante that they were wrong in this, she has since refused to email me back. I have followed up twice over the past few days with no response, of course. Not cool of this business to essentially steal money from a cancer patient and mother of 3 who can't even afford these classes and was taking them as a gift from someone. So much for "Love and Unity" Shante. I'll update if they remedy the situation. read more

The classes were amazing but the customer service was poor. The studio implemented a policy for missed or canceled classes and did not provide me with the policy. I emailed several times requesting information with no response. After my 5th class at the studio, I learned there is a check-in procedure. They keep charging my credit card and won't provide me an invoice for missed /canceled classes or the policy. When I spoke to the owner she was dismissive. I'm still waiting for my concern to be addressed but crickets... read more

I have been going to this yoga studio for about 6months now and I really like it. I don't feel like I'm the only person who isn't a yoga pro and the environment is very friendly and welcoming. All the teachers I've had have been very good and I've enjoyed their classes. I've tried different classes and even take a body weight workout class here. The membership prices are also very reasonable. Really glad to have them in the neighborhood. read more

I can't recommend this place highly enough. I started my membership after COVID closed everything down and have made it to several virtual classes. The teachers are wonderful. I just finished Tap Tap Flow with Ali and I. Feel. So. Good. I think my dog could sense the energy so he joined me for the last half of class. You should definitely check it out! read more

Truly special place! Located in the historically black section of Denver- Five Points this gem provides a wellness oasis open for all but also a safe place for POC & Queer folks alike. It is women owned & black owned & offers a variety of classes (from naked to cannabis induced yoga) as well has lots of space for other aligning activities like massages & energy healing. They have a large backyard space which we smoked in prior to the yoga class. Super relaxing with hot chai tea in hand. After settling in to our high we started the class with Jalisa who was very welcoming, & checked in with us often to ensure comfort throughout the poses. This class was at sunset so the mood of the studio became wrapped in a low warm glow. Mats are available for use as well as blankets, blocks, pillows & other props. I left the class feeling stretched out & centered! Definitely will return when back in Denver. read more

Hesitant to leave a review because of how special this place is. From the minute I walked into this warm inviting space, I was hooked. I was looking for a sense of community, especially working remotely and Urban Sanctuary delivered. Teachers are incredibly welcoming and warm. The space is full of character, plants, mood lights, good smells, and no studio mirrors (just how I prefer my yoga).
