Living in Denver, there are no shortages of yoga studios and teacher training programs. It's really hard to find the program that's right for you given the many options out there. I chose Axis because it seemed different from the rest of the teacher training programs out there. I wanted a program that emphasized more than just asana. I 100% recommend the Axis program. Of course we learned about the physical elements of yoga, but it went so far beyond that. Pretty much every class involved a Sadhana practice which included chanting, pranayama, meditation and asana. It took my own practice to another level and I left the program feeling very prepared to share this beautiful lifestyle to all. I'm very happy with my experience at Axis! After my previous bad "first impression" of Axis Yoga last winter, I have returned to Colorado, and this time their schedule(Sept-December 2011) worked with mine. I was able to take some public classes from teachers like Santosh and Kevin Durkin who taught in Breckenridge while I was up there last Winter. The depth and awareness that they both bring to their classes was fantastic, and Kevin's Iyengar alignment tips have transformed my practice and understanding of Yoga Asana. In the Yoga Teacher Training, Santosh was always very interested in how we were doing during the program, and was more than willing to answer any questions we had. His part teaching Asana and Meditation sequences for the different Ayurvedic Doshas(Constitutions) was very insightful as well. The Axis program overall gives a lot of opportunities for students to create their individual teaching style, instead of teaching a set sequence of postures. You are given opportunities to teach in smaller groups throughout the program, and at the end you give a practicum where you teach 30 minutes of a two hour class to the public, all of the other students, and family and friends that you invite. Last winter when I wrote my last post I was very disappointed with the administrative aspects of Axis Yoga. It still leaves something to be desired, and I was a little afraid when I registered for this Fall YTT that the schedule would be changed again, or that the teachers might be late to classes. Overall everything has been on time, professional, with better communication than I had predicted. Derik and his wife Brenna are busy with their children, other careers which translated into delays in conversation and connection when first registering. Now that I'm in the program and going to classes, the quality of education is superb. So Keep in mind that my last review was purely for the administrative aspects of that Winter program and schedule change. Otherwise the content of the program has been fantastic and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to go beyond exercise yoga and learn the more traditional aspects of Yoga. read more

While searching for yoga teacher trainings I stumbled upon Denver Yoga Underground online and I have to admit that I felt pretty intimidated. Their website was very informative and concise about what the program was (and wasn't) and I could sense the deep respect they had for yoga beyond asana and knew that they required a lot of serious dedication from their students. At first this made me a bit nervous and made me reconsider whether teacher training was even a path that I wanted to pursue, I didn't quite feel like I could overcome the challenge and commitment at the time. After some soul searching and some things that started popping up in my life, I couldn't deny that this was a part of my path that I was meant to embrace and walk upon. After talking with Derik on the phone and attending one of his classes I knew that this was the right school for me; not only did he share many of my viewpoints on yoga and the world at large I could tell that he had a wealth of knowledge and experience. I am so glad that I signed up for and completed the 200 hour course! This has impacted me in ways that will continue to resonate for the rest of my life! Not only has it taught me a lot of the deeper aspects of yoga and asana, the process as a whole has given me great strength and confidence in all aspects of my life and personal relationships. I feel more connected to my true self and have a better understanding of my place in the universe. I am forever grateful for what I have learned from my time with Denver Yoga Underground! Axis Yoga Teacher Trainings is a truly amazing experience. Whether you are contemplating YTT to deepen your own practice, or to teach yoga, the program is a life changer. I completed my 200 hour teacher training with Axis Yoga and can confidently and enthusiastically say I made the right decision choosing them. I researched and discussed programs with studios all over the Denver metro area for a few years, and after much thought and consideration, I decided Axis Yoga felt most in line with what I was personally looking for in a teacher training program. I had zero interest in doing a corporate "power" yoga teacher training and wanted something more along the lines of a classical yoga training which embraces the broad spectrum of yoga teachings--not a program that just focuses the physical asana practice, while teaching the other stuff as an afterthought.
