Sales associates accused me of shoplifting when I tried on a cardigan. What the absolute fuck.

I often bemoan the lack of gift shops for quality items in Los Angeles. This shop has everything I…read morewould want when searching for the perfect present: Malibu-branded wares, of course, as well as items with the likeness of other L.A. landmarks and institutions. They have upscale varieties of expected souvenir shop items - candles, magnets, postcards, stickers, apparel - as well as sage, body care products, sports equipment (tennis and surfing), and children's gifts (clothes, body products, books). There are dishes, blankets, and gourmet foodstuffs like local wine, jams, and mustards, as well as a caviar fridge with tins of good caviar, lovely pearl spoons, and recipe books. While the prices are high, so is the quality of the merchandise. This is the spot to find a special gift for a loved one, either an out-of-towner or a local - or yourself.

I always find something I love while here but never purchased anything (except something cold to drink) Everything is super expensive. Like a plain "Malibu" shirt is $40 and up, the sweaters are over $140 ... I saw a cute plate for dessert and it was priced at $104 each piece. I know they are imported from France or someplace like that but still. I wonder if they ever sell one. They have candles that smell amazing, cute beach wear, wooden toys, lots of souvenirs. Check it out next time you are at the pier.

We were relocating to a new house in a new climate which had a completely different aesthetic. Much of our existing furniture did not translate so I put together a mood board and selected a few pieces and let Kir & Joji do their magic. After arriving, we quickly realized there were some additional pieces we required so I sent photos, dimensions and diagrams to help convey the space and need requirements. They have been so helpful! They made what could've been a struggle, a fun enjoyable experience and saved me a wild amount of time needing to research options. I am super happy we elected to do the in store consult. It also entitles you to a discount which helps considerably too when furnishing a home. We also did a similar consult with another large brand furniture vendor and did not receive the same quality of service or attention. So we do have something to compare our experience too. And in closing, CB2 is also connected with Crate and Barrel so when we identified products there we liked as well, it was able to be compiled into our same order. Very cool and convenient. If you're looking for help with your interior design, pop up to Malibu and see them! They're worth the trek! As is that great showroom

Not only was Joji very helpful and pleasant to chat with but also ensured we received our couch in a timely manner. Excited to work with Joji again in the future!

If you're visiting Malibu Country Mart, Surfing Cowboys is an absolute must-stop…read more Wayne has created one of the most unique and thoughtfully curated shops in Malibu. The store perfectly captures that classic California vibe--part surf culture, part Western heritage, and part mid-century design. Every corner of the shop has something interesting to discover, from vintage pieces to beautifully made clothing and accessories. What really stands out is the experience. Wayne is incredibly welcoming and clearly passionate about the store and the culture behind it. During my visit he even noticed my Paul Smith T-shirt and shared some of the history he's had working with Sir Paul, which made for a great conversation and added a really personal touch to the visit. You can tell that everything in the shop is there for a reason--it's not just retail, it's a collection of stories and style. In a place like Malibu where many stores feel similar, Surfing Cowboys feels authentic, creative, and genuinely special. It's the kind of shop you want to return to every time you're in town. Highly recommend stopping in and saying hello to Wayne.

OK, you're driving down Topanga Canyon from Malibu. It's a two lane road. And you could easily pass…read moreJalan Jalan Imports. But if you catch a glimpse of the sign at just the right time and make a sharp turn left, ideally missing the demonic oncoming traffic, you're there. Technically this plot of land is shared by Jalan Jalan Imports and Topanga Rocks. Topanga Rocks, I could take or leave. Jalan Jalan on the other hand... So, what is this place? Good question. What you are about to see on this lot are an enormous number of Balinese statues. Mostly Ganesha and Siddhartha Buddha, but also some apsaras (celestial nymphs) and a few other members of the Hindu and Buddhist pantheons. Many of the statues are very beautiful. But with few exceptions they are carved from stone and are 1) very big, 2) very expensive. The only people who would normally buy these are either New Age types that want a statue at the end of their heated pool (these statues are clearly designed to be outside) or perhaps a very devout Buddhist or Hindu who saved a month's salary to have a giant murti (form of a god) for inside their home So, why are we here? Well, you might want to spend 10 or 15 minutes looking at the statues (they are very pretty), but soon your eyes will wander. And then you'll see it: Owl Falls. Owl Falls is an incredibly picturesque waterfall. It is not a heavy stream, but it is continuous and beautiful. You can wade into the water. You can sit on the rocks. Or you can just watch it and contemplate existence for fifteen minutes. It's an incredibly peaceful and lovely place. You may want to explore a little more before you leave. If you go up the stairs toward the...geodesic dome/hut...thing, you will find a Balinese Hindu Shrine. Every time I've visited, it is covered with cash, coins from all over the world, pieces of jewelry and little pieces of paper (prayer requests, I assume). It is pretty damn cool. So, in conclusion: are the statues for sale cool? Yes. But is going to Jalan Jalan Imports merely an excuse for visiting the gorgeous waterfall and exploring the traditions of other cultures? Absolutely.
