I had such high hopes when I made a reservation because a few people recommended the salon to me. I made an appt with Jennifer after hearing she knew how to handle my particular hair type. All I needed was a simple cut and root touch up. Cut was good, but to root touch up was definitely not. I got home and looked closer in the mirror and noticed my forehead, ears, eyebrows, and scalp all had color stains! I spent the next 30min trying to remove stains from my skin! I rubbed a Qtip on my scalp and removed excess color. I had a feeling it would be bad because when rinsing my head, she barely touched my scalp. This cost me $160 PLUS tip!! Aside from the stained skin and excess color left on scalp, I still have gray hairs showing. Obviously this salon is an expensive lesson learned for me. A one and done. Next! read more

I hesitated to post an honest update on my experience because I didnt want to sound cruel. I did not share my real thoughts at my last hair appointment as it took everything in me not to cry at the hack job of a cut. I had a few decent cuts here but started to get invasive and prying comments and questions each time I went in. My hair was never quite even and it was blamed on my styling technique. Thats not true because I've styled my curly cuts for years with another stylist from another salon and it was never uneven. I was unable to find a different stylist in the interim so I stuck with her for a few cuts despite my instinct to not go back. My final visit with Tammura was more uncomfortable than usual. Of course, stylists ask you about your life. However, upon hearing news of my recent engagement, I received comments such as "Well, I hope you have plenty of savings." I received other inappropriate and judgmental comments previously and afterwards but you get the idea. I might be able to look past it for a stellar haircut but Tammura was so preoccupied with judging my personal life that she rushed through my cut and butchered my bangs beyond repair. She had previously cut them well and, after asking for the same thing this time around, she cut them to about two inches long. Thats right, my bangs one month before my wedding (which I had made her aware of from the beginning) were cut to look like Lord Farquad. They stuck straight out without the help of a flatiron and hair oil. Overall, I found her increasingly rude and careless and she does not take pride in her work. If you're picky about your cuts, use someone else. read more

I have a lot of hair, and it is long, also tender headed. I have been doing my own color for most of the last five years waiting to find someone who understood the color that I wanted, but also wouldn't leave me in tears. Karen Yates, my colorist, as it turns out is from my neck of the woods in LA. She recommended bleach, something I haven't done in several years due to the damage I experienced. I let her know she was in control, and my hair went to red brassy, yellow to a perfect shade of blonde. My hair looks great, color is perfect. I trust her and will return there again. She even did a touch up cut on my bangs. read more

This review is about the very fierce and fabulous Liz! My stylist of 6 years had run off to 'find a real job', as she put it...which left me full of sorrow and feeling a bit lost. She had been rocking out my hair for such a long time, and the idea of starting over with someone new made me nervous. However, a friend of mine ran into me one night sporting one of the most badass hairstyles I had ever seen on her, and I begged for a referral. She directed me to Liz Layne...and I was instructed that she was a bundle of spitfire Southern charm....not to mention a sorceress of hair magic. I HAD to go check this out. My friend was so right. Liz is funny, sweet, and man did she rock out my shaggy, long neglected 'do. I left with something she called a cross between Retford and Pitt...and I have been in love with her ever since. She also won't break your wallet for the amazing skills at her disposal. I have referred my asian fiance to her, my three best friends, and I regularly send people to experience her awesomeness. She has a lot of experience with many types of hair, and many types of cuts. She seems particularly skilled at giving people something that is edgy yet fashionable or vintage and relevant. An extra note: Liz REALLY shines with how well her cuts grow out. I have been swamped with work and with moving, and haven't been able to see her with my normal frequency lately. Attention all future brides! Urban Image Studio's Emily Webb is a hair queen! I had Emily come to our wedding venue on our sweet wedding day to do my hair (the bride) and my 5 additional bridesmaids! She showed up on time (actually early which is a plus on a day like this) and successfully styled all 6 of the ladies hair. She styled each girls hair different upon request, and did such a fantastic job; ambiguity is her jam yall! Several of my bridesmaids told me post wedding day that Emily's hair styling was the only wedding hair they have ever had styled and hold throughout a whole days wedding festivities. She also threw fresh flowers (provided by us) in our hair, which is harder than it sounds! I would trust Emily with my wedding hair 100x again and again rain or shine no matter what the location or season! One star would be too much for this salon. I wanted a red/brown balayage. However, because I am not a cosmetologist I did tell her that the brown in my roots wasn't natural. So we compromised to just keep the roots the same brown. Instead, she colored my WHOLE head FREAKING BROWN. What's more, I left with my hair STILL WET AND NOT STYLED. Let me start by saying that I live in Nashville and make the 30+ minute drive just to see Melody (who was formerly in Berry Hill)--she's THAT good. Scheduling is always easy, it's inexpensive (she still gives me a slight discount for being an "existing client," even though I saw her only once before she moved locations). Cute studio located in the square downtown, Keurig coffee and fun music, great magazine selection. Melody always listens to what I have to say and every time I leave, I truly like my hair more than the previous time. She's amazing. She's super sweet and there's none of that awkward hairstylist small talk. I love her, and I'll continue making the drive for my hair! read more

I used to be one of those guys who wouldn't pay more than $10 for a haircut until after one of the budget haircut episodes left my hair looking like a bling man with a butcher knife cut it. My wife recommended (as she had 1,000 times) to go see Hillary. She fixed the hack job and I have gone to Hillary ever since. I love how I can walk-in, sit down and get my hair cut without having to explain what I want every time. I'll never go back to the budget clippers again. Because I am very particular, I was very much stressing about who I would find to take care of my personal needs and she fits the bill perfectly! I have fine hair and deal with hair loss, making it difficult to select and maintain a hairstyle. When my hair is cut right it looks great...when it's not, I have difficulty hiding a bad hair cut! With Liz it's not just a haircut, IT'S A WORK OF ART. She takes her time, and she LISTENS. She is trendy, yet she can create a classic hairstyle to suit any desired look. Urban Image was wonderful! As other reviews have stated, it's in a great location right downtown Murfreesboro, with plenty of parking. The inside is very clean and updated, with a cool, modern style. It was also very busy, which is a good sign to me, as that shows they have a large following of loyal customers. My stylist, Samantha, was great! I only went in for a cut, but she still took her time to help me decide what look would work best for me. She worked quickly, but was very personable, and did a great job styling my hair as well! They worry about price more than the quality of your hair in my opinion if u r a blond Do not go to this place maybe it's the product but it's by far the worst turn out I showed her a picture of cool blond and came out w an extremely warm bronze blond now I have been platinum b4 and I know how long it takes to get there how many processes excetra but after she got done it was darker than my hair when I walked in and the lighting was bad the lights above threw off the color the window was letting in maybe it's the atmosphere or the stylist all I know is I'm not paying 190 again for all over blond and one color streaks there again read more

I have been going to Tammura for over five years now. Like Tammura, I have curly hair, so she really understands how to cut and style it. She is also a color expert, and always gives me exactly what I was hoping for, even if my request is vague. I think she has ESP, or at least great intuition. She is always up to date on the latest in hairstyles and fashion, and I know I can trust her to give me candid feedback on my cut/color requests. I asked for a simple haircut "Get the hair off my ears and blend the sides then make the top and front just a little longer." Instead i got a choppy and very very uneven haircut that the barber tried to smooth out with gel. Not a bad tactic to get an easy 20 bucks and making the customer happy until they get home take a shower and wash the gel out. It was probably the worst $20 i have ever spent. I would definitely not suggest going here unless you want to walk around with a haircut that looks like it was done by a 3 year old. read more

This is for the hair stylist Hilary. I actually scheduled my appointment for a different stylist who was recommended by a family member but when I showed up they had Hilary assigned to me. I would have at least liked to know about the switch up front because I would have rescheduled. I have bangs, she cut them super weird. She didn't make an upside down v like all other hair stylists have done, just cut them close to my forehead. This meant I had cut bangs she didn't cut that were a weird length afterwards. And my bangs that she actually cut didn't look cute after. Her blow dry left me frizzy (which is pretty normal for a blow dry) but then zero styling to make my hair look good at all. I left with hair that felt flat, frizzy, and dimensionless. I was hoping to leave feeling good about my hair but honestly it looked better before I came in. And it cost $50. I am used to paying my regular stylist $70 for a great cut and style after. Maybe you have to pay extra for the styling? It was not clear up front. Perhaps there is hair that Hilary excels at doing, but it is not mine. read more

I decided to try one of those temporary color hair dyes for a girls trip. It worked great until 3wks later when it still remained in my hair. It was suppose to wash out after 5 shampoos. The purple was now a dull blue lingering on my tips. Additionally, I decided to lighten up my dirty blonde with an at home color kit. That was the second dumb decision I made on a whim when I couldn't get in with my regular girl. My blonde hair turned this brassy orange color with dull blue tips. Hot, I know. I knew I had to see someone who knew what they were doing to fix my coloring. I read a bunch of reviews & checked out the stylist profiles for numerous salons in the Murfreesboro area. I found Hillary and I liked what I read. It is always intimidating going to someone new and trusting that they know what they are doing. Hillary knows what she is doing!! She did an AMAZING job on my hair. Not only did she fix my coloring mishaps but she brightened it. I never like my hair right after I get it highlighted. It takes about 2 days before I start to like it again. I loved it the moment it was done. I can't stop checking myself out in the mirror. My hair is so pretty. Point of this long story.
