Erin and Joe are the BEST! I recently moved into a new home and although I knew I wanted houseplants, I wasn't sure where to start so I reached out to Urban Gardener to book an in home consultation. Joe and Erin came over to discuss which plants would work best for the space and made the decision process easy when it came to selecting the plants and pots I liked. They also included detailed plant care instructions which was really helpful. I can't say enough about my great experience - highly recommend.

General recommendations:
- Always keep your plants in nursery pots or in pots with good drainage to keep them happiest
- Never leave your plants sitting in water for more than 30 minutes. When the soil is saturated and the roots are left sitting in water the plants are likely to get root rot which is hard to recover from. Yellowing or browning leaves is a sign of watering too frequently or leaving your plant sitting in water.
- Most tropicals love higher levels of humidity. In the winter, use a humidifier to keep plants happy. Your Ficus Lyrata (living room) and Bird of Paradise (bathroom) are the ones that care most. The bathroom will take care of the Bird of Paradise's needs but adding a small humidifier to the living room will help your Ficus thrive. Daily misting is also an option, though it does not provide consistent humidity.
- Your plants should not need to be sized up for at least a year, often longer is ok!
Ficus Lyrata
Water when top 2 inches of soil is dry, usually every 10 days.
Prone to root rot so never let it sit in water.
Loves bright, indirect light and high humidity.
Hates drafty spots or heating vents.

Dracaena x 2
More drought-tolerant. Water when soil is mostly dry every 2 weeks or so.
Loves bright, indirect light. Can tolerate medium light.

Sansevieria (Snake plants) x 2
Very drought-tolerant. Water only once per month.
Tolerates lower and medium light spots.
No misting, likes to be dry!

Bird of Paradise
Water when top 2 inches of soil is dry, usually once per week.
Loves full sun and high humidity.
Can be split into multiple plants when it gets too big for this spot.

Wallygrow (pothos)
- Water through the back when leaves are drooping, usually every 7-10 days is ok. If top of soil is still wet, leave for longer between waterings.
Philodendron Birkin
Loves bright, indirect light
Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry usually 7-10 days.

Your smaller plants all have care instructions stuck on the grow pots so you won't forget.
I added 2 x philodendron/ pothos to the basement window in the kids play area but they can truly be put anywhere in the house with medium-to-bright, indirect light. Water when leaves start to droop a bit, every 7-10 days or so. Move them to the main floor or kids rooms if you don't want plants in the basement!
