It is a great pleasure to review Urban Solar Design. We interviewed 3 other companies before meeting Sean McCreary, Owner of Urban Solar Design. First of all, Sean was the first and only one to actually get on our roof and do proper measurements and assure our roof was in proper shape to accept solar panels. He spent an inordinate amount of time explaining the process of solar energy production, what we could expect, how it would affect our monthly/yearly bills, his background and experience as well as his crews, how they operate and how long the installation process would take, including getting permits (which they do for you), and how the warranties work. By the time he left, we had a clear path to make our decision. There was no question, that Sean truly knows what he is doing and his 25 years of experience spoke volumes. I must add, there was no pressure to sign contracts from him as well. We then started working with his assistant, Max Duran, who helped us through the contract process, scheduling and was there for us throughout the entire process and installation. Max is one incredibly efficient guy who is on top of everything. Since we are new to solar, we had a multitude of questions, all of which Max graciously answered each and every time. When the day came to install our system, we had the pleasure of meeting the crew. Chad was the lead of the crew and could not have been more gracious with all of our questions. Always a smile on his face and nothing we asked was too much. In fact the entire crew was incredible. They were neat, clean with perfect manners and their work was totally professional. It truly was a pleasure to have them working on our house. Once the work was done and we received our approval to operate from PG&E, Dave came by immediately to do the finishing touches to connect to our internet and Max was here with our owners manual and a training session to explain how to monitor our system. Additional support was also given graciously by Natalie in the office, who kept us informed and updated on Town approvals, timelines of work, PGE inspections and more questions we may have had. She is a fantastic team member. Needless to say, from start to finish, our experience with Urban Solar Design was incredibly professional and seamless. Everything was explained upfront , there was never any pressure to sign before we were ready, everything went as planned and there were no surprises. Urban Design Solar was recommended to us by a friend who works for a local electrician. He and his boss (who has done some solar himself) had been on some jobs where UDS was also working. They came back saying this is the company to use. We were not disappointed. We chose a 5.5 KW ground mount system because our roof line and trees made a roof system less than ideal, and we had some unused south-facing space. The whole project took about a week following permit approval. The crews arrived on time, were very personable, knowledgeable and efficient. When a glitch arose with the concrete company scheduling, they came in at 4:30-5:00 AM (in the dark) to pour the footings, so the project would not be held up. (They put excess concrete in shovel sized piles to remove the next day.) We were very impressed when the lead installer listened to the idea of a technician when deciding how and where to place electrical conduit in the garage. When the bosses encourage staff to think critically and share their ideas, everybody wins. It is clear that Sean insures his employees are properly trained and supervised. During the final inspection the inspector commented " You guys do tight work." Needless to say the project was approved right away. Sean designed the array to be high enough off the ground so that the space underneath is usable and out of the shade of a hedge. We have had the system for a little over a month and are extremely pleased with its performance. Based on our experience, we would recommend Urban Design Solar without reservation. read more

My hubby and I wanted our solar up quickly and the contractor I had been working with was not being responsive. I did a random internet search, looked up Chico solar contractors with decent reviews, and called a few. Urban Design was by far the easiest to reach and most professional. They gave me a thorough quote, quickly, and matched my contractor's price (which was lower than others as well). They provided a lot of options when it came to solar panels and inverters, but were happy to make recommendations and help me understand the choices. I signed contracts on Monday, May 2nd, and I had a system up and running with PG&E on May 13th... I didn't even think that was physically possible. The work was excellent - my husband used to work as an electrician and he was impressed with how quickly and cleanly they ran lines and set up the meter. The workers were friendly and respectful of our schedule and home - my dogs even liked them. The professionalism of the entire office staff was exceptional. After the job was done they gave me a very helpful binder containing product information and warranties, which I really appreciated. Fabulous! We worked with Tony for the duration of our project. We added solar and replaced the A.c/Heating unit, a new electrical panel, and hot water heater. Everyone was fantastic. They were kind and on time. We were checked on consistently throughout the project by Tony and he always answered the phone and had answers to all of my questions with a wonderful attitude. Sometimes you feel like your being a nuisance and he never made me feel that way. I was extremely sick one week and not only did Tony ask me if he could get me anything like soup or meds, but the owner, Sean, came by to do some work and also asked the same thing. Who does that? These guys. Of course I said no, but just asking is more than any company has done in my memory. There were a few hiccups with paperwork (not Urban's fault) and it was dealt with quickly and smoothly by Tony and his team and it did not turn in to my problem to deal with. I can't say enough about this team, their employees and those in charge. I would chose this team ten times over. Their professionalism is beyond! Full disclosure! Urban Design Solar is my employer, who else would I use? The great recommendation is that I didn't get special treatment, I got the same great service that all clients get. My 65 year old house needed a re-roof before an El Nino winter. Check, got that. I wanted solar to control costs, and to be in on the Federal 30% rebate. Check, check, got both. I wanted in on what I daily, tell my customers is the most important feature of going solar, the Net Metering Agreement with PG&E. Check, got that. I have a 21 year + deal with PG&E that they can't change the rules and reach in my wallet every month. This gives PG&E a sad. It gives my wife and myself a happy. Our solar experience was horrible until we got referred to Urban Design. We were over-promised by several companies that eventually could not deliver. Urban Design was able to come up with a sensible solution to our property's very unique challange. Clear, realistic expectations were conveyed to us and then they over delivered on their promises. Our ground mount was built in the wettest part of winter with no damage to our grounds. The workers were respectful, professional, and informative. The owner himself was even accessible throughout the entire process and the job finished under the already extremely competative quote. Glad we ended up with these guys as we now have a fantastic solar array on our property. Just a few months after completion, one of the panels was destroyed by a flying rock. I called for a quote to replace the panel. The owner sent one of his guys out and they replaced it free of charge despite having nothing to do with the damage. Amazing customer support. read more

When I decided to look into putting solar on my house, I first contacted several solar companies in the area to see who could offer the best deal. Sean from Urban Design Solar was the first to show up and had a design and bid for me within 24 hours. He answered all my questions and didn't pressure me to to go with his system. All the other solar companies took weeks to get back to me and were way more expensive. After signing with Sean, his crew was able to start the job right away. Sean dealt with all the permits and worked with me on the design. Sean goes the extra mile to make sure that his customers are treated right. He also referred me to a few different lending institutions that offer great solar loans. Purchasing a solar system is a great investment as it can reduce your energy bill significantly and increase the value of your property. We hired Sean to place solar panels on our roof and asked him to install a home water distiller in our kitchen. His first response was "Yes I can. I will figure it out and get it done." This was after 2 years of plumbers saying "No, it can't be done." Now, 2 weeks later, we are drinking distilled water from our kitchen sink and enjoying the benefits of solar power. Sean and his crew have been polite, respectful or our work schedules, and friendly. Sean came over frequently to check on the job and make sure we were happy and satisfied. He obviously had a great working relationship with his employees as well and it shows. To top it off, his pricing was the best in town. Many solar companies wouldn't even touch our roof since it is clay tile. Urban design is now the only business we will contract for home remodeling. Thank you Sean and crew. We called, researched, and interviewed many different solar companies. We called Urban Design and set up a meeting at our house. The fact that they were more than happy to meet with us there was the first sign that showed they were really comprehensive in their due diligence. Many of the other companies didn't want to spend the time of day to come to our home. Most just wanted to see just our electric bill. Solar Design not only came out to our house they also came well prepared, had done their research, gave us a presentation about our house to keep about what they could do for us and answered all of our questions. Then they walked the property to see how everything was set/hooked up. They took care of everything, were very courteous, friendly, and were wonderful from start to finish. We also know if we have any problems they will be there for us. So happy we went with them!! read more

I have no complaints and all praise for Sean, the owner, and every one who was on the job at my place. The questions were all answered, the installation was very professional, and it was impressive that everyone really cared about the work like it was being done on their own homes. Very comforting. It is such a great product too, in that it is a win for Urban Design to do work for customers and it is a huge win for most customers to get this kind of work done on their homes (solar installation). We've used Urban Design for many projects: Hot tub deck, bathroom remodel, Kitchen hood installation, solar tube installation, as well as small projects. Sean and Ryan and his crew do great work no matter what the size of the project. These guys show up on time, stick to the budget, stick to the timeline to get it done and they clean up meticulously afterward. Quality contractors are tough to find these days, I can't say enough good things about Sean and his company. I have another bathroom remodel planned, and a kitchen one after that. They now have a designer, Nancy, that works with them on projects. This seems to streamline things for busy people. She will be in on our next project which is the bathroom. I have hired Sean 6-7 times over 5 years and his attention to detail and devotion to the end product is excellent. The men who work for Sean are not only talented but great to be around and very polite. I have recommended them to several friends, several have used them to install solar systems and are very happy. Today I am connecting another friend with Sean to install a solar system. The main request of my friend regarding the solar job is that no money will come out of his pocket and his bill will go down. Butch was here to do a complete service on my Generac. Butch is timely, experienced and informed me of his findings and proposed the needed work to keep my generator in tip-top shape and readiness. Furthermore, UDS installed a complete 9Kw solar system in 2019 which has performed well. The reason I selected UDS initially is because the other Sean was the most responsive, reliable and capable. When our electric bill became too much we decided to do something about it. I did lots of research and got lots of quotes. Urban Solar stood out and they were awesome. Urban Design installed solar panels on our roof and our ROOF LEAKED! They were unable to fix the leak so we eventually had to call a roofer. Sean, the owner, smelled like weed at 8am every morning and he spoke about his employees as if they were garbage. It was an absolute NIGHTMARE dealing with this person. I had several bids and Sean was the best price. He used name-brand materials and not Chinese stuff. I had a ground mount system installed and it came out just as planned. My heating system is propane and they raised the propane prices considerably, so I am using electric heaters more and bringing down my propane bill. I couldn't be happier with the system. PS.
