Thanks Volt! I highly recommend this roofing and solar company. Buck and his team are great: very…read moreknowledgable, hard-working, and have amazing attention to detail. On top of that, they're just good down-to-earth people. We hired them last spring to re-roof our home, replace some rotted eaves and fascia and replace our old solar system (it was inefficient and malfunctioned quite a bit). We are very happy with what we got for the price we paid, it was a good value. It looks so much better than it did before and is consistently producing more energy. I feel like they helped us make the right decisions through the whole process, especially for system size to be able to keep our NEM1 status. The new roof looks great and works really well. I waited almost a year to write this review to make sure there wasn't any water intrusion during the winter storms - not a drop anywhere. They were in the mid-high range in pricing on the bids we got, but I'm happy we spent a little more went with them. Can a roof be sexy? Ours sure is. All in all, if you need a new roof or solar system or home battery, or all of the above, call Volt. They are a competent and professional group of local people who are really f**king good at what they do.

After much research, we had the top six companies quote us estimates for solar on our Loomis house…read more I noticed that each company explained the process differently; some explanations were good, while others left me more confused. When Buck arrived, he stayed until we were satisfied with our understanding, and I learned so much more from his explanations than from all other companies. Considering they were also roofers and understood the difficulty with our high-pitched roof, we placed more confidence in them than the others. Hence, we chose them after a month of research and estimates. Kristen, their assistant manager, was very communicative throughout the entire project, keeping us informed about what was happening behind the scenes with permits, PG&E approvals, and the team's schedule. That helped us understand the project's time frames. Bucks crew -- Jared, Sean, and the others -- were friendly and professional. They worked quickly and efficiently to finish the job, paying close attention to detail. They went above and beyond, including sharing additional insights about our gutters and attic. I could tell they understood the bigger picture, and I am grateful for their effort. After researching many companies, we are happy we chose Volt Modern and will definitely recommend them to others looking for solar installation and roofing services.

Chico Solar Works - This is the scratch

    Chico Solar Works

I would have given them a 5 star review if not for two disappointments given at the bottom…read more I went with Chico Solar Works because they could also replace the roof (Chico Roofing Company) and I was willing to pay a premium to have a single company to deal with if anything went wrong. Also, they have been around for quite a while, I knew a few people who had used them for solar and their prices weren't out of the ballpark. Once the installation began it went quickly and smoothly, taking only a couple of days for installation and PG&E approved the installation within a few days. Note that they also had to upgrade our breaker box to 200A and they did a great job of matching the adobe texture and paint color where they had to cut out for the larger box. There were two things that were a bit disappointing. One was that the monitoring app showed incorrect "Consumed" energy information. It was including the produced power so when the sun came up my Consumed power went up at the same time as the produced power from the panels went up. According to Enphase this is a rather common issue and yet it took a couple of weeks to get Chico Solar to recognize there was a problem, which included my talking to Enphase a couple of times. Even after it was agreed there was a problem it took another month to get the issue resolved. It was disappointing that the people who do the installations couldn't recognize there was an issue even when I described it to them. The second issue is that (at least) one of the panels has a scratch a couple of inches long. At least initially this is not going to be an issue but I suppose it could lead to early failure. I have not reported that to Chico Solar. I should also mention that all the installed equipment was as quoted except for the panels. The panels were from a different supplier and had an additional 10W output with nearly the same specs otherwise.

Workers came out and worked on my system three times never talking to me just leaving door hangers saying the came out. 2. They designed a system to meet only 80% of my needs why on earth would I want that ? They shorted the panels I needed and I would've paid for and thought I was paying fir a system that would zero out my PG&E bill . 3. My annual True up has been running $3500.00 4. They owe me 12k the difference between the financed price vs the cash price since 2017 the one year anniversary of the system I got in March 2016 . * Because I thought the two sales guys where very knowledgeable and helpful , friendly. I told them to add $500 for them to split. Thus the financed price was to be 39,000 plus the $500 totaling $39,500 which I paid thinking I would get the cash difference once the Hero program informed them it was paid in full . The county refunded their Hero set up fees around $3000.00

I was very concerned about warranty issues and also about how the installation would affect my S-tile roof. One company misled me about their warranty coverage (I found out by reading the fine print) and another failed to give me a copy of their warranty after three requests. There were a few quirks to my installation that would require some creativity and care, and I was not encouraged by the lack of accurate information or personalized attention I received from these other vendors. I thought perhaps I would not ever have solar on my house. Based mostly on Yelp reviews, I decided to contact United Sun Energy. The first call I received back was from Phillip Egan himself. Subsequently, I found everyone involved to be professional, helpful, and friendly. Shawn is an easy to talk to no-pressure sales / coordinator. He showed me some new hardware that they use for S-tile roof installations that no-one else had mentioned. The office staff is pleasant and efficient. They have experienced solar experts handling design and installation issues. When the unique circumstances of my house and my requirements came into play, my request for a detailed plan was answered with a visit to my house by their project designer and by Mr. Egan. They crafted an excellent solution on the spot. They were patient and cheerfully re-wrote the proposed contract (which is detailed and in plain language) as I changed my mind a few times regarding some of the equipment to be installed. Theirs is the only contract among the vendors that I contacted that specifically warrants against damage to your roof. A quiet and very polite crew came to the house to install the panels. They were extremely careful during the installation, and left my roof and property in better condition than when they arrived. Ryan came next, and installed the electrical system. He is a craftsman and and gentleman and did a superlative job. I cannot say enough about what a great job he did. The system has been in place for about three months, and is working perfectly - exactly as promised. It took a long time to find the right team to install my system, but I am glad I was patient and diligent. The whole process, which I feared would be an ordeal, was extremely easy and pleasant. The cost was exactly as promised in the contract, with no surprises. I wholeheartedly recommend this company if you are considering solar.

United Sun Energy was the last company we contacted and I'm glad we did. Kevin was super easy to work with, he explained everything in detail and was very upfront about the whole process. What made United Sun Energy stand out from all the others was Kevin did not have a predetermined product he was trying to sell us. He came out and looked at our home and talked to us about what we were wanting from our system, then they designed a system to fit those needs. But obviously cost is what everyone wants to know, and United Sun Energy came in under all the other local companies and their system will produce more energy. So less money more energy, seems to good to be true but it isn't (more on that later), on top of that, the warranty that United Sun Energy offers is better than all the competitors with all parts, labor, and even the roof covered, you can't really beat it. The process was extremely pain free from signing the contract to being up and running. I think the whole process took 2-3 weeks. They were good about contacting us and keeping us updated with what was happening. They took care of all the paperwork with permits and PG&E as well as the financing company. Thats another area were Kevin outshined the competitors, he explained the financing options in detail and very clearly. Just be aware that if one place promises you a low interest rate, you are more than likely paying a fee to buy down the rate as financial institutions don't do low interest rate loans for solar projects. Kevin was upfront about these options and showed us the best financing options for us based on our specific goals. We have had our system now for over a month and I'm happy to say that our system is actually out performing what United Sun Energy guaranteed us. I am confident that we will not face a big true up bill at the end of the year and we will be able to keep our house a much more comfortable temperature during the hot summer months. There is no doubt in my mind we made the right choice and if you are considering a solar system for your home, you should definitely get a quote from United Sun Energy, you won't be sorry! Thanks Kevin!
