Place is a money hole. $10 to park in rocks and dirt. $20-$30 for "vip" parking. Security are complete jerks. $40 for terrible hookah, the food is terrible. The waitresses stay on their phones all night. They locked the doors at 1:20am and wanting to charge my friend $30 to get in at 1:30 and they close at 2. Excuse was they want to close down and don't want anyone else coming in. Completely ridiculous and wrong for scamming ppl out of extra money after 1:20. The dj was garbage and and mc screams over all the songs all night trying to dance with every girl. Place is very lame. Much better establishments literally on the same street. Pros: Great service, strong drinks, great DJ, great hookahs Cons: paid to park, did not have anything visible in my car, yet it still got broken into. They have ZERO security watching your vehicles, so the likelyhood of your car getting broken into is very high. The parking attendants where there, yet no one saw or heard anything! Bottom line: Good spot, but I no longer feel safe parking my car here AT ALL. This place needs to have LOTS of security in order for me to come back. I work very hard for my money, and the last thing I need to be worried about is my car being vandalized, ESPECIALLY if I PAY to park. Me and my friend came here on a Thursday night after work and we had an amazing time!! Our waitress Kayla was the best waitress I have had here in Houston. She was attentive, sweet and made sure we were taken care of the entire time. The food was good, the hookah was good and affordable. $25 for hookah is unheard of!! The music was good and the drinks were good and strong. Also drink were affordable. Me and my friend had three drinks a piece, quesadillas and wings and our total came out to around 55-60 before tip. I am amending my review based on my most recent experience at Uptown Hookah on July 18, 2009. I visit Uptown Hookah fairly regularly but on this night I was bringing some people from out of town for their first hookah experience. I figured Uptown would not be crowded, it would be relaxed and a good first experience for my family. We attempted to park the two vehicles in the empty parking lot. After we parked and bgan walking toward the door, a guy approached us about paying $5.00 per vehicle. It's not the money but I refuse to pay to park any place where I am coming to patron their business. I'm coming to spend money at your business and you want to charge me to park!!! WTF That is the biggest pet peeve of mine. And whats funny is that, there is a Sams Boat (over flow parking lot) behind Uptown where they charge $3.00 per vehicle and is only 10 feet away. But there was no way I was going to pay $5.00 per vehicle. I go in to talk to a manager and there is NOONE in there. The place is completely empty other than the manager who is sitting at the bar talking to the bartender. The manager tells me that they always charge and I tell him he is a lie because I come there regularly. There was two other occassions that I have had this problem with Uptown. On one ocassion, I told the parking lot attendant that I was not going to pay and that I would take it up with the manager. He told me, dont worry about it, but had the nerve to say, "Well if people dont even want to pay $5.00 to park they probably arent going to spend any money in the business anyways". The second time, I was going to meet a friend there on a Sunday night. He arrived before me and was told he had to park. Of course I told him not to and to wait for me. When I got there I told the parking attendant that I was not asking him to valet my vehicle and that I wasnt going to pay him anything. I told him that I was tired of them always trying to haggle money on the parking for an establishment that rarely has a crowd anyways. Well, with my family with me, it was a complete embarrassment. I left and will never go back. I can smoke narghili from Cafe Europe, Ya Ya Marys, Ranoush, or a few other hookah bars for free. It's obvious we only go for the hookah as there is usually no crowd. Next they will be charging a cover at the door We ended up at Cafe Europe that night, and though it was a little more expensive, the accomodations were great. OK, so I am not a smoker. I smoke one (or two) cigars a year when on Vacation just for fun, but generally I can't stand smoke. I had never tried smoking from a Hookah, so you could imagine my surprise with the realization that Hookah smoke is completely clean( meaning it doesn't have the after taste cigars and cigarettes have)!! Woo hoo! Don't be fooled, you will still choke if you inhale it wrong, but it's pretty fun. We went to this place on a Saturday night and it was EMPTY. There were probably another 10 people in the whole entire place. The parking is $5 and it's not even Valet. I wasn't too thrilled that we had to pay $5 to park the car in a unpaved lot. My friend ordered the Hookah and it took them about 10-15 minutes to prepare it for us. We actually played a pool game while they got it ready. I, of course, was winning the game but didn't want my friend to feel bad that a girl beat him... so I let him win. Yes, I am very compassionate. The place is just an OK establishment, looks a little worn out. We sat outdoors and it was actually a very nice night. I think it was an overall great first time Hookah experience and will definitely do it again. We smoked the mint flavored only, but I hear they have a lot of great choices! read more

Would give 0 stars if I could. Parking was $10. Cheap DIY decorations on the wall. Crusty couches. If you come to this place pay cash because the servers will tip themselves on your credit card. This is a decent little hookah lounge. Unfortunately, the service could be better. First of all you have to pay for parking. Either $10 for upfront or $5 for in the back. Then they claim they have free wifi, however, I was never able to connect. Also if you want more coal you have to go outside and get your own. Employees walking around and servicing you is non existent. Even if you go and ask they claim they'll come but they don't. Over I did enjoy the music and the comfy vibe with my guest. CARLOS the Manager has been having relations with a waitress named Zayda (name maybe spelled wrong) who is known for fluffing peoples tabs for her benefits. They've constantly had issues with waitresses and bartenders doing this and has fired them for doing so but not Zayda. She is currently still working at uptown and the PDA that Carlos and the waitress has displayed is extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable to the guest. I have questioned the waitress for this issue and because her boyfriend who happens to be the manger; instead of correcting his employee he gets in our faces disrespects us, curses us out and bands us guest. He is extremely disrespectful and unprofessional and because of his treatment towards guest I do not recommend this place to anyone. Uptown Hookah has really transformed itself into a dope little spot, especially considering the amount of competition it has with other local hookah spots/bars around the vicinity of Richmond/Westheimer/Chimney Rock. On most nights of the week, it's pretty slow. A quiet spot to bring a first date or your side chick. Not many people, and you can really duck away into a little back booth. The spot boasts a well-sized room with areas sectioned off by walls (hence the side-chick part). It has a decent sized bar with seats, some tables in the center of the room, booths along the walls, and a couple closed of sections you can reserve for bottle service. And don't forget, plenty of TVs for those of us who watch sports. Their drinks are good & their hookah is pretty strong. That's a plus! Their all new "Culture Thursday's" really being the people out with drink specials until 9PM & hookah specials until 8PM. It gets PACKED! Live DJ, bottle service, good ass music. It's a win win. Most ONLY annoyance - the parking lot is HUGE, and they still want to hoe to pay either $10 for the front lot or $5 for the back lot. And it's not even VIP Gross. This is one of my favorite Houston clubs. Yes, they only have like one waiter and 2 bartenders so service sucks and waiting is long especially once it gets packed but... Pregame. This place was terrible from start to finish, the parking lot was gross and the front door didn't look inviting at all. But that's fine, I was there to go inside not sit outside. The inside wasn't much better, as soon as we walked in everybody was giving my group weird looks and made us feel unwelcome and unwanted there. We ended up ordering hookah from the bar and sitting outside, as they told us that we could only smoke outside (there were people smoking hookah inside). then the waitress finally came up to us and kept asking where our number was, a number which we never received after paying for the hookah. This place is chill, first time here. Came here on a Saturday night...good drinks, hookah is on point, and the DJ was playing a nice mix of old and new hip hop and r&b hits. Tough to get drinks after 11p on a nite like the afore mentioned. Just dont spill it, somebody will probably slip on the dance floor (& the drinks are comparably pricey). Flavored tobacco is not my favorite grass to toke, instead i usually go on the back patio to politik or get some fresh air. Back inside we gets bizzy! Flags waved to national club anthems and bass helping ya move to da'riddems. Nothing conventional here, you're not even supposed to dance, ya boogy. Caan'yundastand me? Get over yourself expecting finely decorated walls and clean floors. If the floors are dirty, the staff could be lazy, or the place may be *that* live. Uptown can be a hit or miss. One of the best places to go for hookah, drinks && a live DJ. About the Hookahs: they carry Haze (best shisha ever!!) and fantasia brand. All the hookahs are ONE hose, so if you are looking for the multiparty hookahs this is not the place. The prices are great compared to other hookah spots! Drinks: the prices are average for this area of town. No happy hour on the weekend, but awesome specials on the weekdays. Bottoms up right? By far some of the greatest bartenders I've met. This place is cool. I enjoy hookah's and they have a great variety of flavors. I went this past Monday night and had a blast. I enjoy the cabana seating outdoors and the clientele that comes in as the night progresses. I have never ordered any of the food, but I've eaten their buffet enough times that I can say it's pretty good stuff. This place is extremely pricey on the drinks, which knocks it down a few stars. It shouldn't cost that much to get a few drinks here. However, given that it's always empty here, I guess they gotta make their $$ somehow. An interesting, unique hookah experience for sure, but the dingy atmosphere and hit or miss service make it unappealing. I've been here a couple of times with friends just as a change of pace from other more traditional hookah places. This place is a mixture of a dance club and a hookah bar/place. It has a bar, dance floor, and DJ booth along with seating all around. My main gripes with Uptown Hookah are that the place is very dark and dingy. It just doesn't feel clean. The inside just seems really divey. Also their beer selection is pretty bad, and they are typically out of a number of beers the 2 times I've been there. Hookah is $16 for a water base, $22 for a well liquor base, and $25 for a Premium liquor base. Their flavors are good, but I don't think they give you very much shisha for the price. I would however recommend the "Swagberry" flavor. It's pretty good. Also they won't give you 2 hoses, even if you have 7 people like we did. Mixed drinks and drink prices are pretty typical of a nightclub, so I've got no complaints there. Food is surprisingly good. The Jalapeno Poppers I got were fresh and tasted good. So a thumbs up to the food. The DJ was really good. Plays nothing but rap but his song selection was on point. I' think overall if they just made the inside look nicer it would go a long way. I knew we were not gonna have a good time when I was charged $5 for parking (more like a gravel pit), and the lot was pretty much empty. Huh? Went to Uptown last Friday for a small birthday gathering. We arrived about 10:30 pm and were the first people inside. I asked the doorman if the place usually gets busy and he let me know that it does some time later, so we stuck around. We chose a booth seat and went to the bar to order drinks and hookah. The bartender let us know he would send our hookah to the table, which he did. The hookah and drinks were good, but the service was terrible. Although the place never filled up, Our coals constantly needed to be replaced, and there was no one to assist. I saw a guy replace the coals at another table, but when I asked him for new coals he told me he was busy. The coals were so bad we weren't able to smoke the hookah for over an hour. We also ordered food from the bartender, who was very friendly again and let us know our food would be sent over. Unfortunately, our food did not arrive for at least 45 minutes later. I would not recommend Uptown. There are plenty of hookah places around that have better service and are attentive to their customers. read more

Got to Uptown around 9:45ish and it took at least 20mins for someone to take our order, strike one. So then is was 10:45 and still nothing. Strike two. Got the attention of some random worker to take our order yet again and after about 30mins of nothing, I got pissed. Strike three. So I demanded the manager. He came over apologizing and such offering us hookah and refills and drinks of our choice on them which was cool cause I don't play lol. First time visiting this place, we got their almost 12am. Immediately upon arrival we noticed it would be pretty crowded, their was a line to pull into the lounge. All of the free parking was taken, so we did the pay to park. Depending on how close you want to be, parking was $5-10. Soon as you walk in the place was live and crowd was dancing and having a good time. There was absolutely nowhere to sit except outside or in the back. They have no waitresses, so you basically have to do everything yourself, order your food, drinks, hookah, etc. The hookah costs $15 and drinks were reasonable. I will never be back and I will encourage my friends to no visit this place as well. If I hadn't already paid for parking I would've simply left. Was sitting at the table for a about 10 minutes and the waitress never came. Ended up having to order food and drinks at the bar. If you are looking for a complete upscale waiter at your table side, yes sir, no ma'am venue this place is not for you. NOW if your looking for a FUN, CHILL, STRONG DRINKS, LOUD, GOOD top 40 MUSIC then THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!!! The hookah is really inexpensive with multiple flavors (Million dollar is my fave). The atmosphere is completely chill. The bartender with glasses and a beard is quick and knows how to make a stiff drink. The dress code is laxed so stuffy ties and a suite jackets are not needed for Uptown Hookah unless you plan to undo the top button, take the jacket off and cuff those arm sleeves. *I definitely recommend. read more
