They also provide pup cups so my little upper had a tasty treat as I wrote this review. I gave this place a shot twice and honestly $15 for a coffee and a muffin was a waste of my morning. I've tried this place twice because it's so close. The pastries air on the side of dry and unsweet The chocolate muffin was good but the pumpkin load tasted off. Can't put my finger on why disliked the flavor but I didn't eat more than a quarter of it before I have up I tried the Viennese coffee, something I've had many times elsewhere, and it missed the mark. Came back a second time and kept it simple with an iced hazelnut latte. It was then I realised why I don't like it --- coffee espresso taste a little burnt and bitter. They charge $1 for milk subs and $0.65 for a flavor shot. Another turn off was that none of their food is made fresh and is all prepackaged. I'd return of some friends wanted to meet up but would probably keep it safe and get a chai tea or something. read more

The velvet foam in my mouth says YUMMMMM. Let me start off with positive affirmations about the biz. My tasty beverage was superlative! Not only did my barista make an amazing drink she was personal and engaged in conversation and even provided a smile. The establishment is huge so your not stacked on top of each other and has both large and small tables for all your needs. All thumbs up so far. The non open wifi network was a hassle. I was meeting a client and we needed to you use internet to follow up on some information. How ever when we tried to locate WI-FI it was u available. Total party fowl on your business. Was in dire need of coffee before work, so luckily this spot is literally across the street from work. I ordered a hot Caffe Latte. It was definitely pretty good for a chain coffee place. I enjoyed the "velvet foam" on top of my latte. I'm not a fan of chain coffee stores at all, but I think this is a solid place. Updated: April 2017; came here again and ordered the same Caffe Latte. Amongst the Uptown stores, all of which I have tried and several which I patronize, this one is on the better side of an admittedly tight field: the Uptown brand is a local favorite of mine, and the stores are similar in many ways, so I am picking nits, I realize. Their service isn't quite as stellar as the California store, but it's very good. The barista work isn't the perfection you'll find at the Magnolia store, but it's also very good. And they are certainly better in both service and product than the Queen Anne location, and of course light years beyond the inept baristas, filthy conditions and creepy atmosphere of the Belltown store, which remains the only one of the bunch that doesn't easily surpass Starbucks in quality. A bit of a mystery, that Belltown store. Million dollar location with dime-store management. But I digress. The missing star is for general cleanliness, which is somewhat understandable considering this particular location is also a game store and gaming venue; it can be overrun with young folks at times, and it's well known that some avid gamers have unique approaches to the concept of hygiene. Observe a "Magic the Gathering" match sometime, and then tell me if I'm wrong. And carpet is a mistake in a coffee shop. Just saying. It collects odors and debris. That said, this is a well-established and deserving community fixture, and a go-to for me in this part of town (even if I will always take my coffee to go)! Recommended. read more

UPDATE: What a bummer!! This place was great when it was also a game emporium. I guess there is a new owner and they decided to nix the games, huge mistake IMO. The espresso is great. BUT the customer service is so undesirable that it over powers the fabulous espresso. In addition they have pastries sitting out being easily offered to a swarm of flies. I used to drop by here often. By a coffee and browse games on the commute. Many nights there would be gatherings of fellow geeks playing all sorts of stuff. But the new owners stripped out all that. It looks so barren and empty now. Now it's just another boring coffee place. The drinks are more expensive than many other places, which I was always fine with due to the atmosphere. Now they don't seem worth it. A new coffee place, Youngstown Coffee, just opened down Delridge. Cheaper, better coffee and pastries and doesn't feel so soulless. As for board games a go to Meeplee about 10 minutes further into West Seattle. What a loss for the community. read more

Seattle's Coffee Yelp Recognition Award: Best Foam Uptown Coffee is my coffee "go-to" in Seattle. While there is a lot of competition throughout the Coffee Capital, you can't beat their infamous Velvet Foam lattes. In true Coffee definitions, all their lattes would be considered wet cappuccinos... Their secret is not in the type of milk used, but the temperature at which they froth the milk. I have being mesmerized watching the art hundreds of times during my daily recurrent caffeine-lows, but let's not get into the fine details! Bottom line is their coffee + amazing foam topping with a dot = One spot on excellent coffee. No matter where I am in Seattle, I can make an Uptown Coffee run. Belltown, Magnolia, Interbay waterfront, Delridge, West Seattle, Alki, South Lake Union, Lower Queen Anne, Wallingford...they've got me covered. The majority of their locations have the tacky dark green carpet and artsy chalkboard menus, the space is nothing to be excited about. However, I will say that the Delridge/Youngstown location is the most spacious and unique with a Gameporium. Bookshelves stacked with alphabetized games for purchase are organized to the tee by someone as OCD as myself. Not to mention their antique painted walls that feature the historic Luna Park. The only downfall is the very limited amount of plugs if you're planning to charge your devices. All in all, give any of the Uptown Coffee locations a try. read more

Close to I-5 and 99, this coffee shop is pretty darn cool. If you're looking for a great place to veg out with your computer, meet someone for a quick non-alcoholic bev, or read in a comfy chair, here is a good place in West Seattle. Cool vibe, all dark browns in color scheme. There are many tables (inside and out), comfortable furniture, and guess what--it's right next to a convenience store (if you need ATM) and Subway (if you're hungry for more than biscotti). Last time I was here, I wanted iced green tea and the barista took the time to insist I give him my splendas to brew with the tea, because it tastes better... wow! Now that's thoughtfulness! I gave him a good tip, and he was good-lookin'. -1 star because they could definitely add more snacks.. bagels, anyone? Cinnamon raisin or whole wheat? I thought it was because the West Seattle location but their decor is a little old, dark, and depressing. Then my friend told me that all the other locations are exactly the same. Service was friendly and coffee taste foamy. The atmosphere could use some uplifting. Maybe it's just my timing but listening to someone singing "Cry Me A River" and other bluesy songs didn't exactly perk up my Saturday afternoon. I'm a big fan of small local espresso cafes and Uptown Espresso is no exception. This location in particular is one of my favourite spots. It can be easily missed when you're whizzing by to and from the WS Bridge and the parking lot is pretty limited, but the people working there are so wonderful and the atmosphere is perfect for just about anything, from studying to catching up with friends. And I LOVE that it's also a game emporium, where you have the option of trying out some tabletop games before purchasing. My only issue is that their drinks aren't always consistent. Really enjoy some of the new pastries (blackberry rosemary muffin is my favorite). I'm a drip coffee kind of person so can't really comment on their lattes and such, though I'm always happy with the cup I get. Coffee is hot and strong! This space is big, lots of big tables, lots of studying, game playing or meetings here. It's great if I want to spread out the paper, but I wish they'd bring back the cozier chairs they had years ago for sitting and reading or chatting with friends. Usually service is good and baristas are friendly. I've been in here on and off for years and it seems the people working here are consistent in service levels. I wish I could say I enjoy their hot food menu, but like much of the store it's simply over priced. I don't have $10/day to spend on breakfast, and I'm sure few others do. At the price points they have here I haven't even bothered trying the food. I wish there was a $5-6 option for hot breakfast as well. Sodas in the fridge are really expensive too, so I usually just hit the deli next door instead. read more

Yet I was the one who was alone, on a Friday, writing a silly story on my 'puter, surrounded by dozens of people having fun, socializing and living their lives. Every day before I go to work I get a chai... call it an additction I don't care I love it. Anyways, this place is where i go... day after day after day after day. The chai is Oregon brand which is prefectly fine in my book and they always ask me if i want cinnamon on top... duh! hells yes i want another reason to love you guys! The pastry selection is limited but the snickerdoodles are freaking awesome. Most of the time I'm just grab and go but when i do get a chance I stay for a bit and pretend to be an important person when in all actuallity I'm just playing words with friends on my kindle. There are plenty of places to sit, lots of tables, chairs and comfy couches along with some great nooks and cranies to hide in if your not feeling overly social. Which brings me to my not 5 star reason. Excellent game spot: the collection, both for playing and purchasing, is impressive. They also make playing games more fun through a promo where, for playing certain games, you collect ingredient cards that you can then exchange for free drinks. If they had more substantial food like sandwiches or salads, it would be perfect for people who like to stay longer. As it is, a pastry isn't usually enough. They do let you bring food in, but I'd rather not have to leave and some back, and I'm also willing to patronize the shop instead of spending my money elsewhere. read more

I want to love this place, I really do! Its really close to me and it appears perfect on first glance, big tables for working, nice big windows for natural light, free wifi! But, it is just not what it seems. The warehouse-type room means that sound is amplified. A couple talking in the complete opposite corner sounds like they are sitting in my lap while I sit in my corner trying to dissertate! Plus their music selection is very random. Sometimes its quiet and unobtrusive, sometimes its ridiculously loud and sounds like it belongs in a restaurant bar! The coffee is ok, not great. They have no food items to speak of, I had a muffin once that was so crusty I had 2 bites and threw it out! Maybe if you are there first thing in the morning, but its usually around 9am when I get there and there is nothing good left. My least favorite part though is the cliquey nature of it. Its the kind of place where you can go up and order a coffee with the baristas saying as few words as possible to you....but a "regular" will come up right after you and get 5 star service! I hate that! I like to order my coffee, be pleasant but not chatty, then go sit down and get to work. More often than not when I am here, I will be in line and a "regular" will be behind me so the barista will start their drink and ring them up before even saying hi to me. Its like you are not important unless you talk to them and know their favorite color and what they did last weekend! (just to reply preemptively to any critics; I do still tip, so its not that. I also am still nice to them, so its not that either. I just want to be served with a little bit of friendliness without having to earn good service by becoming their bff first!) I think the most annoying part about this place is that it looks like it is set up to cater to people wanting to get some work done. Im all for coffee houses being a gathering place to hang out and have fun, but they should be set up that way. This place is just taunting us with big tables and free wifi, but then as soon as you sit down, it becomes a social gathering. Its not just me either, every time Im in there I can see the other working people annoyed by the noise. Anyways, not my first choice, I only come here when Diva is too busy. If you are looking to join a coffee house chat group, then this is your place. If you are looking to get a cup of good coffee and some work done, NOT your place at all!! read more

Sad to say that about every I had issues with the wifi and end up grabbing my cup of yummy goodness and heading to the next coffee shop. Unfortunately, today was my last venture to this particular Uptown to work which saddens me as it is literally a hop, skip, and a jump from my house. In Uptown Espresso's defense in West Seattle, the Delridge location completely beats the one off Edmunds. I actually cannot believe it is the same small chain. It is waaay newer than the other Uptown, is decorated nicely, and the staff seems both nice and knowledgeable. While I would not screech on the brakes to pull over for their coffee, it is good... I just wish the owners would renovate the other location, since that one is more central in West Seattle. Oh well, in the meantime, I will go here when I am in the area, but I will NEVER go to the other location (close to California Ave SW and off of Edmunds... It's icky). read more

This Uptown location doubles as a Gameporium of boardgaming. I credit Meeples for starting me on this, but Delridge Uptown is like the Cheers bar of gaming in West Seattle- only replace the alcohol with coffee and light pastries. Delridge boasts shelves upon shelves of games in their free library to try, and full time Game "Wardens" are always on hand to answer any questions and teach you how to play. There is always ample parking out front, which is a good thing because there are gamers who travel as far as Covington and Redmond just to play here. read more

A great place to get great coffee in West Seattle/North Delridge. Whether I get an Americano, mocha or chai, it's always good and the customer service is awesome. It seems the baristas here always go out of their way to remember your name. This particular Uptown Espresso is very spacious inside and there is a big table that can acoomodate many people for work meetings or larger gatherings. Its location right before the entrance to the West Seattle Bridge makes this place the perfect pitstop for Westsiders before they exit the "island" of West Seattle. :) See you at Uptown Espresso if you're ever looking for a caffeinated beverage in the North Delridge area of West Seattle! read more

I was walking off the piece of delicious cow that I had at Jak's steakhouse down the street when I saw the "Home of the Velvet Foam" sign. It looked intriguing so I walked in. The foam is really velvety. Very cool taste and a definite first for me. Baristas are friendly. Coffee is good. The only thing that was peculiar is a weird smell in the place. Not sure if it was cat urine or bad plumbing, but one thing is for sure - they need to get rid of that 20-year-old looking carpeting and put in some laminate or tiling on that floor. read more

This is a pretty decent joint! Located in the middle of a random shopping center but still super cool! The store has two awesome wall murals that look like vintage ads.... nice to look at. This location is one of my best for reading my book and have a calm time. The lobby is decorated with wood and reflects W.Seattle figures on the walls. They have a nice community board and beverages are the best. They grind fresh coffee for each drink and this of course improve the taste. For most part it seems to me like an average small coffee shop. The brew is decent and there are plenty of tables to sit at. The service unfortunately was subpar. Even though I was the only person in line I wasn't greeted nor glanced at by the three baristas. In checking out what was left in the pastry case it was hard to miss the tiny bugs circling and crawling on the muffins. I hesitate in giving the establishment a one star rating because it does offer something unique, boardgames! The cashier perked up a bit when I asked if the open box games were playable. They are! In fact the bottom shelf around the entire store was available for play. Hopefully it's just an off day. read more

As a self-proclaimed coffee snob, I do have to say that by far, the best coffee in Seattle is at Uptown. The service is sometimes a little slow since they only have one or two baristas behind the counter, so it's not the place to go if you're in a hurry. They've always got good music playing, and the baristas are always friendly, even if they do look a little hungover sometimes. But then again, I usually am too, when I stop by on a Sunday morning for my caffeine fix. Oh, and they DO have the getlocal wifi service, magalie! But maybe this is a recent development. Finding an outlet can sometimes be tricky, though, for those of us with short-lived laptop batteries. read more

I was waiting to meet a colleague and browsing the gaming shelves, and I asked the Barista, "can you tell me about your wifi situation?" She replies, "you mean the one for paying customers?" If I had written this review a month ago, it would have been five stars. A shop with plenty of space, decent (not stellar) coffee, and an active, engaged staff of "game valets" to help visitors find a play a game no matter your skill level or the sort of players. At any given time, I'd see hardcore role-playing nerds (like me!) one table over from casual board gamers, serious board gamers, and families just enjoying silly games with their children. Friends and I would stay for hours, buying coffee and pastries to support our game shop. It was AWESOME. The valets were interested and active gamers able to speak with surety on any number games and to help someone like me find new fun. So what happened? Fonté One of Seattle's thirty-trillion coffee chains, Fonté bought the Uptown chain, and have since decided to slap all the gaming families and friends in the face. Game Valets? Gone. Community atmosphere? Gone. Reason to head down to the shop? Gone. Now, Alex, the fellow who runs the game side is a good guy. Fonté screwed him hardest of all, I think. He's still there, trying to make the gaming side work all by himself. I suggest you head down there and have whatever fun you can before Fonté finds a way to take it entirely away. I love Uptown Espresso, they have amazing coffee, teas and snacks. I especially love this location because of the game emporium. All the games available for purchase are playable. My family and I usually come here a couple times a week to try out different boardgames over a beverage and snack. My favorite drinks here are the Iced London Fog and Iced Chai, I'm also quite fond of their short bread as well. Great place to study or just sit back, relax and enjoy good company. read more
