Dr. Patel is the most upfront, honest, and professional dentist I've ever been to. I knew my problem of 15 years needed to be remedied sooner rather than later. Other dentists were generally unapproachable about it and avoided the issue, or just mentioned it but offered no solution (i.e "oh you've got that going on... *the end*"). Because of his friendly demeanor, Dr. Patel was the first dentist I've been able to comfortably have an open dialogue with. He's an excellent communicator who really cares, providing straightforward answers to any questions, a clear path of treatment, while never being pushy or withholding of any information (costs on top of insurance, treatments involved and their purpose, etc.). Just solid advice I could easily understand, then research and come to my own conclusions about. This place SUCKS. As a new client with an emergency situation going on , being a bad toothache and possible infection they literally turned me away citing they had NO OPEN APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE. After a positive first visit with Dr. Patel and Uptown Dental Arts I went there for a second time yesterday because of an issue with an old filling. 1) I had gotten an appointment very quickly, from one day to the other, friendly staff. 2) Unbureaucratic and straight forward in terms of paperwork, hardly any waiting time to see the doctor. 3) Dr. Patel thoroughly explained the issue and what my options were. I sensed no intention on his part to "sell" his treatment services, on the contrary, he gave me advise as to what I had to do in order to push off what would be a very complicated and expensive treatment (involving root canal, crown, etc.). He took his time to explain and answer my (many !) questions. I felt that he had my best interest in mind and that he knows what he is talking about. Overall very professional. read more

Save yourself the trouble and headache. Awful staff (the health aids/assistants are nice and I feel bad for them because there is only so much they can do). They say one thing, then do another. If you want to do Invisalign or braces, do NOT go here. If you have any groupons or anything, don't bother. The groupons are aimed to bring you in but what they do is upcharge the transaction to charge you more $ and you don't even know it because you think "this groupon is helping me save so much $!". No it didn't. Be careful with claims placed with your insurance company. Management is rude and extremely unprofessional (particularly one named Irina). I actually have a video showing the unprofessionalism (management may feel free to contact me). I paid for the treatment for Invisalign, retainers, and teeth whitening. At the end of the treatment, they wouldn't give me the teeth whitening. First they said they didn't have anymore. Then they said that the promotion was no longer available (I challenged this because that's not what was agreed when I first started the processes, nor was this what was promised or that I had paid in full for), then they told me it was because there was a gap where I stopped coming for treatment. I challenged this as well, because the only time I stopped (more like paused) from going for treatment was in 2020, when covid happened and the office shut down for MONTHS, and at that point no one wanted to go outside and I didn't feel safe particularly since I am type 1 diabetic and my immune system is compromised. Then the manager (I won't name here because I would rather address this with her boss first vs DRAGGING her, maybe she was having a bad day or maybe not?) told me that they were under new management. I asked why no one called me then to say something and she could not give me an answer and kept looking at her computer instead. This manager was extremely rude. Remined seated from her side of the room, barely made eye contact and the more I challenged her "reasons" the less she tried to help or cared to help and had a smirk on her face the entire time like it was hilarious. She accused me of yelling, which I did not. and maybe she would have realized it if I didn't feel the need to slightly raise my voice since she was so far away sitting on her chair and there is a thick clear/plastic barrier for covid I am assuming? or security? Then rude manager brought up my groupon. Said I barely paid for my treatment and it was expensive. As if that is the reason why they aren't honoring what was promised and what I paid for. I immediately interrupted and told her that should not affect what I signed and fully paid for. If they did not want to honor the Groupon, they shouldn't have. Or they shouldn't have offered the teeth whitening. I don't remember when was the last time I was treated bad as a customer. It was kind of surreal. I asked her for her superior's contact information, and she refused to give it to me. Gave me a regular business card. In conclusion, awful experience. All over. Never again. Now I have to look for my receipt/paper that shows what I signed up, and then show up again to address all of this. At this point it isn't even about the teeth whitening, it's about how humiliating and poorly everything was handled. And there are sooo many more things but this was the straw that broke the camels back. read more

DON'T go there! this Doctor is the worst I ever had, he is SO RUDE and entitled, I wish I could punch him in the face! really! He treated me so badly because I have poor people's insurance. He did a filling last year that came off I went for getting it fixed he said my insurance will not cover it when I ask that he should cover it then because a good filling should last more than a year he started being so rude to me and walked away. There is seriously something WRONG about this Dr. Save yourself a headache and DON"T go there!! He does NOT do his job well. He said I can't save it , it needs to be extracted . he didn't let me speak or listen to me what I am saying he also made fun of me . If Michael Jordan and Bruce Lee got together, had their sperm spliced and artificially inseminated into Mother Theresa whose baby grew up to be a dentist, his name would be Dr. Patel. After several traumatic dental experiences in my teen years, (the last of which included having the entire roof of my mouth burned with 3rd degree burns) I was horrified of dentists. From the age of 18-29 I refused to see a dentist no matter how much my mouth hurt. But finally the inevitable happened. Due to intense tooth pain, I had completely lost the ability to chew on the left side of my mouth. Since I had lost the right side 3 months earlier, I was relegated to spicy V-8 and Jamba Juice for almost two weeks before I had to make a decision. Face my worst fear, or lose the sole reason for which I live, my ability to eat. Dr. Patel was the "best friend" of a good friend. But honestly, I don't care whose best friend you are, going to the dentist sucks ass, it's an undeniable, proven, scientific fact. Well at least that's what I used to think... I knew it was gonna be bad. X-rays showed I needed 3 root canals - sounds about right. But going in there I had a plan. Knock me the f out. Dr. Patel politley refused, siting multiple reasons why it would not be advisable, blah blah blah blah blah. But I persisted - no way, not gonna happen. I'm out of here. Anyways, I was pretty sure I could get by on liquids until the end of Shamrock shake season and hopefully by then my teeth would just fall out naturally. Finally, Dr. Patel offered a deal. If I felt any pain at all, he would immediately stop and put me under. Hunger pangs and visions of eating a Minetta Tavern black label burger stuffed with o-toro and McDonald's fries forced me to agree reluctantly. Eyes shut hard, mouth open wide, sweating, heart racing, left hand clutching the chair, right hand hovering near my face ready to knock the drill out of this guy's hand at the first sign of pain. The headphones which Dr. Patel suggested I wear, drowned out the sound of the drill...I could smell a little tooth smoke, but no pain. At least not for the first 20 minutes.... "Your done," he said. "What you mean like your done putting in the anasthetic?" "No. Procedure is finished. I'll see you in a couple weeks to put the crowns in." I'm not too big of a man to say that I teared up a little right then. That was the most joyful anticlimatic moment of my life. I don't know what kind of new fangled technology, dental grandmaster techniques he uses. Wizardry, Some real Harry Potter Gandolph shit. That was 12 years ago. Since then, I have seen Dr. Patel ("Parag" as I call him now), multiple times. When he moved to L.A. for two years to teach Dentistry at USC Dental school I flew out there whenever I had teeth problems. When I moved to the west coast and he was back in New York, I did the opposite. For the last 3 years I have been living in Asia (hence not many Yelps lately) but I still will only see him. I am not wealthy, it's expensive to fly from Saigon to New York for dental work. But to me, it is a no brainer - there is no other option. America, you are lucky to have this man. read more

I''ve been going to this dentist practice for about 15 years and Dr. Patel took over as my old dentist retired. He's very personable and took the time to explain everything. He actually showed me my x-rays and explained signs of decay (thankfully none!), damage etc. I've never had a dentist be so thorough. He made recommendations but I never felt as though he was trying to "up-sell" me, but rather giving an honest professional opinion. His staff are also wonderful and provide great customer service. Best of all, if you're waiting to see the dentist, the receptionist will put you in this state of the art massage chair that kneads you from head to toe. A surprising and relaxing treat! I've known Dr. Patel for many many years. I was a patient of his when he was still doing his internship at a hospital in Queens (?) and I haven't looked back since. His work is flawless and like another reviewer said, there is no pain, ever. I now live in Sydney Australia, but whenever I am back in NY, I see the good Dr. I have referred many friends and family who still live on the East coast to him and will continue to do so. Ah, my very first Yelp review... After 5 years of silence, my first published critique will not be about the divinely delectable reason for Yelp's existence, but instead will be based on the vital instruments that help me to devour the crunchy, creamy, sweet, salty, spicy wonders of life. My mom, sister and I have been coming to Dr. Patel since he took over the practice from Dr. Mergler a few years ago. I must say, I have NEVER enjoyed going to the dentist. In fact, I've always dreaded going as it was always an uncomfortable, arduous, and most times painful experience for me. Dr. Patel has changed all that. Not only do I genuinely enjoy watching the years of dental neglect fade away as Dr. Patel and his staff address the sorry state I've left my teeth in, but I actually enjoy the process as well. There's no pain and no stress. The office is always full of life (and great music!) and Patel and his wonderful staff feel like family. Violet, Karen, and Kevin have been there from the start and are a little dental home away from home. Dr. Patel is thorough, communicative, attentive, and understanding. Although not all insurances are accepted, Dr. Patel will work with you to take care of your most problematic issues. I've had to pay out-of-pocket, but it is WORTH IT for the peace of mind he affords. I have no doubt that a visit to Patel's office will change any apprehensive feelings about going to the dentist. He is rude and rough! Went in for an emergency visit of a missing filling. I Was told that no procedures would be performed that my Medicaid wouldn't cover, without my permission. Dr. Patel looked at the tooth and told me it needed a crown. Then he began to clean my teeth without my permission. I was told after the fact that my insurance wouldn't cover the teeth cleaning because it had had cleaning somewhere else the week before. Although I was told that nothing would be done without my permission that Medicaid wouldn't pay for, that's exactly what he did and then told me I was liable to pay him anyway. He then blamed me for not telling them that I had been somewhere else a week before. Although he performed a cleaning t without my permission, he tried to blame me for not telling them I had been to see another dentist the previous week! Dr. Patel could use some lessons in bedside manners. Not to mention his care was rough and hurt. read more

They say they make appointments but they do not. I arrived 15 minutes early to my "scheduled appointment" to only wait two hours to finally get my 5 min clean. I complained to the front desk as to why I was waiting so long, and she explained that appointments are for insurance verification purposes. I mean why tell someone they have an appointment at a specific time to have them wait for hours like a damn animal? I will never go back. The waiting and the 5 minute rushed cleaning was not worth it. Go elsewhere! read more

Run as far as you can Dr. Tania Rohany is the most horrible dentist ever and her staff is even worse. I found them in my insurance provider list. It's just a block away from my work so I decided to go to Dr. Tania Rohany's office. I was due for my teeth cleaning and thought it would be a simple basic thing and any dentist can do it. I called for an appointment and they asked me to come over and I thought great- its the fastest service but when I got there I realized it was just a trap. Unfortunately I already did paperwork decided to stay and am still regretting. First of all, they talk about appointments but you have to wait at more than two hours. Dr. Rohany walks into the room like she has already prepared to talk about a few root canals and some dental work which I never needed!!! I went there for a routine cleaning, and they convinced me that I needed to have my gums scaled. I've never had any issues prior, but I believed them because they're medical professionals. She then told me that I needed a few other dental procedures. I believed them, again, because you assume a medical professional won't lie to you. WRONG. I went to another dentist for a second opinion and he was perplexed and shocked that I had all of this periodontal work done. He said it was unnecessary. She was very eager to push an overpriced dental procedure on me, and did not shy away from accepting my money. And about teeth cleaning I feel my home care teeth brushing is better than their services. In short she is short, impatient, and a crappy dentist. STAY AWAY. read more
