I just switched to Dr. Johnson because my old dentist left my insurance network. And I'm delighted I did. Not that my old dentist was bad per se, but Dr. Johnson and his staff and general set-up are so much better! There was no wait at all. The front office staff were friendly and gave me the forms to fill out. I was a little early, and the dental hygienist Monica came to fetch me. She went through the x-rays and then did the cleaning in a very steady, reassuring, and skilled way. I know my teeth are a bit jagged, like rocks on a rough Maine coastline. But Monica was totally up to the challenge. She was calm and methodical, and did it perfectly. We went over my x-rays as well, with her explaining issues in a detailed and helpful manner. Then the doctor came in. He was very friendly and relaxed, discussing the issues with my teeth. No up-selling, no pressure. In fact I brought up a couple of issues where he could have easily up-sold some extra services (like a slightly chipped tooth), but he just waved his hand and said, "Nah, it's okay, we can observe it for a few more months". The bedside manner with Dr. Johnson is unmatched. And believe me, I am a nervous wreck when it comes to dental surgery. He didn't rush not one bit, happily answered any and all questions I had before after and even during. He spoke to me calmly, did everything possible to make me not a nervous wreck lol. 5 Dr. Johnson made me feel at ease during the entire procedure of getting decay removed and a new crown put in place, on a back molar. I felt almost completely relaxed as he work. He controlled my pain quite well, and he made me feel as comfortable as possible during this long procedure. He showed me a clear picture of the decayed tooth so I am confident that the procedure needed to be done. Dr. Johnson also showed me an image of his fine restoration work. I don't understand why they have a website to schedule an appointment for new patients yet it doesn't book the appointment. I schedule an appointment for November a couple of weeks ago and I called 10/13 to confirm the appointment and they tell me the appointment was not made yet. I told them I printed the appointment confirmation and I got the text message for the appointment and they told me that the website makes the appointment but it doesn't book it on their system. My question is why have the website if it doesn't book in your system? I told her that the insurance card has Dr Steven Johnson as the assigned Dentist for more than a year but she said that didn't matter. So my appointment was made online but not on their system so my appointment was not made. She was even rude about it. What a horrible service. read more

Got a Groupon for a dental cleaning. I hate admitting this as Groupons for dental work remind me of being 22 and not having decent insurance but I recently found myself in the same spot again as a grad student. Having been on the groupon dental train before I had very low expectations - my previous experience left my teeth clean but at the price of serious upselling via trolling about my perfectly fine teeth followed up by nonstop emails for years that managed to work it's way around my spam filters. So I expected the same. Their office was clean and had an efficient check in process. I had my teeth cleaned by a nice hygienist (although another reviewer mentioned that there seemed to be a lot of spraying involved, which there was!) and got my x rays and mouth checked out by the good doc. I braced myself to be told that I had some made up condition or issue - but nope! "Great teeth! See you next year!" Went on my way and checked out with no hidden fees or issues, just smiles. And guess what? Best sales pitch ever. I hope that he's my regular dentist for years to come and for others to go too! read more

Had an appointment at Dr. Johnson's for a crown . The office is modern and clean. I needed a crown which Dr. Johnson was able to complete in one visit for me. I am always a little nervous when going to the dentist but I was so comfortable at this dental visit. He numbed my mouth where the work was being done and I did not feel a thing. He was able to produce a crown in one visit using the latest technology of a Cerec machine. He tried it in and it was perfect! I didn't even have any pain afterwards after the Novocain wore off! I've been a patient since 2002 and find this to be a no-nonsense practice. I switched dentists briefly when insurance changed and was pushed by other dentist into redoing many fillings and disappointing quality work. Switched back to Dr J when he took my insurance again and I prefer his approach of not doing dental work unless there is a problem. The hygienists are always pleasant and I have never had to wait more than 5 min at my appointment. I don't always see him during my visits but unless there's a problem I'm really just there for a cleaning and that doesn't bother me. I have been here twice. First time the dental hygienist was great and that's why I returned this time. Not sure what happened after covid but she was no longer there and on my visit this week a new dental hygienist did my scaling. I thought she would break my teeth, it was so terrifying, but she was nice and stopped when I asked her to. Then she showed me how to floss and went deep under my gum, to the middle of my both front teeth with the floss. I did not know that was possible and it hurt a lot. Then she told me that I MUST floss deep into and under the gums, always. I thought that was odd so I googled it after my visit and everywhere on any website it says that one should never do that. My gum she had touched still hurts right now and I hope it will not become a bigger issue over the next few days. Then Dr. Johnson stopped by for like 20 seconds. I had some questions I wanted to ask, but I did not because he seemed busy and in a rush, and he said everything looked perfect as he stepped out of the room. Everything happened so fast and I really wasn't feeling comfortable with what the dental hygienist had done. I sat in the room for a minute while I was debating if I should try to get a few minutes with him to ask the questions I had or just leave. I understand he was busy that day but I didn't feel comfortable being in or leaving his office. Also the receptionist had her mask down while checking me in and when I was walking out, which was also concerning. I called them today to make a new appointment because my gum that was flossed by the dental hygienist hurt even more than yesterday and the receptionist hung up the phone while I was explaining that I wish to come in again due to this reason. At first I thought it was hung up by mistake so I called again and before I could say anything, she said "I am not talking to you, you can speak to Dr. Johnson" and hung up again and didn't pick up when I tried calling again. It was so bizarre how defensive and aggressive that receptionist was, I wonder if that is how she was told to handle any situation similar to mine. I think it's standard that you want to see the doctor or dentist again for a follow up when something feels wrong from the previous visit, and it is messed up how they are handling the situation. I am sure a lot of the visits go smoothly with Dr. Johnson's office like my first one, but I am writing to share my experience when things did not go smoothly. No patient or person should be treated like this and I will not be returning. read more

The only reason I went to this dentist for several years is because of my insurance and laziness -- and my hygienist was good. I've never had a doctor who seemed less interested in me. He would barely glance at my teeth and was usually quite rude about it. Good riddance to this guy. read more

Once the cleaning was over, I didn't get a check up because the Dr. was too busy pushing Invisalign on me. He told me that my teeth were so crooked that I'd feel at home in England! I don't know what the other two reviewers are talking about. They sound like Pre-Madonnas to me. I've been seeing Dr. Johnson and his other doctors for years and would not change a thing. He is always using the latest technology and will always make sure you are given the best care. As for bed side manner, he tells you if you have horrible teeth whether you like it or not. He gives it to you straight! If you have sh** teeth, he's going to tell you, and not try to fluff it up like the other two reviewers seem to care a lot about. My guess is they have pretty sh***y teeth. If that isn't enough to convince you, he even gave P. Diddy an emergency check-up, I was lucky enough to be there the one time he was there! Got his autograph and everything. I don't know if I can thank Dr. J enough. On top of all his kind and hard work and giving me the exact smile I've always wanted, he has often given free cleanings and cavity fillings. Dr. Johnson was incredibly helpful and thorough and I would recommend him to anyone after my appointment! But what really sets Dr. Johnson apart is how he helped my friend Christian. I recommended Christian go to Dr. Johnson after he broke his front teeth in an accident. Dr. Johnson has gone above and beyond in giving him the best care! I went to this dentist for my first, and only root canal. Dr. Johnson performed the root canal, then I returned for the crown about a week later. For this service, not only was Dr. Johnson paid by my insurance company, but I also paid an additional $700 Out-of-pocket. Approxamitely a year and a half later, I was shocked to discover I had a crack in my tooth and went to the nearest dentist to me that was listed in my insurance. I was shocked when I was told that the "cracked tooth" was actually the crown that Dr. Johnson had put in approxamitely a year and a half earlier. Refer any credible dentistry-related website, and they will indicate the MINIMUM length a crown should last is anywhere from 5-15 years, with the longest being UP TO 30 YEARS. So of course it would make sense that, after only a year and a half, Dr. Johnson would correct his work - which is all I wanted him to do. I told the dentist I saw at the time to simply temporarily fill the cracked crown and I would simply return to Dr. Johnson to correct his work. I was ultimately shocked by my experience. The assistant first came in and - after I explained the situation - said that Dr. Johnson only assures his work for TWO YEARS (in light of what I already illustrated as far as how long a crown should last - this obviously spoke volumes to me about Dr, Johnson's work, and his apparent confidence - or lack of confidence- in his work). The attendant to tell me however - that I was covered for a cleaning (how nice of her). Dr. Johnson then came in, obviously knew why I was their, and I explained again anyway. He then reiterated what his assistant said. Feigning a regretful tone, he said "ohhh, unfortunately the work is only guaranteed for 2 years." Shocked, I paused to absorb, and then said, "So you're telling me I need to pay full price for this AGAIN - a year and a half, two years after you did the work?" Without hesitation, he responded "Yes." Then, again without hesitation (and obviously without shame) he asked when I wanted to make the appointment for me to return for him to fix his broken orginal work. More laughably, he actually sounded surprised, and even a bit agitated, when I told him I wouldn't be making an appointment. If I had an auto-mechanic do a $1500 job for me, and it fell apart a year and a half later, they'd likely correct the work, or maybe correct it at a discount. But someone who is supposed to be a HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL, completely without shame or hesitation- treats it as an opportunity for a MONEY-GRAB. I'm not sure what was worse in this experience, the absolutely poor quality of the work in doing something that should have lasted 5-10 years minimum and fell apart after a year and a half, the insult to my intelligence in being given some pathetic excuse on why the work failed instead of taking reposnsibility for the poor work as a man and correcting it (which is all I asked for), or the fact that, not only did Dr. Johnson not own responsibility for the bad work and correct it, not only did he not say how would at least do it at a discount, or his cost, etc., but as mentioned, had the complete, disgraceful lack of shame to want to charge me FULL PRICE all over again. I ultimately had to go out and try to find another competent dentist to fix Dr. Johnson's bad work. Overall, one of the worst health-care experiences I have ever had. read more

Appointments are always prompt and the staff is friendly and they take the time to explain your options and the work being performed.

So I've been coming here for about 5 years now. I love, Lorina, the hygienist she is awesome. If she isn't there is don't want a cleaning from no one else. Dr. Johnson is cool too, funny guy. The only minor setback is that he takes quite long for my check up. If he was more on time this office would get 5 stars. read more

I have to agree with AF.: Dr. Johnson can be boorish. Too bad. He enjoys using state-of-the-art gadgetry--a kid with a new toy--and may spout doomsday judgments concerning a client's dental health so as to push him/her into accepting treatment that allows him to show off. Office atmosphere borders on the creepy. Short-term staffers from foreign countries who aren't necessarily polished in making you feel comfortable. He's also taken on a root-canal partner who seems equally inept when it comes to dealing with the public. Once I was short-changed by $60 by the receptionist who referred to insurance rates of the next year, instead of the current one. I reported this to my insurance provider. The receptionist did return the amount due me in a rather unhappy manner. It could have, of course, truly been a mistake. At present, I'm in search of a new dentist read more
