Over a decade ago I walked into this dental office not far from the Lincoln center area. It's tucked in this building on the second floor. I discovered it online after a disappointing experience at another dental office in Manhattan. That particular dental office wanted to upcharge me when I decided I wanted a more affordable option the office decided they no longer offered the particular service. In 2 years, I've never had the same dentist or hygienist twice. Usually, this factory experience is pretty quick, but today they made me wait a half hour to be checked by the dentist for 2 minutes. This impersonal experience is ok for routing cleanings, but if you have something wrong with your teeth, I would go elsewhere. read more

I have been using their serves for a few years and I feel I has gotten progressively worse. my last visit in Feb. 2024 will be my last appointment with them. Simple appointment to clean my teeth went as follows: as I arrived and was shown to the office the lady (who later was mopping the floor??) seated me in a room and announced that I will be getting an X-Ray. Since I had a full X-ray less than two years prior - I said, no, thank you. I was told I needed it, but I said no. at this point I was told I needed to sign a paper that I decline X-ray. I said fine. I was then left alone in the room for 45 minutes, finally asked a person passing by if I should leave. Again, I was told to get X-ray. I said - no, thank you. I was then told that the X-ray was digital, therefore not harmful.... not even going there. I believe it is my decision. in the end, and an hour and 15 minutes after arrival I signed the sheet and the doctor came in. He proceeded to "clean" my teeth, rather than a hygienist - the process lasted 12 minutes, did not include polishing and was a total waste of time. Not going back. Do not recommend. read more

STAY FAR FAR AWAY - currently suing them for malpractice. I had a routine gum procedure by Dr. Klein and was absolutely butchered. I returned to the office twice over the next 5 days, the first time because I was in immense pain and certain something was wrong. The next time I went back, a Monday 3 days later (after my emergency voice mails over the weekend went unanswered), I was severely infected and was told to just come back Wednesday when Dr. Klein would be in again. I told them that I needed to be seen immediately - I had a huge abscess filled with pus - and they said THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. No one in their office was able to assist me in even finding another option for care. My husband fortunately found an oral surgeon who we were able to see right away. He took one look at my mouth and said "I don't like to talk poorly about another person's work, but this was not done right." I needed to be put out completely and have the infection drained and treated, and I was put on three antibiotics to help heal. I was out of commission for 5 days, cancelled a vacation, and now have bills from an oral surgeon (who was amazing) - and West Side Dental will NOT REFUND ME THE $1400 they charged me for their "treatment." After over a dozen phone calls to Joshua and Geoffry, asking them to refund my money to no avail, I am now suing them for malpractice. read more

Still in the process of getting some work done, so I will review more as I go. So far I've had a really pleasant experience, the staff is so helpful and I feel safe. Virsha is so great and helpful. The current dentist working on me is amazing and I love that she provides information while working which helps me feel at ease. The dentist assistant, Cynthia has been really patient and sweet too. West Side Dental Cosmetic Dentistry Grants Scam The cosmetic dentistry grants are a bait and switch scam to rope patients in. When I called for their " "free" consultation, I asked all the right questions, whether they would accept my insurance, including whether it was transferrable from out of state (I live in New Jersey) to make sure I was not wasting my time on a trip I knew would take me all day, not to mention the following day recuperating. They repeatedly assured me that I was not wasting my time, but after filling out all the forms, wasting time with a patient orientation and seeing a consulting dentist, I was told that the dental grant would be about a 20 to 40% savings. The only slight problem was that the shysters at west side dental charge 4 to 6 times the national average for the procedures including the implants and that my insurance wouldn't cover it, so in short they lied both by omission and lied directly. The "free consultation" cost them nothing, but to me was anything but free because these idiots wasted a day and a half of my time and energy, including the rage and frustration they provoked by attempting to scam me, not to mention the fact my time and life is more valuable than theirs. Regardless of whether The Dental Grants were a desperate ploy to keep a failing business afloat or out of predatory opportunistic greed, there is absolutely no excuse for their legalized criminal behavior. read more

Westside Dental tried to scam me out of my insurance. Tried to charge me more then what DR.Joffy has told me.And has his staff to not let some patients get in touch with him until after he's taken something off of your Insurance that the office didn't provide. They lied to me and also sent me 2 a office that their affiliated with call Chelsea Dental which has a nice lady name Sabrina that works there,she lied to the Insurance providers and told them I've got work done when I didnt--When I asked her if she wanted me to report her for bad business, she said she was sorry and that she called my Insurance to get it reimbursed back to my insurance. DO NOT GO HERE! I received BAD advice/care that led to unnecessary suffering and out of pocket costs since I needed to see another dentist for an emergency procedure (additional visit & X-rays). I wish I could rate the dental service. As a new patient, the usual forms and X-rays were processed. The dental assistant kept assuring me that the dentist would arrive in '10 minutes.' She was trying to stall. An hour later, I went to the reception desk and was told that the dentist was with an emergency; and did I want to reschedule?...after waiting from 1:35pm - 2:45pm. At no time, was anyone honest by saying there would be an extensive delay or I would not be seen at all. I noticed only 3 patients coming in and out. So, I won't return. My appointment with Dr. Dhar was excellent. He is kind, gentle, and fast. I felt zero pain during the procedure. He removed two old caps, cleaned out the decay, made impressions for the new caps and put in the temporaries. And all in forty minutes. Everyone there is very kind. They pulled a tooth a few years back , didn't get the entire tooth , the fragments left behind caused infection in my mouth . I returned a few weeks ago with SEVERE mouth pain , waited for 52 minutes in the waiting room, paid the payment of $50 PLUS they took my insurance card and charged my insurance a payment as well , all they did was look at my mouth and set me up with another appointment .. so today I returned for the extraction and the front desk said they couldn't do the extraction until I paid $80 upfront ... I told her I had insurance and she said I don't have it on file . then she continues to call the insurance that she said she didn't have in file and in front of the office full of customers repeated my name , my address , social security number and birthdate out loud ... I left and found a different dentist , apparently this place just charges whatever they want even if you have insurance ... read more

My experience was far better than I expected from a dental visit! Everyone was friendly and professional. After X-rays, 3 cavities filled painlessly (after novocaine of course), and I was out in one hour! The fillings look so good, they are invisible to me. UPDATED REVIEW: I've been back twice more for cleaning since my first review. My hygienist is the reason I added all the stars back. She is patient, funny, and gives good advice. She makes my entire experience so great that I am able to look past the no-show incident (she was NOT the one that didn't show up, of course). :') OLD REVIEW: I made an appointment for cleaning and a check-up. Everyone, from the receptionist to the technician, is super nice and efficient. As a first time patient, I was even given a goody bag of oral hygiene products. The reason why I knocked off two stars? My doctor was a no-show. What's the point of appointments if you are not even going to show up? Where's the etiquette when you don't even explain why you are not showing up after your patient waits over 40 minutes? Already scheduled my next cleaning but if I need a dental surgery or something like that, I don't think I feel comfortable coming here to the said doctor. read more

It's not a fluke. I've been seen for two cleanings, and both times I was in and out in less than 25 minutes--including x-rays! They didn't hassle me about flossing, they spoke softly, and the dentist gave me some good advice about some bondings I'd had done a couple years ago. My head says I should reserve a star for a time I need major work done, but my heart insists that all five stars are deserved. read more

Westside Dental ignores emergency situations and does not follow through with a phone call. In addition, I have experienced mistreatment and attempt to scam payments from me prior to the work being done. They are extremely unprofessional and have caused me much grief, aggravation and loss. Our children Ishmael and Inara has been clients of Dr. Goldsmith's for several years and each time we come we are elated that we selected him! Very comfortable atmosphere. The hygienists are very professional but still like family. Didn't even get any work done. Receptionists are disorganized. If you need medical records of previous dental work that needs to said during the time of making an appointment not DURING the appointment. They said they could not do any work on me when I showed up to the appointment because of this. After they got in touch when my previous dentist (10 minutes after I gave them the number) they said they could no longer do any work on me because the dentist has other patients he needs to see and I would have to make a new appointment. What?!! What about the time you just had me waste (1 1/2 hours waiting plus 2 hours traveling). Ridiculous, never returning! And to the management - since when does a dental office NOT ask when was the last time I had dental work done. Seriously I was in the chair after X-rays, with the dentist looking in my mouth and I just so happened to tell him, which is how they realized. NO ONE ASKED. Even the receptionist at the front desk apologized and said that should they should have told me previously to have my medical records. But that wasn't even what made me give the low rating. The fact is that they were able to get my records from my previous dentist TEN MINUTES after I gave them the number and you're telling me the doctor could no longer see me and I have to make a new appointment for another day. No my review still stands and it looks like you have other low ratings you need to cater to. read more

Here is my thing. I originally went in for a consultation for dental implant, root canal and possibly might want veneers as long as my cosmetic grant covered enough. Of course they wanted to give me a song and dance of how I needed this and that. I said let's just do the implant and root cananl as the root canal I was in dire need. I called up to let them know and they proceeded to to tell me they will call my insurance. Three weeks later they come back with the answer that included my dental implants that i must of told them twenty times that's is not what I need. So bottom line customer service is not on point and I had to go to another dentist who wound up listening to what I want and working with me! Waste of time! read more

The dental technician(the lady with the dreadlocks) needs to learn how to work with children. She maide my son cry while taking his x-rays. He was clearly gagging and getting teary-eyed from her stuffing the dental sensor (film) into his mouth. I had to tell her to give my son a few minutes to relax again because he was literally in tears. And she kept telling him I would wait outside if he didn't do it right and she actually Told me to leave the room and wait outside. Of course I told her I would do no such thing and stood in the room with my son. She also did a poor job securing the metal apron on him before taking his x-rays. I had to fix it. She really needs to be more sensitive and patient when dealing with children. And more thorough when prepping for x-rays. She gets no stars!!! Thankfully, the dentist was more friendly and welcoming. Dr. Kimon was amazing and thorough with examining my son. He put him at ease and was very patient with him. He let us know step-by-step what he was going to do and praised him for doing a great job with his teeth. Kudos to him for a job well done! I went to this place for about two years, and I've had many negative experiences. Today, I finally called it quits. Two examples of their unprofessionalism. At my first appointment, the doctor scraped a set enamel veneers off my teeth WITHOUT TELLING ME FIRST. When I got out of the chair, I was shocked to find my veneers removed. When I confronted the doctor about it, he simply shrugged his shoulders and said, "They needed to be removed." When I asked why he did not request my permission before removing expensive dental work from my teeth, he again shrugged and said, "Those veneers needed to be replaced." It didn't seem to occur to him that I might want to have a say in my own dental health. When I complained to the office manager about it, she denied even knowing that I had veneers in the first place. Of course, since they have all the records, I had no way to prove my case, and I ended up having to pay several hundred dollars to replace the veneers they removed without my permission. Because I'm easygoing to a fault, I was foolish enough to stick with these people for a couple more years. But today, they canceled my annual tooth cleaning THREE HOURS BEFORE MY SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. They said their dental hygienists were on vacation. When I asked them why they didn't inform me earlier, since the scheduling conflict seemed entirely foreseeable, they claimed to have left several messages on my phone. My call log shows only one call from them all week, and even then they did not leave a message. Only today did they leave a message explaining the situation. When I told the receptionist that having to reschedule would be an inconvenience and that I would at least like an apology for the disruption to my schedule, she kept trying to turn the situation around and blame it on me. This is the part I truly cannot stand: after cancelling my appointment at the last minute, they tried to blame me for their own unprofessionalism. When I asked to speak to the office manager, she at least recognized that maybe it would be a good idea to apologize for the inconvenience. But when I pressed her on why I hadn't been informed earlier, she again went back to the same false story that they had left several messages and it was my fault for not calling back. She had absolutely no concern about finding out what really happened, no concern with discovering the truth so that she could improve the efficiency of her office, no concern with improving customer service. She just wanted to blame the patient for her office's screw-ups. From their other reviews, it appears that they're fond of blaming their patients for their own lack of professionalism. (Check out their reply to Chanel S on 10/31/2016, for instance.) If you're willing to put up with a disorganized, unprofessional office space, and if you're willing to risk having expensive dental work removed from your teeth WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION, and if you're willing to have them blame you for their mistakes, then by all means, go to Westside Dental Associates. On the other hand, if you like a dentist's office that communicates clearly, that asks for your permission before performing drastic procedures, and that takes responsibility for their mistakes, I strongly suggest that you go somewhere else. read more

I was referred to this office through my health insurance, who said they were in-network. I made the appt. over 1 month ago and gave them my insurance info. Never having heard from them to confirm my upcoming appt., I called them this morning, right before my appt. They stated there was a problem with my insurance. I asked why they never called me to let me know and they said they tried. Turns out one of their dyslexic employees transposed a few of the numbers in my phone number, so they had the incorrect number on file. When I arrived for the appt., they told me they were out-of-network for my plan and have been for the past 2 years. I explained that the insurance company specifically said they were in-network and I called the company while I was there to verify this fact. I was told that the office was, in fact, in-network and handed the phone to the receptionist, who proceeded to contradict the insurance company. Needless to say, they refused to see me unless I paid out of pocket, so I left. What a complete waste of my time and I waited over a month for the appt. You think if they were off an insurance company's panel, the insurance company would've corrected their list sometime during the last 2 years. Maybe they haven't been too happy with the reimbursement, so they refuse to see people on the plan. They should make sure they're off the plan first. Bunch of losers. So I have been wanting to get bonding or composite veneers for some time. I was researching and came across this dental grant program, I applied out of curiosity. It turned out to be a referral company that referred me to this place. So I just went. Front desk staff is super nice. After X-rays I saw the dentist. By far the worst experience ive had. He immediately told me that he doesn't do composite or bonds (which is ok but I was very clear on what I wanted from the time i applied for this alleged grant and when I completed paperwork with the front desk) he told me I wasn't a good candidate for composite veneers and tried to talk me into shaving my teeth down and getting porcelain veneers. I literally just wanted to close a gap and Fix white spots on my teeth because my teeth are already super straight. The worst part was when he said something misleading about the lifespan of porcelain veneers. Of course porcelain veneers last longer than composite veneers, but if I didn't know better, based on how he strategically words things I would think he was implying that porcelain veneers last forever. This place does seem more concerned with taking your money than maintaining the integrity of your smile. I went to another dentist in TriBeCa this week who does composite veneers and actually didn't even want to cover my teeth with bonds bc I have a good smile, let alone shave perfectly healthy teeth ! What a different experience. The easiest and ethical thing to do would have been to simply say sorry we don't offer this service, is there anything else you would need help with? Preferably that conversation should have taken place telephonically before scheduling someone for a consultation. read more

I have notoriously crooked and problematic teeth that need a lot of work. A handful of NYC dentists worked on my mouth between 1983 and 2006. One day I asked a co-worker who had done this beautiful veneer work on her teeth and she told me about Dr. Ayzenberg. A good way to describe this highly skilled dentist is this: I now live and work in New Jersey and have replaced my physicians, however I would not even think of replacing my dentist.
