NYC Dental Professionals and Dr Mark Kogan have been reliably cleaning my teeth for the last 10 years. They recently changed their Manhattan offices (56th between Park and Lex) and I thought I'd come back here for an update. I adore the hygienist Kaylin, who is thorough, gentle, conversational without being gossipy, and has a phenomenal memory. She's honest and kind with her feedback and just a joyful person to be around. My teeth always feel cleaner with no discomfort. Never leave, please. Dr Kogan is fantastic, warm and straightforward. Dr DeVito is also great, quick to answer questions and provide reassurance. Both have excellent bedside manner, are professional, and easy to talk to. Also, everyone here has impeccable smiles. I get a text every six months reminding me to schedule a cleaning, and I can reliably get an appointment at a convenient time within a week. The office staff are organized and responsive. Bad admin can wreck a good doctor's or dentist's practice. That could happen here. I searched reviews and thought this place sounded good. I had an urgent dental condition and tried to book a consultation with Dr Kogan. But the dumb little know-nothing-at-all who answered the fone was obstructive. He said WRONGLY, that since I had a consultation 4 months ago, I could only have one there if I gave him $150. I said that was not so. He asked me if I thought I knew more about insurance than he did. I said I was positive I did (because I DO!). He was unconvinced. I called my insurance co. They called him and did he back off! But he said that the trouble was only that the earliest they could see me was 2.5 months in the future. He knew that timeframe would not suit me and I knew he was mealy-mouthing my insurance co. Doorknobs like this believe if they know one thing about your insurance plan that all the plans are the same and you couldn't know anything because they know everything. They refuse to even call the insurance co, to make sure. Why do they get to keep their jobs if they can't do them right? read more

Nothing professional about this place. I apologize for leaving this review under this Dr's name, but there is no Yelp for the main practice. The only pleasant part was the first young lady at the desk (with braids). She was polite, sweet and kind. She handed me the paperwork to fill out and I let her know that I had to contact my dentist at MSK again because I don't think they sent my xrays. Then the real receptionist came in and it went downhill from there. This woman was incredibly rude and condescending. Not just to me, but to another patient. She kept asking me did I give MSK the right email address, and I confirmed 3 times I did, even stated I just called them 10 minutes ago. She still kept asking me If I gave them the right info. Girl, take several seats. Im not your child, and more than likely Im way more intelligent than you. Ive done my part, so talking down to me, is not going to change the fact that the Dental Assistant at MSK still didnt send the xrays. Then while Im in the chair, she comes in and again starts up with did you give them the right email address. Then she interrogates me, when did you have your xrays? last year? NO, I had it done Feb 17, 2022. She wanted to find any reason to make me look stupid, not going to happen. Then I'm speaking with the dentist. She can't do anything without xrays. Fair enough. I wanted to discuss dental options as I have had alot of teeth pulled when I was younger by abusive, predatory dentists in Harlem. I don't want to lose anymore teeth and would like to discuss what services they provide. Well she kept saying she cant answer unless she looks at my xrays. So you can't tell me what services you provide unless you see my xrays? Round and round we go. I wound up walking out. I spent the past 3 years at MSKCC battling leukemia. I never realized how rare quality, kind, medical professionals are until I had to get service outside of MSKCC. No one wants to go to a medical setting and be treated like they are an idiot and garbage. I am writing this review so its on record that no services were rendered. I would not allow them to take xrays because i already had them and don't want to be hit with a crazy fraudulent bill. Also of note was how this rude receptionist in scrubs talked to another customer. First of all, there is no reason why I should hear his private information while Im sitting in the waiting room. Then she seemed delighted at the fact that he would have to pay almost 5k out of pocket for root canal (after his insurance covered it). He was asking for options and her response was "it is what it is". Cold, callous. I wrote a note and gave it to him with reference to Youtube videos making your own toothpaste and remineralization. There are ways to repair your teeth without dealing with financial hardship and humiliation. I have managed medical practices and work in the health and fitness industry. Never have nor would I treat people the way they do here. No one should put up with this. If you feel you arent treated with decency and respect, leave. Report them to your insurance company and let others know. Bad behavior should not be rewarded. read more

I've been with Dr. Kogan for as long as I've been with my employer (10+ years) and only have great things to say. He's always calm, gentle and straightforward. I've been seeing Dr. Kogan for a few years now and he's great! Cailin has been my hygienist for a year now and she is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!!! Cailin is very professional, detail oriented, and kind . She's so pleasant to talk with too. Took a star off because it's a pain in the ass to schedule appointments if you don't schedule it in person ahead of time during your visit. The lady at the front desk is super nice so that's a plus! Not sure who manages the emails but they are terrible!! There are times where I've specifically stated the time and date I want and they actually put me down for something completely different. Overall, all of my visits have been great! read more

I am sorry to write this under Dr's name but I believe he should know how his practice is being run. I do not know if he is aware of this or not. Writing this review to caution present and future patients. Please ask for cost breakdown before receiving ANY treatment or consultation. They will charge you "whatever they want" if a procedure is not covered by your insurance. My insurance covered the cost of my consultation but I was still charged $50 for it in office. They actually charged me $100 saying it was for a consultation with a specialist and then changed their script, saying $50 of the $100 was for the 2D imagery taken. I am sure they sent that picture out to be analyzed but my insurance said it should've been $24 as the agreed amount but the office said they can charge "whatever they want". Front desk receptionist I spoke to over the phone was unfortunately very unpleasant when I expressed that I would have preferred to go over costs of my procedure (my insurance statement showed $40 as my patient responsibility whereas the office quoted me at $640 for an additional procedure they would do). My insurance representative called them about the $24 2D image and expressed to me that the front desk staff member was beyond rude and advised me to seek treatment elsewhere. I want to give the benefit of the doubt that it was an off day for him. The dental hygienist that I had the opportunity to receive a cleaning from was beyond kind and careful. An absolute shame that they are not transparent about pricing. They credited me back $50 with no apology and seemingly grudgingly. A new update is that I requested for a receipt so that I could use my medical spending account. Received no response for 4 months and. I had also called the office multiple times for them to tell me that they will email it. Called today again and they said they have not received any emails which I have all the receipts of. Finally got my receipt which stated a cost of $26. They originally charged me $100, then begrudgingly refunded me $50. There is a discrepancy of $24. There is absolutely no integrity. I never liked going to the dentist but I actually enjoy coming here. The receptionists at the front desk are such a delight. It's always nice seeing them and chatting with them. Stephanie did a zoom teeth whitening treatment for me and was so kind and took her time explaining each step beforehand. It was the first time I had a professional whitening that was pain free and even relaxing! I had a cleaning two weeks ago (I believe her name was Cailyn who did the cleaning) and she was so gentle, friendly etc. She made the visit an enjoyable experience. Found Dr. Kogan via this site actually. The staff was extremely friendly even though I was a little late (bad weather). It was easy to communicate and make an appointment - they respond to e-mails promptly. They took their time cleaning my teeth and everyone was very nice and accommodating, including Dr. Kogan himself. They gave me a little to-go baggie with toothpaste, brush and floss - it was cute. So far so good with the Dr. himself and one person behind the receptionist desk. I usually hate the dentist-- I've had the worst experiences. So I found this place and booked with the greatest intentions. Upon arrival the first receptionist was snarky and immediately gave me attitude. I was about ten minutes late and I was greeted with "wow, you're really really late" Umm okay, sorry for being late but hi to you too?? This is how new patients are greeted... weird. I immediately asked what my time was scheduled for, being I was late. I explained I must have put it in my phone incorrectly. She said I didn't answer confirmations or anything. I felt this was weird since I didn't receive any calls, emails, or texts to confirm my appointment. If I had, I'm sure I would have been on time. Nonetheless, I proceeded with the check in process after a wonderful woman behind the counter saw I was extremely uncomfortable and helped me out. She started to let me know it's okay and it will be figured out. After this I was hesitant on seeing the Dr. To my surprise he was extremely nice and comforting. When everything was all said and done, I had to book for other things. Again, I had to encounter the rude receptionist. I honestly just wanted to leave and avoid her at all costs. read more

Needed a new dentist in NYC and Dr. Kogan was in-network. Headed over to Yelp and was surprised that a dentist with good reviews was available. I was able to make an appointment within the week. Check-in was a breeze. The front office worker (male) was polite and quick. Once I completed my paperwork, I was seen by the very nice dental hygienist who took my x-rays and did the actual cleaning. She was friendly without being too chatty. I dislike when they try to make conversations when I have multiple items in my mouth! Another dentist (not Dr. Kogan) came in to review my teeth and x-rays. I was leery due to other reviews here, but he found no cavities and didn't recommend any additional work. Upon leaving, I was given a loot bag with a new toothbrush, floss and toothpaste. I was literally in and out in 45 minutes. I'd totally recommend this office to anyone in search of a new dentist. read more

I usually don't like going to the dentist, but NYC Dental Professionals has changed that experience for me. I searched for months to find one that I liked, but then had a sudden tooth pain and feel lucky to have found Dr. Kogan. From the first call with Doris, they were willing to see me right away and work with my insurance that would normally need more notice to select a provider. I was in the next day and they made me feel calm, reassured, and never rushed. Marilyn is a wonderful technician and I find her prescence relaxing and she's fun to talk to! And Dr. Kogan himself is very calming and reassuring, with a wonderful bedside manner. He works efficiently and I've never felt like I've had work done that I didn't need. I've even gone to Dr. DeVito on a day that Dr. Kogan wasn't in and his work was very good too and he's very nice. I had a crown fall out from a different provider and they were able to fit me in that morning when I called. I've never had to wait a very long time for an appointment and as far as I can tell after a year of going there, their work holds up! I never feel like I'm being sold on a product, service or something extra. In fact, when I was going away on vacation and was nervous that my temporary would fall out, they gave me a sample of cement, just in case to fix it myself until I returned. Luckily, I never needed it but that was very thoughtful. Recently, my boyfriend had a dental emergency and they offered to see him the next morning, even though he wasn't an existing patient. They made him feel comfortable and confident and he would definitely return. We're both incredibly selective about doctors, so that says a lot! I just had a mouth guard fitting and their prices are very reasonable. Their office is clean, welcoming and in a very cool building itself with a Deco style. I still instincively get nervous about any work being done in my mouth, but they've made me feel as comfortable as I've felt with any dentist in my life. I can't praise this office enough. I went to them with a pretty complicated dental issue and not the best insurance. Erika, the office manager worked tirelessly to get my procedure covered when other dentists just laughed at me and tried to charge my card. Now about Dr. Kogan: he is one of the gentlest and most professional dentists I've ever met, I feel so lucky to have found him (and Erika) I'd seen 3 other dentists for opinions before and they all just wanted to over charge and sell me on procedures I didn't need. Dr. Kogan gave me my options and was only concerned with what was best for me, never trying to up sell. In the end, they made sure I was well taken care of with a root canal by their specialist and a beautiful crown by Dr. Kogan. I called the office on Friday due to a tooth that they did work on a couple of months ago. The front of my tooth slide off and it looks terrible and is jagged. Someone was suppose to call me to confirm my appt, as they have not ever missed before, no one called! On Monday I called (as I am at work) to confirm the time, one receptionist answered the phone and kindly transferred a lady on the phone was so rude, I have never! I told that her that I wanted to confirm time as they did not call me. The receptionist lied and said they did, a LIE. They she kept saying "it's and emergency right!" over and over, Crazy... I calmy said yes.. the tooth he worked on slid off so then she just said next week. I guess she thinks she is teaching me a lesson. Low class. So excited (but slightly nervous - don't want him to become impossible to get an appointment with) to be the first reviewer for Dr. Kogan. People, I am scared shitless of the dentist. Like, irrationally so. Snakes, fine. Jumping of cliffs, cool. Kidney surgery, yup, tackled that. Dentist - oh HELL no. Anyiruntheotherwaywheniseeadrill, it had been at least two years since my last visit to the dentist, so needless to say I was pretty petrified and embarrassed to roll up with what I feared would be a mouthful of cavities and four very unhappy wisdom teeth. Although Dr Kogan confirmed my suspicions, instead of scaring the crap out of me like other dentists usually do, he did an awesome job of reassuring me - while still conveying the necessary urgency - that my wisdom teeth extraction and cavity fillings would be pretty hassle and pain-free. I pretty much gave him the side-eye, thanked him, and left, and scheduled two appointments - one for fillings, and one for the wisdom teeth. Happy to report I just had my cavities filled today, and they were hands-down the easiest, most pain-free fillings I have ever gotten. Dr Kogan explained everything to me as he went, and I swear to the Gods of Dentia that I even fell asleep for a while. Oh, and if that isn't enough to make you go, the lovely woman the reception desk FAXED me an entire report of exactly what I would be paying for every single thing I had and would be having done, down to each type of filling in each tooth. She HAND-WROTE the math (subtracting procedure cost from insurance payment), and calculated my total out-of pocket cost for me. And THEN, she called me to walk me through everything and make sure I understood it. Seriously, go see Dr Kogan right now. Took me 4 years but I think I finally found a dentist I want to keep! I had a dentist before but after every visit I suddenly had a root canal that needed to be done. Needless to say poor choice of dentist results in too many cavities later on! I was distrustful of its location - certain that nothing of any value exists in Times Square. I was very wrong! Dr. Kogan is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and explains everything well. He seems to really care about the well-being of you & your teeth. The staff is friendly. And one of the best things about him & his staff? Their use of technology! I get email reminders, email follow ups about the cost of my work on my teeth, text message reminders (soooo useful) etc. I love it! Works great with my lifestyle. Been there twice for a lot of work - I'm too embarrassed to even say it - and he even had to fix something my last dentist messed up on - had a great experience (as one can with a face full of Novocaine) and will be going to see him regularly for check ups!! The office is clean and modern, but most importantly, Dr. Kogan does not invent unnecessary dental work to make money off of you. He gave me an extremely thorough cleaning on my first visit which was great and confirmed that I have great teeth that don't require any dental work. My experience here was probably the most painless and efficient doctor's office visit since I moved to NYC, so that speaks volumes! My appointment was on time, and I was in & out of there in about 40 minutes for a routine check up, teeth cleaning, and x-rays. First, the intake/flow process was straightforward. I was asked to download, print, and complete 6 pages of paperwork prior to my initial visit, or arrive 15-20 minutes earlier to fill them out at the office. No sweat, since all offices require filling out medical history at some point, but I appreciate the options to streamline the process. Once the paperwork was turned into the front desk, I was called into the examination room in less than 5 minutes. The technician who took my teeth x-rays was courteous and told me exactly what was happening at each "take" of x-rays. Since I work in healthcare as well, I appreciate the effort to let the patient know what was happening at each step. Dr. Kogan then came in, introduced himself, asked me if I had any other concerns with my pearly whites, and started cleaning my teeth. Normally, this is the time when I secretly dig my fingers into each other, scrunch up my face, close my eyes, and try to think about cotton candy/other happy things while counting the seconds until it's over - however, Dr. Kogan somehow made this so tolerable that I actually opened my eyes a few times to see what was happening. I rinsed my mouth twice, and both times there was no bleeding when I spit out the rinse. Lastly, he took a look at my teeth x-rays, told me his recommendations, and shook my hand goodbye. On my way out, I was informed that I will get an email and/or text alert when my next cleaning is due, and got a dental goodie bag. The front desk also gave me a brief overview of my dental benefits for future references - an effort much appreciated! Yelp! Why don't you allow us to zero-rate the service providers, because that's exactly what I wish to do here. Let me help you readers with my experiences to aid your decision making process: - I booked an appointment over the phone and to say that office manager lady is rude would be an understatement - I reach his office five minutes before the scheduled appointment (thankfully..will explain later) and filled in a form. The rude office manager walks in for the day late and hands over another set of forms to be filled! - one of the form is a declaration that a fee of 50 dollars will be charged for not showing up on time since "doctors time is precious" - I had booked an appointment to get my veneer re-fixed (which was made by another dentist) a small task wondering how can anyone go wrong with that! But I was wrong - the job done is absolutely amateurish. My bite doesn't seem right and the teeth collide! - I had an insurance on me but the office manager lady didn't accept it saying it's not listed on it. So I was made to pay the fees upfront with an assurance that someone else who takes care of the insurance will call me back to let me know if the amount can be settled via insurance and I would get a refund. It's been three days now- no call! - the next morning when I called again to express my disappointment about the veneer being fixed the same office manager started howling at me as if I had asked for credit at a corner bodega!!! Her exact words were "but the veneer was created by someone else..we just pasted it"...she had no authority to comment on the process and the least she could have done is put me on call with the doctor. - I would have looked through all the irritations of dealing with the front office lady as long as the dentist job was done well..unfortunately that didn't happen either and now I am stuck with a badly fixed veneer! I would never ever visit again - even if it was for free read more

He had been my dentist for over a year. I've recommended him to several people who've also found him to be great! Dr. Kogan does great work:). However, the front desk woman could learn a thing or two about customer service. She's not all that friendly. Also, she told me that she would put my name on a list for sooner appointments. That was in May. I never received a call and it's now July. Alas, I no longer have dental insurance. However, I plan on reactivating my coverage. At which time, I'll probably be shopping around for another dentist because of her. Additionally, although it's only a few avenues from where I live, I don't particularly like fighting through the crowds in Time Square. So, I'm not too fond of the location. I'd recommend him a hundred times because he's a great dentist but I would have no choice but to include these caveats. read more
