Ok, I admit - the dentist office is not my favorite place to go but everyone that works here is friendly and that makes it tolerable. I am surprised at the other reviews. This has not been my experience at all. Dr. D Klein has been here for years and now his son has joined the practice. You can request either one. The father is gentler, takes his time a bit more. The son has a great chair side manner as well but moves a bit quicker and pulls just a bit harder. I don't go nearly enough. I will be the first to say it but the hygienists that clean my teeth have an artful way of letting me know that I should come more often without making me feel like a complete ass. They don't scold, but they do show care and concern for the health of my mouth. I have been coming here on and off for over 10 years so I cannot speak to their equipment being old because I don't have anything to compare it to. I have seen several updates in those years. They have upgraded to digital X-Rays which speeds up the process tremendously from where it was 10 years ago. The office is always clean. read more

Disgusting service. I called to schedule an appointment and I was put on hold for more than five minutes! After a rude exchange with the secretary, I'm more than happy to say that they lost a client. Dr. Klein has been the most ethical doctor I have visited in NYC. He will not try to steal your money or diagnose things for his benefit. He genuinely cares about his paciente. Also, the office staff is very nice and they speak Spanish and English. I have performed multiple procedures at his office and they have always gone seamlessly. He is great at putting anesthesia, you won't even notice. That's how amazing he is! The office is not one of those top state of the art but everything is very clean and simple. read more

This was my first appointment with Dr. Klein. I got there a little early to fill out the new patient paperwork which I finished before my 12:30 appointment time. The hygienist came to get me as soon as I was done. I was actually taken early! The hygienist was very nice and did a thorough job. Dr. Klein addressed my few concerns and was chatty (in a good way). Additionally, I've never been to a doctor's office with nicer, more friendly receptionists. I was in and out in just about an hour (which was perfect since I was on a lunch break from work). I agree with what the other reviewers have written --- his office is in need of a major update, including new tools and dental technologies. His general strategy is to start drilling before taking x-rays, or discussing the treatment with you. Worse than that though, he did shoddy work on one of my teeth, resulting in further decay, and ultimately a root canal. He filled a back molar for me (#2), and almost immediately after the anesthesia wore off, it hurt. It hurt me for weeks, and I went back in to his office and complained. I'd had fillings before and this never happened. He just told me, in so many words, that I was being a wimp. About a year later, that filling broke off, and the decay had spread into the soft tissue. When Dr. Klein saw the damage, it was clear that I needed a root canal, but he didn't refer me to a specialist, he just said to come back another day when he had an hour, rather than the half hour he'd scheduled for me. In the mean time, he left me with a shoddy and painful temporary filling, that was progressively crumbling in my mouth. I've since had a much better experience with a new dentist, who referred me immediately to an endodontist for a root canal. Endodontists have two extra years of training and use special equipment like a surgical microscope, so they get much better results. The endodontist who did my root canal found a fourth, hidden root canal, that would have been invisible to the naked eye. He also spent 90 minutes with me since my tooth offered particular challenges. Though obviously I didn't go through with Dr. Klein's proposed treatment, I'm guessing I would not have gotten the same level of painlessness, care, and results as the highly-recommended specialist gave me. read more

I've been going to Dr. Jason Klein (the son) for 16 years, which should speak to his abilities. He is a complete master at his craft and has fixed a few problems I've had from previous dentists with a much more robust, aesthetically pleasing and long lasting fix. His technical abilities are exceptional and I've never experienced any pain during any of my operations, including several root canals and crowns. The dental assistants and staff are also clearly very experienced and professional. In addition to their perfect execution and competencies, they are all very friendly and seemingly always in a good mood and genuinely like to know how you are doing. The whole operation is run like clockwork and I will be a lifer here. read more

I am so saddened by my experience with this entire dental office. I have only had pleasant experiences with pretty much every doctor I've been to until now, including dentists., yet somehow this office managed to have everyone who works there offend me. The dentist himself got on the phone to personally insult me, as well. Basically, I am relatively new to NY and called over a month ago to schedule an appointment for a new Dentist to have him look at my cavities. (I had seen my previous dentist in CT for a cleaning a couple months ago, and they told me I had cavities, but they're no longer on my plan). So I waited a month for this appointment only to find that they scheduled the wrong type of appointment for me where they would only do a cleaning. They wouldn't admit any fault or help me reschedule, but instead grew angrier and angrier eventually telling me to find a new dentist. I called back explaining the story to someone else, basically begging for an appointment since it's a whole song and dance to change my primary dentist, and they gave me a huge attitude, then put the dentist on the phone... I calmly explained to him the misunderstanding that I waited a month with cavities for this appointment, and I'd just like to reschedule for as soon as possible, and then HE told me to find a new dentist! They basically passed the phone to everyone in the office to tell me they don't care and they're not going to help. Very sad. If they are anything working on your mouth like they are on the phone, it should be a pretty painful experience :( read more

I have been to this dentist office for many years before moving out of town. They took my insurance and I was decently covered. The staff has always been helpful and efficient. The cleaning was always done well and thoroughly, with the dentist (Jason or David) systematically making an examination of the teeth. However, for anything above cavities work, I would not recommend this office. I had a root canal and a crown made there by Dr Jason but it did not last more than 6 years. It was done too quickly. Dr Jason rushed to complete the work and probably used a few shortcuts in order to do it within a limited time frame. I understand that insurance companies are squeezing doctors but I would have preferred to see a endodontist to do such root canal. The dentists I had afterwards do that systematically. They are specialized, do that all day long, and are properly equipped for such work. Now I have to do more work on this tooth, probably an extraction then an implant! Money and time wasted. read more

My experience was ok, but I've never been to such a shoddy office. All of the equipment looked old, and out of date. The fluoride treatment was done haphazardly, and nurse seemed surprised when I gagged on their old equipment. Not a nice environment, and not a friendly scene. With a little looking, I'm sure you can find someplace better. read more

Receptionists are generally rather rude, one going so far as to lecture me about punctuality when I said I called to say I was running a few minutes late. I ended up just canceling the appointment because I was irked by her tone. Maybe the problem is less my tardiness and more the receptionists are always cramming the appointment book so that no one gets more than 15 minutes and the doctor is always rushing (had another dentist who did an extraction a week after my last appointment with the younger Klein tell me that a cavity was missed during an exam. Really?). How are you going to do a proper cleaning for anyone in 15 minutes? Glad to be moving away and away from this office. read more

Not happy with the work done with crowns. First, it was not necessary (they detected a "microfracture" when it was a healthy tooth) then the work was rushed and not well done. I had to go for a root canal at another place as a consequence of the work done by David. The place needs an update. The front desk staff is very nice. The deep cleaning by Jason was excellent. And regular cleaning is good too. Cavities' work was good too. nothing to say about that. read more

I will not be returning to Dr Klein's office due to a very bad experience on my second and several subsequent visits. I had two cavities that needed to be filled. As you may know, you can opt for either metal or a ceramic/composite filling. The dentist himself did not say a word about these options, but the receptionist/hygienist explained that the only difference was the color that someone would see if they were to peer deep into your open mouth, but the composite is twice as expensive. I asked her to confirm that these are the ONLY differences, and she did. So of course I went with the less expensive metal filling. Fast forward two weeks to the evening after the fillings were completed. One of them suddenly POPS out of my mouth as I'm brushing my teeth, leaving a huge, gaping, painful hole in my tooth! I make an emergency appointment, and when I arrive, the dentist condescendingly tells me something to the effect of, "Oh, that's why we always recommend the composite filling, because it is more stable, less painful, and we don't have to drill away nearly as much of your actual tooth." OH REALLY? This would have been great to know sooner, like maybe WHEN I EXPLICITLY ASKED FOR THIS VERY INFORMATION. So now I am sitting here, having had unnecessarily large holes drilled in my teeth, having had to take extra time off work, having another bill to pay due to the extra procedure, and everyone is talking down to me like it's my own damn fault for what, believing the receptionist? Did they expect me to shoot her down and demand to speak to the dentist again? That said, at least everyone was more or less polity, so I didn't make a big deal about it in the office; it's not like they could un-drill my tooth. But I never expected to get such shoddy treatment from a medical professional. I think this office is just phoning it in because they have a solid base of very old clientele. My recommendation-- leave them to that and find a practice that gives a damn. read more

I have been going to the senior Dr Klein for decades, and now occasionally see his son, Jason. They are both excellent dentists and on the rare occasion I've had to see another dentist, like for surgery or an implant, I've actually gotten compliments on my dental work! Letter speaks for itself. he's to fast and too sloppy..In my opinion, wouldn't usde him ever again and he never responded to the letter! Important & Confidential Dear Dr. Klein, I recently had a minor problem with the crown that you fabricated and made for me several years ago. If you review your records of correspondence you will note that we had some problems with it from the beginning and it had to be remade and reinstalled at least twice. According to the dentist who provided a service to re-cement it temporarily in place, he didn't think it was a serious situation other than maybe the cement used wasn't an adequate amount or possibly wore off. He stated that there was hardly any residual cement or debris in the area and also, didn't see anything apparent or visibly abnormal. However, he believed that the permanent re-cement should be applied by the original dentist as he didn't want to have that responsibility, because he didn't perform the original service. I am sure that to remove it, inspect the area, clean and re-cement permanently will not take too much time and I would like to come in at your convenience any day or time I am available. As you know I am just a few blocks away and the appointment could be when someone else cancels, as this sometimes can work for me. Not recommended. He did some dental work for me which immediately caused me pain and basically ridiculed me when I tried to bring it up. When I asked how long I should wait before getting concerned he said "I don't know, 6 months?". Definitely do not recommend unless you are on a budget and just need a cavity filled. Dr. Klein, (father AND son) are excellent dentists. I have been going to this practice for years, and like all people they can have busier days, and can be focused a little more on me or a little less. But I have always received very nice treatment from staff and doctors, always been seen in 15 minutes or less, and, most importantly, they have done excellent dental work. In response to a previous post, Dr. Klein actually is very good at root canals and I have had more than one performed by him. He has also sent me to endontists, if needed, when a tooth is particularly complex (I have learned far more than I ever wanted to about how difficult root canals can be). I trust them both with my teeth and billing (I have experienced weird insurance practices, rudeness, and shaky hands in other dental offices) and this will always be my first stop for the care of my teeth. read more

I've had a great experience with Dr. David and his son Dr. Jason. My appointments always start on time, and they get me in and out quickly. I never feel like they're trying to upsell me whitening or convince me I need things I don't. The nurses are also very nice and down-to-earth. The office and facilities are on the older side, but I don't see this as a major problem -- it feels very clean. I would recommend them. read more

Do NOT take your children to this office. Dr Klein (senior) has very poor people skills, particularly with children. My child's permanent teeth had come in early and we went in to have them checked and also for a cleaning. She was already nervous and was crying during the cleaning, even though the hygienist was good. By the time Dr Klein saw her, he blurted out that she is going to need her baby teeth pulled and will end up needing braces. My daughter began to bawl and became inconsolable. Dr Klein had no tact about the matter and could have approached the situation very differently. My 5 year old daughter is now terrified of dentists! read more

A crown fell off and I rushed in there-- the elder Klein could have told me I needed costly work done for a new crown and I would have accepted that because I don't know any better but instead he popped the old one back on. I have had extensive work done at Dr Klein's office, and I am very pleased with his work. I have a crown which was done by Dr Klein. I have eight veneers on my upper front teeth, and 6 crowns on my front lower teeth, all done by Dr Klein. I have a brand new smile that I really love. My friends cannot believe the transformation that Dr Klein has provided me with. He explained to me in detail what the work would consist of, and what the time frame would be. He answered all questions and was very polite & professional during all visits. His great work & personality makes me a repeat patient. I have recommended Dr Klein to friends, too. The only problem I can think of is the fact that I did not meet Dr Klein sooner.
