STAY FAR AWAY! When I first went to expert Dental i was thrilled. I had read a lot of reviews and when I went in for my initial root canal consultation my doctor was young but knowledgeable. I had read a lot of reviews about doctor hsueh and wanted to stay away from her and was thrilled I hadnt gotten her assigned to me. When i went back for the actual root canal the initial doctor that I had consulted with was no longer with the dental office. They gave me Dr hsueh. I asked for someone else but they pushed me and said she was the only one available for the days I needed. I should have walked away right then. She proceeded on my root canal. She was nice enough. Unfortunately, half way through she told me that my gums were too high and i needed to come back for a crown lengthening surgery. If you don't know what this is let me tell you. Its helll. They slotted an appointment with the surgeon, also head of the office, Dr Kas. He was amazing. He did the surgery and very little pain. The crown lengthening surgery is when your root canal is too deep and way below the gum line they need to remove a ton of gum and some bone. It takes weeks for your mouth to recover and is exceptionally expensive. I had the surgery and then after an insanely painful recovery they were ready to do finalize the crown. They did and Dr Hsueh drilled and filed teeth next to the root canal tooth to the extent I felt in my mouth like wth did she do- why is this tooth next to it so rounded. why is she drilling and rounding teeth that dont need to be touched?! However,I left it alone and trusted the process. Im not the dentist right? Finally the crown was ordered and placed in. The first crown she placed she filed down way too short. The second broke. YES BROKE! in my mouth the same day. i believe she broke it placing it in and then when i went back in to fix it the tech insinuated they are hard as a diamond and for the life of them they couldn't understand how this occurred, I can tell you how...your doctor is crap and did this placing it in. Because yeah...I def broke it because I have a thing for dentists...of course....its my hobby to break my own expensive false teeth. NO! I heard a pop when she first inserted it. And, sure enough,it was broken when I arrived home less than an hour after. Back in the next week and guess what- because she had messed up multiple times my healing gums had grown over so I needed ANOTHER crown lengthening surgery sicne my gums had healed and were growing back up again. Another painful surgery with a horribly painful healing process in order for the crown to fit again. So they proceeded to do it. Dr Kas...once again- wonderful who gleefully said he would be careful not to mess up my smile. Which btw was beautiful and has been a signature of mine for my entire life. Funny how jokes can come to reality. Post surgery weeks later I was once again fitted for a crown- more drilling. Dr Hsueh told me that Dr Kas has stated the week before that if this one was not successful to just yank to whole thing out and implant. It was the tyope of convo where it was clear that was not for my ears. It horrified me, particularly because she was the one messing it up repeatedly. This time the crown stayed in. However, the bite was off and I can still to this day barely pronounce s's correctly. It has been about a year and it hurts me EVERY SINGLE DAY. There is SO much space between the crown and other teeth that I can't eat a single thing without food getting stuck up underneath and literally hurting me so bad that I have to carry around dental floss that sometimes doesn't get it out for hours do to all the "space" left in between teeth. My bite has been off for a year and my smile is NOT the same as it was. it honestly breaks my heart. So why haven't I gone back for them to fix it you ask? Because I can't stand the thought of another painful crown lengthening surgery. the blood, the horrible pain. So I am living day to day with a messed up crown and pain instead. I really should sue expert dental :(. Stay far FAR away. Oh and I paid CASH for this entire experience. read more

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with Expert Dental, and I would never recommend this office to anyone. I truly felt taken advantage of, and once they received their payment through Care Credit, they no longer seemed to care. My situation was time-sensitive--I needed periodontal surgery before my health insurance coverage ended. The office informed me that verifying coverage with my insurance could take a while and that if I wanted to proceed, I would need to pay the full cost upfront, which was around $8,000. Since I didn't have that amount readily available, they suggested financing through Alphaeon Care Credit. I was hesitant, but they assured me that if I agreed, they would give me a discount and refund any insurance reimbursements back to my account. Months passed, and I never received any update from the office regarding my insurance claim. When I contacted my insurance company, they told me they had reached out to the office for additional information, but the office never responded. After persistent follow-ups, I finally got in touch with the office and spoke with Rubina, who informed me that my insurance had only covered $170 of the entire procedure. At this point, I contacted my insurance myself. After their investigation, it turned out that Expert Dental had incorrectly coded the procedure. The office then added a $600 adjustment to my account, but something still seemed off. After further digging, I discovered that they had only billed my dental insurance and never even submitted the claim to my medical insurance, which could have covered a significant portion of the cost. I took it upon myself to resubmit the claim to Aetna's medical side, and after a long back and forth, I was able to get $4,000 credited back to my account. This was something the office should have handled from the beginning, but instead, I was left to navigate it on my own. The lack of communication, incorrect billing, and unwillingness to assist after receiving their payment made this entire experience incredibly stressful. Patients deserve transparency and proper insurance handling--Expert Dental completely failed in both areas. I would strongly caution anyone considering treatment here to double-check how their insurance is being billed and to be extremely wary of their financial practices. read more

TERRIBLE. I have to agree with Greg S. I had my first appointment and teeth cleaning with Dr. Shaio. I could tell that they were trying to impress me with their new office space, massage chairs (which dont even work), and fancy equipment. After waiting for 40 minutes, I had a teeth cleaning. The teeth cleaning was fine-very average. As soon as my cleaning was over, Dr. Shaio began to point out everything that was wrong with my teeth-needed fillings, wisdom teeth, etc. She started printing diagrams and pulling my x rays up on the tv. She was clearly trying to scare me into coming back again. I felt like I had just walked into a clothing store where everyone was working on commission and attacked you as soon as you walked through the door. Needless to say, I went back a second time for my fillings. Again, I waited 45min before a DIFFERENT doctor came into the room! I was SHOCKED! I clearly had an appointment with Dr. Shaio, who was the doctor that saw me initially and recommended that i come back for the fillings. Because I had already wasted half of my evening, I decided to allow the other doctor-Chen Chen, to do my fillings. HORRIBLE! Not only did she take an hour for a job that should have taken 30min, but her assistant knew as much as a second grade child. The doctor had to describe in detail to him exactly what she needed and he gave her a blank look each time. An hour later, I could already feel that something was wrong. I kept trying to explain to Chen Chen that it felt as if I had gum on my teeth, and she BLATANTLY ignored my pleas. As soon as I came out into the reception area, the receptionist was already trying to schedule my next appointment! I am NEVER going back to this place again. Its nearly 3 weeks later, and I still feel like I had gum on my teeth, and my teeth hurt after the filling!!!! read more

I've had such a great experience with Expert Dental and would highly recommend them! I originally went to them for Invisalign, and I'm so happy with my results. Once my Invisalign was off, I wanted to make sure my teeth looked as even and symmetrical as possible. The doctors were incredibly patient with me and really listened to how important this was to me. We talked through the options of reshaping my teeth versus bonding, and they took the time to carefully make small adjustments so that my teeth looked more symmetrical and natural. I really appreciated how much attention they gave to something that was important to me. I've since continued seeing them for my general dentistry needs as well, including having a crown done. They offer same-day crowns, which made the process so much more convenient. The offices are incredibly clean and modern, with state-of-the-art technology, and the doctors are always patient, thorough, and willing to take the time to explain everything. BEWARE POSITIVE REVIEWS. They bribe you into them. 1. I made an appointment with Dr. Shiao online.I didn't even get to see her! this was a scam. Rght after I booked they called me and told that there was an error and she was booked up. this was strange as I remember seeing her having a whole day available. they told me she got booked up fast, and booked me for a different day. When I came for an appointment, however, I saw another doctor, very young, in her 20s. I was told that Dr. Shiao was not in the office that day. So wht did they book me for her for that day then??!!! they just used her as a bait to get me into the office. 2. I had the fastest cleaning ever - about 15 min instead of a usual hour or so. ridiculous, since I have not had cleaning in a long time. 3. As I was leaving I was asked to rate them. out of courtesy I gave them 5 out of 5. When they saw that, they gave me a piece of paper with instructions to go rate them on Yelp, and promised to give me a free whitening kit. 4. X-RAY - yes they took the xrays of the full mouth. I actually came there with a particular complaint about the feeling of discomfort. they did NOTHING about it. They X-Rayed my whole mouth and told me I had over $16,000. 00 of work I needed to do, but they could give me 50% of courtesy discount, thus I would ONLY have to pay $8,000.00. the whole behaviour is unethical and unprofessional. Wow, thanks to Dr. Shiao, who literately saved my anniversary weekend. My wife and I traveled to NYC this long weekend to celebrate our anniversary. As we are enjoying a wonderful afternoon walk in the city, toothache started to bother me. I have a history of teeth problem, and had a regular doctor back in Toronto. I shrugged it off thinking it will go away and will deal with it when I get back to Toronto. However, the toothache started to be so unbearable that I couldn't even sleep that night. Needless to say, romantic dinner was canceled and wife was worried and disappointed. Out of desperation, I did a search for dental practice close to our hotel. And that is when I found Dr. Shiao's practice which is right around the corner from Grand Central. Wife called and tell them it is an emergency and Dr. Shiao took me in. When I arrived, I was very impressed by how clean and beautiful the practice is, but that is not what wows me the most. Dr. Shiao was very professional and treat me with utmost care. She did some temporary measure to ease my pain and wrote down a note so I can bring back to my own dentist in Toronto. Although knowing that I won't be returning, she instructed the assistant to X-ray me and explain to me my problem. What a professional!! I wish my own dentist has 1/2 the heart Dr. Shiao has. Dr. Charms is amazing. I have a heavy fear of dentists and am considered high risk because I need so much dental work done. In March, I had an abscessed infected tooth that was beyond painful and needed it pulled. I posted my plight on Facebook and my friend Rubina referred me to their office, Expert Dental. I was so scared because it was at the height of COVID, but I needed relief from the excruciating pain. Many dentists I've had would not understand my low tolerance to pain and making the process even more painful than ever. The dentist I had previously was nice, but was not in my network anymore as our company changed health insurance. She told me about Dr. Charms and that he would ease my fears and help me to get better. She was so right. Dr. Charms has such a calming peace and demeanor, and makes any dental visit an enjoyable one. He listens to his patients and helps them to get better. Funny thing is that he loves Bob Ross, has the temperament and calming voice of Bob Ross, so I would totally say he is like the Bob Ross of Dentistry lololol! My girl who hasn't had cavities for nearly 10 yrs, needed some filled and she loved her experience also with Dr. Charms about 2 weeks ago. Despite this, they continue to bill my insurance for procedures that appear to have intentionally caused more damage. Even my insurance provider has struggled to get in touch with them. Meanwhile, I'm bombarded with emails, text messages, and voicemails. To make matters worse, they've recommended I see a specialist for surgery something I never needed before and I've recently been receiving messages about extractions. I've been going to Dr. Shiao's office for over 2 years now and this review is long over due. I had my wisdom teeth extracted and had a root canal done last year. I've had friends who've had wisdom tooth taken out before and their faces normally are swollen for many days after - miraculously I did not have this problem at Dr. Shiao's office at all. There was no pain or discomfort. There isn't even the threat of it, because Dr. Shiao is calm, friendly, and genuinely concerned about making you feel comfortable. She thoroughly explains all procedures, and not only tells you what you might want to consider improving about your toothcare, but she also tells you WHY. I love knowing the why, as it's a better motivator. And if you ask questions, it's basically like a crash course in dentistry. I've had some very good dentists, and I've seen a few bad ones, but she is far and away one of the nicest and most professional I've ever met. Took great care to make me feel comfortable, reviewed my x-rays with me in detail, and emphasized that her office would make sure the insurance paperwork was taken care of because their job is to make my life easier. I would recommend this doctor to my family and friends in a heart beat. read more
