I was deeply disappointed by the practice. After a brief and superficial "cleaning" with no use of the dental pick, there was immediate upselling----with zero explanation----of a costly deep cleaning. I asked if I had periodontal pockets. I received no response,except that i was told that i did not have abnormal bone loss. So why do a deep cleaning? My gums are not swollen. I had no blood during the cleaning or when brushing, i floss and use the waterpik daily, I have been getting regular cleanings every four months. I scheduled a deep cleaning but canceled it after reviewing the foregoing. A dentist and then an endodonist recommended multiple root canals, the latter after conducting temperature tests, goading me to provide answers indicating temperature sensitivity when I had none. She seemed awfully disappointed that I had zero pain, zero temperature sensitivity. More upselling----costly imaging not covered by insurance. I have had regular exams, xrays and a cleaning at another dentist (no longer covered by my insurance) four months earlier but apparently my teeth and gums were destroyed by some rare disease in the interim. My conclusion is that this is a predatory, unscrupulous operation and I'm not going back. read more

Had a great experience here! Came for my biannual cleaning and it was my first time at this office. Prior to my appointment I was sent pre check in forms to fill which was very easy and made the appointment itself quick. My cleaning went well and both the hygienist and dentist were very friendly and helpful. There's an oral surgeon in this office as well which helped to scheduled a consultation for my wisdom teeth removal. Overall it was a great experience! read more

I want to be fair: the actual dental work I received at Expert Dental was good, although very expensive. I had a tooth extracted by Dr. Rita Mizrahi, and from a technical standpoint, the procedure itself seemed to be handled well. That said, if bedside manner and post-procedure communication matter to you, I would be cautious about seeing Dr. Mizrahi. After spending several thousand dollars on the procedure, I expected at least a basic level of follow-up or explanation once it was over. Instead, Dr. Mizrahi placed gauze in my mouth and left the room before I had a chance to ask anything. She did not check on how I was feeling, explain how long to keep the gauze in, review what to expect, or give me the opportunity to ask post-op questions. The dental assistant was nice, but I was left with him instead of the dentist. He walked me to the waiting room, handed me a sheet of post-operative instructions, and that was basically it. I was left reading the instructions on my own after the fact, with no one available to clarify anything. There were also inconsistencies in the instructions. The assistant told me to leave the gauze in for 20 minutes, but the written instructions said 60 minutes. The instructions also referenced taking 800mg of ibuprofen every 8 hours, but I was prescribed 600mg. That kind of mismatch is frustrating and concerning, especially right after an extraction when you are bleeding, uncomfortable, and trying to make sure you follow directions correctly. Again, the dental work may be good, but the experience after the procedure felt rushed, impersonal, and not at all what I would expect after paying over $4,000. They want me to return in four months for another procedure that will cost another $4,000+, but based on this experience, I am seriously questioning whether I want to continue care there. Good work is important, but so is communication, compassion, and making sure the patient feels cared for after the procedure. That part was missing. read more

I chose Expert Dental because there are many Korean dentists and it's convenient to get to from my home. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I had specifically requested Dr. Kwak, but on the day of my appointment, she was unavailable, and Dr. Park saw me instead. Dr. Park was kind, and the hygienist did a good job with the deep cleaning. I had sensitivity in two molars where the enamel near the gumline had worn away, so she treated those areas. For the first few days, it seemed fine, but about a week later I noticed the edge between my tooth and the filling had lifted. My tongue kept catching on it, and when I touched it, I could feel a thin gap like a thread. I also needed to redo an old crown on another molar, so I saw the root canal specialist, Dr. Anna. She suspected inflammation near the root and said I would need a 3D scan to see more clearly, which would cost $500. Since I had no pain or issues, I decided not to do it. When I went to see Dr. Anna, I arrived on time but waited 20 minutes, only to meet with her for about 5 minutes. She then told me to wait again for a financial consultation regarding the scan, which took another 15 minutes. What really upset me was that during this visit, she repeatedly asked about screws in my cheekbone--something completely unrelated to dental treatment. Any dentist looking at an X-ray should know whether that's related to teeth or not. I told her it was from surgery, but she kept pressing me on what surgery it was. I have been going to dentists for over 20 years, and no other dentist has ever asked about that surgery. I felt extremely uncomfortable and just wanted to walk out immediately. I will never return to Expert Dental. The facilities were unimpressive, and overall the experience was terrible. I absolutely do not recommend this place. read more

Had to find a new dentist after moving to the city; came for my dental cleaning and left with everything but that. Checked in and had to wait about 10-15 mins before I got called in. They took my x-rays as I was a new patient and noticed some concerns which I appreciated hearing! They suggested the fluoride treatment due to my acid reflux as my teeth are being worn down faster due to all the acid. It wasn't covered by my insurance but I agreed to do it for preventative care. They also suggested different toothpaste that will help. The two dentists that I saw were very efficient and straight to the point, but I could tell that they were very busy and I was just one of the patients they had to go through. Then someone else came to do my scaling, which was actually one of the worst dental experiences that I had. She started off with the electric, and mentioned that she's going to start off with the strongest level and to let her know if it hurts. Not even 5 seconds in I'm saying "ow" like every 3 seconds because she's just poking at my inner cheeks or the gums and just rushing over everything!! She says "ok ok I know it hurts" and continues to do so then says it is all because I have sensitive gums and need to get an electric toothbrush. Sure, that could be the case that my gums are sensitive but even if they weren't, if someone was jabbing a pointy electric drill in my gums I'm sure they would still hurt. Not even a minute in, someone else comes in to get my consent and payment for the fluoride treatment. Then she comes back to finish my scaling. She says she will bring the level down a little and continues to just brush over and poke at the inner teeth/gum area and doesn't do anything for my front teeth. The water is just splashing all over my face and I decide to close my eyes. It still hurts here and there and WORD FOR WORD she says, "Yea I don't know what I'm doing because your teeth is already clean." Like what..?? She continues to poke at spots and say "Yea it is sensitive" and doesn't actually do.. the cleaning. Then she brings out the fluoride and just quickly brushes it over my teeth and dabs some leftovers on top and says I'm done. The scaling experience that I am used to (previous dentist) and expected is someone who will really look at my teeth/gum/the between and clean and pick at anything that's there, and taking their time to do a thorough job. There's no excuse to be just rushing with the strongest drill and brushing it over and saying that is the treatment. So yea, in turn, didn't really get the scaling/dental cleaning that I came for and left with out-of-pocket fluoride treatment and gum pains with all the poking. read more

Highly recommend Expert Dental! I've been coming here for the last decade and have had a number of doctors at the practice. The facilities are clean, they don't push unnecessarily treatments, front desk is sometimes less approachable but they get the job done. Particularly recommend Dr Kwak - she's very professional, friendly and great at explaining what's happening with my teeth. Updating for public awareness and education: BEWARE! Always check what was sent to your insurance carrier. I had filed a report with the NY Atty General's Office (Consumer Frauds Bureau 28 Liberty Street NY NY 10005), a grievance complaint to my Dental Insurance Carrier, NY Dental Board, & a complaint to the NY SED Office of Professions (webpage: Op.nysed.gov... their email conduct@nysed.gov) on Expert Dental due to my experience. I allegedly had a tooth that needed extraction, & then needed a bone graph & tooth implant costing me a total of $10,310.00 out of pocket. I was not told that the Dentist performing this start to finish procedure was out of network, when my general dentist at this SAME office is in network (that is something the office SHOULD notify the patient-i.e. that the other dentist at the SAME office performing the major procedure at the SAME office is OUT-of-network). In addition to this, after obtaining an itemized bill from my insurance carrier & examining it, i found out this Dental Office billed my insurance carrier in EXCESS of the contracted rate of insurance carrier! What does that mean? Example: dental code D7593 (description: "bone repl grft ridge prsv/site") i was charged excessively in the amount of $1035..per my insurance carrier's contract with Expert Dental, Expert Dental was only allowed to charge me $315.00 for this item). When i asked for billing records from them, they wouldn't provide it to me promptly. It took me months and months of asking for an itemized bill from them. Luckily i am good at documenting and saving receipts which helped support my claim/report with the NY Atty General's Office. There should be an option for NEGATIVE rating. Happy to explain my experience in more detail if necessary so this doesn't happen to another hard working NY'er. read more

They are shady! Sooo, They take my insurance, my insurace covers implants, root canals - just about everything. My insurance company, nor I can understand why they take insurance for some stuff then say they don't take my insurance for others (that's covered! ). When u go for your appointment- they are always extremely packed. On top of this, they RARELY answer their phones - it's ridiculous. The reviews on the business is terrifying and unfortunately I had a somewhat negative experience recently so checked to see what experiences people had and share my own-I had a generally positive experience with support staff but lack of transparency about an insurance issue with a specific provider. It could possibly be joint issue with dental insurance and provider, but leaving bc had feedback specific to the practice. I'm on mobile so apologies in advance for typos etc. I was recommended a night guard and led to believe it would be covered by insurance as I submitted information and there was a lot of making sure it was the correct information. I made a small payment for night guard upfront and was excited to receive it. However, I ended up later being billed 600 out of pocket-which I would not have agreed to had I known! I think this type of communication should be changed to be more upfront for future patients especially because the practice made such a big deal about having insurance-I confirmed multiple times. If there's this level of poor communication regarding costs, why risk going and trusting someone to do what's in your medical interest overall? The provider I met with was Dr. Farzaneh Khezri. I've been here previously a few times without issue except upselling-for example, expensive mouth gargle during visit I paid extra for. For some reason on this particular visit, the dental hygienist was also accidentally using scaling tool and bumping into other parts of mouth and teeth by mistake? multiple times (for example she was scaling bottom teeth but was bumping tool into top teeth at same time roughly and this happened not once but a few times)! This took me by surprise, thought she might be clumsy or new, but that level of disregard is risky. She did not acknowledge it either! I had a previous cleaning here to be frank that seemed ok, but when you schedule appt you don't always see same person (hygienist/dentist) as it's practice. When you're at a dentist, I like to feel I can trust provider and hygienist and not have to speak up about how tool is being used or that someone's recommending something because it's expensive, I have doubt about what's going on at this practice. It's not after all my area of expertise and it's the practice's responsibility to choose good hygienists. This part is more speculative based on other reviews but if there's injuries to teeth, I think they can continue to offer repairs. I speculate this because of the degree to which it was rough-seems almost difficult to do by accident. I have not had teeth issues before but had more teeth quality issues since going here, luckily I'm leaving before anything serious has occurred. I don't have any cavities or fillings, and I always go in every six months for check-ups and deep cleanings. This time, the hygienist was so rough that for the first few days my gums were sore, swollen, and I couldn't even chew food properly. The gum sensitivity and pain lasted more than two weeks, which has never happened to me in my entire life. Dr. Wu only looked at my teeth for about 2-3 minutes and then started recommending things I didn't come in for--like Botox for my jaw for cosmetic purposes, Invisalign because my teeth weren't "straight enough," and a night guard because he thought I grind my teeth. None of these were necessary for me, so I just left after the deep cleaning. This was one of the most uncomfortable dental visits I've ever had. read more

They didn't tell me beforehand I'd be charged. I also didn't ask to see the orthodontist, I only went because they told me to go. If they were going to charge me $290, they should have told me beforehand so I could say no, not just surprise me with a bill I didn't ask for. Complete scam of a place. My Aetna insurance listed this practice as covered. I had already seen a dentist, and needed a CT scan of a troublesome tooth, which I made clear booking my appointment in midtown. I also emailed in an X-ray my dentist had taken of the tooth, and the referral I needed for insurance to reimburse. All received. When I got to the midtown office, however, they duplicated the dentist exam including the X-ray, for which they charged insurance. Only then, when I was seated in the dentist chair, did they tell me the CT scan was not covered, and would cost $500. They took no responsibility for the representative who told me on the phone I was covered. Did I want the scan? I walked out and a day later booked at Clear Endodontics, with no wait and a $300 charge. read more
