Uptown Consignment is a consignment shop located in the same plaza as Ciao Cafe. I have been here years ago, I stopped by recently to check it out. Here you'll find a large assortment of shoes, clothing and purses. There's a substantial amount of designer premium brands, such as Chanel, Prada, YSL, Gucci, Burberry, Celine, Luis Vuitton and more. Some are behind the glass, others are not. The store is well organized and most items look to be in good shape. They also sell contemporary branded items. I personally feel they are a bit overpriced. For instance I found the same exact purse at Nordstrom Rack and at Uptown Consignment. At Nordstrom Rack it is $39.99 and at Uptown Consignment it is $66.00. Some items are marked with, if it hasn't sold by a certain date then it'll be discounted by half price. I found a pair of Lululemon Leggings for $24.00 but decided against them because they were cropped. There was a stunning Celine purse, made of the loveliest, most delicate leather for $300. Let's see how long it'll stay on my mind. If you're looking to treat yourself to a fine luxury item, it might be worthwhile to check out Uptown Consignment. BUYERS BEWARE!! I purchased an expensive Louis Vuitton agenda via one of their live sales on Facebook. When I got home, I was dismayed to find that it had a terrible mildew smell. I called the store to ask if I could make a return and they were insistent that all sales were final, despite the fact that this agenda is completely unusable, and the smell was not disclosed. Do not shop at this store unless you are ready to be ripped off! read more

I called regarding a bag. Associate said it was not sold but they were not accepting holds either. Asked for additional photos of bag. Since there was no holds I asked if they could hold it for just 5 minutes so I could review photos. They said yes they could hold it for just 5 minutes. Responded within 2 minutes that I would take the bag and they responded with, It's sold. Unprofessional to send photos and not allow a few minutes review time when told I could have 5 minutes. They told me they texted another photos and they bought it. When I told them that it was being held for me for 5 minutes they said there were no holds. Very inconsistent. Other times I've called to purchase a bag they won't sell it to me because it's on hold for someone to look at???????? read more

I have used them to both buy and sell. They are fair and you can haggle a bit if that's your fancy. They do a great job at authentication of the high end pieces. Definitely easier than listing items on your own and shipping online. read more

Wanted to come to the local place right in my town. I had over 12 items of pants and dropped off on a Sunday. I came back about two weeks later and found out they only took two pairs of pants and donated everything else. It was my fault as I did not know there is a 48 hour policy to pick up items. I only got three dollars and didn't even get the bag that I brought the items in. Apparently they donated that too. I asked what items were donated and how many and they were able to supply the answer. Most of these pants were from Nordstrom and not in terrible or very worn condition so it makes me leery and if they were actually donated or not. I wish I could love the place but unfortunately I cannot I will say the staff that took care of me was very nice and apologetic but it was not her fault. read more

I asked if I could come pick up my items that hadn't sold. The girl who answered accidentally left me on speakerphone for a very unprofessional comment to her manager about how she was annoyed that I didn't understand. Then, the manager informed me that my items that had "expired" must be hunted down, by me, on their sales racks. Why are my items on the sales rack to be sold if they "hadn't sold," I asked? Oh, because they marked down the prices but planned to give me NOTHING if they sold at the discounted rate. read more

I have to agree with some of the comments regarding rude employees. Over last few weeks I have brought things to consign. Things went fine it's no problem if they don't want it but yesterday was incredible. This snobby girl first was pissed that I got there right before 4pm when they cut off consignment. Then they went through my stuff like I got it at the goodwill and brought it there. Most stuff was some older labels but like new or New w Tags I felt like telling that "fashionista" when I was your age I was working retail at G Fox in downtown selling high end designer making commission off of wealthy ladies; not prowling through stuff people want to rid themselves of. The clothes they have here are either lame or rightfully overpriced. The reason why I say it's lame is because their selection consists of outdated trends. I feel like I'm traveling to the 2010's dumpster. Sometimes I'll find good finds, I'll give them that. Their customer service is very friendly. I agree with Claire V. - I am puzzled by the negative reviews. This location has been around for a while and if the negative reviewers think it is cramped small, dingy and dusty, they should have visited it before the store underwent a renovation several years ago. They do have a good selection of designer clothes for juniors, misses and plus size women and also a surprisingly large selection of men's clothing. An area that is lacking in many of the non-Salvation Army and Goodwill second hand stores in the area. It's also a great place to look for high end purses and shoes. Some of the employees are nice, but many of them ignore you and have a can't be bothered attitude since they have "power" as to which items they take and which they don't. Additionally - consigning at Uptown is highly subjective - I have brought clothes that I though would not be accepted and they have and vice versa. I agree that the store does cram a lot of clothes in a small space and I think they have out grown their location, but it's a consignment store and for me the search is what makes consignment shopping fun. Came to this location because I have always gotten great deals at the South Windsor location. Traveled about 20 minutes further from home to check this one out. Parking was fine- just a normal strip mall. Outside they did have a few tables and racks of clearance items, but everything looked very picked over and everything left looked super cheap or very worn. Inside, the home section seemed to have more "old lady" furnishings than the South Windsor store. nothing cool or funky. There are a ton of aisles of clothes that are super tightly packed, but only one small rack of plus size clothes. They were all very matronly and not a lot of clearance markdowns. The toddler kids section was very small, in the 4T section, there were sizes ranging from 6 months to small teenager size. The shoe section was definitely smaller than South Windsor--- but they also had random shoes through out the stores on top of the racks, so I'm not sure if I saw everything! It was the same for bags. I wasn't in the market for any bags, but they did seem to be pretty spread out through the store. I'm never in this area normally, so I do not believe I would travel the exta mileage to come back to this location. Just wasn't worth it. read more

This place might be great for buying things b/c I did notice a lot of pretty nice clothes here. My review is from a seller's perspective though. A while back, I brought in some designer suits and shirts that no longer fit me. The process was explained to me: They basically try to sell at a certain price, then they'll try a lower price if original price doesn't attract buyers. Lastly if that doesn't work, they'll donate item to charity or you can come pick it up, and the whole time they'll give you online access to what item of yours has sold. Then you can collect your money. Their policy sounded good. Then I came to see on the online system that half my items weren't even listed (I was told they were having computer problems every time I called to inquire), and the items that were listed were described so confusingly that I had no idea what was even selling. They'd list a pin-stripe Boss suit simply as "gray suit" even though I brought in several gray suits. I don't even know what items really sold, and I went in person to see what was remaining, but nobody knew where my stuff was, and I didn't have time to search through all the items crammed onto the display area. In the end, I collected an amount of money that paid for the gas to make a round-trip to the store and back, and I never knew for sure where most of my items even went since the online inventory system was so buggy. read more

I had a VIP card but did not have it on me. They said I was not in the system, and proceeded to be very rude to me and let me know that VIP cards do not give 15% off "they don't work that way - only punch cards do that". Luckily, I had the card in the car and brought it to the clerk to get a credit and make sure I was entered into the system. Only to be told "they don't do that" and oh "yeah the VIP does give 15% off each order and they would have to void and start over". Which they refused to do. After coming here for ten years, my experience this week has ruined me for this place and I will never be back and would discourage others as well. I have brought clothes here for year- over ten years! They have always taken a good selection of pieces. I have never, ever had an issue. I take great care of my clothes, fold neatly to bring them in, and they go through things efficiently. They cap at 50 items. This time, I brought a bin of clothes in. I got to the counter, placed the bin on the floor and had to catch my breath (I'm pregnant) The woman said to place it on the counter. I said I needed to catch my breath, pointed to my belly, and she told me to move to the side if I couldn't move quicker. I pulled my clothes out of the bin, neatly folded, and placed them on the counter. She picked one up, held it up, and crumpled it to the side. Then again with item 2, 3, 4, and 5. I asked if there was anything wrong with them and she said they were too wrinkled. They weren't wrinkled until she crumpled them. I asked her to fold them back the way they were before she tossed them into a pile. She slid my pile of folded clothes across the counter to me, saying she wouldn't take any of it because it was all too wrinkled. Looking around the store, I'm sorry, but it's a shitshow. They take crap. Tons and tons of crap. Yes, they have nice things, but they have Target, Old Navy, Walmart, and yet my pile of JCrew, Banana Republic, Gap, Nordstroms wasn't up to par. The 'girl' (I refuse to refer to her as a woman as she seemed young and bratty) needs to get a lesson on customer service, how to talk to people, and all around common sense. Ok - I wasn't going to go here until I read a review about Plato's Closet and decided it was close and easy to get to - so there I was - entering Uptown Consignment hoping for some amazing deals! The place is really dedicated to women - they don't even have a decent men's section. I mean they have some men's clothing, but it basically surrounded by women's clothing and looks like they threw it together just to have a few items. I was greatly disappointed in what they had available too - for men! Jeans, casual and dress pants, shorts, sweat pants, and PJ's were all basically together on a rack separated by size only. Shirts were done a bit better, but you could clearly see that older clothes far outnumbered newer styles. Then there was the price - WOW! I thought I might get a better deal than at Plato's based on what I read, but the single item I found was $2.00 dollars more then at Plato's and it was three years old. $12.00 bucks for a t-shirt that I can get either on line or at Plato's for $10.00 or under didn't make me that happy, but I purchased it anyhow! My wife also likes me to check these places out for her favorite style of purses and when I attempted to do that - two problems surfaced. One - there was no rhyme nor reason to how they display their purses, except the best are kept behind lock and key and were the most expensive purses I've ever seen anywhere! Sticker shock for sure here - even the less expensive MK's, Coach and DB were higher at this location than any other place I've ever seen. The second problem with the purses is that I'm not one who carries one and they offered me NO help at all - as if they didn't have time for a guy looking for a freaking purse! I've paid hundreds of dollars for purses my wife likes - their loss though! Finally - it's sometimes difficult to compare one consignment shop or thrift store to another, because the merchandise is subject to vary based on what is brought in and the selection doesn't just vary from one location to another - it constantly is changing on a day to day basis. So I'd still suggest to those who shop thrift and consignment to continue to check back from time to time. However, chances are if the service and price such on day one - they will always be that way until they close up shop. After going to 15 different Plato's Closets - I can say that 99% of the time I know exactly what I should be able to find and the price I will pay. As a 25 year 'consignment veteran'- starting in Florida, then NY, now here in CT, I would consider myself a guest w/high expectations. To prepare and avoid wasting anyones time I called this store prior to going there to consign designer items and spoke with the assistant manager Carlie, who was very helpful by establishing values on my items prior to me driving there. She went out of her way to accommodate me and to show me her research on values of my Chanel, Valentino, St. John, Prada and other brands. I was super pleased with Carlie's professionalism, as well as the cashiers & other employees, and the consigning routine that they've established. I recently brought some things to Uptown to consign. When I arrived, the woman was very condescending, and seemed to think I had done her some injustice by bringing in my clothing (including designer and brand new items). She did accept five of my items (each of which looked new and was a designer label). I called to check on my items a few weeks later, and told simply that I had sold one item. About a week before the end of their 60 day period, I came to retrieve what had not sold. I was informed when I arrived that UPTOWN HAD GIVEN MY POSSESSIONS AWAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER I DROPPED THEM OFF. Apparently they had "checked the items a second time" after I left, deemed them unfit to put out on the floor, tossed them in a bin, and sent them straight to be donated. I WAS NOT CONTACTED and my clothes were NOT KEPT FOR THE PERIOD OF TIME I was told they would be kept for. These items were in great condition and it is inexcusable that my possessions were discarded without my permission. I absolutely would have come to pick them up right away if I had known. I STRONGLY CAUTION anyone from consigning their clothes at Uptown. I spoke to the assistant manager while I was there, who was unapologetic and unhelpful. I plan to take legal action. I was expecting more...even for a used, consignment store. Or maybe I just came in at a bad time... The store's layout was cluttered and confusing. As for merchandise, it looked like they took anything and everything. I think they had way too much merchandise on the floor. Honestly, I felt like I was in a glorified Savers. In saying that, I much rather go to Savers because it is cheaper, especially with my 30% coupon, and the layout is more organized. I don't understand all these negative reviews! I visit this store on practically a bi-weekly basis...it's the kind of place where you can find a GEM of a deal as long as you're willing to be picky and sift through lots of poorly organized, overstuffed racks. I love it because I am a petite size, and I usually have pretty good luck finding designer items in petite sizes or sometimes even pre-tailored jeans etc. It helps that they have a petite section because I would hate to have to dig through the rest of the store. Too much stuff! My biggest gripe is that they have a whole wall of shoes, but absolutely no sorting by size. Pretty useless and definitely the reason I've never even bothered trying to find a pair I'd consider buying. Still, I've always found the staff to be helpful, conversational and patient. Even if they don't offer as much money for consignments as some other places, the fact that they discount any purchases if you make them with account credit means that your money goes further. I've found that the Rocky Hill location has better quality brands in clothing than the South Windsor or Southington locations, but South Windsor has more designer bags, so who knows? Definitely give consignment a try--it's good for the environment AND your wallet! read more

Pretty, pretty okay. It beats the pants off of the Southington location with better goods, friendlier staff, better layout and merchandising and a location that is less of a headache to get to. I scored a pair of Sevens for 20 bucks, brand new. How can you NOT love that? There are two things that make this shop good, but not awesome. The first is that they sell knockoff merchandise. It's clearly labeled as such and they aren't at all misleading about it, but IMO if you advertise premium label goods and then sell knockoffs next to the real thing, you're shooting yourself in the foot. There are a million places to buy knockoff, faux garbage. Go to any tag sale in Weha on a Saturday. There is no deal to be had on a 60 dollar fake LV, and people go to consignment shops for deals! My second criticism is that Uptown gives less money back on goods sold than other places. All in all, it's a good place to shop, but I've had better luck and greater returns selling elsewhere. read more

My wife did a major closet purge recently... she had over 100 articles of casual and business clothing. My first stop was Uptown consignment in S. Windsor. They took about 50 pieces. I took the remaining clothes to the Rocky Hill location. The young lady at the register was very nice and welcoming. She said it would take about 20 minutes to go through my clothing. When the 20 minutes was up I sought out the same employee. She looked worried. I asked her how I did... She said, actually we cannot accept your clothing. I asked her if there was a problem... We can not accept clothes in a trash bag my manager said. I asked her if she even looked at it? No she said... the manager was standing nearby watching out interaction. I told her this was ridiculous. She said when the clothes come out of the bags they are very wrinkled, to which I said so are new clothes that are delivered to every retail store and they steam them. She replied well we don't do that.... So basically Uptown Consignment in Rocky Hill want you to bring your clothes you no longer want ironed and pressed. The associate I dealt with at the s. Windsor location never said a thing about not taking clothes in a plastic trash bag, she was just grateful that I thought to bring it to them before I went to Salvation Army. The customers of Uptown Consignment in Rocky Hill are the ones that supply the inventory to their store. The manager of the store could care less that I drove an hour to get there and that I did not have bags big enough to accommodate the clothing I had. That is not how you grown roots in your community. SMARTEN UP!! read more

I brought in a few evening bags (pristine condition...some never used) and the young woman taking in the consignments looked over my things as if they were garbage. She told me she wouldn't be interested in all five evening bags due to the fact they weren't "name brands". That would have been okay however her attitude was very unprofessional bordering on rude. I am unbelievably disappointed in this place. After coming in during the correct time frame to retrieve 3 handbags that did not sell, I was told that I did not have any items to receive back. What happened to my items? They did not sell. Why is there no record of them? I know for a fact when I brought them in and the 400 pound fat old lady in the back who accepted them gave me a receipt. But because I can't find that receipt, there is nothing left to do to get my items back. I am thoroughly disgusted and will never return!!!!! BEWARE!!!!! read more

I've been going here for years. I admit I've never bought anything or really shopped there, just consign. They do have a great selection of designer clothes and they are very picky about what they accept which is good for the buyer. The downside is that every single person I've dealt with there acts as though they would rather be anywhere else but there. Specifically when consigning I get the very uneasy feeling that they are annoyed and aggravated. There are one or two great women that are quite friendly, but others, the majority are not so friendly. I've witnessed them acting the same way on the phone when a consignor calls to check their account, so I know it's not just me. Too bad, because they do have a great selection of designer clothes...I am going to take my business elsewhere...to a friendlier place. read more

I consigned a Madewell jacket here that retailed around $300 and was in extremely good condition. Madewell is a very stylish high quality brand geared towards younger women so I had no doubt it would sell. I came back two weeks later to buy some things and checked on the jacket. I didn't see it anywhere and it's not a big store but I didn't think anything of it. I didn't find out until one year later even though I kept checking from time to time that they had supposedly donated my jacket a long time ago. I was very disappointed at the lack of communication and wish I hadn't brought it here. I won't be consigning here again. On the other hand I have bought some great pieces here. Upon my first impression I immediately thought that NOTHING about this place says uptown or upscale. It's small, dingy, dusty, cramped, poorly lit, and has an overall depressing feeling about it. I was also disappointed by the rudeness of the staff...I know it was a busy Saturday but it wouldn't kill people to smile once in awhile! The final straw was their deceptive practices, because even though the website clearly states- "The consignor will receive 55% of the original selling price on popular labels and all items priced $75 or more." Their staff arbitrarily invented a price for my purse, then offered me 55% of that amount. Huh?? How does that work? I know the retail price, the item was brand new with tags from this season's collection and they offered next to nothing for it. So I kept my stuff and I didn't buy anything either. I walked in thinking I wasn't going to grab anything more than a nice set of earrings, a cute shirt at best. I found AMAZING shirts instead at awesome prices, one which was a beautiful lace piece that was knocked down to $14 from $48. I've heard other reviewers say that the employees were less than friendly. I didn't have any problems with them, in fact two of them gave me some very good feedback when I tried on clothes. I want to love Uptown Consignment. I really really do and I visit this location on a regular basis hoping that I will have a wonderful experience that will spark that love. But shopping here is so frustrating. In general, the brands and items that Uptown carries are great and they are priced fairly. But this store is so unorganized and over packed that it is impossible to get to these great pieces. If you can move the hangers far enough apart to look at a shirt, you pull five other ones tangled with it when you try to take that one shirt off the rack. This is the case for designer items--items made from delicate fabrics and with fragile detailing--as well. Items get damaged this way. Although I have never consigned with Uptown, seeing how they carelessly pack their merchandise on their racks I would run in the opposite direction. On any given day, this location generally has four or more employees working in the consigning area and on the floor. The time they spent chatting with each other could be better spent organizing their merchandise and making the shopping experience more positive. Despite all of this, I have purchased a few fantastic items from Uptown. I will probably continue to shop here and leave empty handed, asking myself why I keep coming back.
