Solid 4-5 stars for food -particularly when judged head to head with other Coney Island places! I love their breakfast dishes for comfort food takeout now and then. I have enjoyed the omelettes and the country (vlore) french toast and meat and eggs breakfast. I have enough of a sweet tooth that I enjoy the Vlore special cinnamon bread french toast. I also like that when you order online you can specify if you want your bacon well done or poached eggs cooked soft or hard. My aunt really likes this place. Looks like a lot of locals go here- the older generation. Old school diner vibe I've been here a few times and usually get a skillet or spinach vegetable mix. I stopped by here because I was getting my car serviced and this was right next door to the dealership. I was feeling like a sandwich so I went with their grilled chicken. My sandwich came with fries and I got New England clam chowder (my favorite soup) as the appetizer. The soup was a bit too goopy for my liking, but it was delicious nonetheless. I was surprised by how juicy and flavorful my grilled chicken sandwich was. The restaurant even has their own hot sauce which complemented the food perfectly. Stopped by on break for work, had client with me, the restaurant was a very pleasant atmosphere, I think there were over a dozen people sitting, with customers coming in, the waitress stopped by with glasses of water, tea and coffee. She was quick and stopped by a few times before our meals were served, it was a short time before our brunch, an order of a coney dog and fries and my order of biscuits and gravy with hash browns. This has become our standard breakfast place for a once or twice a week treat. We shifted to this new (to us) locale as our old standby has become disappointing. Unlike our previous favorite breakfast spot which shall remain nameless, Uptown Coney Island knows how to modulate the sound of their music. It's generally at the proper level for background and you don't feel like you are in a concert venue. And #2, these folks know how to make crispy hash browns! Their omelets are very good, I usually get the Western omelette although the Corned Beef and Southern omelettes are also very good. My spouse usually gets the Chicken Fajita Wrap ( for breakfast, I know) and she loves it. All the staff a very friendly and efficient. They keep the water and coffee cups topped off. Oh, and their coffee is pretty good for a diner. We haven't tried lunch or dinner here yet but based on the quality of the breakfasts, I'm sure the food will be quite good. read more

So this is a new place not too far from the University. (New to me that is.) It's located in a strip mall, great vibe, super clean, practicing all CDC recommended guidelines and the wait staff are so Friendly and happy you you think that Valium was coming through the air ducts!!! Not just my server but all of them! Love the counter-really can't eat the atmosphere!! Got my food and it is so good especially that Coney dog!!! Finely ground beef and onions mustard and chili! The onion rings have a crispy crunchy batter on them. Very unique! My niece who is a high school senior is in school at home due to Covid so I asked her if she wanted anything to go and she ordered a vanilla milkshake. Michiganders love our Coney Islands! We love them a little more when they're a mom and pop shop! Always busy, but always quick to get a table. The chicken lemon rice soup is one of my favorites in town because it properly tastes homemade. You can smell the mirepoix and taste the seasoning and lemon. I always add a pita to dunk. They do the ranch dressing right (just like jets). Portions aren't crazy big but enough to fill ya. Check their specials. Feeling a little hungover? hair of the dog as they have a bar to load you up on bloody marys. I've knocked off a star because every single time i'm in here i've had to wear my coat for the entirety of my meal. I am a regular at Uptown Coney as it is next door to my office. I have never had a bad meal here. Egg white, spinach, and feta omelette with toast and fresh fruit is very good. Speaking of toast, if you like rye, their's is super solid. I absolutely LOVE their Greek salad with grilled chicken. I eat it weekly. They also had a solid Club Sandwich. Again, I have never had a bad meal here. In terms of pricing, you won't leave here feeling like you were taken advantage of but Uptown is definitely at the high end of Coney Islands in terms of expense. Basic coney dogs are $2.50. Most omelettes are in the $9 range. My favorite Chicken Greek Salad is $9. Not out of line but definitely on the high end, again, by Coney standards. A couple of other things worth noting: Uptown serves beer and wine. They appear to have a few nice Micros available. Also, if you are planning on a breakfast or weekday lunch, be prepared to wait. They get BUSY! However, it is a big restaurant so you should never have to wait long and it is definitely worth the wait! read more

I typically order a country omelette with hash browns and rye toast. That thing is amazing! I work in restaurants and have eaten here many times. Today there was some inattention or missing communication because Coney Combo with fries arrived lukewarm. I just didn't want to ask ahead of time "Please bring me the food steaming hot" -- as if it needed to be said. It would seem condescending too. The person in charge said they would have gladly remake the food if I had asked. I had an appointment and couldn't have waited for re-done food. Today was a "miss". I was so hoping to like Uptown more than I did because it's the closest Coney Island to my house. So far it's just kind of ok. I came in with my fella after a week of being housebound due to illness. I was happy to be out of the house but also not feeling so great that my appetite was truly back. In times like these I want some crazy comfort/kid food. So what did I go for? Chili cheese fries and chicken fingers, of course. The chili cheese fries came up and I'm not going to lie, they did not look appetizing. Chili never really looks all that beautiful but in this instance the chili was very dark and the cheese was buried under all of the meat. Luckily in this case the looks were deceiving as they actually tasted pretty good. The fries had a bit of a crispy batter on them that also gave them a nice crunch and the cheese was real shredded, melty cheese. Not the fake liquid stuff (although I shamefully do love that too). The chicken fingers, however, were sad. They were lukewarm and felt overcooked at the same time. Like they had been cooked a while before then reheated, left out to sit a bit, and then delivered to my table. A bit chewy, a bit cold, and not that great. I could tell that if they were hot, fresh out of the frier they would probably be pretty good but they were just a bit lacking. My fella got a gyro which I did not try but he reported as being decent. Since my sickness began I had been jonesing for some pudding so when I saw rice pudding on the menu I had to have it. The rice pudding was fab. The pudding itself was creamy, the rice was cooked perfectly al dente so it wasn't overly mushy, and it was topped with plenty of cinnamon and whipped cream. I'd come back here for the pudding alone. Service was good and the place is nice and cozy. It's also right across the street from the movie theatre and serves breakfast at any time (which I love) so I'm sure we'll be back. I just didn't walk out of there wowed upon my first visit. Uptown doesn't necessarily feel like a conventional coney island; it's a bit too clean, too well lit, too modern, too business-crowd (off of Jackson Road, where there's a cluster of businesses that stretch down the road for miles). However, this and Village Kitchen are as small diner-y as it gets in Ann Arbor. Think of it as a slightly more upscale diner than what you'd see in small towns around SE MI. I worked as a recruiter for Manpower for three years (about a mile down the road) and would patron Uptown frequently. The waitresses were always nice and attentive, the food came out quick, and there's a fair amount of options for vegetarians. The black bean burger is pretty good and thick (and not just a warmed up Morning Star patty). Their fries are just the kind I like - thicker (but not steak fry size) and with a crispy batter on the outside. Their pita bread is also well seasoned and they do a good Michigan salad. Surprisingly, they have a liquor license as well, but I've never partook on account of always going during my lunch hour. The prices are pretty reasonable. It's marginally higher than a Denny's or hole in the wall place but lower than anything else in the vicinity that isn't fast food (e.g., Session Room, The Sports Bar, Zingerman's Roadhouse, etc.). read more

Unfortunately, unlike Seattle and DD, every coney operates differently and taste can be hit or miss... while I see there are loyal fans and followers of Uptown Coney Island, I found myself giving Uptown 2 stars. I ordered side greek salad with greek salad dressing, corney dog and gyro. The salad was typical, however the salad dressing was dull at best... I know I asked for greek dressing, but I got the creamy italian... the coney dog was decent as well, but I had better coney dogs at other places... the chili that went on top was just okay as well... as for gyro, the meat was dry and it was hard to eat. As for the service, the waitress kept coming by and asked if I needed anything else, filled my water, etc., the attention given was good... however this is only one part of the overall experience... based upon other reviews, seems like they are better with their breakfast items... maybe next time... read more

So, I was traveling to Ann Arbor for some training for my small business (CPA Firm). I asked a friend what to see in Ann Arbor, and he mentioned the famous Coney Island resturant. One problem: the original two were in Detroit and Flint (over one hour away). So, I went to Yelp! Uptown was highly reviewed and I decided to move on it. For those not from the area, Coney Island is famous for its hot dogs. It would be a sin not to order a Coney on at least one trip to test the resturant. When I walked into the resturant, it has a midtown diner feel. You can tell many of the customers are regulars and have a good relationship with them forged over years of interaction. That did not stop them from warmly welcoming me into their place. The menu has a couple of unique items and I ordered the cinnamon French toast breakfast. Since the this is a Coney Island resturant and I only had one chance to try it out, I ordered the Coney to eat after the breakfast. First, the breakfast. It was good. The eggs were cooked well and the bacon was crisp, but not burned. The French Toast was not that great though. Coffee was good coffee, but not gourmet level. The best part though was the price. I think the value was outstanding! The Coney Island dog was very good! It had chili and mustard on it, but it was incredible! Now: full disclosure, I am not a Coney Island conaseur, so I may not be the best person to compare Coney Island dogs to each other, but I know what I like. If I go back to Ann Arbor, I world go back for lunch anytime. Service was great too! I had one server, who was on top of it all. In addition, there was a Greek gentleman, who really backed up people and made sure the service was flowing. Give this place a try and I'm sure toy will like it. read more

There's nothing fancy about the Eggs Benedict, but the hollandaise is reasonably made and the egg yolks were nicely runny. The kid's pancakes wee a little tough, but the bacon was nicely crispy without being hard or tough. The fruit cup was freshly cut, though maybe heavy on the grapes.
