I honestly don't think they know that we are paying them to get stains out. We were good customers of Uptown Cleaners for over 5 years. We continued going back because my husband was happy with them and he is typically the one who drops off/picks up. I will bring in items every now and then, but anytime I bring a white item in with a stain, it's like I'm putting them out. It all ended when my husband brought them a jumpsuit that had dirt stains on the bottom of the legs. Naturally, they didn't get out the stain. I brought the item back to them which was the first time we've ever done this and Troy was nice and happy to try again. The problem was when I picked the item back up. Tiffany is extremely rude. First off, she lied and said she told my husband that the stain wouldn't come out when he first dropped it off (which she DID NOT). I looked at the legs and said, but the stain did come out. And her reply was "that's what happens when you clean ten times". I'm confused. Is their job not to clean something until it's actually clean, not do the job half way? If you need to charge me a little extra, that's fine, but approach it that way. We're spent so much money at this cleaners and will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

I tried them out for about 2 months, based on their convenient location. We were happy with the results. However, several of my husband's shirts were misplaced in their care. The lady claimed I had picked up those shirts when in fact I hadn't. A week later, they found my husband's shirts and she didn't apologize for accusing me of already picking them up. I understand that everyone makes mistakes; admitting to a mistake and apologizing for inaccurate accusations is the least a business owner can do to correct the situation. Based on my experience, I decided to find a different dry cleaner in the area. If you decide to give Uptown Cleaners your business, ask for a receipt and double check it. Make sure it reflects an accurate number of clothes you left in their care. When you pick up your clothes, bring your receipt! read more

Last week we took Uptown a spare bedspread that had been stained where the fabric touches the floor. It has a ton of awful (don't tell my partner) pleats, making it delicate. It was risky. The outcome? The good news: Uptown was successful in removing the stains, all pleats surviving. It even came tightly folded in a plastic bag. The bad: upon opening the bag, along with the bedspread came the strong smell of dirty feet. Mildew! When I took it back to the shop the owner wasn't apologetic. He didn't even accept the store's role. Instead, he claimed the smell didn't come from them. (This, despite me showing him the pickup receipt from several days prior.) Then after taking a few more deep, persuasive, sniffs, he opened the cash drawer and refunded us the cleaning price. Immediately after, he ripped up the receipt I had just handed him. Not a good sign. I asked for it back, hoping I was mistaken. No use--he'd destroyed the evidence. I can accept and understand mistakes happen, especially with dry cleaning and laundry. The flip side of that is the merchant's acceptance of their role, and an effort to make it right. I didn't even ask for a refund. I just wanted (and want) the smell gone. Denying...denying...refunding, then eliminating the evidence isn't the way to go. We're left with a smelly bedspread, and Uptown a smelly review. Ain't nobody want that. read more

It must be nice to have so many customers that you don't have to worry about attracting and keeping new ones. I recently switched to Uptown after problems at another local cleaners. I was disappointed to find one of my shirts with the pocket shredded, torn at the seam and with a tear on the button placket. When I took it back, the owner (I think) told me my previous cleaners had patched it and it tore when they cleaned it. I might accept this for the shredded part, but not for the tear in the seam or on the button placket. Plus I would have noted a patch in the pocket of a white dress shirt. And if this was really what happened, why stick it in a plastic bag and slip it by me? Why not tell me when I picked it up? So I might have gotten past it had I at least gotten an apology, but he just looked at me like "anything else?" No offer to even refund what I paid to get it cleaned, or even some token discount on what I was picking up. Nope, that will be $38.63 for the stuff I picked up. Awesome. Guess I'll be looking for another cleaners to meet my minimal standard of not tearing my shirts up. read more

We have been using Uptown Cleans in Lakewood for at least 15 years. My husband is very picky about his clothing, and the owners, who are lovely, friendly people, always deliver to his satisfaction. I never worry about broken buttons. The owners will let you know ahead of time if a stain is likely to come out or not. They do minor repairs and more substantial tailoring if you need it. read more

This place is absolutely awful. Until I used them, I had never paid more than maybe $35 or so in my life for dry cleaning. I took three suits, a dress shirt, and some ties in...and they charged me nearly $100. I could have gone to my old place and had the same work done for a third of the price. Seriously, somebody needs to make it clear to them that just because they named their store "Uptown Cleaners" doesn't mean that they're in Chicago, New York, or LA...they're not even in Uptown Dallas! I feel sorry for the reviewer who took 8 garments a week to them for the last 20 years, that must have cost you a fortune. Had I known this was going to happen, I would have gladly driven back across town to the place I used to go. In short, if you care at all about getting the most for your money, or at least not having a dry cleaner pull The Great Train Robbery on you, avoid this place like the Cowboys avoid the playoffs. read more
