I recently stopped by Uptown to do some shopping and while I did find some cute tops and a dress, the overall experience could've been a lot better. I was there on a Friday midday and was surprised by how messy the store was for only being open for 2 hours. It seems like it wasn't properly cleaned up before closing. The tops section was disorganized with a section for tanks that was oddly disrupted by regular blouses and then sweaters... and then more tanks. It was confusing to shop through and made it more difficult to find what I was looking for. I also noticed the prices being incredibly high for mediocre items (I literally saw a Gold's Gym tshirt someone probably got for free being priced at $9.99). A lot of items were damaged including a Free People top I would've totally bought had it not been missing beading and still priced at $20. I purchased a dress that was originally $12.99 but because the straps were safety pinned on and beading was missing, they were nice enough to give me a 10% discount. However, once I got home I noticed the sensor was left on the dress! Super disappointing and annoying since I don't live nearby. The dressing rooms were filthy with dust bunnies and clothes piled up all around the rooms with very few people working to get the area cleaned up. This place has boasted about how they weren't a normal "thrift store" because the shopping experience is supposed to be elevated thanks to the cleanliness and organization. But I'm afraid they've really lost their touch in both respects there. It's tough to justify paying the elevated prices when the customer experience isn't what it used to be. read more

I've shopped and sold clothes at Uptown Cheapskate for years, and I've had several friends work there over the years. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be returning. I brought in a brand-new pair of Badgley Mischka shoes (retail value $139) that I received as a gift but couldn't wear because they were too small. They offered me $9, which I declined--no big deal. I planned to sell them elsewhere. The issue happened when an employee placed a pricing sticker directly on the shoe. When she removed it, it ripped part of the finish and left behind paper and adhesive residue. I pointed it out immediately, but I was told it was "just paper" and that it would come off. When I got home, I realized the residue wasn't coming off, and the sticker had actually damaged the shoe. I returned to the store to explain what happened. The owner looked at them and told me it was "no big deal" because the damage was barely noticeable. She offered me $40 for the shoes instead of taking responsibility for the damage her employee caused. These shoes were brand new, still in the box, and were only damaged because of how they were handled in the store. What disappointed me most wasn't just the damage--it was the complete lack of accountability. There was no apology, no acknowledgment that they had caused the problem, and no real effort to make it right. When I asked if they could offer $50 instead, I was told they would lose money. At that point, it was clear the focus was on protecting their profit rather than taking care of a loyal customer. I'm still shocked by how this situation was handled. A simple apology and an effort to make things right would have gone a long way. read more

First time taking items in to consignment. Looked on their website which asks for specific items and brands.. great I have just the items they want and brands they are requesting. Nike, Adidas, Free People, New Balance, Levi, American Eagle, North Face. All name brand items some with tags on, the rest almost new. About 30 items total. Offered me $28. Wow. When I checked their racks they were selling products I had just brought in same style and color for $30-$40 dollars for each jackets. The math is not mathing here folks. So they give me $28 (for 30 items) and make over a thousand on my stuff? I completely understand this is a business and they have an overhead. And a brick and mortar store front. But at least offer me $60-80 for my name brand new items to sell for 20x what they offered me. I'll take my stuff to goodwill and give it away before I let these people make a profit on me with no payouts for the me supplying and supporting their business. They definitely lost a customer and quality items for low balling the customer. read more

I've sold my clothes here like a year ago and had a pretty decent experience. This time, not so much, and I was left pretty disappointed. I came around 4:30pm, clearly it is busy. I was told to sign in on the little kiosk and gave them my ID, standard procedures. Dropped off my clothes and the girl that helped me said to wait for their text or come back before they close at 8pm. Well, I never got a text, so I came back around 7:15pm. The same girl told me that they didn't even start sorting through the clothes yet and asked me if I wanted I wanted to come back tomorrow. I said no thanks, so she went to find my bag which turns out that it was actually in the process of being sorted because the clothes were out of the bag and underneath it. She told me to just come back again before they close, to which I was fine doing because I've already waited this long and it was 45 minutes to close. I ended up grabbing food and coming back at 7:55pm. My clothes were untouched, and the same girl apologized and told me to come earlier on another day. NOW, I wouldn't have been as irritated at 7:15pm, but because I was told to wait and come back for the sole purpose of having my clothes sorted out through completely... I feel like it was a big waste of my time. Save yourself the headache and just come in when they open to sell your clothes. TLDR; my clothes were not sorted through between 4:30-8pm. Apparently they started?! but stopped, told me to come back, and basically never finished what they started doing before they closed at 8pm. Disappointing. read more

Used to be pretty good to sell clothing there. But new owners (maybe there for 1-2 years now) low ball even high-end brands. You are better off donating than selling your stuff here. And, they reject things for wear and tear but then you look on their racks and stuff has rips, stains, and fraying. Sounds to me like they take the items you said to donate and put a price on them and sell them. Not worth the effort. I do better selling on Poshmark - I can make $100 for 2 items whereas I would have gotten $20 for a whole bin of stuff at UC read more

We were passing through this town and found this place on yelp. It's in a big shopping center so plenty of parking. This place was one of my favorites. The clothes was in great condition and they had a ton of new and high end items. It was hard to narrow down what to get. I got some Tory Burch flats for $22 and a Kate spade for $20. Asked to use the bathroom and the male employee (curly hair, skinny) told me both the customer and staff bathrooms were out of order (only the customer bathroom had an out of order sign). I then walked all the way to a different store a ways away and came back to continue shopping. A friend shopping with me informed me that she had overheard the same employee telling his friend (another employee) how he had told me both the bathrooms were out of order just to be an a-hole. Really rude. The product selection was great though; lots of free people and under armor. I was able to find a pair of shorts that I liked (made sure to avoid that employee at checkout). read more

If you're looking to buy, it's wonderful. If you're looking to sell, it's a nightmare. I took in a bag of workout clothing and they returned all of my Peloton pants and tops - some new with tags. They take lululemon but hand you back your Ann Taylor. Guess it's not hip enough. I'll take my higher end clothing to Duckpin to consign. The Peloton went on Poshmark. It's just too much to haul in a huge bag only to haul it back out for them to take 5 items and give you $17. I spent that in gas making 2 trips. The turnaround time to review clothing is 4 hours. It's a long time to wander around. I picked up some cute pants and some nice tennis shoes, but this caters to the college kids, not working professionals. The service was excellent ! The staff was working hard to get the store closed up for the night but they still found time to answer my questions. They were kind to me and kind to one another!!!! That was a big plus for me. I strongly dislike employees who are polite to a customer then turn around and act rudely or belittle a coworker or an employee of a lower rank. I found the selection of shoes, boots and purses to be well varied and well visible. Every time I turned around I found three or more items I felt compelled to take a closer look at and buy. In my opinion, prices of the elite purses were higher than their "at the moment" value. But I gave it some thought and realized other local second hand establishments charge a lot more. I also noticed these purses were in better condition than I've seen there in the past so I bought a few. I also bought a beautiful, one of a kind, handmade, over the shoulder purse. The price was excellent! I'm going to study the design to learn the knotting technique. Earlier yesterday, I had a physical that didn't go so well. I wasn't well mentally and my moods were erratic. My reason for being at the shopping center was to go to GIANT. I then drove past Uptown Cheapskate and realized it had been several months since I had browsed through your 'one of a kinds' and unique 'never seen before' fashions. I was having so much fun last night browsing and buying. You had so many finds I needed and wanted such as shoes. For 14 years, I have been wearing the same 'shoe duo'. I love this place! everyone here has been consistently friendly and eager to help me. It is definitely very hipster vibes and I'm here for it! If you are selling/donating your clothes, do not get angry if they only accept 5/50 shirts for $10, it's very normal! Haha just the donate the remaining clothes. They have so many new clothes every time I come here. I love the new location too! I highly recommend coming here! They have designer clothes all in great condition for an even greater price than what it was bought for! read more

Take forever to look through your clothes just to ultimately offer you nothing for clothes that will legit still have the tags on them. i'm convinced they don't actually buy ppl's clothes and just assume you're too lazy to take them anywhere else and will hit you with - "well we can't buy them because they don't fit our standards (i've seen your racks, ya'll ain't got standards), but if you don't want them back you can give them to us so we can donate them" *uses the clothes to donate to charities to get tax write offs i guess you shouldn't expect much from a place that literally refers to themselves as "cheapskate" i.e. stingy might as well just go donate them yourself and not give these cheapskates any time of day read more

I went with a bag of designer clothing with the exception that I would not be returning with any items. That was my first mistake. The cashier asked for my ID and I handed it to her. When she finished with it, she placed it on the counter and walked away. Rude! I was advised it would take 2 hours for them to complete their evaluation. I then received the text message with my payment amount, $32. When I returned to the store, I inquired as to why the dollar amount was what it was. I was told they only accepted 8 items. I was also told that some of the designers I had, they did not take (so you take Shein but not Calvin Klein or Tommy Hilfiger?!?!). The cashier also commented it could have been the condition of the clothes (the clothes were brand new with tags so what is the issue?). Needless to say I came, I experienced, and I'm definitely not going back. I don't know if it's just this store but I'm good. read more

Staff was cordial on entry. They made me an offer of $40 for 14 items, average of $2.85 per item. Five of the 14 items were dresses or bodysuits NWT from Free people, Princess Polly, etc. so I declined. My problem is the way the clothes were returned to me. They were dumped in the bin in a pile. This place is fine. The new location is well lit and organized in a great way. Reminds me more of TJ Maxx than a place where you are consigning clothes. What gets me about this place is that they really only take clothes that are so new that they wouldnt be candidates for consignment yet. Well at least in my closet. And it always feels like a waste of time to schlep a whole bunch of clothes for them to take 1 or 2 items and they pay you $4. Also for some reason they want you to stay in the store while they sort even though I have never had a time estimation less than an hour. Im walking around the store for an hour?? No thanks. Id rather just go to good will or somewhere else and donate my clothes but for those who get rid of new clothes after 1 or 2 seasons this is the place for you. read more

Hard to compare it to other Uptown Cheapskates bc this is the only one I've been to, but it is my favorite thrift store of all time.
