I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. Good - very nice selection of clothes, shoes, pajamas, jackets, etc. Not Good - stuff is overpriced, IMHO. Other than some of the clothes, nothing is a good buy. They had some items higher price than what you could buy at the dollar store. Their toy section was lacking. Overall - if you are into women's clothes, this is almost like a consignment shop. Found this little shop totally by accident while looking for a parking place on a rather boring errand. To liven up the boring errands I decided to do a little thrifting. This place is cute and I can see how it would be hit or miss but it definitely makes it onto my regular rounds. I scored with a cute pair of Charles David flats for $8 and a no name but adorable paisley dress for $10. My real bargain was a black jacket from Nine West with jet detailing around the collar that I desired about two years ago for $14 way down from the original cost. The nicest surprise was the red velvet Talbots dress that was marked $14 but when I brought up the date stamped on the back had passed it was marked down to $7. The only reasons I give this place 4 instead of 5 is the cash and check only policy as well as the selection being limited. The volunteers were lovely and I will definitely keep coming back to check out the selection. read more

The Surprise Shop is a cute little charity shop in a lovely old house. Whenever I'm walking around town and have some spare time, it's fun to go in and poke around. The volunteers who work the front desk have always been very kind. I've found many nice home products and kitchenware items - a silicone madeleine pan, an adorable round tablecloth, fabric yardage for sewing. They have an entire floor of clothing, but I haven't had much luck with it; their plus-size selection is limited and skews a little older than my taste (I'm in my late 20s). The hours are pretty limited. If I didn't work nearby and walk past the shop on my errands into town, I'd probably never make it in. All in all, a sweet little Towson gem. read more

This shop is very cute. Located in an older house and benefits the church next door. When I entered I was welcomed warmly and offered a quick over view of what was where by some nice ladies at the front. This store has house wares, books, and clothing. No large furniture, though. There is a very large selection of clothing, with a "brand names" room on the upper floor. Overall I really liked shopping around this store, but I did not find anything worth taking home, so I rated it A-OK. I will try to get back and see what they have in the future. read more

Ok so I come from a family where I don't have a lot of money. I went here after getting a slip from a donation center that they work with for me to get 3 of anything I could find in there. The lady said I could get anything with a white tag or if the tag on the item was expired. Done and done. I found a pair of jeans I needed (my old pear were practically falling off my body and it was the only pair I had, a pajama set, and then I found a lovely pair of boots that caught my eye instantly. I went up to the desk and she rang up the jeans and the pajama set. However, she said that I couldn't get the boots (even though the tag was expired) and I had to wait till tomorrow to get them because "the owner has a chance of getting them back even though it's expired" (Mind you she never said anything about the owner re-claiming items. If that was the case I wouldn't have been aloud to get the pajama set either?) SO I agreed thinking that was ok it was their stuff after all and I was potentially getting it for free. The next day (today) I call back and the person working there said "My boss re-claimed them and took them home last night" The person's boss who told me this was the lady who helped me out yesterday. Yes I know I'm getting the items for free but I have no money at all. I live in a home where we owe over $3,000,000 in hospital bills and live only on $100 of groceries per month (I live in a house of 3 2 adults 1 child) My mother works only part time to pay a $1400 rent for an apartment (not including electric/ gas bills which is an extra $900) I'm not here to tell you all about my sob story and I know some of you will say "be grateful for what you got" I don't have a lot to be grateful of in the first place. Just be careful if you're in a situation like me. Not everyone is as "sweet" or "kind" as the seem. I would give this place a 0/5 stars if I could because the jeans my mother's husband got were also swapped without him seeing with a pair of jeans that were ripped from the knee down without him realizing (he has a head injury so he doesn't notice a lot of things that well). I will never come back to this place again and I hope you all head my warning unless you have money flowing out of your pockets they will treat you like you're nothing. read more

The staff was not welcoming at all. We have been here several times before and have never had a problem. This time, we went in to the store with a half-empty plastic bottle of water (screw cap) on a hot day, and the two women behind the counter were somewhat rude and told me to put it on a shelf and not carry it around the store (no signs were posted on the door saying "no drinks", and it was a securely closed water bottle with screw cap). That was fine, I figured, I respect that they do not trust an adult to carry a half-empty, closed, plastic waster bottle around a store without spilling...fine, perhaps they had have someone ruin something before with water... I obliged politely and placed it where they told me to put it, apologized, and continued looking around. Then, a few minutes later, my husband and I wanted to go upstairs to look at the women's items to find his mother a birthday present. The ladies then looked shocked and befuddled that we were going upstairs and then said that men were not allowed on the entire second floor of the shop. They said that often women will be naked up there and men can not go up there- to which I thought was very strange considering they had multiple closed-caption video monitors showing the upstairs via camera. First of all: I have been here before- they have two (or three?) dressing rooms on the second floor, and there is no need for women to "get naked" in the store; I thought it was odd that they would allow women to change right out in the open and then ban men from shopping in half of their store! Thirdly, if you know women change right out in the open up there and "get naked", why do you have monitors displaying the "naked women" right there on your counter-top to let your customers see them? We could clearly see the monitors from several feet away from the counter top, and not only did we not see anyone up there on the second floor, I thought it was very weird that they'd let customers see these "naked women"! I assumed that they simply did not like us because we were not regulars, or perhaps they were angry because I came in with a closed water bottle - either way, they were rude, and I am saddened that I will never go there again, as I along with many friends and family used to go here a lot. read more
