Ok, they are under new management so maybe they don't care what they sell or how the employees are representing the brand but gosh yall! This is as bad a Goodwill with all the stains and holes. At least the employees at Goodwill don't look like they are heading to the lake! I would hope the owner would like people who are somewhat reasonable to represent them. For the love GET OFF YOUR PHONE! They must have had a really good weekend because ethe racks are low on merchandise and they had hardly any shoes. Most Uptowns have a rack with name brand items, not this one! Just a sucky experience. I gave them 2 stars because we did get 2 items but I recommend you look good at what you are buying!

I just recently heard of Uptown Cheapskate. They have a few scattered through the Austin area. I've been to 2 of them so far. They do have a large parking lot. They're in a large shopping center. As I walked in, I was greeted. I wanted to see if they would buy my clothes that I no longer wear. I had a large bag full of random items, dress pants, sweaters, shorts, dresses. A little bit of everything. I had to create an account on their iPad. Which took a few minutes. Not sure why they needed so much information about me. Seems a little excessive. Seriously, you need my drivers license number? For what? Moving forward, she said it would take about 45 minutes. I was okay with that. I was going to walk around the store and see what they had. And if I wanted to, I could go to the stores nearby, they will text or email you when they're done with their process. Places like this for me, is hit or miss. Unfortunately it was a miss for me. I didn't find anything that I wanted, but that doesn't mean the next time I come by will be the same. These places have new inventory coming in all the time. Guess that could be the fun of it, what treasures will I find? They called out my name and I went to the counter to see what they bought. Turns out the bag of clothes I brought in, they only bought 2 items. A Lilly Pulitzer dress and a Cashmere sweater. They offered me a store credit of (something) I can't remember the price. But the store credit option is more than the cash option. I took the cash option, just because, finding something I will like might take a while, and looking at their several stores just to use the credit. So cash it was. $13.50 is what i was offered for the 2 items. Obviously they need to make money, so they low ball you and sell for twice that. Or sell for more than what they give. I'm okay with the process. The clothes that they didn't buy, I was told they donate to a local place in Round Rock. Which I'm fine with. I needed space in my closet. It really wasn't about the money. I knew going into this I wasn't going to get close to what I paid. BUT...... when I walk around and randomly pull items off the rack and assess what you're selling, and see what you offered me, it's shady. My Lilly dress, worn once, in perfect condition. Not a stitch out of place. No makeup stains, No sweat or deodorant stains. Like com'on $13.50 for 2 excellent condition items? Just take a look of some of the pictures I took and tell me that this is fair compensation.

Going from $25 to a little over $7 for a dress after discounts!

Great place to try and sell your gently used clothing items, and buy clothing when they have good promos going on. I had better luck selling to them earlier this year versus now for some reason, not sure why. In any case, this time around I was able to score a great professional-looking dress for a little over seven dollars, thanks to the end of the year promo they had going on. Now being able to compare my buy/sell/trade thrift experience in America versus Italy, I am so much more appreciative of the deals I can score in stores like Uptown Cheapskate!

There are some things the store does very well, and some areas that are clearly struggling. First, the space is much larger than the previous location. There is plenty of room for merchandise, and they seem to have many kind volunteers working there. The furniture and home goods section is organized fairly well. However, the shelves are extremely packed with merchandise, which may be related to the pricing. Many items feel overpriced for a community thrift store, which likely slows down how quickly things move off the shelves. The layout is also a bit confusing. It almost feels like two completely separate stores. Furniture and home goods are on one side, while clothing is in a different area. What makes it more unusual is that you cannot pay for clothing on the home goods side, or home goods on the clothing side. You also have to go outside to enter each section. It seems like this setup requires twice as many volunteers and makes the shopping experience less convenient. The pricing on the clothing side is actually very good, but the organization is quite poor. I found high-end men's shirts, such as Brooks Brothers, mixed in with women's clothing. There were several other similar examples of items being misplaced, which made browsing more difficult. I have visited multiple times before writing this review because I hoped that, after the expansion, the shopping experience would improve. Unfortunately, the store actually felt more organized in its old location than it does now.

That in itself told me that one hand knows what the other is doing, and it's obviously really organized. Second, when we went in the thrift store side, it smelled clean. On that side, they were super nice too, and my eBay purchase pick up was super smooth. Purchases that you make their go toward providing food for people who need services from the food pantry. Even the eBay purchases go toward that. I feel better about a purchase if something good comes out of it for somebody else too. That's important to me and my family. I highly recommend this essential part of the community!

Unlike that store, which has a bit of everything including books and clothes, this location only sells home decor. It's located in a residential home which makes for a very pleasant browsing experience. They have a pretty great selection of items. The prices vary (there are some more high-ticket antique objects here). Tuesdays are 10% off so if you're eyeing an expensive item, that's your day. I also noticed that they drop prices so if you're willing to take a risk and wait, keep checking. Restocked regularly. I came two weeks apart and saw a whole bunch of new interesting merchandise. For my fellow parents with small children: The other shop is large and has shopping carts where you can place your kids. This one does not as it's smaller and in a house. However, we were able to navigate just fine with my toddler inside a small umbrella stroller. I wore my baby in a carrier. The staff is very nice.

Be gentle…read moreas I'm new at this whole review thing but seeing as how I have an opinion on EVERYTHING, I should be a natural. Moving on... I love thrift shopping when I can find the time. Since I stage homes for sell, I needed a few places to pick up some staging items on the cheap. My work keeps me mostly North so I decided to drop into the Storehouse Thrift store in Round Rock. When you walk in, it looks like a major dump, but you're instantly greeted by this super cool, friendly, red-headed man with a loud voice. Be warned that no pricing is marked so you have to ask said man for the prices. He just makes it up as he goes along. You don't even have to be dressed shabbily for him to give you a great deal either! So, you can go in there and fill an entire bag full of books (good, old, hard-backed books donated by libraries) for like $2! I use books when I stage so it's nice to get them so inexpensively. The last house I decorated, I filled the guy's shelves with self-help and Christian books and did it for only $2 bucks. If you knew this guy you'd think that was really funny (the self help and Christian books, not that I only spent two dollars). You can also buy fake greenery for almost nuthin'! I send clients there all of the time to buy those large, silk, ficus trees for $5-$10. On occasion, you can even find some neat knick-knacks! I love me some knick-knacks. I would have to say this has become one of my favorite thrift stores. I mean, I still frequent Goodwill, but at least I can go into the Storehouse and not leave feeling like I have contracted lung cancer due to all of the second-hand smoke oozing from the pores of the staff. Plus, they do really great things with the money and it is local!
