Dear Dry Cleaners of Wahington, DC: GET. YOUR. ACTS. TO.GETH.ER. One more mishap and I'm reporting ALL of you aggregately to the Better Business Bureau. (I wonder if BBB would let me report an entire city's worth of service providers.....) -------------------------------------- So this is number three for drycleaners that I've blacklisted in a 2 mile stretch on CT. (The first is Debonair in Woodley and the second is the $1.09 place in Van Ness next to Potbelly.) My boyfriend dropped off ten dress shirts and we got 8 back because they ripped the collar one two of them. She said to buy new ones and bring in the receipt. In a past experience, the Van Ness cleaners LOST one of his shirts, so tried to give me $10 (yes, TEN) for it. I don't know where those people buy THEIR dress shirts, but nice shirts in DC cost AT LEAST $50. So I learned my lesson to ask Uptown if there was a dollar limit. She said $40. Again, I explained that dress shirts are AT LEAST $50, especially from Jcrew ($69.50) and french cuff shirts (sale $39.99) from Macy's, which happen to be the two that they screwed up. "Find them on sale," she said. Yea. Right..... So I start explaining that two shirts, at $40 per piece means I have $80 to spend so if I luck out and find one on sale then maybe, JUST MAYBE, I CAN manage to get two men's dress shirts for $80. She refused to understand this and insisted each was worth $40, and no more. She didn't understand that she would be paying the same money either way: $40 for one, $40 for the other, $30 for one, $50 for another, etc. Her english was SO bad that I think she was running herself in circles. I have two degrees in international relations, love intercultural exchanges, I am all about entrepreneurship, and am fluent in another language. But I have ZERO tolerance for people who own a business in which they don't know their clients (Washingtonians with power suits) or the quality of clothing (did she NOT see the Jcrew label in there and immediately panic??) and then cannot uphold a decent work ethic. Don't go here. Ever. _____________________ Okay I returned a few days later with my receipts of $50.70 for the same exact J.crew shirt ($39.99 sale on their website plus shipping and tax) and $42.70 from Macy's for the same exact french cuff shirt (also on sale!) and the woman did not put up a fight with cutting a check for both items immediately. So I give them one more star for resolving things neatly. I understood that she wanted to keep it quiet because she had a few other clients in the store. I am still burned and won't go back here- yes, people make mistakes and s*** happens, but how did she not notice the mistake on the first shirt and allow it to happen to a second one? and why did she put up such a fight in the first place? I'm sticking with American Valet in Tenleytown, at least until they screw up, which they haven't in 7 years I've been going there on and off so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...... read more

Friendly, effective and efficient. FWIW, the pope had his outfit cleaned at Uptown 1 Hour Cleaners during his recent visit -- there is a letter on the wall from the Vatican embassy. Apparently they send their cleaning here. read more

While I did not have as bad a time as Mel B. did (see below), I certainly am not in love with these cleaners. They did the job, they gave me a smile, but in general they were overpriced and not open at convenient enough hours for me to give them my business again. I wish I had more to say about them, but really, they were okay. If you're not too lazy, go down the street to find better dry cleaners. read more

After going to a wedding dress cleaner specialist in Chevy Chase that wanted to charge $600+ to clean a $99 sample dress, I could have cried. I was so relieved when Uptown charged $200, which included the cleaning, pressing and sewing back the rhinestones that had fallen off the bust beading. I've used them to hem jens, iron dress shirts and press pants. I'm always happy. They also remember me, even though I only go about once a month. read more

This is the first time I am posting a review on Google but I thought my experience was something others should take into considering when selecting a laundry and dry cleaning service since this becomes a recurring destination in our lives. The female owner, Tina, is not friendly and mostly in a sour mood. The male owner, Andy, is considerate and understanding but not professional. I understand they work hard but not professionally. I went to their store for the first time and asked for laundered shirts pricing. Tina told me an amount and also said that I can do same day drop off and pick up. I asked if they deliver. They said it's free (and also on their card). Later I am told it's 10% more per shirt. I point out or conversation and their card and they say it's "marketing". Delivery is free but they increase price per shirt quotes. When I come to pick up my shirt, I am also told there is an extra charge for each shirt because it was same day. I tell Tina that I was never informed about this but told that the prices were $x per shirt. She says that I didn't ask about any price changes given the same day service. There were also stains on my shirt that weren't removed. I pointed that out and they replied it costs more to have them deal with that too. Tina and Andy run this business purely for their bottom line and don't care about customer satisfaction. read more

I have been going here since Januar 2011 - my experience is completely different. They are friendly - great work and helpful. Open at 7 AM so you can drop your shirts off easily before work. Yes a bit pricey but that is the neighborhood. I bring in 10-12 shirts/ week - for my husband and me and we have never had a problem - nothing lost and nothing damaged. read more

I've been taking stuff there for years. They've made a few mistakes but they're as good as any dry cleaner I have used. Yes they are expensive, but it's a DRY CLEANER and it's CLEVELAND PARK. They have high rent to pay. After you've been a customer for awhile they learn your face and they get your stuff before you even hand them the ticket. If you think about quality of other services in DC, and how they compare, three is probably not enough. But if this was out in the 'burbs where property is cheap I'd expect them to try harder to keep me as a customer. read more

I have been going to Uptown Cleaners for about 10 years. Out of the four dry cleaners in the neighborhood, I found Uptown to be the most affordable and the most service oriented. The owners are always pleasant and have bent over backwards to fix the few mistakes they have made over the years (all related to tailoring). They have never lost or damaged a single item of mine. My one complaint would be that it is still a bit expensive. A trip to ZIPS in Van Ness would get you better bargains, but not the same service. read more

Your page is inaccurate - they don't close at 6 pm on Saturdays. They close at 5 pm!! I found this out the hard way, in the middle of a rainstorm that I got soaked in trying to get there by 6 pm... for no reason. read more

When I went to this place I didn't know I'd be reenacting the drycleaner scene from American Psycho... The women at the front desk were a pain to deal with, difficult to understand, and annoyed that I requested same day service despite their business being advertised as a "1 Hour" drycleaner. That being said, they were able to clean my blazer and trousers in time for my lunch appointment at Hubert's. read more

We started going here after not being 100% satisfied at Cleveland Park Valet. They do a good job, until recently we got three work shirts back with grey stains on the sleeves that hadn't been there before. It seemed like the press they used on the shirts was dirty. We complained and they offered to do it again for free. We cam back and the marks were still there. There seemed to be a miscommunication between the guy who took the shirts back and whoever was supposed to clean them. The third time we came back for the shirts, the stains were almost gone, but not quite. read more

We've been going to this dry cleaner for about 6 years now and think that they're great! We've never had an issue with the quality and they are so nice. (their English is not that bad) We actually moved away for a couple of years and when we moved back to the city, even though we don't live in Cleveland Park anymore, we still go there. I am not sure why everyone else complains here! Its so different from our repeated experiences over the past year and a half. This dry cleaner has saved so many of my favorite garments - even getting out spots years old. They never rip you off like some places, promising to get something out and charging a fortune if they don't. Its so good that we switched from another in the neighborhood that actually has daily pickup from our building - we would rather drop off at Uptown! read more

I use this place all the time - live in the neighborhood and they do great work - whether it's regular dry cleaning, fixing a zipper on a winter jacket, or fixing buttons on a designer sweater (I'm not personally handy). read more

Do not go to this cleaners if you want to get your clothes back. I left a jacket to have a button sewn, a lined skirt for hemming and a dress for hemming. I was told the items would be ready on one week. Exactly one week later I went back and they told me the items were not ready for pick up. I said fine. What they did not tell me was that they had lost the clothes!!! I received a phone call that night from a woman who lives about 35 minutes from me saying she had been given my clothes. She had called the cleaners and was told to leave the clothes out on her porch so they could pick up the clothes at some point. It was raining and my clothes would have been ruined. The skirt is a lined suede skirt and the jacket is lined. Thank goodness the lady who had received my clothes phoned me and I went to pick up the clothes!!! DO NOT TRUST THIS CLEANERS!!!! read more

Two stars for picking up and delivering dry cleaning and because I like their neighborhood spirit. However, they ruined an expensive jacket by melting/shredding the trim then told me it was my fault because it was not real leather. When I asked for a refund on the dry cleaning bill for the item, they told me to just bring in a pair of shoes for a free repair some time. Needless to say, I will not be back. read more
