Upper Crust is a small French bakery in the more suburban parts of Gainesville, farther away from the university. With a wide selection, you can get anything from basic croissants to chaussons and more. Different flavors too from pistachio to apricot, it was pretty overwhelming to go for a first time. When I went, I bought several things, pistachio, apricot, raspberry, pinwheels, all in croissant form. They were all perfectly buttery and flaky, truly delightful. Yesterday I went into Uppercrust Productions for the first time and I really liked everything that I got. I went in on a Sunday afternoon around 3 because my sweet tooth was telling me to go find something sweet. I looked up Yelp and Uppercrust Productions came right up! Uppercrust Productions is located in the same strip that has a Five Guys, Dorns Liquor, Earth Pets, Flying Biscuit and other places as well. They have a large parking lot which makes it super easy to find parking. When you walk in the first thing you see is greeting cards and pastries. Since it was my first time in I wanted to walk around and see everything that they had. I do have to say that if you come here expect to spend some money. I decided to try three different things. First I tried the Eclaire. The Eclaire was good, it was filled with creme and the choux dough tasted great! Only thing is the Eclaire was like $5.25 each. very high price, but it did taste great. I also tried the pecan tart and a bread with peaches on it. The tart was good. I bought 3 items and it was $16.50! Wow, like I said this place is expensive! But the food is fresh and tasted great! I will for sure be back to try more pastries and breads that they have! read more

I especially enjoy their almond butter roses with chocolate, but I don't think I've had anything bad here. They also offer seasonal/holiday items if you're looking for something more unique. It was around 3:30 on a Saturday and almost their entire selection was basically gone. Now it was understandable because they make their breads and pastries fresh. However, I was not happy with the service. The staff never asked us if we needed help. But they had other people, looks like they knew who they were and helped them right away. I had to signal someone down to come get my order. I had a cinnamon bread roll which had nuts inside it. There was no disclaimer that it had nuts. This is by far the best bakery in Gainesville. Today was my first time coming here and I will continue to come here on a regular basis! At first it is very overwhelming with all of the baked goods they have on display. I forgot to get his name but the guy with the blonde hair and a brown beard was super helpful! He was very patient with me and my boyfriend and gave us great recommendations for sweet and savory treats. Everyone in general that worked here was very nice! There is also really cute outdoor seating if you choose to eat here with shade. I cannot recommend this place more everyone should try it out! read more

Carb lovers should definitely make a stop by here! I've never had a bad experience here. Seating is limited since it's more of just a shop. There are a few tables and seats outside the store. Parking is plenty since it is located in a pretty spacious plaza. They have a store and a bakery located inside. It's fun to even just browse around this tiny shop. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Come in early because some items may be out if you come too late. I usually just buy a loaf or baguette and freeze whatever I can't finish. Then, I just take it out of the freezer and pop it in the oven to warm it up. They also sell smaller pastries both savory and sweet. Make sure to double check their hours. Overall, I highly recommend this shop if you're in Gainesville. read more

Back when we had in-person services, i could always tell when that night's challah was from Upper Crust. They are an absolutely top quality bakery, noticeably better than supermarket bakeries. I just went there this afternoon on a whim to pick up a macaron, and their vanilla macaron was honestly so good it made my brain stop. I just stood there leaning against the wall outside in bliss experiencing the taste. So you have got to go try one of these if you are at all a macaron person. (The pumpkin spice one didn't hit me the same way so I don't know what the specific magic was.) They also have a very lovely gruyere croissant, which is good for a small meal. And you can impulse buy gift shop there for little plushies and soaps and things. They have a wine section but I'm more of a mixed drink gal so I don't know how it measures up. My friend gave me a gift card from this place, and I don't know why it's taken me so long to use it, but I am SO glad that I finally got around to it. The place is very vintage looking, and it gives you vibes that you're in a little bakery in Europe. The customer service is TOP NOTCH, the workers here are super kind and attentive :) If you have a salty tooth like me, they have so many options to chose from in terms of the Roses. I'm currently obsessed with the Ham and Gruyere rose. Their coffee- I'm a simple girl and I go with the usual latte, but their hot caramel latte is just perfect. Authentic French bakery that's a solid spot for a quick breakfast. It can get a bit pricey but they have a nice assortment of different breads and pastries. I like their croissants especially the Nutella one. While it tastes great, the Nutella (or any other filling) is concentrated only in a small part in the middle. The majority of the croissant you will just be eating the non filled bread part which is a little disappointing, but overall still good. Their rose's are pretty tasty but they are a little small. My favorite is the ham and gruere. Make sure you ask to warm them up. At the end of the day you feel like you've eaten at a local bakery in France but you've also paid for it as if you were in a tourist spot in Paris monetary wise. Well worth it though. read more

Oh.my. Goodness. This is a bread-lovers paradise. The ham, chive, cheese scone reminds me of the red lobster biscuits but exponentially more filling, flavorful, and dense. And the croissants are so fluffy and buttery, you'll become a croissant snob and never eat another one that's not made fresh. Do not go if you are attempting to maintain any kind of diet because you'll come out with two bags worth of baked goods. The only downside is that it's a little cluttered inside, and there's no where to sit. There are a few small round tables outside if you want to enjoy your treats. Skip the coffee, though. The pastries are delicious and the service is always great. I was just in a few weeks ago to get a fix of their tomato and goat cheese French rose. Emily was so incredibly sweet and helpful while I was there. They recently added an espresso machine and I was in the mood for a chai tea latte. It wasn't listed on the menu, but Emily insisted on making it for me and it was pretty dang good! And when they ran out of an item I ordered, she offered me anything I wanted in the store and continued to check on me during my visit. I've had products from them at both their storefront and their booth at the Hailee Plantation Farmer's Market and was very satisfied with both locations. I especially like their Blueberry and Ricotta Turnovers; they are just the right amount of sweetness and they're so soft and delicious. I've had their Garlic and Rosemary Baguette, which has a really good flavor but eats a little dry. Throw it in the oven with some butter for a couple minutes and it's perfect! I absolutely LOVE Uppercrust. You have to come on a Saturday (1-4pm) when they offer their wine tasting, it is completely worth it. Atmosphere: While there isn't a lot of room to sit or walk around inside, they do offer some seating outside where you can enjoy a good pastry. When you walk in, the smell of freshly baked bread will welcome you and you'll see right away the array of baked goods they have. They have a bunch of cute, random gifts you can buy from olive oil to cute little children's books. In the back is where the wine lovers go, they have shelves of wines from all over. During their tastings on Saturday, a representative comes to tell you the backstory of the wine, the flavors you should be smelling and tasting, and provides great insight into the wine itself. This is great if you're looking into expanding your palette. Service: 5/5 Everyone is just so nice here. They are so welcoming, friendly, and helpful (super knowledgable!). I love the staff! Price: 3.5/5 A little on the pricey side when it comes to their baked goods. But when it's made so deliciously, I don't really mind it. Average price for a pastry is about $5. The wine tasting on Saturdays is $15 per person, and you get to sample all the wines they are showcasing! While it seems expensive, you get that $15 back as a $15 voucher you can spend on ANYTHING in the store. All the wines during the tasting are also an additional 10% off! So essentially, that money comes back to you :) Food: 4/5 My favorite is the almond croissant which has this amazing nutty and sweet filling. The almonds are sprinkled on top with some powdered sugar and the croissant is beautifully flaky, buttery, and delicious. I could eat 3 of those myself. I've also tried their chocolate croissant (which takes me back to my trip in Paris where I ate one of those a day), and their bread. So I just went here with my hubby for some coffee and tea. I stood right there by the cash register for about 5 minutes while I was essentially ignored by staff. One staff member helped another customer who came after me (despite making eye contact with me). And another staff member was about to help another customer when I spoke up and said I was standing there for a while. That employee apologized for the mistake. But then she kinda scolded me for standing in the wrong place because apparently the line starts by the pastries despite there being no signs informing customers. She even went as far to say they have tried telling the owner repeatedly to fix it. But they still have no signs. And then they ran out of cup sleeves. They did double cup to help with the heat but it was still a pretty hot cup. I'm a Black woman and almost everyone in the store was White, including the two White female staff members. I have never felt so unseen and ignored coming into a restaurant. It's frustrating that in this day age, that that happened. The tea and coffee was ok. Uppercrust is my absolute favorite place in all of Gainesville. I've seen reviews that it's over priced. Well, it's not cheap but you get what you pay for. What you get from Uppercrust are phenomenal homemade pastries, breads, and imported cheeses. There is not another place in Gainesville that compares to the quality and deliciousness of Uppercrust. I have never eaten a single thing here that wasn't absolutely extraordinary. The croissants here rival the ones in France and the baguettes are phenomenal and, I think, fairly priced. The staff has never been anything but welcoming and kind. I go in frequently and they all have gone out of their way to be helpful. The ham and gruyere roses are my guilty pleasure. I'm sure there's a week's worth of calories in them but they are one of the most delicious foods I've ever eaten! If you're coming on the weekend, better get here early as this place sells out fast!
