Man this placed lived up to the hype! Popped in close to closing on Sunday night and were warmly greeted by Matt. He didn't rush us and was very quick to help with any questions we had. Friend and I grabbed some shirts, book and patches while enjoying all the great art around the shop. You can definitely (and easily) drop a penny here but absolutely worth it!

Flip the sign if yer closed.

I come from a family of creativity so I've always appreciated art, music, and hella cool t-shirts. And if you know me, you know I have more unique t-shirts than underwear. Seriously I could choose a different tee for everyday of the month. Upper Playground to the rescue! Upper Playground near Haight in San Francisco is the mother of all. It's the original location, founded in 1998. This location is convenient for anyone as street parking is usually available within a couple blocks - remember it's in "not as busy" lower Haight. The company highlights the work of local and international artists such as Sam Flores, Alex Padre, Jeremy Fish, David Choe, and Estevan Oriol. UP has also partnered with Adidas for past collections. Upper Playground has more than just t-shirts, but also long sleeve, hoodies, headwear, caps aka lids, books, dvds, original art, and other "street art" inspired goods. Just note that although the merchandise is popular with the next generation it is not cheap, as t-shirts average nearly $30 each, tho sales are always going on too. One of my fav t-shirts from UP is a San Francisco Giants Baseball inspired of a large walrus styling a SF Giants lid tilted to the side. Haha! Okay you either get where I'm coming from or you don't. It's relaxed wear, so no one should be stressing it, playa! Just be who we want to be. I guess working in corporate America and forced to wear suits on the daily made me appreciate the relax wear of today. Just note there's a difference between being lazy and tossing on last Tuesday's t-shirt and actually choosing an artistic inspired creation for the day. I still have to "dress up" for work nowadays, but every chance I get I'm in t-shirt & jeans. Yes, the t-shirts are hella expensive at Upper Playground, but you have to admit it's hella dope! It's all about self expression & freedom...

Cute stationary and maps.

UP you sure have grown up! It's been a few years since I went into the shop and I was blown away by how much it had grown. The artists showcased here, as well as the UP issued items, are top notch. Being Bay Area born and raised makes it nice to stop in and grab some home squad gear. The choices were overwhelming and I wanted everything. I dialed it back to just one tee - a SJ Sharks tee. The one downgrade - the customer service. Not as on point as it was back in the day. My wife spotted a card in the front case where the register is. I asked that the card be added to the order and the employee happily added it to my order. This morning I opened up the package to check out the card and it's a map. A map. Not what my wife had in mind as she requested a "greeting card" but apparently the employees don't really know what they sell. Price point for gear is standard for street wear so be prepared to pay boutique street wear prices.

I don't usually write reviews, but this one is long overdue. Therapy Stores on Valencia Street is,…read morewithout question, one of the most special places in San Francisco. It's more than just a boutique... it's a warm, welcoming little pocket of joy in the middle of the Mission. One of the reasons I keep coming back (beyond the incredible gift selection and stylish, inclusive clothing) is because of the owner. She's owned this family-run business for over twenty years, and you can feel the love and intention behind everything in the store. She's one of the kindest, most humble people I've ever met, and every interaction with her reminds me why supporting small businesses matters so much. What really blows me away is that she always remembers me. Every time I walk in whether it's been a month or six she greets me by name and asks about my family. She remembers the little things: that my best friend I normally shop with here got engaged, that my dad fell ill last year, even what kinds of gifts I usually gravitate toward. It's such a rare and genuine connection, and it makes shopping there feel personal in a way that big stores could never replicate. Beyond the amazing people, the store itself is beautifully curated. You can find gifts for everyone !! From toddlers to grandparents, quirky coworkers to stylish best friends. Every item feels handpicked, and the range is both thoughtful and playful: hilarious greeting cards, cozy home goods, funky socks, beautiful clothes in all sizes, and unique accessories you won't find anywhere else. It's also incredibly inclusive and community-minded, with products that celebrate all identities, orientations, and body types. In a city that sometimes feels like it's losing its soul to chain stores and tech monotony, Therapy on Valencia is a refreshing reminder of what small business can and should be. A place with character. A place with heart. A place that feels like home.

They have a great selection of quality versions of on-trend items. I've purchased several TNA-brand athleisure items and was very impressed by how warm, comfy and durable they remain over time. CONS: Reading all the negative reviews about certain customers being ignored by staff- now I wonder whether the excellent customer service I receive is not the norm but rather due to my "look". I also wouldn't recommend purchasing their premium knitwear as it's very soft but pills badly for a $100+ sweater. AND THE BIGGEST CON is Aritzia's limited return policy of only offering store credit for returns after 10 days. Aritzia is one of the only luxury retailers with SUCH an inflexible return policy. This absurd policy has discouraged me from buying pricier items. And I'm not the only one because I constantly hear people complaining about how dumb only giving people 10-days to return $200 jeans is!

I initially ordered the gray sweatfleece set (top and bottom), and the packaging was beautiful, neat, and thoughtful. I had to return it because it was too big, but when I reordered, the second package was just as nicely done. Five stars for consistency and care. As for the sweatfleece itself, I love it. The material is thick, warm, and absolutely worth the price. It feels well made and durable, and I can already tell this is something I'll be wearing for years. I know quality when I see it, and this definitely delivers.

Most recently, Dani (sp?) helped me with a return -- she was an absolute gem. I found her to be super patient and helpful, which led me to write this review. She didn't rush through the transaction just to get it done, but rather she talked to me throughout it making it a pretty positive experience. I also recently attended the "Queen" party here and I had a blast. My friend who had never been to Ambiance had a great time as well - I loved that they had the mini-massages, charcuterie and champagne for us! Honestly a 10/10 experience.
