We knew when we saw everyone carrying pizza boxes into Marathon Marina that this place was worth checking. When I walked in the door there was a pizza on every table with sit-in guests. After a friendly conversation with the bartender (owner? Manager?) I left with our pizza 15 minutes later! And we were not disappointed.... delicious, flavourful and cooked to perfection. The barbecue pizza is fantastic and just the right amount of kick from the jalepenos. May be the best barbecue pizza I've had. The crust is nicely crafted and the pizza in general is really very good, especially for a resort area where they don't need to rely on frequently returning customers. We were in Marathon overnight and since we are vegetarians, our restaurant choices are limited (from Key Largo to Key West, it's all about the seafood!) We did a search to "pizza places near me now" and Upper Crust came up. It was close by so we called and ordered a small cheese pizza to be picked up. She said it would be 20 minutes (it was actually less, I think). I ordered it "well done" and the perfectly accommodated that request. The small was reasonably priced (about $12) and it fed 2 of us, with a couple pieces left over. The pizza was really good - the sauce was fresh, and the cheese was good. The crust was perfect - not too thick, not too thin. We really enjoyed eating our pizza by the ocean. When my friend went in to pick it up, she said the person was very nice and pleasant. All good! I'd definitely go here again. FYI: When I am travelling, I base a lot of my restaurant choices on reviewing sites such as Yelp. One thing I liked about Upper Crust was, a person left a detailed, negative review about something that happened in the restaurant. I don't know what happened, but, I saw that the owner left a detailed comment about the review. He took a lot of time to write it and explain the circumstances. I LOVE frequenting small businesses (rather than chains) and I very much appreciate that an owner cares enough to respond to a review (whether negative or positive) - it shows he or she cares about their business. While I appreciate a negative review if someone doesn't like something about a place, I liked what the owner wrote explaining the situation and that's why I decided on this place for my pizza. What I am trying to say is, the owner takes enough pride in his business to take the time to write that response. read more

We ordered food to go we were told they were busy and it would be 30 minute. We arrived 30 later and had to wait over 5 minutes to be given the food. The food was cold and the order was not correct. Our pizza was missing 1/2 the toppings and we were given the wrong dessert. We called the restaurant and spoke to the owner. The owner blamed us for being late ignored the wrong order and hung up on us. We will never go back with the attitude of the owner. All he had to say was sorry. Never blame the customer and hang up. I was sent to pick up pizza for our group and chose this place. I'm very glad I did. The outside isn't much to look at but it's nice inside and the food was just excellent. I got 3 large pizzas --carnivore, bbq chicken and something else . Everyone in the group thought the pizza was wonderful -- better than at any chain place. I also got orders of meatballs (very good) and chips with spinach dip (also very good). The food isn't cheap -- this is the keys after all -- but all 8 of us enjoyed a good meal for right around $100. I don't eat cheese, so when I order a pizza without cheese, I judge how great it is by whether or not it still tastes decent without cheese. It was amazing :) I'd say the pizza crust is somewhere between thin and thick, as I have seen thicker crusts elsewhere. The Key Lime Pie is homemade and excellent as well. We stopped for a medium pizza last night-sausage and pepperoni. It's a smallish place in a strip mall and has a small bar. The first lady that we saw seemed to know no English. We were seated and a gentlemen took our order. I said "thank you" after placing the order, but received no reply. The pizza was pretty good-the sausage had a good taste and the pepperoni was run of the mill with a decent crust. We went in, sat at the bar for an easy 20-30 minutes and didn't even get greeted. Let alone a drink or menu.
