I miss having my soup in a real bowl with a real spoon. Plastic and cardboard is just not working for me.

Fredonia is a small town for sure, but this place is definitely one of its crown jewels! It's a cute little bakery in the middle of the village. The inside is cozy and it draws an array of people. From students at the college to locals, everyone enjoys Upper Crust! I've never gotten their coffee, but their lemonade and hot chocolate are to die for! Neither are overly sweet and they pair nicely with their baked goods and sandwiches. Their breakfast burritos are so flavorful and hit the spot in the morning! Their paninis are also amazing, I'm trying to work through their menu before I graduate this May! Their baked goods, though, are some of my favorite things in Fredonia. Their cinnamon rolls are huge and delicious, their chocolate chip cookies are gooey, and their coffee cakes are on another level. They taste of cinnamon sugar and happiness! I love this place. Fredonia is a bit of a culinary wasteland... but Upper Crust is one of the few gems. Phenomenal baked goods made in house, same for the bread, the soups... pretty much everything that can be made in house is made right in their kitchen and everything is delicious. I always prefer to eat local instead of at a chain, so I decided to go a few miles off the interstate to have lunch at Upper Crust while driving from Niagara Falls to Ohio. My wife and I both think it turned out to be a great idea. I had a tuna sandwich, and she had a roast turkey sandwich. Both were excellent -- the bread was soft and delicious, and my wife thought the roast turkey was most definitely real, not the thin cheap stuff you get out of a package at the grocery. The tuna salad had olives in it, which I thought was odd before trying, but I gave it a go anyway and loved it. The desserts looked great, but I didn't try any of them. The space is simple but fashionable. You order at the counter and then take a seat anywhere. The food came out in just a few minutes. It is clean and neat, and the staff are very nice. I went to college in Fredonia 13-15 years ago, and I went to Upper Crust A LOT. After trying many other sandwich places and bakeries (even in NYC), Upper Crust is still a destination eatery for me. I'm going to do a few rebuttals. One reviewer thought $9.00 for a sandwich was too much. I've had $15.00 sandwiches at Katz's in NYC with NOTHING ON THEM except for meat. The bread at Upper Crust is homemade and the ingredients are fresh. The sandwich is ginormous, I can't eat a whole one. A half-sandwich for $4 and change is enough to fill you. I will pay such prices for excellence and quality. Go to McDonald's if you don't like it. Another reviewer complained about no French bread. Yes, that would be nice, but I doubt it would sell well considering the demographic. Go to Buffalo for that. Wait, I can't really recall from-scratch bakery french bread in Buffalo (I lived there for four years), unless you buy it from Wegmans. Limited selection? Maybe, but the stuff they do, they do really really well. And it's really consistent. (I ate there 9/25/12, five years after the last time I ate there. Exactly as I remember it.) There is only so much of a budget for ingredients. You can't spread yourself too thin. You end up shorting yourself on quality and consistency. As for the potato rolls, hmmm. They were mighty yummy. It would probably be nice to have them all the time, but maybe it's just not feasible anymore. Consider our crappy economy and what it's done to the restaurant industry. When I lived in Fredonia, I would buy a loaf of bread and walk home, tearing off chunks and stuffing them in my mouth. It is THAT GOOD. Local cafe that's a staple of Fredonia. It's been around for years and the quality hasn't change. Their soups are to die for everyone raves about their creamy potato, but not being a fan of creamy soups I prefer their veggie or turkey veggie. It almost has a sweet taste to it! I can honestly say it's my all time favorite soup. The sandwiches are served on homemade bread with top quality meats. Cafe has a peaceful but active ambiance with plenty of places to settle for a morning of well-selected roasts and tasty pastries. The ones I really liked were called "clouds" - kind of like a blueberry muffin/scone thing with frosting that you may have dreamed about. Met a group for lunch. Wish I could give this place 5 stars because the food was very good but with the increase in everything due to COVID I expected more. There is only 1 price marked on all that they serve. $9 for a salad and when you went to pay staff said the price was $11 and the sign has not been changed yet. Nothing else was marked, not breakfast items, sandwiches, bakes goods or coffee. I also asked for a decafe coffee and was told they don't have decaf. I was shocked this is a bakery!!! As I mentioned, everyone was happy with their food as well as baked goods unfortunately we did cut it short because the air was not working very well and everyone was uncomfortably warm. Wow! What a gem of a find! Made a quick pit stop on our way to Niagara Falls and I am so excited to find this spot! It's a bit small but incredibly cute and comfy feeling. It's almost a little community feel and your table is right next to your neighbors. The bread is incredible! A nice crisp crust with a melt in your mouth Center. I had the turkey sandwich and it was one of the best I've ever had! The mayo was also excellent and homemade. I also had the potato soup and wow! A half sandwich and bowl of soup is so filling and it just hits the spot. It's simple ingredients coming together perfectly. I also tried the lavender lemonade and it is the bomb! I am obsessed with all things lavender and this did not disappoint! The lemonade is homemade and just the right amount of sweet and tart and the lavender adds just a very light floral note and is not at all over powering which I was a bit afraid of. The prices are reasonable for the quality and amount of food. If you're in the area or are traveling 90 take the extra two miles and stop. You will not be disappointed! read more

I stopped by for a cappuccino. After placing my order four more customers came in. So the cashier decided to stop making my order to take the orders from the other customers. After waiting 10 minutes I get my drink, which tasted very bitter and also had coffee grounds in it. Disappointing. read more

During a day out in the country (yes, Fredonia is "the country" to me... don't judge) a bunch of friends and I stopped in this adorable sandwich shop for lunch. The setting is lovely and the people behind the counter are all friendly and helpful. I had the "Tommy Club" which was not a "club" sandwich at all (which is supposed to have three slices of toasted bread cut into triangles), but rather just a sandwich on untoasted bread. Very good homemade thickly sliced bread, but perhaps a bit too soft because all of the ingredients kept squishing out. It was jammed packed (yes, that's a good thing) with FRESHLY ROASTED turkey breast, bacon (previously cooked and refrigerated), letttuce, wonderful ripe tomatoes, onion, and two types of cheese (American and provolone) and slathered with mayo. It was a very good sandwich. They also serve salads and soups and pizzas and "egg-rritos" and paninis.... and there's a bakery case filled with wonderful looking (and judged by the ooohs and aaahs) of my table-mates wonderful tasting baked goods. And, there's a complete coffee bar with enough hot and cold choices to rival any "Starbucks". Cute, yummy, and independently owned. Fantastic! (Just please, don't call it a "club"). read more

But...I was SHOCKED at the AMAZING cupcakes and cookies here. WOW...if you are passing through upstate NY on your way to Eerie, PA and you want an amazing treat off of the highway a few minutes, then I highly highly recommend this place. I really wanted to love this place as it does have some vegan options. I only tried the vegan breakfast burrito, but it was super bland. The ingredient list is good. But none of them have any salt, pepper, or spices. I didn't taste any spinach or vegan cheese. Lots of salsa saved it somewhat. I also tried a vegan chocolate chip cookie, which was loaded with chocolate, too much so. And had chips of salt on the bottom. Too chocolatey and salty for my taste but not horrible. I'm not the biggest fan of turkey, but the thick slices of turkey were so good. Welcomed merge of hometown integrity and big city creativity. We tried the recommended 'cloud' pastries- one raspberry, one blueberry. Lighter than a scone, though similar in appearance. Less dense than a biscuit, but similar in taste. Fruity like a pie, but slightly less gloppy (good gloopy!!!). They were unique and delicious and definitely merit a second taste when I'm in the area. Many other fine looking pastries of the more traditional description. The aroma of butter and sugar in the air suggests to me they would all probably be delicious. They offered a couple of ice coffee flavors, and the ability to create and mix your own flavor. This was very welcome on a hot summer day.
