Just went to the Upper Crust and got my favorite sandwich, turkey on eight grain. It was absolutely horrible. The bread just fell apart as I was eating it, it was stale and just tasted gross. The prices are extremely expensive. This place really went downhill. I won't be back. read more

Let me be clear, there was nothing wrong with the service, food, or ambiance. The turkey slices were thick and tasty. The 8-grain bread is healthy. It's just that I remember the days of the Neapolitan pizza and white bread and a fuller menue. The sandwiches are served without sides--no chips, even for sale separately. The decor has been updated, thankfully, since the new management. It just seems like there is less now. Fewer options in the bakery case, fewer menu options. Cute little coffee shop right in he middle of things on Main Street. We stopped in after having lunch down the street and were pleased with everything. The decor is minimal, but inviting. The whole front wall is a window with a seating nook on each end. I absolutley love places with these books as they are such great places to people watch! We sat outside at one of the few tables they had because it was just too nice of a day to sit inside. There were a good selection of pastries and a delicious looking food menu, but as we had just finished lunch we stuck to coffee. My husband had a cappuccino and I ordered the iced lavender latte off of the seasonal menu. Just a note, I love all things lavender flavored, but it is a flavor a lot of people don't care for in coffee. So bear this in mind if you decide to try it. It's probably the flavor you don't like, not the drink that was made for you. We were both happy with our drinks and would recommend stopping in here if you are in town! read more

Stopped here for lunch on a drive from Niagara Falls to Pittsburgh. Very small and was packed. Menu was small but plenty of options ranging from soup to salad to sandwiches, and a nice selection of beer and wine. Ordered two half sandwiches and a bowl of soup. Was told there would be a 20 minute wait but ended up being closer to 40. There was a sign advertising that the place is short staffed so I have sympathy in this current environment, but it was hard to deal with while my 7 year old was hangry and I likely would have gone elsewhere if the wait time listed was accurate. Also thought the counter staff was very unfriendly but I'm sure this also has to do with being short staffed. Food was delicious and that's why I'm giving it 4 stars. We had the turkey vegetable soup, ham and Swiss panini, and turkey sandwich. I would inhale a loaf of the bread it came on as well. Maybe it's just because we were starving from waiting for so long... but the food was worth the wait. Staff should do what they can to get wait times more accurately listed though. read more

I've been here several times - before and after covid. The espresso drinks are always reliably good. The tomato mushroom soup is delicious. The bread served with the soup is delicious too. The atmosphere is minimal and I like it better since their redo - less college grungy - a new, nicer look after their renovations. The tables are often not wiped off which is something they could improve upon. The staff is usually impolite. It feels like it's an imposition to come in for lunch. This was the situation before covid as well. The staff also literally YELLS out when an order is ready. This place could be managed better. Also, it's time to get back to real dishes and silverware. It's a good place to go if you want espresso in the area, and I do love their soup. One of those spots where you know what you're going to get - good drinks and food but nothing warm or welcoming past that. read more

Upper Crust used to be a five-star joint, but ownership recently changed hands a few things need to change to get back to that rating. Generally, I order the crust special (side salad, bowl of soup and a piece of bread). The tomato mushroom soup is absolutely out of this world. If you are going to start with something, that should be it!! The apple-cider vinaigrette salad dressing was also absolutely delicious- so fresh and flavorful. Here's the issue...my bread was hard. It tasted like they had previously cut the bread and let it sit out in the air, thus making it hard. The bread for meals should be cut immediately before serving so that this doesn't happen. There is usually a wide-selection of baked goods-I personally like the double-chocolate "drop" cookies, but I haven't really had a bad treat here. There is water available, along with a wide-variety of coffee beverages. There is a back and a front entrance (back has more parking!). read more

Our entire group enjoyed the meal from the Upper Crust Bake House. The choices provided were great for all parties and the size of the portions were excellent. I had the Tomato Mushroom Soup with a Ham and Cheese Panini and they were a great combination. The soup was some of the best tomato soup I have ever had. The other's in my party had the Garden Veggie soup and Tommy Club and they thought those items were wonderful as well. The sandwiches had just the right amount of ingredients and utilizing roasted turkey as opposed to lunch meat turkey was a wonderful extra. The staff is always very sweet and accommodating but the food is just fine. I got an egg sandwich and there was a lot of egg (overwhelming in my opinion) and not enough of anything else. It was just unseasoned egg and bread. I will always go back the Turkey panini though and the vibes in there are always nice. Cute little cafe. read more

I was a regular customer here. My friends and I made this cafe our go-to for breakfast, and lunch. Everything is exceptional! That all changed this week, with their customer service. A friend found a piece of hair in her sandwich two weeks ago. We didn't speak up because things like this happen by mistake. We ordered again this week. Another hair, baked into a scone. I decided to reach out to Upper Crust, just in case someone wasn't following hair net protocols or management wasn't overseeing something in the kitchen. I reached out to let them know. Not for a refund, a replacement, or a gift card. Just to tell my favorite lunch spot that hair has been found multiple times. I sent them a message on Instagram, so I could send a picture of the hair hanging from the scone. (They are VERY active on Instagram, and I've personally asked them specific questions about menu items, so I knew this was a decent place to reach out.) They read it, saw the picture, and said nothing. I thought I'd give 24 hours .. people are busy, especially business owners. I "liked" all 10 story posts on their Instagram today, and they saw that too. It's now 30 hours later, and nothing. All I was looking for was an "I am so sorry this happened. I will double check our safety protocols with the kitchen staff today." That's it.. and I got nothing. It's unfortunate that my friends and I have lost our favorite lunch spot due to poor customer service. read more

Always have loved Upper Crust, especially for their soups and bakery items. The restaurant recently was sold to new owners and most of the food seems to be the same but they have "updated" a bit with fancy wood serving boards and better salad options coming soon. My favorite is the creamy potato soup and the chunks of fresh bread it comes with! We used to also love the cherry turnovers and oatmeal raisin cookies but I didn't see those being available anymore! I would give this place 10 Stars if I could. I love this sandwich shop. I live in Buffalo, but anytime I'm nearby I have to go there! Sometimes I'm tempted just to drive there for a sandwich. I always order the Wally (turkey sandwich with apples) because is just so good!!! I think the sandwiches are amazing because they have their own fresh homemade bread, I've taken a few people here and they love it too. I'm not even a huge sandwich person, but this place is just so good. The roasted turkey panini was also really good. I ordered the strawberry basil lemonade which was fantastic and my partner ordered the iced salted caramel latte which was fantastic as well. Highly recommend this place! Oh, and if you're lucky, they may have homemade bread you can buy! You might have to ask. Oh, I almost forgot, we ordered a chocolate brownie which was amazing! Great customer service as well. Small shop with some inside and some outdoor seating, we ended up setting up a trunk picnic with our folding chairs in the shade which was fun. read more

I was headed from Jamestown to West Seneca earlier today and decided to stop at the Upper Crust in Fredonia for lunch. I accidentally closed out the online ordering sheet so when I called the restaurant back, the employee let me place my order and give my credit card information over the phone. I ordered a large (hot) mocha drink, a crazy cheese panini, and a cinnamon roll. The mocha was good. I enjoyed it. The crazy cheese panini comes in a whole or half. I ordered a whole sandwich. It came on eight grain bread. You can get it on white too. The inside of the sandwich had homemade garlic butter, Asiago cheese, American cheese, shredded cheddar, Swiss cheese, and provolone cheese. It had chopped tomatoes and purple onions. It was really great. I think next time I'll try it on white bread or try another one of their awesome offerings. I was talking to the one employee. She told me that they have new ownership and were remodeling. I loved the new decor. My sandwich was in one of those boxes that are good for the environment. The employee had wrapped my sandwich in foil before placing it in the box. I'm not sure if this is how they always do things for their takeout orders, or if she did it for me because she knew I had a long drive ahead of me. I thought it was really kind. My order came to $20.04 for the sandwich, cinnamon roll, and mocha. It was more than worth it, especially since the cinnamon roll will last me awhile. We've been going to UC for years - before and after the recent owners took over. It's been well over a year since we've had it and today, my husband surprised us and brought it home to Orchard Park. Excited to eat my favorite sandwich (The Wally), I open the box only to find they now use your basic deli Turkey and no longer the freshly sliced thick Turkey meat. WARNING TO ALL VETERANS!!! Let me please tell you what happened: I went to the Upper Crust Bake House in Fredonia this past weekend when I went to see the musicians perform at the "Rockin' at the Commons" event. The musicians were excellent!! Anyway, I waited in line at the Upper Crust Bake House while the person at the register made it a point to explain everything to the customers, quite nicely, I might add. When it was my turn to make an order, the person at the register, said, quite abruptly, "I'll be with you in a few minutes". I figured "OK, it is sort of busy and she needs to tend to other orders for a minute or two". Well, this person made it a point to avoid me for a lot more than a minute or two, even to the point to assist the Barista on duty, while ignoring me with money in my hand. Finally the Barista, who was quite nice and respectful, took my order. So guess what? As soon as my order was over, the regular person at the register returns and starts to take care of customers behind me. Why would this happen??? The only reason why I think this would happen is because I was wearing a cap that said "US Army Veteran". If I am wrong, please correct me Upper Crust Bake House! I have no idea why I would garner such disrespect from an employee (or is it the owner) of the Upper Crust Bake House. I posted a review similar to this on Google Maps and it has been removed!! So I will go to other websites to explain my experience. Well, guess what "Karen the Veteran Hater", I served so you could have the right to be an asshole to any customer you want to. The new menu here is excellent! Plenty of vegan gluten free options. I had a make your own warm bowl. You get up to two options for your base and five toppings. All the dressings are also vegan gluten free. There are sweet treats for those with food preferences and the vegan gluten free chocolate chunk cookie did not disappoint. We stopped in for lunch and it is a hit. Fabulous soup and sandwiches with a roasted turkey cheddar panini where the turkey was clearly hand sliced off the bird. The Tomato Mushroom soup was sweet at first and then a hint of a burn. Then you dip the panini in the soup and you are wondering if you can just stay until you get hungry again so you can have more. Upper Crust is one the of local gems in Fredonia. I have been enjoying their food and coffee since 2010 when I first came to Fredonia for college. Although they have had a change in ownership the recipes have stayed the same and the inside got a huge upgrade. When my family is in town from long island they almost always request Upper Crust for at least one meal. I suggest the tomato mushroom soup and the wally sandwich. read more
