I have been to this place a couple times since it reopened under new ownership. I used to enjoy it as a kid (as did everyone in the area) I also worked at its competitor in the next town over for 7 years. So when I tell you, I know burgers, fries and dogs, I really mean it lol First, the remodel was very needed. The place was nostalgic, yes. But it the cleanliness was becoming a glaring issue. This place now looks just as good as it tastes. The burger and hotdog are always grilled perfectly. The Large curly fry was ginormous! Enough to feed a family of four. There were three of us and we barely put a dent in it. Yes-it's expensive. Just as everything is now. Thats not the restaurants fault. Their costs are up, our go up. If you don't want heavily processed foods from McDonald's or burger king then you will unfortunately have to pay for it. Whenever I come back to town I always look forward to a Sullivan visit. It's an honest 12:30/1:00 PM, and that is when we start thinking about it... food I mean . . lunch.time. Dinner's at 6:30 (earliest) and probably closer to 7:00/7:30 PM so what are we going to do until then? Sullivan's CB answers that question. Burgers (the char broil) obviously other worldly. Also the fries are quite nice, and you can get a really great fountain soda, not to mention the sweet treat offerings (in the form of frozen cream) One thing - there is a robust condiment bar at the back, and when they say push lightly for the beef gravy they mean it. I splattered it all over my shirt (after what I thought was a light pump) and had to walk out with beef gravy all over myself. The good thing is it came out easily in the wash. Tried the place for the first time today, won't be back. Prepaid & added a $10 tip. Expensive & small portions which would have been okay, except the counter person didn't ring up a portion of our order. When asked about the missing cheeseburger, she looked at the other employees and then told me that it was my fault because it wasn't ordered. And then tried to blame it on my son, saying he didn't want the cheeseburger. Funny because my husband was the one who ordered the cheeseburger. However we did receive the items that were ordered before & after the cheeseburger. Then she stuck a plain hamburger at me, and I said it's supposed to be a cheeseburger with everything. I was going to wait, then she said she would bring it right out to the table. We waited... and waited..., then the cook comes out to the table, without the cheeseburger, and said we didn't pay for it. We would have been happy to pay for it, except the whole ordeal was just exhausting & handled all wrong. We took back the rest of the order uneaten & said we would go elsewhere. Had the Fish Fry. Battered fish tasted greasy and therefor not appealing. Cole slaw fresh, what I could taste, the portion cup was so small. I ordered onion rings as a treat and they were also very greasy. A very small helping of macaroni, fresh, and a drink. $20! Won't buy that again. Better up your game. People do notice. Pullease! I have been going here since I was a kid. It just isn't the same as it used to be. A small fry the size of a small at McDonalds was $3.50 and a small shake $7.00 and a hotdogs $6.75. I stop in every few years or so whenever I visit my hometown. Had a Zweigles hotdog this time and it was fabulous. Charred to perfection! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because my favorite item- the soft serve raspberry ice cream, had a slightly different flavor. It used to be heaven in a cone, now it was just "alright." Nothing special. They must have changed suppliers or the formula because a true soft serve connoisseur like myself immediately could tell the difference. Obligatory Sullivan's trip! Everything was awesome- it was PACKED because it was a Friday evening. We had a larger group of 8 of us. Tables overflowing with burgers, curly fries and drinks. Unfortunately, our curly fries were a little on the soggy side this time around. I think they were just trying to decrease turn around time.. Next time, I'll order them crispy/well done. Caveat emptor. New owners.I was looking forward to a fish fry from Sullivan's, It was, however, disappointing. In the past, it was always tasty and perfectly prepared. Not so recently. Fish was over-cooked to the point of being rock-hard and dry. Batter showed it appeared and tasted like it was cooked in "old" oil. Fries, ordered "extra crispy" were still cold inside and hardly crispy, let alone "extra crispy." All was not lost. Macaroni salad, my second side, tasted just like my mom's; a delightful surprise and the tiny container of cole slaw tasted freshly made. The container of tartar sauce tasted old and slightly rancid. When the Ed Sullivan show went off air, people wondered what happened to Ed. Well, now we know. He moved to sunny, exotic Fredonia, and devoted his life to making charbroiled hot dogs and hitting on SUNY Fredonia girls. Speaking of which, I knew a girl at SUNY Fredonia once. She knows who she is because I only dated one girl from that school (unlike most schools around the state/country/world). She was wonderful! One of my fave gfs ever. So, hi! (waves) What to get: Hot Dogs. What else: Ice Cream, Shakes. I'm not crazy about the burgers here, but I am absolutely crazy about the hot dogs. I found them to be some of the juiciest, yummiest fast food dogs I've had. It was nicely smoked and a little charred and is probably my fave place in Fredonia for food, although honestly, there aren't many options all the way out here. I have yet to try their ice cream or shakes, but next time I come in, I'll rectify that. Also I heard that they just switched owners. Wow. I have a stomach ache as I leave this place. Lucky I'm not driving. This was so shocking to us. It was like a picnic, not a restaurant. We ordered the burgers and they were pre-cooked, and not even reheated to 1/2 of where they should have been. The buns were straight outta the bag! Pathetic. We were so hungry. Sullivan's is a classic that any true Dunkirk or Fredonia native would recognize. I remember coming to this restaurant after summer soccer practices and ordering a burger, curly fries (with malt vinegar), and ice cream with my grandparents. It's great food for relatively good prices that beats out the uninspired fast food chains down the road! The service is typically personable and friendly. Parking was confusing as the lines that "are there" are faded so I was kind of worried that someone would block me in. Tl;dr Average sit down dining prices for fast food meal. Confusing parking. First off the menu is a house of lies...small, medium, large? I don't think so pal! Ordered medium fries and got a mountain of curlys, medium shake and it was more like Big Gulp, small fingers and though not huge definitely not a small. Guess what I'm trying to say is figure out how much you want and order smaller because the proportions are big. Ok - let's set the record straight - this place is NOT fine dining - it is THE place for the best milkshakes and ice cream around though! I've read talk about great burgers - they are good - great fries - they are good - great service - they are good - great prices - they are good. Everything about this place is good and it's been good day after day - year after year and they've never drifted below or above being really good. If every seat in the place is taken you'd have a hard time finding a parking place. Typically parking isn't an issue though. If you run out of cash - stop somewhere else and get more, because no matter how hungry you are and no matter how good they are - they don't accept any form of credit! The place is normally pretty clean - though I've been there when tables have been a bit on the sticky side. There have also been times when there might have been one too many flies buzzing around. But overall - unless you've really hit a off day for the Sullivan - you will enjoy your trip here. I do agree that it would be extremely nice if they'd incorporate an outdoor patio - but then again - they've have even a bigger issue with parking - so I really think they have to keep on doing what they've been doing for many years and that's putting smiles on people's faces and inches on their waistlines! This place could get my five star rating if they accepted credit cards or lowered their prices. Sullivan's is one of the top places I'm going to miss when I move away. The owners are super friendly and the food is great. It makes you feel like you went through a time warp, to a time when credit cards didn't exist and people weren't complaining about gas prices. The food prices are good for what you get. Quality and quantity. The curly fries are excellent and a small order gets you a crispy, heaping pile. I've tried several things on the menu, from the garden burger to the italian sausage to the grilled chicken sandwich and more, and I have never been disappointed. They also offer a homemade hot sauce, which was made for the hot dogs I believe, but you can get it on anything and I highly recommend it. If you're in the mood for dessert, Sullivan's also has ice cream and giant milkshakes. The ice cream comes in hard scoops or soft serve and they usually have a new flavor of soft serve every so often. Beware of the milkshakes, because a small actually comes in a pretty large cup and the medium and large are basically tubs. But they are soo good. You can mix flavors too! Go for the peanut butter banana. Also, every single employee seems to be always doing something. Right after customers leave their tables, they are there thoroughly wiping them down (including the benches!) and sweeping the floors. I hope this place stays in business forever. I will continue to visit it every time I come to Fredonia. I do also think they should get an outdoor patio. That would be the perfect touch! read more

Also, (I have lived in this town all of my 57 years on earth) and it is a staple in our town. But, please notice when you go in there............all teenagers. This is one of those restaurants that literally hasn't changed since 1972. It's like stepping in to a time warp. I visit the area fairly frequently from the west coast, and typically eat here just about every single day of the trip. The been on weck is pretty good, and dirt cheap.
