While discussing with my partner how many keys we needed. a very rude skinny man with a baseball cap on basically told me to shut up as "he" could only talk with one person at a time. I had to bite my tongue as I wanted to call him out on his rudeness. He took the keys and seemed to be having a hard time creating duplicates for us. Finally he gave us our keys, we paid and left. On getting home, four of the six keys were not cut properly and did not work in their locks. I called the store and guess who answered? Yep, this rude individual who now started interrupting me; Not letting me speak. "Just bring them back. I don't need to hear what your saying. I might not be here anyway". Needless to say I will not be returning to this store ever again.

I was simply buying screws to attach legs to a table top. I explained that the table top was about 1.0-1.5 inches thick (so I would need screws that are shorter than this). The staff person, a thin guy, maybe 40 yrs old, wearing a baseball cap and a goatee, kept giving me ridiculously long screws, as if he wasn't listening to me at all OR deliberately messing with me. He gave me 4 inch, then 3.5 inch, then 3 inch, then 2.5 inch, then 2 inch screws, even after clearly showing him the thickness of the table top on a ruler that was right in front of him. Moreover, his manner was despicably rude and condescending, sneering every time I said I needed something shorter. Feeling pressured to just get out of there, I ended up buying screws that are probably too long. This person should not be in a customer service role at all! Indeed, he should be terminated as soon as possible! As another recent reviewer noted, it's "not the Dudley's it used to be."

However, I don't like going there and usually go to the Home Hardware on Yonge Street just south of St. Clair. The bad impression that I and other reviewers have received at Vaughan is down to one individual who sems to have a problem beyond how he feels about customers. I think he would be happier if he didn't have to deal with us, and so would we.

This is exactly why I go to Home Depot, where returning something isn't an issue, where they don't sell garbage products for crappier prices. After he called me "fucking useless", he said, "don't buy tools you don't know how to use". So a little description here, I am an Asian female. But little did he know, I'm actually a contractor. This store was closest to my job site and I needed a rotary saw but the best they had was some toy jig saw that wouldn't work for the project, so I returned it and got insulted by him. I'm sure that if one of my white male employees were to go in to return a tool, this would've been a very different scenario. On top of calling me "fucking useless" and "don't buy tools you don't know how to use", when I told him he was racist and sexist, after agreeing with me, he tried to take the credit card machine from me and deny me my refund. I had to grab it back from him and tap my credit card to get my refund. That was illegal what he did. I've contacted Home Hardware's head office but they have not responded and/or have done anything about it. They pride themselves on being Canadian but then act racist and sexist. Supporting this business is supporting a self proclaimed racist, since on video, where I recorded the incident, he admitted saying, "yah, I'm a little racist".

It's unfortunate they can't expand easily but I often order specific items from the Home Hardware website and have it delivered to my neighbourhood location. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and eager to help solve problems. I wish their staff included handymen for hire because I often need a small job done that would have been done by my dad before he passed away. I am a browser so having a good amount of stock and sale items would entice me to visit more often.

Today, I visited the store to buy something, but when I arrived, the door wasn't locked and there was no one inside. I called out several times, saying "Hello, hello," but nobody responded. Concerned that something might have happened, I went a little further inside and called again, "Hello, is anybody here?" One of your staff members, a tall man, suddenly ran over and shouted at me, asking, "Why did you come in? If the lights are off, it means the store is closed." I apologized, explaining that I didn't know that, but he was very rude and told me to leave, saying, "The store is closed, get out of my store." However, the store was supposed to close at 5 p.m., and it was only 4:03 p.m. at the time. I waited outside for 2-3 minutes and then went back in to ask for the manager. The door still wasn't locked. When I re-entered, the same man opened the door, saw me, and immediately closed it again. I asked for the manager, and he claimed that he was the manager. When I asked for his name, he refused to give it to me. This is highly disrespectful to customers and reflects very poor service. I am considering filing a complaint with Human Rights regarding this issue. No staff member should speak to a customer with that kind of attitude. I look forward to your response and will be following up on this matter.
