If you're in Bloomington and looking for a place that combines great food with even better beer, Upland Brewing is a must-visit. We stopped in for a casual dinner and left completely impressed by the flavor, atmosphere, and quality of everything from the pulled pork to the porter. The pulled pork was tender and full of rich, smoky flavor--perfectly balanced with a tangy barbecue sauce that didn't overpower the meat. It was clear this dish was crafted with care and attention to seasoning and texture. Next up: the fish and chips. The beer batter was crisp and golden, surrounding flaky white fish that was fresh and well-cooked. The fries were hearty and seasoned just right--comfort food elevated to pub perfection. We also tried the hamburger, and it did not disappoint. Juicy, cooked to order, and served on a toasted bun with all the classic fixings--it's the kind of burger that makes you pause between bites to appreciate how good it is. And of course, no trip to Upland is complete without a pint of their Bad Elmer's Porter. This dark, roasty brew was the star of the evening--smooth, slightly smoky, with notes of chocolate and coffee. It paired beautifully with every dish and showcased why Upland has such a strong reputation for their beer. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed but lively, and the whole experience felt authentically local. Upland Brewing is a true gem in Bloomington, and whether you're a craft beer lover or just hungry for great food, you won't leave disappointed.

I have had so many great beers from Upland finally got to try the taproom! The sours, tarts, fruited stuff is amazing, wow the craft, anyone with berry and citrus and that ripe zesty orchard in their ale must come here. As it happened, I needed something darker instead of the sensational Two of Harts or Petal to the Kettle. Took home a Bad Elmer Porter in a growler, this is the right mood for curing loneliness and feeling blue on the bright blue July days. It is annoying street parking, though wide open, is costing money. Bloomington is such an odd small city thinking it's the state capital! Was happy to see a fun collection of customers chatting it up, staff is very friendly, I would be a regular if not two hours away!

I'm so conflicted about this review. A friend and I came for a bird and brews event and got dinner afterward. Initially it was a little frustrating because service was slow and we felt kind of ignored until we realized our server seemed to be the only one actually working. The rest of the staff seemed to just be hanging around (at one point it seemed like staff was just sitting at the bar talking maybe I was reading it wrong and they had just gotten off?) but we were frustrated on behalf of our server. She was just doing her best. The food itself was really good I absolutely decimated my burger and the champagne velvet is now one of my favorite beers. However, it was just a bad look watching our server take orders and serve food to every table while other staff were doing nothing. I really have enjoyed other upland locations so I hope this was just a one off but definitely not my best upland experience.

Absolutely delicious! My grandparents and I went today for lunch. None of us had been to the original upland in forever! Like years! So we gave it a try. And I'm so happy because being a gluten free girly, I had the pork chop which was delicious and was able to help grandma out with some of her nachos which are also gluten free! Grandpa got a salad which he finished. Will be back soon for another healthy and tasty meal!

We came here as we were driving through and loved this place. When I searched for gluten-free, I didn't find a lot in the yelp reviews, but there were a few things on the menu such as a few salads and a burger, but I was just looking for a burger so this place was perfect My burger came on a gluten-free bun was well done. The place had a cool vibe even though it was empty, but we came at 3 PM on a Tuesday The staff was cool and I would definitely come back

Good beer. Love the outdoor area. Pleasant place, but food is marginal to not edible. Stick to fries and you will be ok.

For drinks, cocktails (and a few mocktails) and a smaller selection of wine are also available. I wanted to get beer but I was kind of tempted by the cocktails. My first choice was a flight that included a mix of The Tap beers and guest beers, but the waiter came back after taking the order and told me that they could only do flights with their beers but could let me sample the beers I wanted to try, so I did that, and the samples were probably around 2 oz each so I basically got half a flight. After that, I ended up ordering a real flight of their beer. The Tap beers I tried were: Kill the Lights stout (regular and barrel-aged), Tapenator dark lager, Frost Bite winter ale, Nefarious Nectar blonde. Guest beers: Jacob Leinenkugel white mocha stout, Weihanstephaner Hefeweissbier, BrewDog Winter Staycation. Not going to waste space reviewing all of these, but they were all fantastic. I was really grateful that they let me sample so many! And they also have food. The menu isn't huge but does have some variety, and it's not just basic pub food. I had the ahi tuna crunch bowl and it was pretty good! It kind of had the vibe of stuff thrown together in a poke bowl, but it worked and I thought the fish was done really well. Our waiter was wonderful! He was really friendly and just the right amount of attentive. My friend and I stayed for a while talking after we had paid and he didn't rush us out at all. Granted, it was a pretty quiet night. We both really liked the vibe of the place. I would love to be back soon!

So here's how the tap came out: It was a busy Saturday night. Easy to grab a high top, but being over 30 - it's not fun sitting on a bar stool. That's fine. The service - like I said, they were busy. But one of my friends never even got his drink, and he ended up telling the waitress to cancel it because we were already eating our fries. The fries - - 4 dipping sauces equals 5 stars! Love the ability to try different flavors and find your fav. My fav is the pesto aioli because its unique! I give the seasoning 4 stars, and it was a little heavy handed, and kind of overpowered the sauces. Texture was good, some were a lil soggy, overall they were good! I've had the other food at the tap, and always enjoyed myself. Definitely worth a visit - but be prepared if they're super slammed!

So while we were in town to drink cocktails at Cardinal Spirits and have some wine at Oliver Winery, we also decided to stop at Upland for some beer. Cover all our alcohol bases, you know? :-P Anywho, the Wood Shop is the tap room and brewing facility right next door to Upland Brewing Co. We got there just a liiiiittle too late for a tour. But it is never too late for a flight! I love sours. LOVE them. So the menu excited me! Our server, Adam I believe, was friendly and patient with us (most of us being a tidbit tipsy since this was our fourth stop of the day!) I really enjoyed all the beers I tried. I honestly couldn't tell you a favorite! We were also able to call in an order for food from next door, pick it up and eat it at the Wood Shop. The space is big and it is fun to drink among the barrels, it is clean and looks brand-spanking new. I only wish Bloomington was closer to Louisville, so I could visit more often.

The server, well dressed and groomed arrived immediately and took our drink order. We ordered an appetizer- the pretzels arrived in perfect timing (All ticket times were excellen, not too fast, not too slow). Pretzels were crisp and soft inside like they are supposed to be made with two excellent sauces. The grilled chicken dinner with broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes my fiancee had she said was cooked just right. Broccoli not hard or soggy, just right, chicken well but moist and excellent potatoes taste and texture. My fish and chips served a generous portion of fish with tasty cole slaw. I had asked for the fries crispy and the cook made them just right. I'm very picky about my fries and these were the best I've had in a very long time. Refills were provided without having to ask. Which brings us to the service. Emma our server was superb. She was friendly, professional and extremely efficient. I admit we had several requsts for sauces, extras, etc and she met every request quickly and with a smile. Also, a manager was walking the floor and greeted us after our drinks were brought. Prices are also a bit lower than chains serving similar fare. 5-stars plus.

So I selected riblets and shrimp. You had to choose one entree to begin with so I chose riblets. Unfortunately when I requested shrimp after finishing my riblets, it was 25 minute wait before the server brought out a large plate with only 6 pieces of small fried shrimp. The waiter said that 6 shrimp was all that he could bring out at a time. OMG I was so shocked because my guest started out with a large plate of shrimp and then requested riblets and was brought out 2 large and thick pieces of riblets. I requested the Manager on duty to explain why I only received 6 pieces of shrimp after waiting over 25 minutes. She stated: "what do you want me to do, we only have one cook back there." She was very curt and unapologetic. She then stated she could bring me out 6 more shrimp. I told her I've already waited 25 minutes for 6 shrimp and asked if I'd have to wait another 25 minutes. I previously ordered an extra side of garlic potatoes and told her that this situation was unacceptable and that at the very least I should not have to pay for the extra side of garlic mash potatoes. She removed them from my bill. However, it's important to know that if you order the so-called "all you can eat $15.99 current special" that it's best you start out with the shrimp first instead of being so disappointed to served "6" shrimp after you start out with riblets. I was very disappointed and felt very bad for our server because he was a wonderful server but I could not leave a tip after what I experienced with the Manager and her attitude and lack of understanding. I've worked in food service for over 15 years as a Manager and would have never exhibited such unprofessionalism. So customers beware of the skimpy all you can eat protocols in place at the Bloomington, IN Applebee's.
