She checked my temperature, had sanitizer available, air purifiers going, and wore a mask (as did I) the entire time. She made me feel right at home and honestly made the entire process seamless. We had a nice conversation throughout, she told me how she has over 27 years in the business and asked me about myself. You know when people ask you about yourself, but they don't really care to hear the answer, they think they are just polite with asking? Well, this was not that. Kim was genuinely interested in what I said which made me feel like I knew her, and already liked her! She gave me a lot of tips/tools for making my skin healthier based on what she could see from our time together and was nice enough to shed some light on what facials are and what I would expect if I ever decided to have my very 1st facial! Kim also does ear piercings which is great to know (I have over 10 piercings myself) so this place was so right for me. She also sells products which I saw when I walked in, but she was not trying to sell them to me like some places do as soon as you walk in the door. Even though I was nervous, he and his amazing anesthesiologist were always confident and have had several years of surgery experience. My recovery was strong- no pain or nausea, a couple of days of minor bleeding, managed with just mild medication. I also managed to sleep. And Dr. Mehta's post - op support has been incredible. Since this was my first time getting a lash lift, I wanted to go somewhere that felt trustworthy. After the service was done, however, I honestly saw no difference in my lashes. I contacted the salon to see if there was anything that could be done to make the lash lift noticeable. The receptionist initially said, "I don't know what you want me to do," in a tone that honestly threw me off and made me feel uncomfortable. During that phone call, she also said that I had requested natural lashes, which my results were supposedly meant to reflect. First of all, I had NEVER asked for a natural result, and secondly, I honestly did not see even a natural-looking lift, and I think it goes without saying that I obviously wanted to see a result if I was paying hundreds of dollars for a service. Additionally, because this was my first lash lift ever, I mentioned during my call with the receptionist that the perming solution had been left on my lashes for 8 minutes during the original appointment. I was trying to ask whether it would be okay or safe for the solution to be applied again so soon. Before I could fully get my question out, she interrupted me and said, "I don't want that to get into your head," referring to the fact that the solution had only been left on for 8 minutes instead of longer, which felt really dismissive. The receptionist then offered me a corrective appointment to fix the results of my first appointment, which I really appreciated. She very clearly described it as a quick 30-minute corrective service--NOT a full new appointment. Based on that conversation, I genuinely believed they were trying to make things right because I was unhappy with the original service. I was not told that this would be treated as a new full-price lash lift, and I was not told that I would be charged again. When I went in for the corrective appointment, the appointment lasted a little over one hour instead of 30 minutes. At no point before or during the appointment was I told that I would be charged another $166.75. I was only told at the very end, after the service was already completed, that I needed to pay. I felt completely blindsided. I never would have agreed to the appointment if I had known I would be charged again. Also, since lash lifts are only done every 6-8 weeks, and sometimes even 10 weeks, I would not have expected a brand-new lash lift so soon. I truly believed this appointment was a corrective service for the original appointment. I did get better results after the second appointment, but the lack of transparency and communication was appalling. I normally never take the time to leave bad reviews, but one of the main reasons I chose this salon was because of the positive Yelp reviews I saw, so I cannot in good faith recommend anyone else come to Monika Stone and Skin. I WAS CHARGED AROUND $300 IN TOTAL FOR MY LASH LIFT, which is truly insane. I'm a college student who only works part-time, and I cannot afford to be charged twice for a luxury service like this without being clearly told beforehand. A part of me also feels like I was intentionally misled and taken advantage of. I would suggest trying other nearby places for better customer treatment.
