DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Dr. Lay is by far the most unprofessional doctor I've ever encountered. I was scheduled for double eyelid surgery on October 18th and traveled from Sacramento to San Jose for the procedure. Right before my appointment, Dr. Lay called to say he was "sick" and needed to reschedule. I was frustrated, but I tried to be understanding. He then booked me for November 15th at noon. I arrived early at 11:00 AM, only for him to cancel on me at 11:30 AM--thirty minutes before my surgery. He admitted he was still in bed, claiming he was "sick" again. There was no genuine apology, no urgency, no professionalism whatsoever. At that point, it was clear this doctor cannot be trusted with anyone's time, money, or medical care. I demanded a full refund and will never deal with him again. If you value your time and sanity, go elsewhere. The text message from Dr. Lay was sloppy. At this point it looked less like he was "sick" and more like he was hungover and couldn't even send a proper text. read more

I chose Dr. Lay because he specializes in Asian eyelid surgery, while many other surgeons I considered had a more generalist approach. Knowing he performs this procedure daily gave me confidence that he had the expertise and experience I was looking for. From the start, his staff was incredibly accommodating and helped me reschedule my consultation several times. When I arrived for my consultation and later for the procedure, everyone made me feel completely at ease. The procedure itself went smoothly. I was really nervous at first and actually shaking, but after the first incision, which I barely felt, my anxiety disappeared. This is my firsf time ever getting lip fillers. I had an amazing experience with Nurse Emily. She was so kind, helpful and gentle from start to finish. I felt so relaxed and comfortable with her. I showed nurse Emily my goal pic and explained to her how my upper lip sinks in and I would like to give it more support. I was going for a fuller upper and bottom lip. Nurse Emily injected 1mL. This is my first bad review on Yelp. I'm so moved to post this because I'm appalled by Chase's lack of professionalism, especially in this field. I was present for my mother's post consultation, when he shared insensitive comments and was highly inappropriate. If you're considering coming here, consider how comfortable you want to be with a doctor performing on your body/face. Make sure you're not only comfortable, but that you trust them. Unfortunately, Chase only showed his true colors AFTER surgery, so I hope you keep my experience with him in mind for this important decision. I left this office disgusted. What's more is that my sister is suddenly getting attacked on her Yelp account this past week after leaving an honest review of her personal account with Chase. I had eyelid surgery with Dr. Chase and wanted to complete the healing process before writing a review. I had a revision with Dr. Chase as the first surgery there were other things I wanted to address. With eyelids surgery, it's really hard to know what you are getting because every set of eyes are different. Dr. Chase listens to you and also gives you his honest opinion as well. I am very happy with my results as I now have even eyelids as to before they were not symmetrical. Now I can apply makeup evenly for both eyes. lol I also feel that this procedure can take years off your face which is why I waited for my 30's to have this done. I went in to get some old tear trough fillers dissolved (got them in 2022 at another clinic). They were able to fit me in right away. This review is long overdue. I had the procedures done June 2017 so almost 2 years earlier! I'm everyday so grateful that I've meet Dr. Chase and had chose him for the procedure. His methods I think are less invasive/conservative approach yet the results are significant! I had a couple areas to address. One was my heavy eyelids. I've already had double-eyelids prior to any revisions but around 33years old it became less defined. Just almost more skin. The other area, is my facial shape. It's round! I know to most people that doesn't seem like anything worth to be bothersome about. But all of my life I have always disliked it and tried to use my hair to cover up my round cheeks. This started since I was a teenager prior to all of these Korean V-shaped face fades. I guess it's just that the cheeks being round overpowered the rest of my facial features also makes me appear heavier especially in photos. So my initial consultation was to look into address my eye-lids and also buckle fat removal from the cheeks. I did appreciate that Dr. Chase was very upfront about expectations and instead he advise against having too much buccal fat removed and made better suggestions. I will post some photos to show my before and after but once again I just wanted to say thank you to Dr. Chase and his team. If I could do it all over again I definitely would with the exception of maybe going under some type of anesthesia rather than being awake (w/local). My first impression about Chase is he was quite mean and cold. My eyes were fine to start with. Just some stupid reasons lead me to this path. After that very first stupid move, I had so many bad surgeries and corrections that made me so depressed and almost gave up my hope to ever being able to get my look back. But for that very same reason, that the terrible look of my eyes ruined my face so bad, I didn't even dare to go meet up with friends for a long time. Therefore I finally decided to give it another try. I went through very throughout researches and decided to go see Dr. Chase. At the first meeting, I felt that Chase was very cold. He didn't seem to understand and empathize for how much I went through and therefore why I was so scare and nervous. But at the same time. He seemed very honest, very experienced, confident and more important, didn't try to sell himself. After that meeting, I called him and asked for facetime meetings with more questions (or the same questions because I was so scare of making wrong decision). He was very patient, called me back at each time I requested. He gave me his honest answers and rooms for me to make my own decision. I grew more confidence as I spoke more to him. As time go by, I finally decided to have my surgery with him. And that was one of my very best decision ever. My ruined eyes that went through 7 surgeries and corrections in Vietnam and Korea, caused me all kinds of stresses and depressions now got a lot better. I am so happy with how they look now. I decided to come to Dr Lay despite travelling from Canada because he has done the double eyelid surgery on one of my friends and I was amazed by how much better she looked after (I've seen surgeries by other doctors where the crease is not necessarily suitable for the face). After a consult I realized he was clearly very knowledgeable and skilled - he asked about my height to as a determinant for my crease height, since as I'm short and will look up most of the time which meant the crease should be more visible. He also considered the fact that I wanted a crease height that was tall and looked natural. I flew in for the surgery and was very relaxed the entire time as everything went smoothly, I didn't feel any pain during the surgery which was about an hour and felt slight soreness for 1-2 days after the numbing cream had worn off. Luckily I didn't bruise and was able to go back to work on day 7 without anyone at work noticing (I wore double eyelid tape before the surgery), and after 1 month I was already very happy with how my eyes looked. By 6 months and 1 year my crease continued to settle nicely and I love how they look so much. I had saggy uneven eyelids pre surgery and Dr Lay was able to open up my eyes and face and I am getting compliments all the time about how beautiful my eyes are! Dr Lay really cares about his patients and will work with you to transform you and give you the most beautiful eyes - I didn't even know I could look like this! His prices are super reasonable too and on par with other doctors, and it was sooo worth the trip across the continent because I didn't want to settle for anything less than perfect. I just obtained my consult notes from the office and I'm actually kinda impressed with how detailed it is. He accurately noted that I wanted a low crease, whereas the doctor who botched my first surgery (Dr. Goretti Ho Taghva who I do NOT recommend btw) gave me a large crease. -_- This already shows that Dr. Lay listens to what the patient wants, which is kinda important when you're making permanent changes to your face. Also wanted to add that even though Dr. Lay said it's impossible to lower my crease, I just had it successfully lowered by one of the top oculoplastic surgeons in the country. In no way is this review a reflection of nurse Emily, who undoubtedly does a phenomenal job with fillers and so forth. This review is solely based from the experience my mother received from Chase. To start, my mother has never gotten surgery done before, but as she aged, her eyelids drooped down covering her natural eyelid folds. She made the conscious decision to seek surgical enhancement. I was given the responsibility to seek out the right PS. Considering the high reputation Chase has within the Asian community concerning eyelid surgery, I believed he would be a great choice. Unfortunately, that was far from the truth. Not only did Chase perform a botch job, he was completely unprofessional. After the surgery, I voiced my concern that my mom's eyelids were not showing. Chase assured us that she was still swollen and to be patient. 3 months, 6 months, then one year passes and here we are; the results have not changed. Unsatisfied, we scheduled a post-op meeting and my sister and I accompanied our mom. Upon arrival, a nurse asked for our thoughts on the results and took a picture to give a brief description to Chase who was in another room. She leaves and a minute later, he barges into the room and says, "SO, I heard you don't like natural." Not even analyzing her yet, that was exactly how he entered the room. Before any one of us could respond, he immediately saw my sister, who was having a menstrual migraine at the time, and said, "WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER?" My sister responds, letting him know she was just not feeling well. He responds, "YIKES, don't tell your friends that," insinuating she had coronavirus. This post-op meeting was on February 18th, in the midst of racial attacks on Asian Americans concerning the growth of coronavirus cases. It was such an inappropriate n racist comment. He asked my sister what she was sick with, and she responded, "not coronavirus." Instead of apologizing for his ill manner, he said in a condescending tone, "Oh, I know. I'm not like the OTHER WHITE folks." He laughed it off and went back to discussing my mom's surgery. He blamed the results being bad because of her age n bad genes. My mom just wanted her NATURAL lids to show not a new lid incision. Keep in mind, the door of the room was completely open the entire time, with two of his nurses and the front desk administrator just speculating in the room and doorway. To make matters worse, Chase then had the audacity to point at EACH and EVERY person present and say to my mother, "you will never look like her, her, her, her, and HER. They're young, you can't get that look, I can't do anything abt that, blame that on God." He points at my mom's Jesus necklace and continues, "that guy on your neck, yeah, blame him." She was already unhappy with her aging, but she was left further embarrassed with his comparison between her and his younger staff. Throughout the session he had many insensitive remarks to justify his botched surgery instead of taking accountability. He simply blamed it on her genes and age(57 y/o). If this was the case, isn't this something worth mentioning PRIOR to surgery instead of giving her false expectations and wasting $5k? There're clients in their 80s w/sagged skin that gets this procedure done. Ure just not skilled enough, Chase At the end, Chase kept asking my mom if she understood everything he was saying. She repeatedly said yes, but he smiled at her and says, "no you don't," then motions his front desk admin to translate in Vietnamese. My mom has been living in America for 30+ years, she understood him. When the meeting was basically over, Chase decided to go back to my sister and further question her. Chase: So do you go to school or what? Sister: Just graduated. Chase: In what? Sister: Marketing. Chase: And how's that working for ya? Sister: Good. Chase: Are you sure about that?? Hahah What was the point of that, Chase? Why were you fixated on my sister? The focus should be on our mom not someone that clearly doesn't want to talk to you. Also, why were you trying to make fun of someone's educational choice? Not everyone would like to be a "doctor" like yourself. We were all left completely mortified and appalled at what was just taken place because surely someone in that profession cannot be so obnoxiously impersonal. My mom mentioned how he made her embarrassed and sad about herself. And that she wouldn't trust him for a revision because if he messes up again, he'll just blame her again. I'm not the one to leave comments regarding work from surgeons because I get it, outcomes aren't guaranteed. However, it was the situation afterwards that was incredibly mishandled. For the sake of elders, or anyone for that matter, do not choose this guy for your eyelid surgery. If your eyelid surgery comes out horribly, he will blame it on you and want to charge an additional $5k for revision. Do yourself a favor and steer clear from this guy. This review is specifically for the front desk receptionist Reagan, and it seems she's the reception manager. I previously heard horrible stories about her from a friend but never experienced one myself. I have been with Dr Chase lay for a long time and she makes me feel that they don't value their relationship with clients at all and only cares about money. I had to reschedule one of my appointments (for the first time ever) because I randomly mentioned to my prime doctor and she said I shouldn't get it as I was taking antibiotics. It put me in a lot of risks if I do both at the same time--this has never been communicated by nurse Sieyeon or anyone before, so I had to cancel the appointment. Reagan was on the email back and forth for many times accusing this is the client's fault because obviously clients are supposed to know everything! They put me in the risk without fully acknowledging me the risks, and now they are charging me a rescheduling fee. I've spent tens grands of dollars here and now they refuse to work with me because of this one rescheduling. What irritates me more is that Reagan sounds very mean on the phone and repeated "it's our policy" without any other explanations. I requested to talk to nurse Sieyeon to clarify, and Readon simply refused it. I asked if I could talk to Dr Chase Lay and she said he is not available. I don't know why Dr. Lay got some bad reviews. He is very nice and kind person. He knew what I really wanted. I had my eyelids surgery from Dr. Lay and he did amazing job for me plus staff (I don't know her name) who helped him in operation room also very nice. Price is reasonable for amazing result I got. So happy to get eyelids surgery here. All my friends saw result, they really love it. And some of my friends want to get eyelid surgery from Dr.Lay too after they have seen my result. Dr. LAY!! My visit to the office was amazing the staff there are so friendly warm and welcoming I went in for a facial and Tiffany was incredible I walked out feeling like 1 million bucks she listened to everything that I asked and she explained to me each step that was happening. To my surprise I opted to get the numbing cream and Nurse Practitioner Sieyeon was extremely gentle and I did not feel a thing. She entertained my awkward conversation to distract to me. I got Botox in my forehead area to help with frown lines. The office is clean and modern decor. DR. Lay came by and greeted me to ensure that I was happy with my procedure.
