There is no residual harsh smell, they hand scrubbed the entire floor and used a small machine to buff afterwards. One thing to know is that to quality for the 10 year warranty, you must use their cleaner which can be ordered from their website (no third party steam cleaning, no other chemicals). This is not a huge deal to me since I already do this with my laminate flooring upstairs, but it might bother some people so just thought I'd include this information.
