I've taken 15 heated yoga classes at Up Yoga and enjoyed all of them! Hannah is my favorite instructor!!!!! Hannah's classes are a 10/10 each time!!!All of the instructors are supportive, bring great energy, and invite you to challenge yourself. I take classes through ClassPass and Up Yoga is my most frequented studio. Very grateful they are on ClassPass! The studio is inviting and very straight forward. There is street parking and small lots on either side of the building (you probably aren't supposed to park in front of the cremation society during their business hours, but when I go to class the lot is empty and it's after hours, so I park there). You check in at the front desk, leave your shoes and jacket in the lobby, then head into the studio. They have so many class times to choose from, and they stagger the times just right so if you're someone like me who arrives 15 minutes to each class, you don't have to awkwardly wait around for another class to get out before you can go in. It's nice getting adjusted to the heat in the studio before you start moving. I would definitely recommend arriving at least a couple minutes early. You bring your own mat and water bottle. They provide weights, blocks, and towels. They also have cubbies inside of the studio for you to put your belongings, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own lock or leaving your stuff unattended. They also have bathrooms and a changing room if you're coming right from work. I cannot recommend Up Yoga enough!! read more

I love UpYoga! The community at this studio is so welcoming. You can show by yourself and make a new friend every time you go. You can also just go and practice and leave. They make sure your experience is yours and no one else's. They have a wide variety classes with weights and no weights and expanded the studio. I totally recommend if you're looking to begin your practice or wanting to improve your practice! read more

Beautiful! My rating is based off of one solo drop in for a specialty live music class and not a member. Finding the class schedule online was a breeze along with creating a profile and registering. As a first time student, I received a text from the studio asking if I had any questions in advance to which I did not. Additionally, there is a slight nudge to check out 2-weeks for a little bit more money along with an email and text post class advertising the same. The studio has a parking lot on the side with about 10 spots (I made sure to go early to secure) otherwise I believe street parking is fair game. When I entered the spaces, I instantly felt community, ease and cleanliness. I adored all the green plants and how it felt relaxed and peaceful. Up Yoga offers 1 complimentary towel per visit, has cubbies inside the studio space vs. locks, there are two changing rooms resembling your standard fitting room, gender neutral bathrooms, 2 shower rooms and an array of props such as blocks, straps and bolsters. I found it really interesting that the studio didn't have mirrors but it was a nice change to not compare or judge during the practice. At the end of class, cold lavender towels were provided which felt perfect to place over my forehead and eyes during savasana. Thank you! read more

I started going to Up Yoga because of their two week intro deal (unlimited for $40). I quickly realized I was going to keep practicing there. If you're looking for hot (90-95 degrees) yoga in South Minneapolis, this is the place! The teachers are all kind and super welcoming. There are little flip cards you can use to indicate if you are open to adjustments or not. There are also a variety of class types (I like the ones with music the best) and many class times -- super convenient. Best of all? There's a disco ball in studio. Water: I believe there is water for purchase there, but one negative is there is no water bottle fill stand. That's about it for cons though. Showers: There are two on site and they've both been open every time I've gone. There are also two changing stalls. Parking: There is a little lot on the lefthand side of the building. I often find parking there, but it is small. Street parking is easy in the surrounding area and on Nicollet. read more

I attended an online Yin class with Megan over Zoom. I found Up Yoga on ClassPass. I'm really grateful for studios still offering livestream classes, especially because they are getting harder and harder to find in my own city. This was a nice class. I always appreciate when the business has their organizational methods down pat and communicates the Zoom links in a timely manner. It makes me soooo sad when you're excited to take a class than the link never comes. No issues here! Meghan led a soothing class and had clearly thought through the sequencing. It was a comfortable experience despite being remote and I still felt a sense of community despite being virtual. I would definitely recommend this class. Minneapolis is a cool city, and I would surely like to return in-person once its safe to travel again! read more

I have been practicing yoga at UpYoga for the last year and a half and I have to say that the community, teachers, and the vibe is phenomenal. I have recently taken and gradutated from the Empowerment Program - 200 hr YTT and it has changed my life in so many ways for the better. I highly recommend this studio if you want to sweat, meet your edge, take up space and feel empowered in a very welcoming community. read more

I went to the community class on a Sunday afternoon. It's surprising hard to find a beginner level class on a Sunday afternoon. On the plus side the space was great. Lots of things you would need for yoga class. Plenty of places to change, showers, mats, water. I did not reaLize when I signed up for the class that it was a heated class and that is the reason it's not a 5 star experience. The instructor was great, I felt rejuvenated and most of all it was the first time I have felt truly warm since June I would definitely go back for an intro month it's a pretty good deal for 30 days. read more

I have been looking for a studio near South Minneapolis for about a year now. I stumbled across UP one day as I was driving down Nicollet and haven't regretted a single second or class I've taken there! The community they Up has is welcoming, cozy, empowering, uplifting, and educational. I meet someone new every class and learn something new about myself or yoga every time I ate on my mat. Definitely worth the intro month and much longer. read more

Up up up. That's how I felt after going to this studio. So many wonderful things happening here. I felt like a part of their community. Very home-y. This is pure hot yoga. Fast-paced. Although there was no cardio, I felt refreshed and challenged. I would compare it to corepower's C3 difficultly level. Lots of unique poses I have never tried or heard of before. I loved the eucalyptus cold towels at the end of the class. Also, having the assistant instructor was a plus to help straighten our poses and guide us. The studio, bathrooms, changing rooms, and lobby were all clean. I noticed they steamed the studio floor after the class and I like that extra detail of cleanliness which I have not seen at other yoga studios. I also liked chanting the 3 oms at the beginning and end of class which reminded me of a choir warm up; it feels so good to sigh out loudI got a class pack and I can't wait to go back! read more

Up Yoga will bring you all the best of the Baptiste practice along with a welcoming, vibrant community, a beautiful studio space, exciting special events and workshops, and cute merch for sale in the lobby. The yoga at Up is taught by experienced, attentive instructors, and the schedule provides options for both restorative and challenging practitioners. I've been practicing Baptiste yoga for over 10 years now, and recently relocated to Minneapolis. I was hopeful to find a studio and Up Yoga has blown me away. Notably, I took a class with Destinie a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely fantastic. Not only was her technical knowledge obvious but her clear love for teaching resulted in a really wonderful class. After an exceptionally terrible day, it was exactly what I needed and I walked out of the studio with a completely different attitude and headspace. ** If you're unfamiliar with Baptiste and a little intimidated by it I would highly recommend the Sunday evening Ease Up class. It's a great introduction to the practice and moves at a slower pace, making it great for beginners. I've brought a couple friends as introduction and they've loved it.** read more

This place is fantastic! I was visiting from out of town and I'm bummed I can't visit it more often. The class I took was with Megan, who was a wonderful instructor. Just the right combination of humor, playfulness, encouragement and challenge. She seemed knowledgeable and gave very helpful alignment cues. I'd probably consider it an intermediate level class but there were plenty of options given to increase or decrease the intensity. Cool towels were placed over our eyes during the end of class which felt great. I left feeling challenged, calm, and refreshed. I would highly recommend this studio and instructor! read more

I just recently completed a month long trial membership. While many of the teachers are warm, welcoming and passionate, there is virtually NO instruction at this studio. You are expected to follow a fast and HOT series of yoga postures based on Baron Baptiste Power Yoga, but there are no real instructions, alignment instruction or modifications suggested. In other words, the "teacher" simply shouts out a bunch of cues and exhorts people to "push to their edge," whatever that means, especially if you don't know the poses they're shouting about! It's the responsibility of a yoga teacher to make sure each student is given the instruction he/she needs to grow as a yogi and to teach the proper alignment necessary for learning postures safely. Class should not just be for those who are already yoga teachers at the studio - this seems to be the focus---it should be for ALL students regardless of current skill level at Baptiste Power Yoga. That's why students go to class and that's why you're called a "teacher" or "instructor" and not a cueing agent. If you only want those who already know how to do what you're teaching/cueing, then for chrissakes don't say it's for all levels, because it's clearly not. No one who pays for a yoga class should be left to their own devices to figure out a yoga sequence/speed which is far beyond their abilities. It is YOUR job as a yoga teacher to make the content accessible to all of your paying customers...not just a clique of Baptiste brand followers. There's no yoga philosophy, alignment or any other other elements of classical yoga either. It's really odd, because in Baptiste's own videos, he helps students with alignment and teaches most to students who need more instruction, and doesn't just teach to those who already know the series. He also was fortunate to grow up studying Iyengar and other classical yoga forms and now his own brand, or its interpretation by studios like Up Yoga, takes this advantage away from its students and teaches only a brand. This should never EVER be your only yoga instruction!!! Another bothersome thing is that some of the teachers are cliquey with each other and very stand offish and frankly, rude to students they don't feel measure up to their athletic version of yoga. An example is the Wednesday evening 7:00 teacher who is uber rude and unfriendly, except to her homies - aka other teachers. Please warm up!!! The Friday teacher EW is very snobby as well. These people do not represent yoga at all, and hopefully for Baptiste, they don't represent the brand either. Yes, it's just a brand people!!! read more

I went to my first class at UP recently and it was strange - it was completely missing any of the meditative/spiritual/guided breath practice components of most yoga classes. It was just a sequence of poses, but no flow - literally just a teacher (who modeled/demonstrated nothing, so good luck if you don't know 20+ poses by name) saying the poses but not connecting them into sets or sequences. It felt super disconnected-- no explanations given about how the postures build on one another or where the energy should be focused or the timing with breath. Very little guidance about how to get into the poses, which for some (pigeon, frog, and crow come to mind) can be tricky. It was a workout, sure - it's a heated studio so you're gonna sweat - but it just felt stripped of all the things that yoga offers IN ADDITION to being a workout. If I just want to work my core, I can go to the gym. There was also no music, which was weird. And two guys were shirtless and while I love seeing men in yoga classes, their Shirtless Bro Energy kind of sucked all the air out of the room. Seems like a lot of people like the studio but it was not my cup of tea. read more

I had been looking for a yoga studio in minneapolis for the last year, and after trying a handful UP yoga opened and I finally found a fit. All of the instructors are are inspiring and passionate about teaching, and you can tell how much thought goes into every class. I HIGHLY recommend this studio to anyone who loves Baptiste yoga and is looking for a down to earth, clean, bright, & beautiful studio in the Twin Cities. The studio has a fun and genuine feel to it. All the teachers are highly trained, give hands-on adjustments, and the classes are challenging. This studio is a must try. The facilities are beautiful, attention and detail went into every corner. The space and teachers are welcoming. I love the vibe of small studios that create a tribe where everyone knows your name, and you will get that here. I've been practicing yoga for 8 years, have been a member at many studios and Up Yoga is near the top for favorite yoga studios. They teach a baptiste style yoga, if you like to work-yo-body this is the place for you! They also offer restorative classes as well. I know many of the teachers here well and have been following them around the city for years attending their classes. The teacher lineup at this studio is top notch. The hands on adjustments feel like a massage. The heat is perfect. My only complaint is that I wish all classes had music, I love music in my classes but that's personal preference. I understand that the baptiste way is to take away the noise so you can hear your breath and that of your neighbors, but I still prefer music and always will. ha read more
